    This game is awesome. There is a great modding community, and the downloadable contents are really good. The good thing about this game is, the whole story is on your hands. You are writing the story. You can do whatever you want. Game isn't saying to you to doing something. You can be ruler of the entire Calradia or you can just play as a merchant. Everything is on your hand.

    Absolutely fantastic Medieval sandbox. Initially I was taken aback by how low quality a lot of the textures and models were but soon found myself lost in the depth of the world and options for advancing my character. The combat initially is extremely difficult but one you get the hang of parrying etc it becomes very gratifying. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is a fan of the RPG genre.

    Really one of the most enjoyable sandbox games I have played. With mods the game experience is getting even more interesting. Maybe not a perfect game (like the lack of siege equipment, and quite a static surrounding in the basic game without mods) still, with all it flaws it is much better than anything else I have seen in the sandbox world. It have room for development.

    Do you like medieval games ? Do you want a complex yet easy to play game ? Mount & Blade : Warband is here for you ! In my opinion, Mount & Blade : Warband is one of the best game I have ever played. I can surely say that over my 1000+ hours of gameplay.

    In Mount & Blade, you start a commoner in the fictional medieval world of Caldaria. You can then slowly get higher in the social    Do you like medieval games ? Do you want a complex yet easy to play game ? Mount & Blade : Warband is here for you ! In my opinion, Mount & Blade : Warband is one of the best game I have ever played. I can surely say that over my 1000+ hours of gameplay.

    In Mount & Blade, you start a commoner in the fictional medieval world of Caldaria. You can then slowly get higher in the social scale. You can marry yourself, try to conquer Caldaria in a whole, and many more. Also, You can become a mercenary company leader, a king, a noble ( who is vassal of a King ) and many more.

    I will now explain why I personally find the game interesting. First, the party system is revolutionary. Indeed, you need to pay and nourish your soldiers, unlike most game that I personally know of. After, we can talk about the fact that unlike most video game, you are never '' safe ''. Indeed, you can lose everything if you do not play well. Even if you have thousands elite soldiers, you never know when two enemy kingdoms can do a alliance and throw 2000 troops, which then overwhelm your army, destroying it, giving the enemy the path to your castle, making your empire slowly fall. Sure, if you are one of those persons that do not like to lose, it may be bad, but personally, I love it. Now, we can talk about how the weapon and fighting system are pleasant. Indeed, it is innovative for the time and is quite amusing. However, out of these points, Mount & Blade still have it's downfall. It's biggest one is obviously it's outdated graphics. But atleast, Mount & Blade : Bannerlord is coming, which will add a lot of functionalitttes and far better graphics.

    In conclusion, Mount & Blade is subjectivly a almost perfect game. If you think that the graphics are not good enough, you should wait for Bannerlord. But if I was you, I couldn't wait to play this beautiful game !

    P.S A lot of the bad review are just people purposivly giving bad rating. When you click on their account, you can see that most of them just gave 0 on a bunch of games.    … Expand

    realistic combat mechanics are still the best in the world. I am training in the sword fight and I can say that I get the best sword satisfaction in this game.Although there have been many years passed, no game has caught this success

    It may not look like much when you see it in videos/photos for the first time but let me tell you that Mount & Blade is a game like no other; Innovative in many aspects.

    In short you start of as a lone commoner with whatever backstory you choose in a open medieval world. You are now free to do as you wish.     In short you start of as a lone commoner with whatever backstory you choose in a open medieval world. You are now free to do as you wish. Most likely you'll want to find some type of goal that reflects the backstory you chose in the character creation. And then you just work your way up in whatever way you want towards that goal. In most scenarios you'll want to recruit people for your cause.

    Whether it is simply being a gladiator in tournaments; or leading a band of pirates and preying on farmers and pillaging villages, ships, etc; or if you want to serve under a king as a lord - commanding hundreds of soldiers on the battlefield as you take part in sieges or whatever political agendas are involved - M&B offers all of it. Or hell; even start your own kingdom where you command other lords. Gaining reputation and being persuasive and charismatic can be just as important, if not more so, as pure combat and strategic skills in this game, depending on what you want to do.

    I think all the different skills highlights how fun and complex this seemingly simple game is. There are skills for how well you engineer stuff (for your own villages, castles, etc.). There are skills governing your leadership ability (how many troops you're able to command, their loyalty to you, how well your army or fleet navigates terrain and seas and tracks other armies, etc.). There are skills on how well you can manage inventory, trade, treat wounds, handle prisoners, etc. Not to mention all your personal skills such as persuasion, riding, endurance, accuracy at bows/crossbows and throwing weapons and how well you do so at horseback, shielding, brute force, athletics, etc. and even how well your recruits learn these abilities from you when you spar with them.

    I have spent countless hours in this game for many years and can't wait of M&B2. And with awesome mods like L'Aigle and battlesize changer you're gonna have some insane battles. 500vs500 infantrymen with muskets is a sight to behold ;)

    The only con to this is that the graphics are pretty bad and of course there's no voice acting... Change that and this game would be a 10/10.    … Expand

Unfortunately, almost none of the foundation is fully realized. As you reach kingdom-scale gameplay, weapon skills, management of minutia (grocery shopping,Warband is an ambitious project that earns the highest marks on its foundation. The scope is perfect, the mechanics are generally well-designed, and I find myself immensely satisfied with both success and failure in the campaign. Unfortunately, almost none of the foundation is fully realized. As you reach kingdom-scale gameplay, weapon skills, management of minutia (grocery shopping, personally recruiting, etc), and relationship management fizzle into chores and meaningless numbers. The visuals are admittedly atrocious, but the game inspires enough imagination to fill in the blanks.

    I just want to hand the design docs to a AAA studio; every part of this game is on the right track, but just needs more attention.    … Expand

    I love this game. It's so open and you can do almost anything. The modding community is fantastic and are always creating something great and new. You will spend hundreds of hours playing this game.

    this is not one of the best madiavel game this is best mediavel game.there is a lot of people play this games single player over 1000 hour ı only play 200 hour because ı dont like mods ı want to bannerlord.

    I love this game as much as I did many other games, it's packed full of excitement, happiness and even frustration. Yes this game can truly make you cry if you did the wrong decision and you lose half your men to some filthy bandits.     I have 250 hours. This game is really good but could be much better. Cities and castles must be better. People are very insensitive. I hope Bannerlord will be better.

Also, lacking a structured narrative can throw you a bit. Положительные стороны - Шикарная боевая система, одна из лучших в играх данного жанра (только направление ударов считаю не очень удобным); - Мультиплеер до 200 человек. Спустя 7 лет он живее всех живых. Со скорым выходом второй части упадёт, но не умрёт уж точно; - Большой мир    Mount & Blade: Warband - шикарная игра.

    Положительные стороны

    - Рыцарские турниры;
    - Коняшки;
    - Осады замков и куча гринда, который по необъяснимым причинам не надоедает;
    - Каждое изображение в достижениях претендует на выставку в галерее, не видел такого отношения к ним в играх;
    - Больше сотни полноценных модов с поддержкой Workshop'а от мира Властелина Колец до Звёздных Войн.

    Отрицательны стороны
    - Высокий порог вхождения, игра не обучает ничему (кр. боёвки). Хотя исследование этих моментов можно назвать интересным.
    - Стоит ли относить сюда графику? - спорно, т.к. игра, очевидно, старая, но для любителей текстурок запишу.
    - В игре нет режима, где есть сюжет с рассказываемой Вам историей. Всё познаётся в фриплее и всё решаете Вы. Мне не хватило историй и "ведения за ручку", но что почитать Вы обязательно найдёте.

    One of my favorite games of all times, 7 years old and still has over 5k players, just shows its play ability, have over 700 hours of gameplay, a must buy for me.

Few compareable games for this part really, at least that has nailed that same wonderful of sense of neverending neverrepeating gameplay, maybe Sid Meiers Pirates had some of it.

    The other part is the battlefield, which is really just an awesome knight-generator.

    Stay away from this game if you value the rest of your sparetime, or stuff like friends, family and loved ones, and career ... Still, just try it once... You'll manage to quit, I promise ;)    … Expand

It so deep and you never get bored! i gave it a 9/10 instead of a 10/10 because of the lack of gore/graphics but try to ignore the graphics, you will have so much fun playing this its also been released on consoles i bought it and loved on console aswel sameMount & Blade Warband...     Tout est à l'avenant dans cet erzatz de jeu programmé avec le fion (même le menu des options est buggué sa mère et la moitié des dialogues sont en anglais... lol !). Cette erreur de la nature a été conçu par une (war) bande de trisomiques. On se croirait revenu 15 ans en arrière. Et encore.

    Une grosse merde infernale comme on en voit (heureusement) assez peu... mais là c'est le pompon !    … Expand

    Perhaps the best game I have played. Great features and gives the player a choice of what to be; a merchant, a warrior, an adventurer, among others.
    NOTE: I highly recommend playing with mods when the game starts getting boring. Mods add a whole new flavor to the game.

    Excellent game on the gameplay side, thanks to modders (Native Expansion is a must have). Worth buying, worth playing. Let's hope Mount and Blade 2 will be better on the visual side, along with enhancements in combat, siege attack and defense.

    The only con to this game is that it is lacking in diplomacy and court affairs...If they added a bit more to scheming    Mount and blade is the ultimate medieval life sim! You start as a lowly peasant or a lowborn outcast noble and try to make a name for yourself. You can become a mercenary for a kingdom or a outlaw. You can become a lord or a king! There is really nothing you cannot do.

This game has ENDLESS replay ability, myself have only scratched the surface with mods,(I have over 2000 hours on this game,its DLC Napoleonic Wars, and its mods.) playing around 30-35 different mods, less than a quarter than allThis is single-handily the best purchase I have ever made. This Game is still greatly active till this day and offers a modding community found only on Warband. The concept here is great and some of the execution is pretty good, too, but unfortunately the game lacks polish in many areas and comes off as a bit too ambitious for its own good. The music isn't particularly memorable or even enjoyable (this is actually one of the few games where I prefer to turn off the in-game music and play something else in the background), NPCs keep repeating the same dialogue over and over again and there isn't any proper voice acting either. The quests are just copy/paste stuff and hardly anything surprising happens anymore after the first 20 hours. There isn't any expansive lore or interesting, well-rounded characters. It's just you and your army trying to become more and more powerful. That's literally the story of this game, so don't buy this if you're looking for a narratively driven experience. The land of Calradia looks and feels dull, you'll be spending a lot of time just traversing around the map without anything to keep you interested. None of the kingdoms have any real personality to them, making it hard to feel invested if you decide to fight for one of them.

    Would I still recommend the game, though? Surprisingly, yes. Like I said, the concept here is great and there aren't many games out there like this. I love the idea of starting from nothing and slowly becoming more and more powerful and influential. The combat system is one of the highlights of the game, even though the mostly bad AI sometimes tries its best to ruin the experience (lance fights in the arena, anyone?). It's also easier to forgive many of the flaws when taking into consideration that it's not an expensive game, currently just 20€ on Steam.

    Overall, I think this is a good game, something that will take up a lot of your time and keep you entertained for quite a while. The modding scene is also very vibrant, lot of good stuff there. This game just could be a whole lot better.    … Expand

    The best game I have ever played! The graphics are old and ugly but thast not a problem for me. Everything else is great. 10/10. You can easily play it for hundrets of hours. Just buy it ;D

Basically if you've ever fantasized about being a knight, or a lord, or even a king, this is the game for you. It's a sandbox where you can choose to do whatever you want. You can recruit new units toMount & Blade: Warband is an EXCELLENT game. It takes place in a medieval setting, in the fictional world of Calradia (though the different kingdoms have obvious real world counterparts). Basically if you've ever fantasized about being a knight, or a lord, or even a king, this is the game for you. It's a sandbox where you can choose to do whatever you want. You can recruit new units to your party at villages, win big money in tournaments, join up with a kingdom and lay waste to their enemies, or become a bandit yourself and burn down any village you choose. Your character in the game is created and customized by you, and he (or she) levels up through killing enemies and completing quests given by lords, guild masters, or village elders. When you level up you give points to your attributes, your skills, and your weapon proficiencies. Obviously one of the highlights of Warband is the ability to form your own kingdom and be a king yourself, although you will usually need to put many hours into the game, building up your army and your relationship with other lords to make them allies, to do this successfully.

    This game has no real story, character development, or any ending at all, which may turn off some. But for me the all the things you can do in the game are well worth the current $20 price on Steam. Now, Warband is basically an updated version of the original Mount & Blade, and it contains some new features (such as marriage), so I recommend skipping the original and just getting this. There's also another game, titled Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword, which takes place farther in the future with guns and all that, but I never really got into it. However, there is a real sequel coming later this year which I am very excited for called Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.

    The last things I would like to mention are the two DLC modules for this game, Napoleonic Wars, a very good multiplayer mod I would highly recommend, and Viking Conquest, which switches the game to a viking setting and actually has a plot to it, which is very cool. Also, there is a TON of mods that have been released for this game, so for $20, you really are getting a lot. In conclusion, I would say Warband is near perfect (though one negative I can mention is that the graphics are a bit dated), and it's well worth it's price and more.    … Expand

    Five years i've had this, keep going back to it when other games bore me. There's so many complete overhaul mods that you're basically getting 100 games for the price of one. Please release bannerlord soon so I can throw money at you!

From there, you are free to roam the world and discover what lays within. Whether that be winning over a kingdom's loyalty and leading their armies into battle or becoming a highway bandit, robbing farmers and traders of their goods.

    The combat system has a Final Fantasy-esque quality to it. While roaming on the over world, you will bump into other characters which usually starts a dialog. Battles then can take place, playing you in first or third person, either mounted or afoot. From there, you will lead your soldiers into battle, issue commands and forming lines.

    The greatest downfall of Mount and Blade Warband is the AI, particularly the path finding which is rather predictive and very easy to exploit. Siege battles are very little more than many people trying to zerg their way up a ladder or siege tower and into a meat grinder. For these reasons, I have deducted a point from the game.

    Moving onto the multiplayer; the system features game modes such as Battle, where everyone on each side only respawns at the beginning of the battle and the game is over when one side has eliminated the other, death match, duel and siege. The online multiplayer, a feature of the Warband expansion, is a great experience and can allow players to hone their skills

    Probably the most requested feature for multiplayer is a multiplayer campaign, which is sadly not available. The multiplayer is purely arena-like with no continuity from map to map or server to server.

    Overall, Mount and Blade Warband is a very entertaining Medieval combat game that continue to provide hours of fun for even seasoned players.    … Expand

    The (optional) tutorial is pretty useless, since it doesn't explain most important basics to you.
    Yes you learn "fight" with different weapons, cope with a unresponsive control-system that was clearly designed with a motion-control in mind or a not-thought-through-idea of ... erm... "realism" in mind.
    But it doesn't introduce you to so many important points like commanding your troops, cope with multiple enemies, give you feedback ... nada!

    If you expect combat-mechanics like in Skyrim with a mix of Dark Messiah of M&M or Chivalry, put your expectations far away!
    You are in for a unresponsive and buggy mess.
    Arrows can go just through your enemies without even hurting them, hit-detection of your melee-weapons is right off buggy and you can't even run!
    Since there is no gore you just have to rely on a little text that tells you how much damage you actually deal.
    This buggy mess tries to give you the impression of a medi eval-battle-sim, and can't even manage to add gore by default!
    Prepare to get backstabbed a lot.

    You are NOT travelling through a huge world like trailers and screenshots might suggest. No! You are just slowly moving on an overwold map, clicking with your mouse and waiting sometimes for a response.
    The (often random) battles are fought in a relatively small area with invisible walls everywhere!

    The OST. A mess like everything else in this game. The most random, unepic and generic "medi-eval"-songs shoved into low-quality .ogg files, you can imagine.(Hell! They even put in a Hallelujah-Chorus! WTF?!) Looped of course!
    No way getting mods for music replacements!

    ("Dialogues" are presented in an ugly interface and are at least interesting to read, but your choices are totally irellevant, since yourt options often give you random answers.
    For example: A Guy at the bar talks to me about joining my army. Why would I ask hima bout a kidnapping I never even heard of before in response?! ANd man, why isn't it at least half-way voiced - like BG managed years ago?!)

    It's a shame you are expected to pay 20 bucks for this unpolished waste of time (and 20 another bucks for a DLC with guns...)!    … Expand

    A terrible tutorial, or lack there of. Caused me to waste so many hours and I am no where up to speed. Great idea with some terrible execution. Unless you enjoy wasting 20 (unenjoyable) hours learning, find a different game.

Boy have I dreamed of something like this for ages, with no spells and magical creatures and grand battles where you are just one of the soldiers.     - Optional hardcore difficulty settings
    - Your choices matter in shaping the world
    - If you don't like something about the native game mode, there has probably been a free mod released by the community fixing it effectively like it's the 90s again
    - Dozens of free awesome total conversion mods, including one of Sengoku Japan called Gekokujo (my personal favorite), a War of the Fifth Coalition one, a Middle Earth one, a Crusades one, and a future-of-native-scenario one, plus the paid expansions by the developers which are also great

    CONS:
    - Graphics look straight out of 2000 with DirectX features sprinkled on top; mediocre graphical art assets do this no favors
    - Occasionally frustrating game mechanics like the randomness of tournaments, the obviously team-based "melee" with enemies dropping out of the sky instead of all starting simultaneously, being unable to besiege a castle without first declaring war via an enemy noble, some castle sieges have excruciatingly slow siege tower pushes, many Khergit units are simultaneously useless and yet impossible to kill or capture, and so on
    - Some bugs that will befuddle you, but probably not crash the game, like your units being immobilized in the air after standing on a siege tower
    - "It's all there in the manual," would take hundreds of hours to learn if you don't Wiki the game, though it is possible
    - Questionable design choices like AIs that can block perfectly with their weapons, which just so happen to be indestructible unlike their shields, or the kick which is almost useless in the singleplayer campaign
    - 9 save slots per module, very strange for a game that is otherwise so strongly PC-centric
    - Some skills are actually useless even though there's no indication: throwing weapons are basically terrible in every way except that they can be used with a shield so power throw is folly, iron flesh does very little to help you (though the description may clue you in to this), the bonus from trade is rather small (the description does not clue you in to this), prisoner management is basically pointless after one or two points, and tactics requires an insane investment for almost no reward
    - Occasional lapses in pacing can make the game appear overall boring to newcomers

    If you ever said that the combat in Skyrim is boring, if you ever thought knights or mamelukes or Mongol warriors were awesome, if you liked Dynasty Warriors or Dark Souls but wanted something less Japanese, if you played AoE 2 and wanted it to be a strategy/action RPG instead of a RTS, if you liked Total War but wanted more engaging combat, or if you're one of these SCA or HEMA types, I'd be rather surprised if you haven't played this game already because it's likely up your alley.

    If you're not big into indie games, need a game that reliably requires only a small investment of learning or time, or don't have the hand-eye coordination, reflexes, or grit to at least order a dozen troops around a battlefield in real time if not partake in somewhat realistically timed medieval combat, then you might want to skip this one. Also, if you're new to games and you start out with this it's going to make you cynical for the rest of your life because you're going to see just how banal and derivative most games are, so beware of that also.

    Great game no flaws. Started playing the original (indi game) and has been great. Needs more publicity i think. Also great modding community behind it. Diplomacy for example is a great add on. (and free of charge)

    This is by far the best low budget game I have ever played and it will work well even for potato PCs. The Napoleonic Wars DLC could be better though. Its worth much more than the current $20 price tag since I have clocked over 100 hours on this game. WARNING: THIS IS THE ONLY GOOD M&B GAME

    - Repetitiveness of tasks after a certain time
    - Some bugs (but nothing serious)

    But! If you are not satisfied with the Native version, you SHOULD check other options, like Floris Expanded, A Clash of Kings, Prophesy of Pendor, A New Dawn, Gekokujo, Brytenwalda or Viking Conquest mods (for singleplayer), not to mention some interesting mods for multiplayer (like Persistent World or Napoleonic Wars). They usually add to the game so much that it’s twice as good. You can also adapt them to your own preferences using TweakMB, MB/WFAS Editor or other modding tools – all of them are available for free! Just google it!

    One of my favourite games, really. A great game using some rpg aspects and its a really good medieval simulator but on a fantasy continent: "Calradia". Lords, Kingdoms, Wars, Great battles, different troops and a loooot of mods, game of thrones mods, strategy mods, europe mods... Try it, what are you waiting for?

    I cannot write what is great in this game, because you have to experience it yourself. This is one of my most favorite games. And i played it for endless hours. If you like an open game, where you can develop yourself without leading story, you are right with this game.

    I must have lived off the grid , not buying this game till recently. What a masterpiece of gaming goodness. I rated it ten, but really a 9.8 for lack of gore, but it such a minor gig that it really doesn't matter. This game is endless amounts of fun.

    A very good game that I can easily recommend that recreates the medieval world of the feudal system. Has a good modding community that lets you improve on or step outside that time period. There's literally hundreds of hours of gameplay awaiting you with this title when you get into it

It's a refreshing change of pace to everything else out there because there isn't anything out there that does this.     The game is a medieval sandbox where you start out as a peasant with nothing but the clothes on his/her back and a sword or other assorted pointy object. The world is is chaos. The isolated kingdom of Calradia is in a state of civil war and everyone wants the throne. You do as you want in this world. Hunt bandits, be a mercenary in the war, a merchant establishing a global monopoly on bread or if you have a taste for that sort of thing try to sneakily establish yourself as one of the major power players in the war with the possible final goal of taking the throne for yourself.

    The games graphics are not special. In fact they're down right awful but it doesn't really get in the way of gameplay which is quite the acheivement.

    Combat isn't very complex but it can be quite difficult to master.

    And the thing that really makes this game that good is... mods. The moddabillity of this game is astounding. it's so easy that with no idea about programming even I was able to get into the files (and promptly create a rouge race of supersoldiers...oops.). This is reflected in the community with some mods being so large they are bigger than the base game. One in fact landed getting sold as DLC by the developers.

    The multiplayer. I don't normally do multiplayer. In fact I didn't even enjoy this multiplayer section of the game yet it must be said that it exists and for many is the main attraction of the game. The battles can be huge and chaotic and an all round blast if you can get into it. However I didn't manage too for very long due to being squashed by seemingly everyone (obviously I suck at this game). The DLC adds a lot to the multiplayer and if that's why you're buying the game I suggest picking them up.

    Final verdict; 9 out of 10 (with mods)
    This game seemed to scratch an itch I didn't know I had and will go down in my favorite game list no doubt. There isn't much else to say other than it's ridiculously cheap and if you're feeling like... scratch that whatever you're feeling mods probably have it covered. Without mods it would have probably only scored a 7 out of ten so make sure to get them. (especially the 1000 man battle mod because that stuff is crazy)

It is not perfect, graphics are not great and for beginning players you can feel really lost and I could see some dropping out because of this. Where your block only works if you block in the right direction. Where your soldiers start deserting if you don't pay them or run out of food. Where you have to take a break from swinging your own axe to give your soldiers a new command. Where a lance charge takes out almost everything first time. Where you have to steer your horse, control its speed and also time and angle the swing of your sword at the same time. Where if you've got the wrong equipment in a battle or run out of arrows you can go back to your camp and get more or change weapons. Where you can catch and ride a riderless enemy mount. Where you ride at fleeing enemies, firing arrows into their backs from your horse - choosing the elevation and power in your bow draw (but not aiming for too long or else your arms get tired and you lose accuracy). Compare that to combat in Dragon Age Inquisition where simply holding the mouse button down and standing still is a viable strategy!… Expand

    Worse than its predecessor, better graphics and more options to do in RP, but worse combat and AI. Fancy combat moves which have no place and mostly wont hit, like mounted attack right into horses head. Rubber horses are back, even in my favourite mod Brytenwalda. I still like first game most of all M&B's.

    Warband is one of the best games I've ever played and I play games since the early 90's. As long as you have half a brain I can wholeheartedly recommend it. Get also the mod 'Anno Domini 1257' coz this one even made performance in larger battles perfect (somehow?) while I was struggling with FPS in Vanillia.

    Two hours into the game Tundra Bandits stole my horse. Fifteen hours later and over 300 bandits sold to the Ransom broker.....still no sign of my horse.

    What I Love:
    If I get swarmed by two or more enemies I get killed.
    Two javelins to the face and I am out.
    Made a bad decision and lost my horse and weapon....all I had left was my bow and some dried meat. It took me close to four hours to get back to where I was.
    Decisions....who do I help....who can I trust.....how much can I afford......
    Fighting mechanics....directional blocking and hitting......
    The sound effects when I make contact with my two handed ax from my horse.
    Helping villagers.
    Caring about my Warband and all the time I put into training them.
    Reading a book takes longer than just pushing a button.
    Weapon skills are advanced by using them.
    The emotions of seeing a village you helped getting looted by a 200+ army and not being able to do anything about it.
    Feeding my Warband butter.
    Not going on a game wiki and discovering new things....
    On going destruction and sense of despair....smoke rising from looted villages.

    My first battle with 7 new recruits against 12 bandits....pure mayhem!!!! We got slaughtered.....    … Expand

    Got the game with all DLCs and expansions for €20 off steam, definitely worth it, probably the best medieval game i have played after AOE2. Played over 15 hours and just become a vassal and got 2 castles, as a normal mercenary doing the tasks was fun but had to run away from big armies, now Im capturing forts without aid, Amazing

    i like this game except the repetitive quest and battles and some map bugs. Really unique from all other medieval or rpg games i played. There are still work to be done in strategic aspects. Like in Crusader Kings II where you have many choices that can impact the outcome of your dynasty and not repetitive quests and battles.

    A first you are involved in dealing with brigands, ruffians, looters and deserters. Nothing that would bring down the wrath of some local lord on you. Eventually you join one side or another as a mercenary so you have an idea of how combat with regular troops works.
    Once you have done some battles you will be eventually involved in a siege.. either as the assaulting party or as the defending party.
    It is all exciting at first.
    At first..
    But after a while this game starts to bore. It bores because it doesn't offer much more than this,
    There is no story line. Conversations with characters have at the best three options and are quickly explored. Once you start your own empire you find out that diplomacy has only four options: declare war, ask for a truce, submit to an adversary or say hello.
    Handling the affairs of you own empire is equally rudimentary implemented. Taxes you have no control over. Handling your lords comes down to giving them a fief, which will increase your influence with them, but decreases your influence with all your other lords. This limits the amount of lord you actually can handle to below ten.
    There is a kind of romance system, which I didn't explore.
    There is a rudimentary trade system, which is useless. Useless because it involves you in buying goods at town a to sell them at town b for a small profit. But given the limited inventory, the limited amount of goods at town a and the fact that town b always is at the other side of the map and thus takes a long time to travel to, it hardly makes give you enough profit to even cover the expense of the army you need to protect you.
    The only other economical thing you can do is buying a factory.. only one per city. The factory brings in money and you have almost no control over the production.
    And that is about it.
    The game then excels in boring repetition.
    Sieges are probably the worst aspect in the game. You can't let the AI handle them as your losses will increase tenfold, so you have to do every siege of every castle and town yourself. These sieges come down to shooting matches which go on until the enemy has no more people left of so few you can ask them to surrender. Which only happens when you have around five time the troops. Consider this: at the max you have around 150 men. The usual castle has around 150 to 200 men. To get them to surrender you have to kill around 130 to 170 men.
    Cities are even worst, some have like 400 men and even more if a lord is also defending that city.
    What is even worse is that these lords regenerate troops very fast. I once had to assault a town containing 5 lords.. and when I marched off to get new troops I found upon returning that they had regenerated fifty troops.. including some elite troops.
    The fact that things look refreshing from a 1st/3rd person view at first and that each castle and city seem to be unique doesn't make the boring tedious sieges any better to bear.
    Recruiting is another woefully boring part in the game. You will be needing a lot of troops to man your castles and towns and you get most of them by recruiting them from the villages. This involves you in travelling around the map recruiting villagers and then transport them to a town or castle to garrison them. Since the amount of villagers you can recruit is limited you will be doing a lot travelling around the map. The game has no automated mechanism to handle recruiting.
    The AI also never gives up. Once you have conquered almost all the cities and castles of an enemy you might think he will surrender, but no way. They all go on until you have capture everything he owns.
    So the game thus boils down to doing sieges and more sieges and even more sieges. Perhaps do some battles in between before doing more sieges and even more sieges. And once you have captured enough castles you have to recruit and recruit and recruit to collect a garrison to protect them.

    So if you like to sit through dozens upon dozens of battles and sieges, most of which are totally irrelevant but which you have to do yourself because the AI is to inept to handle things well, than this is the game for you.
    If you are looking for a game with a good story line, interesting conversations and a involved background - the things that you associate with a good role play game- than this is definitely not the game for you.

    This game is a bit rough around the edges, but this kind of gameplay is something I really haven't found with anything else. A fitting description for this game might be "Medieval simulator" or something like that. It is EXTREMELY addictive and I can't see myself putting it down anytime soon despite my already countless hours. Would highly recommend to any strategy or Medieval lover.

    The not so good:
    - The graphics are a bit dated, and some of the combat can be a bit repetitive
    - The menu's and options are a little haphazard in their layout.
    - Unfortunately, creating your own kingdom can be a real nightmare, and absorb way too much time.

    I've managed to play over 600 hours on this game getting all the single player steam achievements. I highly recommend using Diplomacy Mod or any other mod with Diplomacy built in. I sucked hard at low levels, but kept at it until I ruled all Calradia. This has been one of the few games I've bought recently where I know I got my money's worth.

Having barely attempted the Multiplayer aspect or many of the overhaul gameplay mods available, I strictly turn my attention over to "vanilla" Mount & Blade: Warband and its singleplayer campaign- if you can honestly call itThe amount of attention a game like Mount and Blade has received has been both positive and negative, but strangely, even years after its release, its still positive. Having barely attempted the Multiplayer aspect or many of the overhaul gameplay mods available, I strictly turn my attention over to "vanilla" Mount & Blade: Warband and its singleplayer campaign- if you can honestly call it that. You are dumped in a world known as "Calradia", and after a rather brief role playing game configuration character screen, you'll pick skills that will effect how you'll play, how you'll fight, or how you'll manipulate the economy or control your band of would-be-rent-a-warriors throughout the experience. Trouble is, their is only but so much you actually need to get through Warband as far as the actual "game" is concerned. Strictly speaking, you should either be a melee character i.e. swords and shields, an archer i.e. crossbows or bows, or an intelligent merciless mercenary i.e. medic skills or being (at times hard to believe) immensely influential over various NPC's- which is apparently a skill a person can "level up" as well. First things first, if you don't trade, build enterprises or loot, you will be fighting all manner of bandits till the end of time. Nord bandits make the most money, hand out the most experience, and ultimately produce the most valuable loot to sell off to various city markets. You can easily a quire ten or so Knights from any faction (aside from the Nords and Rhodoks) and commence this endless harvest of Denars, (the games term for "gold" or money) experience and some of the best armor and weapons in what I'd like the call "the mid-game" period. After this, you simply become a mercenary for a faction, help out here and there and "poof" you can join up and become a semi-permanent addition to a kingdom. This is where the game crawls to a halt. If you're not at war, you will be scavenging for money and loot, if you are at war you will be scavenging for villages to plunder and enemy lords to battle. If you're not doing any of those things, than it means you were trying to protect the many fiefs, Castles or cities that have suddenly been given to by your King for likely being such an awesome person or maybe he just thinks your a swell guy/ gal for having more renown and honor than any other lord in his cabinet. Politics aside, Mount & Blade is fun. Its "simulation" fun, its "babysit army" fun, its tedious battle fun, but it has a combat system not seen since "Dark Souls" and it does having a learning curve. That's more than a lot of titles can claim these days. However, once you've effectively broken the game, this skill ceiling literally collapses under the weight of an antiquated engine, terrible artificial intelligence, and a random sequence of events that can suddenly cause two even three kingdoms to declare war on yours and wreck everything you've been working towards in a matter of weeks. To "break" this game, all you need are all the major medic skills and your intelligence up to 30, once this is complete, you can commence leveling up your Charisma and begin to drag around hundreds of men to do whatever you need at that point. After this, battles become a breeze (even your armies configuration hardly matters) and near one hundred Swadian Knights, for instance, suddenly become your best friends in all the world. This strategy also works with Rhodoks infamous "Sharpshooter" crossbow infantry. Who, as long as they have a hill to perch upon or any elevation whatsoever, are practically invincible and tear apart armies double yours. The true failing of the game, is that after awhile, money stops mattering, skills you once thought about investing in become pointless as you already have enough men to fight without you ever being involved. It eventually does become "babysitting" and no their isn't a better way of putting it. Their is supposedly an automated battle system that is very poorly programmed and tends to output miserable losses on your side, so it best not ever be used unless you have no choice obviously. However this brings up an even worse problem for when you have the ability to heal your army in a matter of half a day the NPC lords are suddenly not particularly scary. Even if you "lose" and "leave" a battle, but take no losses of your own you can march right back up that same enemy army and annihilate them as they've been unable to recover from their losses as quickly as you've been able to. This works for Castle sieges, 2-1 battles, and even looting villages. I understand the game is old, but the developers need to consider putting more effort into a singleplayer experience that is actually fun, not tedious or repetitive and ultimately easily abused. Its a shame, as most of the game is quite well designed even for not having an actual goal to work towards or a story to follow. The more you play the sooner things begin to stagnate.… Expand

    •Battles - The fighting system and horse riding is incredibly fun and awesome. It's very realistic so it mostly depends on your skill. You can even defeat many enemies self if you are skilled enough.
    •Factions - You may help one faction to earn respect, improve your relationships (which is very important) or help other factions as well, fight against enemy lords, help villagers, get married etc. Later you can also create own faction and possibly conquer other factions and the whole Calradia!

    Problem is, the game is easy to learn, OK, but very Very VEry VERy VERY HARD to master.

    What made this game particularly special though, were the sheer amount of modded gaming engines available to download. I played the Roma Bellum mod, and the only description I can give is superb.

    Mount & Blade: Warband is an extremely entertaining game. While starting off as an adventurer, and being able to work yourself up to higher than a king. The game allows you to do things your way and doesn't set a specific path for you to follow. I have played for over 50 hours on this game, and am still playing it quite commonly.

    Brillant game, one of my favorites, recommendable. Wonderful multiplayer, great community of players, nice maps, a lot of fun. Real medieval times, no dragons, no magic. Of course fractions are imaginary but based on real. We have a lot of mods, I recommend Floris Mod Pack - significantly expands game for single player, game gets even better and more extensive.

    First you really cannot find that fighting system anywhere and any game and the fighting and warfare ,s really pretty and it seems they going to improve it in Taleworlds' sequel to Warband: Mount&Blade Bannerlord.

    Good sand Box game in medieval setting. What really makes it shine is the replay value in the many fan made mods. Game play tweaks as well as total Conversions. How does being a noble holding fief for King Robb of the North sound? Well before the red wedding I may add.

    The singleplayer experience is quite fun, but, being a pure sandbox game, gets boring and very repetitive quite fast. To best enjoy the singleplayer sandbox one has to play without exploiting the numerous exploit possibilities, otherwise instead of becoming a challenging experience it turns into repetitive grinding and soon after unbearable boredom. So I would say that this game is better when you set some rules for your game. For example, when a warband loses a battle and I your player is made prisoner, the game setback is to remove a few ingame money from your purse and sometimes one item from your inventory, what I do in my games is to remove randomly 50% of my gear so that defeat has a big impact, this keeps my sandbox experience alive and challenging for a longer time.

    The mutiplayer experience is fun, but be prepared to run against players who know all the exploits and tricks, making the game far from the "realistic" setting you may hope for.

    Finally, there's lots of amazing mods, both multiplayer and singleplayer mods, some are very detailed and open lots of possibilities, others are simple and change some game mechanics, this mods keep the game alive for much longer and they get to the point they are much better than the vanilla game, much better.

    Emotionally I would give this game a 9, but I don't believe I can rate a game just for the good moments it provided me, so taking into account the repetitive and boring nature of it after a while, some bugs and some game mechanics I don't think are particularly very well done, I think a 7 is a good score, but keep in mind, this game will give you lots of remarkable moments, totally worth it.    … Expand

    Quite simply one of the best games I've ever played. The graphics leave a lot to be desired and the learning curve is steep, but the combat and rpg elements are exceptional, and if you set goals and roleplay you'll find yourself completely immersed in a narrative you created yourself.

It's a huge and imaginative game that is well worth the money. Unfortunately it has numerous glaring flaws. The graphics are not good. They will often ignore you or leave themselves wide open to be attacked. During siege battles you will often see enemies simply standing in place staring into oblivion for no reason. The diplomacy and relations part of the game is very poorly fleshed out. As a ruler, it is impossible to stay in good standing with your vassals. There are like a million ways to lose relation, but only about 3 ways to gain it. These flaws are huge, but they don't prevent the game from being a enjoyable experience.… Expand

    The idea of this game is really great. Real-time first-view medieval fight, exciting. And you can play it with joy for a while. Then it starts to get boring. The main problem: 1. No plots. Because that's something which can keep you playing. 2. Repeated wars, fights, duals with no new things coming up. 3. The graphics... 4. I don't see a new version of this game coming...

    It is one of the best games i have ever played.
    I liked the Singleplayer because of building an empire and don't be bound to follow a storyline and because you can do what you want.
    But most of the time playing Mount and Blade iam playing the Multiplayer because i like this medieval setting and this action based combat mechanics. I think this is the best opportunity for people who like    It is one of the best games i have ever played.

    This game is just amazing. It has a large island with different kingdoms. Each kingdom has relations with each other, resulting in wars and alliances. You can mess with this system, or ignore it and make money alone. You can become whoever you want, be a lone traveler, be a merchant, be a leader of an army, or be a notorious bandit. The combat system and commands for your party makes thisThis game is just amazing. It has a large island with different kingdoms.     Warband added some cool things, and some not cool things. The first thing I have to point out is that they destroyed the charge system on horseback. In some scenarious I am trying to poke an enemy with a lance or spear but fail to do so because of the horrible charge timing(how fast the player swings), it might just be my skill, but the original game play on horseback(charging etc.)wasWarband added some cool things, and some not cool things.     This is a fantastic, fantasy sandbox game. Emphasis on the sandbox. PROs: the modding community is absolutely fantastic, it's what makes the game so great. Fun combat, very immersive, distinct factions, cool battles and sieges, mounted combat. Graphics are ok. There are patches that really make them great.     Game is totally broken. No servers load so I can't play. I tried to fix it by turning off firewall and changing the ini but nothing works. Don't buy this broken game you will be wasting your money, it's broken and unplayable.

    Better game that I thought it would be and even better with the best mods in place. I played it for about 50 hours without mods before finally giving in to see what it would be like with them... and wow I've already spent close to 200 hours in this game (and I've yet to conquer all of Calradia haha, and in my defense, it's harder than it first seems).     I honestly am not a big fan of the fighting aspect because its rather rough and could use more polish and fluidity in my opinion. Again, mods help improve this aspect of the game along with most other gripes I originally had (such as more variety in towns/taverns/castles maps since in vanilla they're mostly carbon-copies of one another)

    Without mods this would be a 9/10 for me, but with mods it's definitely 10/10.

    Literally a choose-your-own destiny type of game that gives you the freedom to do whatever the hell you want. Recommended!    … Expand

Though I played a lot of the original Mount & Blade and gave it a 10/10, I've barely touched single player since I bought Warband.     While the game may not be the prettiest one around, it still one of the games with the most variety. You can make your character go from a lowly street beggar to the king of the continent. The game allows you to do whatever you want whenever you want, sure it may not have an intense story like TES but the game play is just wonderful.

    Although there is still room for improvement, Warband's excellent combat system, respectable multiplayer and a lifespan that will prove to be a total timesink means that the game is well worth the USD$29.99 price tag on Steam. Fans of the action RPG genre and medieval games in general would do well to pick this one up.

    All in all, Mount and Blade: Warband is a great game, even despite its flaws. The overall concept is satisfying, and with a more heavyweight publisher behind the team at TaleWorlds, this is one game that could be absolutely great.

    On the one hand, there are the open world and the freedom to do what you want to do, on the other hand, the world is lifeless. It's a great game for some people, but the opposite for most.
