It sorta detracts from the mood, which isnt brilliantly set in the first place. And while the gameplay is simple enough once you get used to it, its just not as much fun as it could be. Although there are some exceptions... duel weilding a pair of machine guns is pretty fun. If the only thing you want to do is blast the living hell out of a few not-too-bright enemies, this is a great game for it. Loads of gore, plenty of weapons, and as mass slaughters go, a nice easy hacking session. But if you want a serious FPS with a proper storyline, which doesnt have a boring cutscene every five minutes, avoid this like the plague. I think the best i can say about this game is that you dont have to use steam to activate it. Hooray! Expand

It's funny how people give it a 2 or 3 after probably playing this for... like 1 hour. Great game if you love Painkiller or similar games.
Lots of undead to blast away (though I'd love some more), interesting story and enough dynamic gameplay to keep you interested all the way through.

Though it needs to be harder (on a higher difficulty), more monsters and co-op mode.

This game is very poor indeed the graphics are outdated. And the controls are very cumbersome witch makes it really hard to control player and weapons.

The fancy is okay, but the implementation is terrible. The graphics is too old, some sounds and musics is sucks. There are a lot of bugs. Bad story, monoton, boring. The AI is one of the worst in games history (maybe the Sniper: Ghost Warrior is the worst which i played).

Graphics are ok. Nothing new. Gameplay is pretty smooth on my 4870X2 and Core I7 @ 3.6 ghz, but had to turn texture rendering down to medium to get a constant 60fps, otherwise everything else is set to max except aa is at 4X. Gameplay wise, it's not as good as painkiller, The shot gun in painkiller where you can actually feel the blasts is not there. People take four to five bullets Graphics are ok. Nothing new. The voice acting is kind of cheesy, but can be overcome. The storyline isn't all that interesting so far, but then again I'm only on chapter two so it could get better. Killing zombies and vampires is cool though. Overall it seems like a decent shooter game. A game you can pick up for an hour or two when you feel the need to let off some steam. But since this is comming from some devs that made painkiller, I have to say painkiller was much much better! Expand

Gives me a headache. I don't think it's as good as Painkiller, which some of the devs that made NecroVision worked on. Graphics are decent. I think if this were around $10 or less it would be a ok purchase.

This game is fun it has the right feel for a shooter game, does lack on the story line a bit.. The character your playing can use more emotion in the voice. I'm into any zombie shooter game and there are very few goods ones out there. So I gave this game a good rating.

I cant say that i have tried the game, but the summary of what the game is alone makes me want to refuse trying it. But, this game is not without its flaws. You will find yourself killing that same respawn soldier in that window over and over and over again. Also you will tire of hearing the germans shout "I am defending!" since thats usually all they say. This game also makes aiming for the head very critical on harder difficulties since it will take 5+ rifle rounds to down 1 enemy with 15 more enemies to go. But, the one this that will irratate you is your character cheesy one liners after every kill and every event and every cut scene... and after the 100th time of him saying "What the H-ell is going on here?!" and "Remember my naaaame!" you will want to strangle a small child. What a mess. Gameplay is dull and frustrating, weapons are unresponsive, movement is jerky, what you have to do is often unexplained or unclear... All in all, this is the least fun game I've played in ages.
At the second "boss battle" I encountered (quite early on), I just quit: I had only a pistol... to handle a boss?!? (and flying ghosts too!).
Other issues: - When you get the machine

At the second "boss battle" I encountered (quite early on), I just quit: I had only a pistol... to handle a boss?!? (and flying ghosts too!).
    Other issues:
    - When you get the machine gun (huge recoil), you lose the rifle (but you don't know it), so after mowing down 2 or 3 enemies (MG bullets last that long), you remain with just the pistol. WTF!
    - Enemies often swarm you, but don't worry: you never die (on Normal difficulty at least). So you feel overwhelmed and immortal at the same time!
    - You can't kill MG-wielding enemies with bullets: you have to use explosives, BUT: grenades are rare, so you can go toward them (while they are bullet-spraying you) to plant TNT on them. Best strategy ever (NOT!).
Maybe the game improves in later levels, but I highly doubt it. It seems the devs were either too constrained, or they had no idea what makes a game fun.
    Only positives are:
    - The game makes you feel how awfully horrible WWI must have been (but moments later it becomes ridiculous, so you lose immersion anyway).
    - Atmosphere and level design are decent.
Thank God I got this game in a cheap bundle. But honestly, it's not even worth the time I spent downloading it.

Nice spooky first person shooter set in World War 1.

Sadly it tends to crash a bit on my setup (maybe it's because I have multiple screens?).
The gameplay is quite usual for this kind of game. The weapon picker is a bit uncomfortable when you have stashed many weapons, but I guess there is no easy way to let the player pick between like 20 weapons ;)

They get a 10 because the game is criminally underrated. Yeah its clunky and lacks the amount of polish we are used to now, but at the same time you can clearly see the love and talent that was involved. Im sure a lot these guys went on to greater things.

Necrovision is a hard game to get through because of how clunky it is. actually the whole game is a mess but you can see how much love went into it even if it is a mess . it has all the telling signs of a devs First game and that is because it was and they got better as the game went on . sadly by the end of it i just wanted to get to the final boss and rushed through

Story: an american soldier on the british front lines of ww1 ? ok makes no sense already but i digress , then Hell opens up zombies are a thing and a dragon flies across the sky , it was a kraut scientist, but the scientist as being controlled by vampires , but the vampires were being controlled by demons and the story just keeps getting messier and messier but the end surprised me. also the main character starts out like a guy who just wants peace and ends up a powerful demigod obsessed with violence and that character development is perfect for video games , if this story was in any other medium it would not work or at least work as well Still a wacky mess though (in a good way )
    Story: 6.3/10

world building : there is minimal world building done here as most locations are varied but not very detailed sure you can find letters and stuff but the games level design lets me know at every step this is just a video game and not a fully realized world , i can appreciate what they tried to do especially in the latter half with the vampires world as well as their weapons cause got dam are they cool .i like how the vampires live underground as they hate the sun , a human would think it was hell as i think the scientist did. and how they use drill trams to get around is a nice touch. but other than that its just a bunch of cliche nazi, vampire and demon stuff only really creative by making them all into one game
    World building:4.5/10

Graphics: CAN I GET A FRIGGIN FLASHLIGHT jesus this game is dark and not in the edgy kind of way in the lighting kind of way i could barely see anything while in hell , i wasted so much ammo on spray and pray "Raise your brightness and gamma " I DID it didn't help technically this game is a mess and works right half the time , it looks shoddy , like a plastic dollar store toy , a toy you would still have fun with though. this games graphics are saved entirely by art direction
    Graphics 3.3/10

Gameplay: keeping in theme of this game being a mess the game play is a buggy mess , aiming feels off , why does the rifle look bent ? how come i get sent 20 feet in the air trying to walk over a corpse. how come the ogre monsters are so quick and to get away from them i have to sprint side ways and there is no other strategy for them ? why is every boss justa bullet sponge ( at least some of them have different stages i'll award points for that) why is this game both frustratingly hard and mind numbingly easy ?????. that is the bad , the good is the dual wield and melee mechanics though i enjoyed those especially early game , not so much late game
    Gameplay:4.2/10

Sound design: is the music good ? its fitting sure, repetitive yes , plays at weird times also yes , final boss music is the same as the menu music ( really?!) voice acting was terrible in a campy funny way though , not that the acting it self was bad cause i think the main character did alright just the direction was off and would tunt the enemies after killing them then he would go into pacifist mode for a cut scene and it would be SO jaring like no one says" DEATH DEATH AND DEATH" as if he is enjoying carnage then says how terrible violence is. it makes no sense and really brings you out of it , sound design that actively takes you out of the game at almost every turn that's just a no from me
    Sound design 2/10

    6.3+4.5+3.3+4.2+2=20.3
    20.35= 4.06/10

in terms of critically this game sucks , but there is a passion here , and i has charm , a so bad its good feel , don't go in expecting to be blown away but it has its enjoyable moments

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. NecroVision its an oldschool style FPS game released in 2009, running on the Painkiller engine, you will get loads of action and battle after battle from great war trenches all the way to the pits of hell.
Weapon variety is great early game, you start with a simple human arsenal and later on you get super natural weapons like the Necromancer's Gauntlet and the powers that comes with it. Sadly the stronger and cooler powers of the Necro-gauntlet are only unlocked by doing extra challenges that can only be entered throught the main menu, and that sort of breaks the pace of the game. There are some pretty varied and fun set-pieces here and there to.
Enemies are pretty varied in the first two thirds of the game, but the last third near the end feels really rushed (like run out of budget rushed) with waves after waves of the same enemy. And the final boss is a repeat of an vehicle section and it kinda sucks.
There are in total 3 or 4 vehicle sections in this game, and althought they are not terrible, its not great either.

Don't expect a detailed hearth breaking story about the great war, the story is cheesy and even funny at times because of how ridiculous it sounds and how it seems to be going throught script rewrites as you play it.
Grab in during a sale if you feel like dunking on some zombies and demons with a trench gun and a necromancer gauntlet while spouting edgy one-liners.

By no means is it a perfect game, far from it but worth it to give it a try anyway.
All in all is decent experience for the lovers of the ''Boomer Shooter'' genre. Would not recommend if you are looking for a polished and perfect experience though. There is a stand alone prequel expansion (Lost Company) that I still need to play and review, however people have said that it is a better experience than the full NecroVision.

    Score: 6/10 // Enjoyable [★★★★★★✰✰✰✰]

Crazy as hell Necrovision brings a new perspective to the events of World War One. Strictly a linear action shooter excels with an unconventional set of weapons and frantic boss fights. Unfortunately, the graphics don't match the extreme HW requirements. [Feb 2009]
  3. A game that can be fun, but overall not so good. Great visuals and an interesting combat system, with some good moments. But its story is not as good as it should be, gameplay is a bit harsh playing with keyboard, and it's so typical that it isn't a fun experience overall.
