    This game appears to be an innocent basketball game on the surface but tricks people into spending real money on its shameless in game microtransaction system. There is several casino style gambling elements in the game that use psychological manipulation to make it seem like you can win a player.     The game itself (The non casino gambling elements) are fine and its the same ol 2K basketball with new rosters, But I cant in any good semblance recommend this to anyone especially not younger gamers. They trick you into wanting to gamble in this game. Ive watched one of my favorite franchises turn into a laughing stock that's getting ridiculed by everyone because of their greed. I mean they are after all called "Take 2" and they take 2 of everything because one payment of $60 wasn't enough. RIP sports games and the future of AAA gaming, it was a nice run.    … Expand

    This is one of the worst examples of greed in the gaming industry. Do NOT buy this game, this has to stop and we stop it by showing companies we are not going to spend money on a casino game dressed up as a basketball game. The sad thing is; this used to be such a great franchise. What a shame.

    I literally cannot find a single positive in this game, it is all negative. I got my Steam refund going after 60 minutes. I got this just to play single player but the game is the same as it has been since 2K16. Every year they just slow it down like I am running underwater and it is just flat out, not fun to play, even for single player.

    - PC optimization is awfui (FPS between 60 - 240 on a 2080 TI capped at 165)
    - They just don't care anymore, and neither do I.

    Stay away from this game, especially on PC. Do not buy this for your kids, if you do, find a way to block them from using your credit card online. This is not a basketball game anymore, it is casino simulator, with hints of a basketball game that was released in 2015 and provides a roster update.     You have to understand that 2K is the epitome of a soulless, late-stage capitalism company and their game entirely reflects that fact. If you take that into account regarding every single aspect of the game then you will never be surprised by anything you may come to encounter in NBA 2K20. If you love or even just like the game of basketball DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

    Since 2k18, 2k gave up on PC. Absolutely no optimisation, no adjusments. Still no prelude, nothing. They changed the blacktop court every year since they have that game mode. But the blue ugly one is still here for 4th straight year. That's how lazy they got.

I have had to disallow my 11 year old son from playing a basketball game, as addictive gambling mini games have become too intrusive... what have we come to when I have to censor my child from a game rated for 3 year old.     This game does not deserve a single point, even though its animations, graphics, movement, roster has been improved, all of these "new and improved" features are free patches for every other non-sports games.     This game does not deserve a single point, even though its animations, graphics, movement, roster has been improved, all of these "new and improved" features are free patches for every other non-sports games.

    Even though there are games that do not change their formula and releases the same thing every year like Call of Duty (COD), those games in the very least changes where the game is set on and creates entirely different models (a gun in Call of Duty Modern Warfare is not in Advance Warfare and its skins/graphics are different while a basketball player is NBA2K series is a player model that has his skin/detail redrawn for "improving graphics").

    I would also like to add that each iteration of the game had the same terrible servers and the buggy launches during its first few weeks of release. Their improvements should've carried over from one iteration to the other however it seems that they just can't learn to avoid these mistakes.

    To top it off, this game just brings back removed game modes/features from its previous iterations and is sold at the base price for $60 for all these "new" features.
    People may argue that this game has a different story from the previous iterations, however many other games like Witcher have sold new compelling stories as a DLC which gives people a choice to pay a bit more (but less than a full priced game) for additional content for the game that they own.

    It boggles my mind how people defend this game when it is clear as day that they are being exploited and taken advantage of themselves.

    It is okay to be passionate and optimistic, but it becomes bad for you and the people around you if you let it blind you from what is actually happening. If the game is doing something wrong, then critic it, don't excuse it and give it a high score. How can they improve it if you do not speak out and reinforce it with action. Action speaks louder than words. (Analogy: In a situation wherein a kid does something bad, if I tell that kid not to do bad but I myself do the bad thing, the kid will not take me seriously right?)

    With everything said on this review, I have nothing more to say other than ending this with a question.

    Do you really think the employees of 2K deserves earning the $60 money for the new features of this each of the iteration for the games while for the same price or even less, other Triple A/Indie Game Developers creates the entirety of their game (graphics, sound, narrative, game mechanics, GUIs, programming, etc.) from scratch?    … Expand

    This has quite possibly been the worst game to come out on PC. And i played No Man's Sky shortly after launch. It is an incomplete skin over NBA 2k19. This is a $5 DLC for the previous game. A better title would be "NBA 2k19: Graphics and UI Update."

I played game for some time, making moderate progress (it felt better than previous releases, so there was a ray of light that maybe...). And one day you find out they stick it to you. You are back to gulag.

    The game is chore, it is not fun when you dont make progress. I am not hardcore player, I can not dedicate 8 hours a day to a video game. For me this feel like backstab of filthy thief in back alley.

    I dont complain about gameplay, I actually like it. The slow pace of progress diminishes what I find entertaining in actual gameplay. As I stated before, this game (My Career) is chore, it is slaving in quarry, it is gulag. I can not afford and will not pay for VC, ever.

    I dont recommend this game if you are not willing to hand out (lots of) money after your initial purchase.

Mycareer mode unplayble - grinding machine. I don know why I have to unlock some basic features in MyLeague features like trade finder. Yes. You can do this without VC points later, but it hurts the whole game.I recently bought this at a sale. Back to the mycareer mode - it`s broken. I expected to have more control on player creation. Basicly you have only few presets for your player at the start. Development of the player is broken AF. You dont have any control on how often to practice, what coach to choose like in real life. There are so many thing that could be better in that mode it is even hard to put here. All effort they put to create story behind it. It is useless becouse after a while you skip it anyway.… Expand

    I would not recommend this title to the casual fan. Some issues I had during the initial MyCareer included having to minimize the game window and maximize it in order to proceed through cut scenes, and the fact that the initial games are no where close to the actual experience once you jump into the actual Career mode. My character was too slow and Clunky to keep up with the All-stars the game required me to block, and wanting to run the floor as a slasher is incredibly hard considering the defense will always brick wall you at the half court line. If you want to drive to the basket you can forget about shooting anything else; 3-pt, mid-range, close shots were all under 60 points and unless you are acclimated to extremely slow shot timings, you'll get no sympathy from the shot meter, or animation. I had to put the game down after a game with the Lakers that pitted my guy against Kuzma and James, I was fouled over 30 times (couple at the 3 line) due to the tight defense that was being played, and I could free up any space to shoot, ultimately sinking 3 layups out of 24 shots. Even when I was so slightly early or late, my player would air ball close range shots like he was throwing jump-balls. The only positive I had during this game was the fact that I was able to sink 21 of my numerous free throws, which resulted in an interview that commented about my career high points (but did you see those air balls). In all, if you have the dough ($$$) to spend on bolstering your overall maybe you could do something decent, but if you're trying to grind away like me prepare for a slog. Progression on the badges was also slow, which I could understand if they weren't so critical to my player not picking up the ball after only three steps toward the basket. The 2 hr limit on returns in Steam really ruined my day on this one (game-play gets covered up behind a >2-hr career mode that doesn't represent actual difficulty).… Expand

    I lost my house to this game, and the publisher has sent out debt collectors who are threatening my knee caps, but at least I am the only person in Toronto who owns Kawhi.

    The core gameplay is slower than previous years, which is a refreshing change of pace. The players also feel like they're carrying more weight and momentum. Dribble move spamming is fixed, and the collision detection is far better than last year, so one on one defending is even more enjoyable

    The presentation is excellent as usual, although I did have some stability issues prior to upgrading my video driver (seems fine now). The AI is livelier than previous years, so CPU teammates and opponents are a little less predictable and useless.

    Aside from opening card packs, none of the gambling style elements involve spending any money. They're used as sign-in bonuses or for completing certain objectives. It's very easy to build a team of Hall of Famers and All-Stars without putting extra money into the game. That said, those elements do add a certain atmosphere that doesn't really make the game better.

    Otherwise, it's a solid upgrade with a plenty of enhancements and quality of life improvements that make it an essential purchase for those interested in the series and the game of basketball.    … Expand

    not really worth playing on pc.
    the controls are bad on pc the same as all the other sports games.
    they are meant to be played on a console.
    the game is pretty boring. there is not much good about this game.
    stopped playing it after 20 minutes because it was so boring

    I play mainly casually (only playing offline, or against friends) and I appreciate the gameplay of the game, with easy-to-learn-hard-to-master design: you can basically played with a simple set of moves (passes, running, simple dribble, shots) or go a little deeper and practice harder dribbles, different ways of shooting, and so on. The game looks good graphically speaking and, although I've never watched NBA in my entire life, I can imagine that the sound design (with the comments from the casters in particular) make the matches feel just like real NBA.

    The career mode features a nice little story (although cutscenes could be shortened at times) and, even though the first few hours are a little painful, there's a real feeling of progression beyond that. However, there are inexplicable framerate drops during some pre or post-match cutscenes, although they seemlingly feature less NPCs than the matches themselves.
    The "My Team" mode is a traditional card collection mode as you have in plenty of sports games these days. I haven't played it much, but I can imagine that it feels like a cash grab for many players.

    Gameplay-wise I would only point out two little flaws:
    - Succeeding a pass, a shot or a dribble is merely the result of how high your player's characteristic is in this domain, times (for the shots) how well you can time the pressure on the "shoot" key. No big deal there but it feels a little bit random at times.
    - In career mode, there are numerous "defensive breakdowns" (i.e., event where you lose experience because you left an opposing player unattended although it was your task to defend on him) that feel unjustified. Sometimes simply because you seem to be defending properly; and sometimes because the defensive assignments are suddenly swapped between players of your team, and you're suddenly assigned to the guy who is about to score although you're several metres away from him. This is quite infuriating.

    I also have to mention several bugs (straight-up freeze + crash, or the fact that some in-game "necessary updates" just won't operate because your hard drive is full, but the game won't tell you), the fact that you need a third-party account to access some features (...) or the weight of the game (nearly 100 Gb, really guys ?) so my experience was far from perfect. But for casual players like me, I think there is enough material there for quite some fun.    … Expand

    I like the game because of the easy gameplay, the fantastic graphics, authentic basketball player profiles and the easy game mode where you can pick different teams (e.g you can play with 90s All-Stars against the reigning nba-champions). Very big pro is the possibility to change the difficulty in-game.

    On the other side the "casino stuff" and other crazy modes are bunch of bull..... :-)

    NBA 2K20 feels like a turning point for 2K, and not in the right way. The publisher got too greedy, and it's going to show, in the next year's earnings. It's actually detracting from a good game, turning into a casino experience. What makes it worse, is that there's literally a roulette wheel implemented, which only underlines what 2K had in mind. It's a shame, become the highlight of the NBA 2K20, like the addition of the WNBA, the improved ball control, and the multitude of other smaller changes are buried under a pile of microtransactions that make people wonder what they are actually playing. The only mode that seems to have escaped, somewhat, the microtransactions plague, is the story, which is almost good enough to keep the game upright by itself. But it's almost good enough.

    Even if you just want to play a basketball game and you are frightened by the NBA 2K's hardcore character with its irreconcilable gameplay or if you are still averse to microtransactions, you have no alternative. Until next year's 2K21 of course.
