i haven't touched a basketbal game in over 6 years, but i was in shock on how bad this game plays, the controls are slow, you really don't have the feeling you got control over your character. It's also very hard to understand anything from this game if you are not well known with anything basketball related, so if you just want to start a game and play a quick game of b-ball, forget it, ii haven't touched a basketbal game in over 6 years, but i was in shock on how bad this game plays, the controls are slow, you really don't have the feeling you got control over your character. It's also very hard to understand anything from this game if you are not well known with anything basketball related, so if you just want to start a game and play a quick game of b-ball, forget it, i have never seen a sports game with such a big learning curve, and there is a no tutorial at all, they just got some badly written tutorial videos with a voice over from a NBA player who doesn't sound like he wanted to voice them at all. To be able to do some simple defense you have to pull so many moves your sticks i am not even bothering to do it anymore.

And than their is the My Career mode, avoid like the plague, your guy starts up as a wash up who did not even get drafted, and it shows why, he can't hit even hit the basket from 2 meters without a defender putting pressure on him. And the A.I is just terrible, i am in a perfect open position and my team just wont pass me the ball, instead the guy with the ball just stands there dribbling away until the shot timer is over. Your player also seems to be the main target to be defended while if i don't do anything, my team just rushes through their defense. And talking about teammates, even my teammates can't hit a ball, when my guy got transferred to the L.A Lakers, even Koby Bryant was missing shots that the real Bryant would be ashamed for.

And the biggest is with My Career is that they reward you after a match with VC cash, with this you can upgrade your character. But they give you so little, you might as well not bother, the main reason why they give this cash in such little amount is because you also have the option to just buy VC with real money, so why would i bother with doing well if a can just cheap out and max my guy out with real money?

Overall i am having just no fun with this, they made it way to realistic and the fun is far to find, this game is only worth it if you are really good with the previous versions of series and are a basketball nut. If you are a beginner, avoid this game. Oh yeah, did they also mention its a whopping 35 gig for PC? Good luck with downloading that if your ISP restricts you in the amount of GB you can download a month!

Is an upgrade form 2K14 even saying much? This game just sucks. Everytime there is an update it just exits you out of the game without warning and you lose your progress while it patches the update. The game is glitch central - you'll be hard pressed to find a game where your entire team doesn't teleport at least once or twice.

The controls are just plain horrid. It's like I'm playing in an ice rink with the way your guys just slight away from a quick flick of the control stick. My player mode is once again a joke. Try to guard someone and see just how "fun" this game is on defense. Something as simple as being able to follow someone on D is Dark Souls level hard, not because of actual good game design and challenge, but because figuring out the random ass controls is about as unintuitive as it comes. I guess it would be too much to ask for to be able to just oh I don't know.... HAVE YOUR GUY MOVE ALONG WITH WHAT YOUR CONTROL STICK IS TELLING HIM TO DO.

But no, not in this game. In this game if you have the ball near the top of the 3 point line, and you catch a pass where your control stick was even slightly moving backward, you'll get the "pleasure" of watching your guy run all the way into the backcourt and force a turnover, the whole time your control stick will be pressed forward but it won't do a damn bit of good.

You'll have the "pleasure" of hitting the block button when someone goes up for a shot, only to have your block register through 2 seconds later, and get minus points for bad block attempt, and letting your man score.

You'll have the "pleasure" of performing a dribble move to juke a defender, leaving a wide open lane to the basket, only to have the **** un-cancellable animation of your ball handler take the 2 extra seconds it needs to complete, and by that time your guy will be drawn like a magnet back to his defender.

It is the worst controls I think I've ever had the displeasure of having to deal with in a sports game. They've never been good, but this **** company seems to somehow top their awfulness with each successive release of the game.

Nothing makes sense in the my player mode either, as per usual with this franchise. When it's time to sub-in, you have to wait to watch the next play before you get to come in, and it's always whomever get's the rebound, randomly calling a timeout. Makes total sense, right? What a great feature, having your gameplay delayed just to watch the absolutely retarded AI retardly play against each other for a possession, followed by a retardedly called timeout, just so you can get in and watch your guy retardedly try and follow what you input into the controls.

The game fails on so many levels, but hey, they paid off the review sites so people will keep buying their awful product. Such is the modern state of gaming. Yay.

But there is one massive flaw with the mode: Your player is terrible. Your player is not good at anything and is terrible at everything. The story says you're undrafted, but NBA Scouts wouldn't even look at a player as bad as yours is to start MyCareer.

To upgrade your player, you need VC, which you can earn very slowly through playing. 2 full days of playing and I got my guy from a 62 Overall to a 64 Overall. But, you can BUY VC! That's the point. They make your player suck so bad so they can sell you VC.

The controls are horrendous, especially on defense. AI is terrible. The game is just bad. Even as bad as 2K14 was, 2K15 is worse.

Hugely disappointed. I wish I could say the game play is disappointing but I have not been able to even get that far yet (with the exception of about 3 mins of game time). When are developers going to learn that if you intend to link all your game play modes (even the single player ones) to being 'online', then you should very well make sure that your servers can handle the load.

Putting aside the gripe of why single player modes have to have an 'online' requirement (other than the pure commercial fact that they want you to spend more money) and the 'novelty' of the face scan feature (which is apparently seriously whack), the game is pretty much unplayable at the moment due to the 2k servers being wonky and the game itself required to connect to the servers practically all the time. Every time, the game tries to connect to the server, it freezes and crashes. Running it in offline (steam) mode is stable which says a lot.

This is pretty fundamental - if you cannot even play the game (which has 99% of the time freezed and crashed on the menu options on me), it cannot even be called a game can it?

Some would say that this is unfair criticism and does not reflect actual game play. I disagree, if something as fundamental as navigating a menu and options causes a game freeze/crash (and yes all os/drivers are updated blah blah blah) then the game and mechanic is seriously flawed. So in short, please give me a game I can play.

You know how to decrease stress on your servers, don't make the most popular mode (myCareer) always online like ♥♥♥♥♥s. Also stop defending that it's multiplayer game, this isn't Warcraft, there are like max 10 players at a time.

    Onto the actual game:
Only played myCareer a few hours after release the game is fun, looks good, isn't really as responsive as I'd like, players feel a little heavy (Video game me should be able to react on defense better than real me) I'm not asking to be Scotty Pippin immediately but I can't even attempt to recover to at least contest a layup that would go in but look a little more realistic having someone there. It's kind of tough to get assists as a rookie on HOF difficulty but I'll figure it out.

I didn't read up on this game too much before I got it because I did that last year then PC got jipped on features that really sounded cool to me. So I was really surprised to find out that I'm best friends with Andre Drummond and he can talk to me, which IS awesome. It would be more awesome if the voice acting was a little better and not so stone faced like Skyrim was.

Speaking of Skyrim! The game takes up 50GB which is like 8 Skyrims.

Edit: This is almost worse than I thought. Instead of making the AI smarter on harder difficulties they just make your character artificially slower which is stupid.

Steve Kerr is an announcer, Stan Van Gundy's guy looks like the penguin from batman. Passing is not working right or is just made more difficult by the previously mentioned crap with difficulty level I can't tell. Myteam still doesn't work, neither does the park, or anything else online as far as I can tell.

Javale McGee and Dwight Howard doing turnaround fadeaway jumpshots from 13ft out? Yup! You betcha. Invisible players interviewing with Doris, yup. Also since when does EVERY player in the NBA shoot jumpshots from 5ft out instead of a wide open layup? Oh yeah even when I do get a teammate the ball around the bucket wide open, does he brick the layup 85% of the time? I don't know why this is. Probably something to do with the difficulty level forcing me to be 80pt Kobe just to win a MyCareer game. BTW all of this stuff is from myCareer because it's the only thing working so far.

Edit 2: Add Joakim Noah to the list of bigs doing turnaround fadeaway jumpers. The game seems to just want you to score 40 pts have 15 rbs and 15 asts to get a win in my career. I'm gonna turn the difficulty down to test this theory because my guys miss WIDE open transition layups all the time. The opposing teams big no matter how bad will alway get like 7 offensive rebounds and convert them almost 100% of the time. If one of the players on myPlayer's team blocks a shot the computer gets it back no matter what. Usually with a wide open layup. My team mates will not jump to block a shot after the opposing PG flies by me. But when I beat an opposing PG literally every defender jumps on me dog pile style. myPark is fun until you run into the 99ovr guy who is 99ovr on the damned 3rd day of the game being out (and playable) So that's pay to win, pointless. The entire game is designed to make you feel like you have to spend money to get VC to play well in myCareer, get cards in myTeam, do well in myPark presumably to do well in myGM. This appears to be a pretty dead eyed version of candy crush in terms of trying to get people to spend extra money on an already 70 dollar game.

Also the sound keeps fading in and out which is really annoying.

I have owned game from last year and improvement is breathtaking. When I watched youtube gameplays, it looked like NBA 2K14, but once you play it, it is amazing and completely different.. MyGM and Myplayer are modes, which gives me satisfaction just by them selves. There is still Myteam and Mypark, which are just that top of the cake.. Offline play with mates is something, which I enjoy even more (full matches with 12 minutes quarters is must). I do not experience any network difficulties out of something ordinary worth to mention. It is best team sport game on the market right now and set´s the next-gen level, which other franchises will be hopefully able to reach regarding to graphics, sound in 3-5 years. And I am not talking about absolutely brilliant gameplay and AI. Every play you make there on the court is so unique - and that is something, in which NBA 2K15 excels like no other game before. I have preoredered the game, been playing since and I recommend this game to everyone, who likes team sports in general. You will not be disappointed with this Masterpiece, you will be amazed!

Please, read this, as it is really not fair to base user score on the things like:

    1) My computer is not fast enough for next-gen, so the game is rubbish.
    2) Problems with online on first few days, because everything is working well right now.

    And now my review:

I have seen some people to point out the negatives in Mycareer. There has been replacement in Mycareer - First draft has dissapeared (which have to, because of the story..), and talking with GM also - yet to be perfectly honest - how many times did you speak to your coach? Once or twive in whole time? On the otherside randomised interaction with staff, coach, players, that is something much more interesting and I am always looking forward to it. In 2k14 have been stereotype patterns, after game press conferences with boring and useless dialogues. First few games it was interesting, but after while? I have enjoyed much more, when they told me that I am on a cover of 2k15 game, or they have put billboard with my player on the street and these kind of things to mix game a bit. And that is what 2K really worked hard on this year. In 2k15 everything feels unpatterned (so far), on and off-court - almost everything you say and do actually change things about your character and affecting how your player, coach, and the other staff acts in situations on and off court. Miss to many threes and coach will be upset to you, when you back to bench. Do not pass the ball around, and coach and one- most important player in your team will tell you. Do not work well as a team on rebounds, again - coach will be really ... . And that is something, which no-other team sport game came ever close to.

On court? Everything is much more about read the situation - in 2k14 you were able to follow same path and get that way points much more easier- it didn´t really matter on what difficulty. AI have been improved so much in this way. In 2k15 you have to be much more illusive and unpredictible, with dribbling, passing, shooting, and deffense. And it is much more rewarding when everything you do works out well. Same as in a real match - sometimes everything is working so perfect, the other time no-matter what, it is so bad and your mates in mycareer doesn´t score single point either. That is something what is going on in mycareer with Orlando Magic - where we occupying last spot from whole NBA - yet, I know it is about team as whole, which is very weak and looking forward to make big line after season and move to some more competetive team. But I do really enjoy game even with Orlando - as it is very close to reality and wondering what it would be like if Howard didn´t go to Rockets and played with me in the same team.. Men, we could make Play-off like nothing.. :D And that is what I am after. I am sure, that diehard fans of the team must have difficult time to accept the reality and therfore in game also. But this is not game about make your team win Play-off after first season, to be honest it is going to be difficult with some teams to get even to Play-off, and that is what is so rewarding about it, you do not have to fight for first spots, there is plenty of challange even on the last spot.

21.10.2014 Update: Ok, after pain in the Orlando - I have moved to Bulls and that is what I am talking about baby, Noah is perfect on Rebounds - in 2k14 I didn´t thing he is any special - but now? I am really glad he is waiting as a shark under basket with very high numbers in rebounds - this was really weak point in Orlando. Same goes with the Layups - Chicago looks really strong side to me. Rose is amazing player. With 12 minutes quarters, whole season in front of me (usualy it takes me 82 day´s to get to Play Off ) and Bulls I am really looking forward to play-offs!

    1. The launch was horrible, till this day I still didn't get my pre-order throwback Durant and two packs, I sent an email to 2K support and hasn't heard back from them in a week and half.

    2. The animation "cheese" in the game is worse than any other 2K game I've played, this time the point guard/shooting guard animations are too powerful, CPU players are consistently shooting above 60% on Superstar and HOF difficulties because their point guard can hit almost all mid-range/inside fadeaways and jumpers with a hand in their face. It gets frustrating especially in MC code where if you try to attack the rim, often your player will get bumped into an animation and will miss layups. Even with a lot of contact you will rarely get free throws, it's about the same in simulation mode.

    3. The online features are suppose to be good, but again the 2K server has made the multi-player barely playable, at least for the first two weeks, I got disconnected many times and lost my character and save once.

I still love NBA 2K series, I just hope there will soon be a patch to address some of theses issues especially regarding the animation and game-play.

    - The game works (well, at least offline).
    - The story mode made me laugh a couple of times. Last year's interviews were a pain and I hated every boring pixel of my player. Now I just lean back, watch cutscenes and enjoy the cheese.
    - Music has improved.
    - Graphics are nice
    - Players have 0-20+ special abilities which is always nice if I need to come up with an explanation about why somebody hit or missed a shot.
    - Nowitzki is still a beast.
    - I can shootaround without having to maneuver through a labyrinth of menu screens.
    - Gameplay hasn't got worse.

Best game of 2014 for me so far.

Defensive players remain rooted to the spot which results in you dancing in front of them with no way to get passed large majority of the time. Story mode for MyPlayer is a decent addition as the old draft was likely starting to wear thin for some. Although I personally found it much more appealing than the super cheesy story. Not including the B-Leagues seems like a very strange oversight. GM mode is a lot deeper, although seems very vintage in the menus and navigation and methods of making changes. Seems really sterile. Not bad for a pick up and play with friends. The features that are removed when not online are minimal and people are just crying to make noise. Expand

This game is as good as last year, frustrated kids blame the game because their PC is crap and ISP is worse and can't handle this game therefore they can't connect to a game (I play offline so I don't care) or because they play with a CONTROLLER on PC which is absurd and not very intelligent, I play with a keyboard and I enjoyed it as much as 2k14.

I am not a Basketball fan, but I love this game.
MyCareer is the only mode I play, because, like I said, I have no interest in the NBA whatsoever, but this mode is the best way I have ever played a Career Mode in any game before.
I really love the RPG aspect. And the game itself is never boring and countless times I was under adrenalin like it was a real match and not "just" a game.

But, and this one is a big but, you have to be always online to have a full game here. Without a connection to the 2k Servers you can only play something like a demo. It is no fun at all.
Yes we have 2015 and I myself are always on anyway, but I hate to be forced to be online to play a purchased game, only that they can sell there stupid ingame currency (virtual coins).
Like I said, I am always on anyway and it is a sad trend in recent years so I wouldn't mind it that much.
The big issue here is, that the 2K Servers are really bad. Like now, there is no connection to them since 3 days (!) which is unacceptable for a game which forces you to always be online. Since 3 days I can't play more than a demo and with me countless players worldwide.
Besides that, if you use Win 10 you have no way to connect to the Servers all the time!
I read today, that at the end of this month the Servers for the predecessor 2k14 will be shut down. Which means, that the game 2k15, which I bought last month, will be more than a demo only for a year.
Because of that and the Server connection fail, I give this great game, which deserves otherwise a 9/10 or even 10/10, a 1/10 rating! And I feel generous for this 1 point.

Game feels outdated compared to other sports games. They have been using the same engine since the dreamcast-ps2 era. There are no physics on this game, just canned animations.

It's the last 2k game I buy until they finally decide to work on improving the game and implement some kind of realistic physics engine, like NHL or Fifa do

If you want to have realistic scores and stats during the NBA today or quick matches, you should adjust the sliders, but that was always the case since I can remember the old NBA Live games. But hey, we PC players now have full next-gen NBA game with great modes such as MyCareer (with working multiplayer in MyPark), my GM better than ever (former dynasty/franchise], so really many small add-on within the game that make it complex basketball entertainment.
Nevertheless, there are 2 things missing in the game which I am dissapointed about; first, there is no option the save the replay and I have no idea why.... Secondly, there is no more the option to create your own team. I was always creating my own decade teams (like the best players from the 70s, 80s, 90s and so on...), but this is no more possible, unfortunately.
To make a conclusion, NBA 2K11 was the best BBall game ever made but this 15 version is (now after the patches) a superb game too. If you do not have it don't be discouraged by the negative reviews here and get it!

Stat overlays are missing when the commentators talk about who or which team led the NBA in PPG, RPG, etc.

Online: Terrible. I can't ever find anybody in team-up after waiting for 5 minutes each time. Online quick match is the same person 70% of the time. Never more than 4 occupied courts at once in myPark. 2k servers at fault again separating people for no reason, server browser would've solved this. Rec Center and Stage is seemingly always empty. This game brings a lot to the table, but doesn't deliver. Almost half of the features are either horrid or broken to the extent that they're unplayable. The grading system is broken, the mechanics are broken, and most importantly, your player is broken.

I really dont belive how much the user score is low. I have been a vivid fan of the 2k series for a long time, and this is probably the best 2k game ever, and here is why:

First of all, the graphics are great, even though some player models are too skinny. The crowd animation is fantastic, player faces are realistic. Some of the coaches faces are not really good but thats not the main thing. The gameplay is good but the default simulation sliders are cheesy. The computer attacks the paint too much, grabs too many offensive rebounds, AI is too fast and hits too many contested jumpers and layups, but once i found a realistic slider set on a NBA 2k forum it fixed all of these issues, including the way too fast AI that was unguardable(and i really like the new defence, people there are really bad defenders in the NBA and not everyone plays elite defence, plus you have to be smart about how you guard some players, and the elite superstars...well just like in real life its unrealistic to lock them down but you can contain them with good defensive players), the only thing we are awaiting for is a realistic roster which will fix the too many drives to the basket and not enough mid range and 3p shots by editing the coaching sliders. But overall the AI is improved, they play better defence, they rotate well, they ICE the pick and roll and its easy to turn the ball over if you are not smart, and on offence the new freelance offences improve the gameplay. The Spurs play their motion offence, the Knicks run the triangle, etc...so basically get yourself equipped with a good slider and roster set (i do this every year for 2k) and the gameplay will be much better. I like the new contact system but i dont like the fact there are few fouls called in game.

As for the game mods, my favorite one is the My GM. I loved the assosiation on earlier 2k even though it was broken in some aspect and it was too easy to build a contender. Here you have owners who are realistic counterparts of real life owners, you have goals you have to meet otherwise you are out. Training has been completly changed and is now realistic, you have to be careful how you are developing a player, injuries are so realistic, for example you have to watch Derrick Rose and his knees, and if you dont he will get injured often and there is a chance his knees will break down later in his career. Drafting is revamped, you have to be careful who you draft, you could get a steal of a player if you scout well, and if you dont, you may get a bust out of a player so you have to scout carefully, watch the mock drafts, big boards, and the social media. It is such a fantastic mod, even though the AI trade logic is still a little broken but overall probably the best mod ingame. My League is similar do My GM but i havent tried it. My Team is awesome, i love collecting cards and players, and the My Careear i really dont like, the story is a bit cheesy, i do like how you start undrafted and have to fight for a contract, and then you get to go to free agency which is fun, but you player starts very raw, and the new atrribute system doesnt let you create the player you want.

Overall, the game is great, i really dont understand the criticism.

The higher difficulty modes make your teammates retarded schoolyard players and the opposing team players ALL MICHAEL JORDAN skilled players. Forget playing Hall of Fame mode, unless you like being frustrated beyond anything that has ever pissed you off before in a game! Your teammates will suck and you will lose...A LOT! If the opposing team is shooting over 50% throughout the game forget about a win. Also if you are winning going into the 4th quarter, beware AI CHEESE!!! For instance one game I was up 9 points with 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter...all of sudden the basket had a top on it for every one of my teammates. We couldn't score if our life depended on it. But the opposing team scored 17 straight points!!! 17!!!! For 4 and a half minutes we didn't score a damn point. In fact to make it worse my teammates were making bad passes. Turned over the ball 3 times on bull**** passes and they were shooting some of the worse shots I had ever seen in my life! And get this...NEVER PASSING THE BALL TO ME...even when I called for it.
Also prepared to be double teamed if you are playing awesome. And it doesn't matter if the opposing team is winning or not. They will still double team your ass no matter what. When in the **** do you see that happening in a NBA game?!?!? When in the 1st quarter does a team who is winning, starts double teaming an opposing player just cause he made 3 of his first 4 shots?!?! I'll tell you when...****ING NEVER!!!!!
Lets talk about defense. Doesn't exist! In Hall of Fame mode your teammates will let guys just walk on right pass them to the hoop! Forget about boxing out! The AI doesn't even know what the **** that is! In fact you will get out-rebounded on offensive rebounds almost 2 to 1 in almost every...****ing...game!
Oh you might get on a winning streak, 2 or 3 games...but on a tear of like 8 or 10 games? Never gonna happen. Think you might win that championship in your first season? You might. Maybe 1 out of like 100 tries! Hall of Fame mode is complete BULL****! AI in that mode is complete BULL****!
Why make difficulty modes? Why not make a basketball that is challenging but also not complete bull**** that still follows the fundamentals of NBA basketball? If you go to a lower difficulty level within a 10 games you will find the game TOO EASY. Go to Hall of Fame mode...you will instantly hate this game. Not because its a terribly game but because of the drastic changes in AI behavior. Its garbage. The game is fun to play and has its moments. But if you are looking for a challenge...look somewhere else. Unless of course you like getting frustrated with your NBA games.

    Pros:
    1. MyGM feature has been very entertaining. Not considering the gameplay, managing a team is fun. Hiring and firing coaches and staff, telling players "you're your boy, blue", scouting, trading, relocating, all-star weekend, summer league, free agency, budget allocation, ticket prices, jersey sells, they are all there.
    2. Including high school and college has been an excellent addition to the myCareer. Actually, it was the only positive thing about myCareer.
    Cons:
    1. The my player feature was one feature that kept getting better each year, but every since 2K14 and introduction of Virtual Currency, they ruined the game. This year, they made it even worse by taking away the experience of being a pro in an NBA. Spike turned my career into one of his crappy movies, filled with stereotypes and soap opera chaos on the screen. It looked like a reality show and opposite of what you would expect as a virtual player representing you.
    2. Game play got worse in many aspects. Defenders gain ability to run faster than the ball, quickly close down on any open player, and rotate while being able to guard two players. Um... have you guys seen an actual NBA game? If defenders in real life were able to do those, Warriors and Spurs wouldn't dominate the league right now.
    3. Real life Curry is more video game like than 2k15. In this game, he misses open shots. Even if the defender is slightly close to him, he fades and throws an airball. While real life Curry drills threes with even slightest of separations from defenders.
    4. Why can't we use legends in Blacktop? the whole point of Blacktop is to play Lebron, Kobe and Curry against Jordan, Magic and Bird.
    5. Seriously, remove screw the VC crap, player progression cap, and include all the cool customization features that are in online mycareer but are completely absent in offline mode.
    6. Pick and roll defense is terrible. The bigs have absolutely no idea what to do when doing pick and rolls. they need some artificial intelligence to know when to switch and when to stay with their man based on the players involved in pick and roll.
    7. We see players like Harden and Otto Porter fall sleep in defense in shaqtin a fool, but based on 2k15 standards, falling sleep in defense in a norm.
