Game play is short and the overall experience is uneven. There are simply too many moments spent trying to figure out what the level designers are trying to get you to do to move through a section, too many over-powered opponents for no good reason, and too many moments where the game takes over to move you on rails to the next event. All of that absolutely ruins the game by pulling the player entirely out of the experience and that's a real shame as the graphics are stellar, the voice acting adequate and the atmosphere foreboding. But invariably, every time you start to get drawn in by the story, the art and the action, something happens to pull you right back out. It's unfortunate. I think the best test for me of what separates a great game from a mediocre one is this: would I go back and play it again, even just part of it? No chance for Metro: Last Light; while it does have a few flashes of brilliance, the game play is ultimately just too disjointed. Expand

light and water effects are awesome.

    the negative things:
you have to pay 50€ for a game and then you have to BUY a harder difficulty as a dlc? what?

the game has a lot of bugs, if you walk around too much, you regulary get stuck, or you fall out of the map, or enemies get stuck, etc.

enemy ai is terrible, if you can even talk about INTELLIGENCE in this constellation.
the human enemies can sometimes be stabbed in the face without reaction,

the mutants run at you like an unstoppable force, all you can do is headshot them to make them less annoying.

the story itself is interesting but the gameplay makes the game so dull and monotonous that i was just happy that its over.

metro last light is an awesome graphic demo, with terrible game features.

wait for a sale, its not worth more than 10€ $10

The game is a worthy sequel to Metro 2033, and in most aspects it's better, feeling more polished. The story is very good, although the ending was quite not what I expected, yet it leaves lots of questions to be answered in a future sequel. The atmosphere and overall feel are very impressive, and reflects the slavic melancholy to the player in a unique way.

The atmosphere and overall feel are very impressive, and reflects the slavic melancholy to the player in a unique way.

On a graphical side, the game is very pretty, like was the first game. I haven't measured framerates, but it feels like it runs a bit smoother than the 2033. I have an AMD video card, and the game was given a patch regarding issues with Radeons, and ever since the game has been running well on my rig.

Sound-wise, it's pretty much the same as the first game in the series. I switched character speaking language to russian, just for giving me a better and more authentic immersion of the game world. Music also works well, changing in pace and intensity as the player is in action, and diminishing alike when things cool down. Like before, monsters do make growling noises, which in turn warns the player of their proximity.

My criticism comes mostly from the same things that others have mentioned bad AI at times, (english) voice acting (I prefer the russian), too much hand-holding and scripted situations which make it feel like an interactive film (this gets lesser later in the game). I've also encountered a couple of crashes, but since the game has bees out just a few days at the time of this review, fixes are likely to come in the future.

If you liked Metro 2033, you'll definitely like this, even though this has taken a little more mainstream approach on certain things. The single player took me about 10 hours to complete on medium difficulty on my first play-through, so it isn't that long of a game, but I'm willing to replay it a couple more times, at least for now.

-1 point for console port interface (and controls) on pc.
-2 points for unskippable intro (and ad) that is extra long: do these people know I paid $50 for this?
Apart from that it's fine but nothing special. Not even new weapons compared to 2033.

Great game, great sequel to Metro 2033, although it does not quite live up to it's predecessor, still better then Bioshock Infinite.

If you are into story heavy FPS, get it BUT 1st play Metro 2033 or it will get confusing with references to the past game.

I adore the gloomy atmosphere of the game. Now it's even better and more realistic than in Metro 2033. To me it's the best game I have played ever except Doom 1. And the bonus is as you may find in Internet those real places in Moscow and compare how they look like in our world.

    Combat feels good.
To short, 15 hours to complete on normal.
Intro/game startup way to long, forced, cant skip.

The game told an amazing story, the characters were great, the worlds were stunning, and every single element was crafted with utmost care.

I'd love the next Metro to be more open-world, closer to STALKER (because it's such an amazing series with dynamic gameplay, great sounds, lore, atmosphere etc.). Please, 4A Games! Give us more Metro above-Metro areas to explore and we'll gladly pay for another masterpiece.

Nonetheless, so far, this game is my Game of the Year 2013 and, without any doubts, my FPS of 2013. Thank you for your amazing efforts.

The worst thing about this game is the random which I almost feel dumb for complaining about (they even jiggle!) but it doesn't feel contextualized or necessary. I fqing loved this game, felt a little hollow pit in my stomach when it ended (like with the last LOTR movie). Most of the game is relatively easy on normal mode with some nice frustratingly desperate battles. Just enough to keep me, an un-professional fps'er, having to repeat multiple times but always getting it done eventually. First rate story, first rate voice acting, top-o-the-fqing-line graphics, amazing story (for a video game), and a satisfying conclusion that leaves me anxious to play the next in what I hope is a series. A must play!

In fact, I'm going to play it again a second time now that I know something (no spoilers) that I didn't when I started, just to get the second ending (which I've already seen on youtube) just because I feel I owe it to the little Dark One! So good!

Some of the dialogue monologue (not related to the story line) lasts for a minute or more, each in its own interest, as tells about the hard life in the subway, on the personal experiences and the loss of its residents. Fighting humans requires some stealth, but fighting mutants is just spray and pray. However, even while fighting humans, the AI extremely stupid; they can't see you even if you are right in front of them, they don't know how to flank you in combat (in fact they barely even move at all in combat, once they spot you they more or less just keep firing until either one of you die). The game is pretty short and easy for a game that doesn't have the multiplayer and relies on its single player. I finished the game in around 7 hours, which is around the same amount of time as it takes to finish Call of Duty's single player. On normal difficulty you can run past most enemies, mutants and humans alike, and there is only the occasional boss you must fight (such as the mutant in the catacombs or the one in the swamp, both of which, by the way, are extremely boring to fight and basically bullet sponges). The morality system is also extremely flawed just like in the first game; there is no way to save your game so if by the middle of the game you realize you are not getting enough morality points you are going to have to restart the whole game just to get the good ending. It is also based too much on decisions you make during combat; for example, one of the biggest parts to getting the good ending is not killing anyone on several of the missions. Even if you spare some of the enemies, you will not get any morality bonus. Also, I see no reason why they would let you have the choice of knocking out enemies or killing them with the knife, because they basically have the same effect. The enemies you "knock out" are not going to wake up after a certain period of time. You can even take their gas mask filters away and leave them to die from suffocation after knocking them out and it will still count as sparing them.

The game is also extremely poorly optimized; it lags a lot just like the first game. Bear in mind that BF3 runs smoothly on Ultra settings on my computer, yet Metro lags like hell even on Normal.

Overall, fun but extremely flawed and not something I would play a second time despite it being extremely short (around 7 hours) in length.

The game has great graphics and what it shines the most at is it's world and the created atmosphere; however, once again it is not consistent. Intriguing moments are followed on and on with dull shooting or stealth combat sequences (depending on your style of play). The A.I. in the game is not that bright and by being stealth one can finish the game relatively easy. In addition, Game series like Bioshock are way ahead in the mechanics of gameplay. Furthermore, after playing Metro: Last light for a couple of hours the repetitiveness of gameplay made the game get less and less interesting or engaging. It is by no means a bad game, it's just that there are so many better quality shooters on the market right now at a better price. I shoot out the lights in a room behind 2 guards while they are patrolling and they don't take notice of the noise of the light bulbs breaking, when they turn around when patrolling back and the lights are shot out they don't take notice.

It is way too easy to get a stealth kill. You just wait until there is no light shining directly on you and that is it, just press V while directly behind the soldier. As I said earlier, it doesn't matter how close you are to the soldier; no light shining right on you, you've got yourself a kill. You could be in a big room with 12 soldiers in it, all armed to the teeth. You go to the fusebox, which is easily accessible and turn it off; now most of the lights are gone. Stealth kills galore. All enemies dead without firing off a shot, your knife does the job.

I have passed 4 such rooms, where there are 10+ enemies, but I didn't find a challenge; period. After clearing the first room I restarted the game and selected Normal-Hardcore difficulty (from Normal-Normal) because I wanted a challenge, but I don't find the game more challenging. The only challenging parts are when you are above ground and you have fight to fight some of the dark ones (and other enemies). But these moments are rare.

I give the game 3 points for it's atmosphere, graphics and a good story from what i've seen of it. But I don't feel like completing the game because I have found no difficulty so far. I know I can choose to play guns blazing and then the game could be difficult, but I prefer a Stealth playthrough. That is why I want out of the game and so this is how I am reviewing the game.

I read this game was challenging. Not. I started on easy thinking I'd better get a feel for this thing, but before long I was wondering if I could even die. You can, but even when I switched to hardcore, I was wondering if anything got switched at all. My ammo supplies were nearly always maxed out, the traders carried nothing you couldn't pick up any and everywhere.

I couldn't even figure out what the metro encampment towns were even there for. They served no gameplay function at all. You walk through on virtually a single path and interact with things like a pop-out book, but for nothing.

The npc's are essentially worthless and the story is weak at best (did not read the book). The objectives seem pointless because you never seem to get anywhere and when you do it's another betrayal. You never seem to figure out who or what to kill, not to mention that there is no indication on what weapons are the best to kill what enemies/ damage ratios. I'm completely lost with no hope of redemption on this one. The graphics aren't bad but the dialogue is remedial and abstract, not put together well. I'm not sure why someone bothered to make this game except that someone wrote a book and a lot of people purchased it. Kind of like Harry Potter goes to bombed out Moscow; the only thing is there is no dark wizard and no real story here. Another "Apocolyptic Genecidal FPS" with no real point to make.
If you like running around a wasteland with giant bugs and radioactive "werewolves" shooting everything in sight then you will probably like this game, for me I prefer a little bit of "mindfulness" to a game. Substance is more of what I crave than just blasting away at everything I see. No points for making a point, but then there's no point in that, either. Seriously, people! Dishonored was better than this by far and that game was a smashing disappointment. Can't somebody make a game that is actually good anymore?

So it makes sense that you people pretty much disregard the terrible voice acting, which made anyone passing by my computer laugh. You seem to think that this game was any sort of challenge; the AI both human and mutant were idiotic as well as lacking diversity. Lack of diversity usually makes things tedious, if you didn't notice. Was no one paying attention to the story? Easy, because there wasn't much to pay attention to, not to mention such a rushed, lackluster ending. A lot of the important details are revealed through journals and not in the main dialogue. Did I mention that the dialogue is spoken in the most stereotypical accents imaginable. It is so poorly developed, and essentially any big reveals, twists and developments are inconsequential. And to call this game original is to completely forget a game that was far superior, Fallout.

I simply don't get it. With a game so tedious, uninspired, and lazily written, how could anyone find this entertaining. I finished it out of sheer duty and because I paid for it. I sincerely wish that gamers take their games more seriously and demand more out of their favorite past time, because if they don't, they'll continue to be spoon fed crap like this. Now, I can go back to hibernating until Half-Life 3 comes out.

The accents in the game aren't as heavy compared to the first one. This bothered me and broke some immersion. The control scheme was changed a lot to make it easier for game-pad use. This is a linear corridor shooter not a open world game. The AI are a little dumber so stealth isn't harder to use. The thing is, the AI are a little too dumb. You can be two feet in front of a enemy, if in the shadows, and you won't be seen. I've stealth killed a enemy npc from a top of a train who fell down in front of some more enemy npc's. Not a single one of them looked to the position he fell from. There's no traps, hanging cans, or glass on the ground that can be accidentally triggered to give your position away. Onto the game. First the pros: extremely detailed and beautiful graphics, a must see at 1440p. The sound is well done also, and the weapons are great fun. What mutants and monsters there are are great. Action is awesome as well in some places. The atmosphere of this game is nearly tangible; I haven't been creeped out by a game in a while. It truly feels like the world of Metro 2033 still. The most impressive areas of the game are all surface areas. It really seems like a bleak, dangerous and lost world, overrun by mutants.

Onto the bad. I already mentioned the odious DLC practice, so this part concerns game play. The game is extremely linear, like its predecessor, but seems even more so in LL. Feels like I can't explore at all and the all explorable areas are painfully obvious. Also, in Hardcore or even Ranger Hardcore, the enemy AI is very stupid and boring. If it's somewhat dark in an area full on enemies, you can quite easily sneak right behind them without notice, and if they do notice, they'll convince themselves it was nothing. Or, just silently head shot an entire room of enemies no sweat, no challenge. If you do rouse the enemy, usually intentionally, it is way too easy to lose them. They won't give chase more than a few feet and usually end up running in circles shouting or mindlessly into the wall.

Monsters and mutants are much more fun to fight, but are very, very infrequent. It got very old in the game fighting people most of the time. There is too little of a supernatural feel to this game, something 2033 was far superior at.

Also, I love a good engrossing story in an FPS, but this game is ridiculous in how much agency they take away from the character. It seems like the game takes control of Artyom a lot, in cut scenes, even in the midst of battle. It really decreases the immersion for me, losing control of my character so much.

And the ending is extremely anticlimactic, frustrating, and disappointing. It's clearly intended to do nothing more than suggest a sequel, much like crappy movies and TV shows do.

In conclusion, I'm sorry to say that the Metro franchise has been overtaken and ruined by corporate meddling. It's difficult to know who to blame for this with so many different brands smeared on the box cover. Greedy DLC policies and serial treatment may be becoming the norm for PC games, but I always be critical of such policies as will most hardcore gamers.

Negatives: Just like the first Metro, very linear gameplay. I do understand that they want you to feel like nowhere is safe to stay and you need to keep moving, but Fallout accomplishes this and is still open-world. It was also just a very short game. I felt like I got to the end very quick, maybe 8 real hours of gameplay time if you drag it out. Lastly, I hate that your actions from the first game have ZERO impact on this one. I saved the dark ones in the first game, but you have no option to play the storyline as that outcome in this sequel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I just finished Metro: Last Light and I must say any game that ends with "And that is how your father saved the metro" needs some work. Was it a bad game? No. But it definitely wasn't the best sequel to the highly underrated and unknown Metro 2033. The writing was atrocious, a significant change from the original which had some very beautiful writing and story telling abilities. Yes Metro 2033 was lacking in some fields (graphics mostly) but it rose above that proving once again you don't need great graphics to make an immersive game. Metro: Last Light fails to do that, and it truly is the writing and voice acting that makes the game seem half hearted. Hardly do you feel you are part of the world and at some moments it is laughable how poor the dialect is between two NPC's especially when one of the voice actors can neither pull off a Russian accent nor does it seem like he wants too. And all of that plus the execrable writing makes for a experience you wish you didn't spend 50 dollars on. The story can be corny and not in the good way, and at some points confusing, infuriating and down right boring. Sure they upgraded the game play and graphics (not by much) but it didn't make up for the other problems it carried along with it. All together I would say Metro: Last Light is worth no more than $20. Writing 13/100, Story: 14/100, Game play: 60/100, Graphics: 53/100, Score (Music): 79/100. Seriously, $20 at the most, don't waste your time. Expand

The game is a horror. Sometimes I feel very very terrified. And it has nice game-play. You must plan, search for decision, spare resources. Those bugs and errors I saw are nothing to influence my rate. This is the best game for the last 3 years. "10"

Bad it's impossible to refund this... (if it's possible to call it game at all)

Don't get me wrong, this game is very fun when you can play it. Much more smooth than 2033, but that's exactly it. When you can play it. This game either crashes, the AI's go haywire (Follow-escorts stop moving) OR you get stuck in one spot and have to go back to a checkpoint to finish the chapter. This game is so buggy it's ridiculous. You get 4/10 by me until you can fix this.

I read the critics' reviews, a few of the users' reviews, bought and d/l'd the game, then played it. I must say that while it isn't the worst game I've ever played, it also isn't anything *close* to being great either. I read reviews that used such over-the-top adjectives, like "Astonishing!". Man... it's not astonishing. It's no where in the same league with astonishing. Have you never played a video game before? Jesus Christ. This game is just another linear hack-n-slash (or shoot) with merely a different coat of paint for scenery and backstory. It's the same old sh1t. This has been going on for nearly 2 decades now. It's not worth 50 bucks it's worth 20. We have better technology now, why is everyone doing the same thing and calling it great? Oh, because if you can convince people of that, just long enough for them to click the "buy" button, then you get 50 bucks times how ever many people you duped.

You have no freedom in this game. You can't run off and explore anything. There are locked doors that pop up with icons, that are never meant to be opened (it's not possible to open them). Why did they do that? If I see a sky scraper in the background and I mouse over it, I don't get a non functional travel icon popping up do I??? No I don't.

The "stealth" system is just laughable. Youtube the game and watch some of the walk-thru's. Enemy look right at you, like less that 10 feet away from you, and just keep walking and talking, basically ignoring you. L-A-M-E!

The very little you can explore in the game, you are usually under duress and pressed for time, so you really can't look around or take time to think. Like make strategies on how to fight or wonder about, really, anything. You can't enjoy the little bit that is meant to be enjoyed, in other words. And by duress I mean, you are either actively being hunted or are engaged in combat, or you have a gas mask on with just a few minutes per filter. Wow.. the more I think of it, the lamer I think this game is.

Wait for it to go on sale. Wait until it costs 20 bucks. I have no idea why people are giving it 10's. That's insane. It isn't a horrible game but it is nothing even close to great. I'd rate it a 3 because it costs $50 and is the same cookie cutter recipe of every other game (plus the devs placed the story in tunnels so it's linearity wouldn't be so noticeable but it is very noticeable.) But since I happen to be a so-so fan of post apocalyptic story lines, and this one has a decent coat of paint on it, I give it a 4.)

I have been gaming for over 20 years. This is not worth the high reviews it has been given. It is soulless, restrictive on several levels, and just has that mass-produced feel too it. That blockbuster, appease the masses, generic recipe, let's make a lot of money off these folks feel. It's nothing special. I want to be able to do several special things for $50. If I'm a stealth type, i want to be able to stalk my prey and develop complex methods for the price of $50. Shanty towns and NPC's shouldn't be so lackluster. What a hassle to explore towns. Knock on doors in towns only to be told to go away, or "Dave's not here". Why can't I bust in the door or sneak through a window?

    Sheesh, I've rambled enough.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Such wasted potential.

This game could have been all the things they claim, yet fall so short. Atmospheric? Only if you like tunnel after tunnel, or grey buildings and incredibly linear paths. Immersive? Most of the characters there are just to fill space, the dialog is dull and repetitive. Exploration? Only if seeing the city outside your invisibly walled-off area counts as exploration.

The tired old standbys are still here.
    - Two weapon limit, regardless of size or type.
    - No inventory so you can't even trade the guns you find in for cash.
    - A storyline where you will lose all your gear several times, so don't invest in any upgrades.
    - Stealth mechanics that don't work like stealth should.
    - Guards who have either superhuman senses or Mr. Magoo's perceptive skills.
    - Cutscenes that assume you're a civilian with a glass chin and the reaction time of a sloth.
    - A quest system that can only handle one task at a time (which is fine, because the game is so linear
you only have one task to accomplish at a time) and never tells you if you've progressed in the quest.
    - The 'boss battles' with vulnerable points and specific locational weapons to be used.
    - A morality system forced on you without making any choices for yourself aside from 'kill or spare the
    murderous traitor' scenes.
    - Thousands of stereotypical Nazis (the most generic 'bad guy' faction ever) in post-apocalyptic
Moscow? Are there really subway tunnels that run all that distance from Germany?
    - The worst and most forced sex scene ever digitally rendered.
    - Inclusion of 'player saves the world' consequences because that never gets old.

It's just such a by-the-book, paint by numbers shooter that all the pretty renderings of demolished buildings and subway tunnels get boring quick. Most of the massively positive reviews are people who were either paid to make such comments under sock puppet accounts, or rabid fanboys. Anyone who actually played this game out would have a much, much lower rating for it.

The voice acting is HORRIBLE. There is no emotional development between the characters. Their personalities are shallow and could have had a lot more basis and dimension if more time was spent on them.

The only reason I even bothered to give this game a 3 is due to the graphics which are fair for modern games, not the best, but fair assuming you can even get it to run if you have an ATI video card.

I would not recommend for anyone to buy this game. Total game time is less than nine hours on a single run and you'll be left wishing you had ordered it on a steam sale. I regret pre-ordering it.

The game's story's **** It had pretty much lost my interest after the first hour of playing. It grows increasingly "psychological" and moralizing as the game heads towards a massively underwhelming and lame ending. Couldn't have done worse for a vanilla single player driven product.

I can't say much more about the game since it's DNF, but from the opening cutscene it's obvious that the game is utterly full of itself what with the hackneyed post-apocalyptic plot written by master author bladi bla who wrote some other vanity press trash.

Hours of switching between tunnels, cities, and the surface, being told what to do for who and why, shooting and stabbing. That's pretty much Metro Last Light. The story and characters are also as extremely dumb and childish as in the first game (and I read and liked the original book). For some reason, every other post-nuclear survivor was a WWII reenactor. On a plus side, graphics got significantly improved and is actually very nice to look at. There were 2 things I didnt like at all about this game. This is an amazing world and a great environment. I want to see more of it and while the tunnels are a limiting factor the amount of real estate in the game is very small indeed. Free roam Metro for Metro 3 should be on the requirements list in the same way several other major titles are doing the same thing.

The most important requirement for me though is the field of view. OMG, I hate this low field of view games. Makes me feel very nauseous very quickly. However, despite this I really enjoyed the story if the FOV didnt detract from how good the actual game is quite a lot. Felt a lot like an endurance test concerning the FOV but the detail, characters and story somehow manage to carry it. Was worth buying.

Open world metro with the same depth, darkness, creepiness and willingness to make a game for adults? Now that I would pay a great deal to see.

I was low on ammo in just one level, everywhere else, there's ammo stashed around every corner and in very obvious places. Gas mask filters all over the place. At the end of the game I racked over 40 minutes of gas mask free time.

For a very dark game, the stealth part is fairly lacking you get one shot kills with throwing knives, and can put a silencer on just about anything, even shotguns. Enemies don't camp, don't use night vision, even if it is in the models. So stealth one hit kills are not a problem. When the battle does break out, it's really short, because 90% of the enemies have headlamps. Shoot the headlamp, I think I racked more headshots in this game than in any other game ever. Just aim for the lamp. All together, I enjoyed the dark gritty atmosphere until the supernatural stuff started to pop all over the place. This felt just wrong.

Not everything about Last Light is a step forward.

With Artyom now being hardened ranger rather than some nobody from station at the edge of metro, the tunnels don't really feel as mysterious or dangerous as they used to. The atmosphere is still there when visiting the stations, but the impact it used to make in 2033 is somewhat gone. Since nothing else like 2033 came out since then,

With Artyom now being hardened ranger rather than some nobody from station at the edge of metro, the tunnels don't really feel as mysterious or dangerous as they used to. The atmosphere is still there when visiting the stations, but the impact it used to make in 2033 is somewhat gone. Since nothing else like 2033 came out since then, that isn't really much of a problem.

What certainly is a problem and what I consider the greatest flaw of the game, is how easy the stealth approach is. In 2033 you cold try and go stealth from time to time, but since everyone knew exactly where you are the moment someone hardly glimpsed you, it worked rather as a way to take down a bunch of guys before the shooting started stealth wasn't really a safe option. In Last Light however the stealth is made super-easy to the level where I had about 3 open firefights with human enemies in a whole game. Enemies are near-blind in "darkness", take considerable amount of time to acknowledge your presence in light and are positioned in such way that you can take out almost all of of them without anyone noticing. It just isn't really much fun things should go bad more easier, it should be more challenging to make a silent kill, ways to distract the enemy should be available and necessity for silent removal. Firefights in 2033 were simply more enjoyable than stealth in Last Light. And you can't really go guns blazing when playing on Ranger Hardcore difficulty.

Now, the fact that Ranger Hardcore difficulty is a paid DLC/pre-order bonus didn't bother me much, since 1) I did pre-order, 2) I am a clerk at the games retail store and all copies we have do have the DLC included, which is the case with most of the early "limited" copies of games. What baffles me though is that this technically paid-for DLC is broken. One of its features is the game being HUDless and certain actions don't have reliable feedback outside the HUD, most obviously secondary weapon selection process has to be done with almost no indication that anything is happening. Being able to visually check how much ammo/currency I have or what upgrades does my current gun sport would be helpful too.

Last Light obviously looks great and runs pretty good even on less powerful cards. I have to say though that 2033 graphics felt a bit more... hm.. sharp. Crisp. Last Light sort if loses some detail. I have similiar problem with Crysis games from technical standpoint, the first one seems to look the best to me. Last Light is nontheless one of the best looking games out there and some of the sceneries are just breathtaking and storms on the surface are pure awesome.

Hm.. what else is there to say... combat with mutants got a lot better, although their dead bodies still act like inflated with helium for some reason and slowly float to the ground so it's hard to tell if they are already dead and I don't really get how you can screw this up in a first place. There's a bunch of bossfights, two maps before the first one (I think) there are almost no resources scattered around the place so I ended up going against it with 30 seconds on gasmask and 30 bullets in the gun. Got to reaload older checkpoint and sprint through to save up on ammo and filters.

I know I am rather critical there, I usually am pinpointing mistakes is just that easier, but bear in mind that in this decade there aren't many FPS games on comparable quality level since Metro 2033 (which I do consider a shlightly better game than Last Light if you didn't figure it out by now) only Far Cry 3, Crysis 2, Deus Ex 3 come to mind, as far as I am concerned.

I had been anticipating this game for two whole years. Now that it's come out and I've played it, I can say that I absolutely love this game. About as much as the first one. There are things about it I DON'T like, but it was the same case with the first game (and plenty of other games I've played and own). I don't expect any game to be flawless. I don't even consider my most beloved games (Metroid Prime 1, Half Life 2) to be perfect. Last Light has flaws and shortcomings speckled about an otherwise amazing experience. It's like biting in to a delicious-looking cookie only to find out that it had nuts in it, and you don't like nuts. The cookie still tastes really good, but the nuts in it give it that weird "nut" consistency that you hate. But in the end you still eat it because it's not enough to ruin it entirely. Anyway, visually speaking, the game looks fantastic. It's not a vast improvement over 2033, but 2033 already looked damn good. Everything just looks more polished overall. I don't understand some of the negative reviews that complain about unpolished visuals. Nothing about the visuals looks even remotely unpolished. As far as gameplay goes, this is where things get a little inconsistent. The thing is, 2033 was practically the same. Stealth is, for me, a huge factor. I loved the stealth in 2033, but it was really freaking difficult to tell if an enemy would detect you or not. You had the light indicator on your wrist watch, but it wasn't reliable. In Last Light, you have the same light indicator, but it's actually reliable. If the light on your watch isn't shining, you're invisible. They also added knife executions, which is damn cool, but that and throwing knives are literally the only two methods of disposal while in stealth. If you try and shoot a bad guy in the head with a silenced weapon, you have a pretty good chance of alerting another bad guy, followed by the entire room full of bad guys. At that point you might as well just open fire and kill everyone. One thing they did right that a lot of developers don't do is make the AI's behaviors rather fair. Aside from the finicky detection-alert behavior, NPCs don't "cheat" to create a fake and unfair challenge. Something I can appreciate. And as far as gunplay goes, the guns are simply awesome, just like in 2033. AI during heavy combat isn't the smartest, but it isn't god awful. I could think of games with worse AI. Was still expecting a little better from 4A. The game's strongest points in my opinion are the phenomenal atmosphere and the unique story. 2033 had some strange, trippy elements to it, but Last Light really expands on that and sets the world in motion. The dead city has a very unique look to it now. In general, the art direction has really improved and is more stylized. All it needs is a bit of polish on gameplay and it'll be near perfect. The narrative isn't super strong, and voice acting can be downright awful at times (adults trying to voice act for toddler characters just DOES NOT WORK). I really didn't appreciate how companions constantly tell you what to do. Pull that lever, climb up here, open that door. It makes sense for some things, but generally speaking, players want to progress freely without being commanded around by AI. I was really disappointed to discover that Ranger mode was a pre-order DLC and you had to purchase it separately if you bought the standard edition. 2033 was updated with Ranger mode and two new weapons some months after it launched; for free. No DLC crap. I feel like I really want to blame Deep Silver for this one. It was the one thing I was afraid of when I found out they bought the IP from THQ. We were fortunate enough for the game to be mostly finished prior to the IP being sold, so Deep Silver didn't interfere much in its core development. THANK GOD. Regardless, Ranger mode had no business being a DLC. It should have been part of the core game, free of charge. Not only is it a feature not suitable to be sold as a separate DLC, but it was ALREADY PART OF THE GAME. It's just unsavory of a company to take content hat already exists in the game and exclude it as a DLC just so they can nickle and dime their customers. Just because some customers are willing to blindly pay extra doesn't mean you should actually charge them accordingly. Overall, this game deserves a 7 in my books. I don't consider the DLC shenanigans as a detriment to its quality, because that's just corporate stuff that shouldn't affect the gamer's experience in the end. If 4A starts focusing on AI, game mechanics, and voice casting, then I feel like they can really make a truly superb game. Last Light is certainly a step in the right direction, but it's forgetting a few of its roots while not trying hard enough to move forward in a few areas. Expand

I bought the Redux bundle of this title with 2033 discounted on Steam, because the reviews are very good & I thought it looked liked the Fallout series. However, after 2 hours of game play I still can't figure out what I'm supposed to do.

The character controls keep turning on & off (sometimes the character can no longer jump or run, or access weapons.) Sometimes the character moves of it's own accord as all controls functions are disconnected from the player. Sometimes weapons are changed for no apparent reason.

I feel like I'm involved in a walkthrough, with occasional partial control of a character. There is zero option for thinking in this game. The environment is controlled so one cannot explore or move around freely. I really have little idea what this game is about. There's so little interaction between myself & the character I have partial control over that I cannot remotely get immersed. There is occasional action which is usually gunfire, but I just end up randomly shooting anything in site that moves since I don't know what I'm supposed to be achieving, & cannot tell what is or is not an enemy.

I think the game is over-priced, since it's only partially a game. It's mostly a kind of interactive movie. I am disappointed that I paid £16.99 for this & 2033, & that at half price. After 2 hours of trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do, I've resigned to the fact that I'll have to be told by a voice all the way through the game what I have to do all of the time. This is very childish. So utterly bored I won't even bother with trying 2033. A total waste of money.

    The bad
-Considering its literary roots the story and dialogue were rather bland.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game and look forward to giving it another spin once I've updated my gaming rig to meld my eyes.

These are some of the words I'd use to describe Metro: Last Light. However, none of those words necessarily mean you're going to have a particularly bad or boring experience, if done correctly which these developers have clearly done. This is a notable improvement on the first game, with more satisfying gun-combat, and an incredibly well-presented murky world, that in my opinion is not far off the attention to detail you see in something like Bioshock Infinite. The story arc was a bit tough for me to follow, being that I never finished the first game, but still you don't need to worry as Artyom narrates the basics through the loading screens and there are notes you can access to catch up. Add that to a rich amount of NPC conversations you can eavesdrop on, and there's certainly more to this shooter than just shooting at monsters. Actually, that's one of the areas that I wasn't satisfied with. The monsters you fight are far less fun that when stealthily trying to take out guards or goons. Mostly, the monsters just charge you very quickly, you fire some shotgun rounds and they're dead. The only other thing to raise issue with, is the major lack of freedom there is to either make any kind of meaningful decisions, or to move about. It's literally like being on a beautifully-crafted fairground ride, more so than other games in this genre. Had the player been given slightly more freedom to explore or do things off the beaten track then this game could have been a 9+. Still, I heartily recommend checking out this game that is if you like your action served onrails. Expand

I must say, this game would have easily been one of my favorites if it wasn't for the framerate drop bug.
I've got a great system (Bioshock on Ultra? No problemo!) and many of the levels are simply splendid in this game. The game-play was great to. What rubs me wrong is that I dropped $50 on a game that has a graphical glitch that many other people experienced with Radeon cards. Some

What rubs me wrong is that I dropped $50 on a game that has a graphical glitch that many other people experienced with Radeon cards. Some levels are just simply un-playable 2 frames per second or so. If they patch this issue, I'll re-do my review. Until then, I want my money back.

From its slicker, sexier UI for everything from your watch to the weaponry menu, to the improved, less punishing and intense combat/stealth elements, and to its outstanding visual and audio presentation that is also well-optimized for PC, Last Light is everything Metro 2033 should have been and better. With a lengthy plot that's exciting and well-presented from start to finish coupled with its superb gameplay mechanics, Metro: Last Light is 2013's first official contender for FPS of the year. If you had your quarrels with Metro 2033 like me, you'll fall in love with this sequel. An outstanding adventure shooter with class. Expand

I really love this game. Post apocalyptic FPS game. The graphics and gameplay are great just like Metro 2033. I'm just wondering why they changed the voice actor from 2033. Overall this is really a good game and I recommend it.

This is not a bad game, but i do not think this is more than mediocre game. This game got several issues like dump AI, some pretty bad bugs and i did not liked the story.+ DLC difficulty mode is not acceptable. Metro 2033 was a bit better game in mine opinion.

Metro Last Light improves on several of the originals shortcomings but also has a few of its own. Mainly the artificial intelligence needs lots of work otherwise Metro Last Light with its hybrid of quality action and engaging storytelling would maybe have been one of the best games of the year.

I do not recommend this to arachnophobiacs and story-lovers. Nonetheless, the game's atmosphere is so thick you are going to be just blown away. Furthermore, the game has outstanding battles. [Issue#231]
