    I love the Metro series, from this game Metro 2033, to its sister sequel Metro Last Light from 4A Games, focuses on the horror above the Metro and Artyom. The game was good, but was a little put off when the people with you always do the stuff for you and you just watch. Also the enemy AI was a bit dumb and too clever in the Stealth sections, when you hit off a light and it makes a noise,I love the Metro series, from this game Metro 2033, to its sister sequel Metro Last Light from 4A Games, focuses on the horror above the Metro and Artyom. The game was good, but was a little put off when the people with you always do the stuff for you and you just watch. Also the enemy AI was a bit dumb and too clever in the Stealth sections, when you hit off a light and it makes a noise, the enemy AI will know exactly where you are hiding which kinda put me off. And the Ranger Mode, is a true survival game, with no HUD, limited ammo and many more features taken away from you, it is truly a game worth getting!… Expand

    One of the first Single player games I found super enjoyable, the "upkeep" sort of mechanics were not too obtrusive and created an edge of urgency. This compounded with the lack of ammunition really made this game standout to me. Sad to say the new one just did not feel the same.

Especially since some of the lines and stations are abandoned and overrun by the horrors of the dark.     Metro 2033 is a superb post-apocalyptic shooter, simply put. The world of the Moscow Metro subway lines gives a feeling of familiarity and foreboding at the same time. Especially since some of the lines and stations are abandoned and overrun by the horrors of the dark.

    While the game is linear, the atmosphere makes it so it's still a fresh experience after each mission.

    The graphics are, even in 2014's standards, absolutely breathtaking. And even today, this game makes your PC work HARD to run it at a good framerate with all the eye candy turned on. My gaming laptop is capable of running it on maximum, but I have to compromise on the advanced depth of field and AA to prevent it from running extremely hot.

    In short, if you plan on getting this game and you have a computer that's not up to par, you may not have a very good experience, unless you play the game on low settings. But even then, on low settings, the game looks better than many of today's titles.

    if you're afraid that this will just be a "techdemo" shooter, rest assured in the fact that the game delivers a very satisfying challenge even in the normal difficulty setting. It's quite brutal on the "Ranger" settings as well, as every enemy presents a true obstacle to your progress, and ammo is VERY scarce.

    I love post-apocalyptic fiction, which might explain why this review may seem a *little* biased.

    In general though, this is a superb game that's well worth experiencing for yourself. Just make sure you have a good computer :)    … Expand

    Easily one of the best games of the year. HORRIBLY under-rated! A 58 from 1UP? Because of some minor issues..... This game is the most atmospheric and immersive shooter I have ever played. Maybe the most atmospheric game, period. This is like another Bioshock or actually more like Half-Life 2 to me, I could see myself playing through this game multiple times.

    Love and Hate would be best summary to describe this game.

    While the graphics were very advanced for the release date, the story felt very excellent and unnerving at times, until you got deeper in the game and realized that when you got near the end you didn't have enough bullets or health to reach the next check point, which was very frustrating and massive mistake from the developer.     Metro 2033 is hands down one of my all times favorite FPS game of all time and not only that but one of my favorite games of all times.

    The level design and the atmosphere are incredible. Interesting story with cool main character (Artyom) and its an amazing surviving horror game.

    Leave childish games like COD and Fallout 4 FarCry 3 4 and go play this a real mans game!

    It's was a good experience ,,, am not very high on FPS games , and in that regard the games weapons are similar to any FPS game out there ,,, I thought the game story wasn't that interesting , the plot , voice acting , and characters were very average and generic at best ,, but i somewhat enjoyed the themes of post nuclear Russia ,, reminds me a lot of Fallout 3 ,,,, The game shinesIt's was a good experience ,,, am not very high on FPS games , and in that regard the games weapons are similar to any FPS game out there ,,, I thought the game story wasn't that interesting , the plot , voice acting , and characters were very average and generic at best ,, but i somewhat enjoyed the themes of post nuclear Russia ,, reminds me a lot of Fallout 3 ,,,, The game shines greatly on it's environment and atmosphere of post-apocalyptic survival horror , very well done in graphics and lighting ,,, i'll say it's not a great game , nor it's a bad game ,,, many things about it will forget in a month or so ,,, it's a good game to fill your time with if you don't have better games to play… Expand

    I just played this in 2021 and loved it. The story is interesting and keeps you going along and the guns feel real and weighty. I will say however that playing on PC with a controller was hard as the secondary weapons weren't mapped to the control, a small criticism but it annoyed me to no end.
    The visuals are great, the 5.1 sound perfectly executed. I'll definitely play the sequel.

    One thing though; is the moral points system which is really frustrating. The ending could've been decided at the actual end of the game, when shooting (or not shooting) the Dark One - not through a secret moral points system.    … Expand

    Finally finished this game (actually played after Last Light) What can I say? Well, it is worse than the sequel for sure. Atmosphere: amazing Lore and the world:very good gunplay:great But I did not like the ending and all missions leading to the ending (i.e. last 3 missions). And not always the good kind of difficulty either.     Great game (so long I didnt played it) I remember I gived up due to dificultie but now playing more carefully it was a great experience. Upon Im not very keen in politics I enjoyed much and Im sure I will play the next of the metro series. Thank you very much for makeing these awsome games.

    I really wish that Metro 2033 took a lot of the focus on sub-par gunplay and put it into something like how the apocalypse affected people and the spooky monsters that were created by it.

    From the single player point of view the game has a fantastic story, it as fantastic graphics (for the time) and very nice shadow and light effects.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. metro 2033 and the series as a whole shares a lot of similarities with the witcher franchise , both are novels written in a non english language, both received video game adaptations by passionate studios and with each new game they improved with a consistent increase in quality having the 3rd game being considered the best in each respective series but where the witcher is a rpg metro is a first person shooter.

    Story: the story may have originated from a novel but the story was revised for the game by the actual author himself meaning that its has consistency , Artyom is a man who just turned 20 growing up in the metro tunnels of post apocalyptic russia about to venture out of his small dank deep underground metro station. beyond threats of war between the reds and the nazis that have taken up arms to take over the metro , the mutant animals that think you are food there is one major threat to humanity , the dark ones mutated humans that gained telekinesis thanks to the radiation. the dark ones are humanity's greatest threat as even being in a dark ones presence can cause hallucinations , death or even worst , i don't think i can talk about the story without the ending because my experience felt more like the end of the book , artyom manages to fight his way to the top of a tower setting up a laser missile guidance system blowing up the main dark one city , and as the missiles flew i thought about how every dark one i personally encountered tried to help me , but every other person seems to die from them , destroying them all was the only option for humanity but after a nuclear war can humanity be trusted ? are the dark ones a metaphor for aliens ?

    World building: that moral dilemma is baked into the game , at first i would shoot mutants on sight this always got me in sticky situations until i learned the creatures behaviours , when they attack , who attacks when they see me , what can i walk on past ect ect i had to learn about the world to survive on my own witch is something only the witcher 3 has done for me (surprise surprise) and this survival puts an extra layer on the games morality , as we all do amoral things in the name of survival . the world it self is dank and creepy and disgusting but when you make it to pollis station it feels huge and like a big city to artyom as everything and place he has seen is cobweb infested tunnels littered with rotting corpses , vent systems again with cobwebs, the highly irradiated surface where every creature is trying to kill you. nazis and communists exist with their own ideologies and motivations and actions , artyom's world is a violent nasty world that asks you to do the worst things you could do just to live.
    World building: 8.5/10

    Graphics: this is a decent looking game , sure its not perfect and games have looked better before but the atmosphere and world design really make up for any graphical infidelity. character designs are a little wonky but most wear cool looking armor so it's barely noticeable outside of cut scenes. my biggest problem with the graphics is how muted the colour palette is but given the games setting again it can be overlooked . my point is the graphics are just ok technically but the art is on full display and that saves this game from looking like crap

    Gameplay: here is where i am going to unload all my gripes as 90% of them are gameplay related , the checkpoint system is wack , i played on hardcore mode which itself was tough and i did like but when you get to the turret section with its awful controls where you need pinpoint accuracy only for me to make it out by the skin of my teeth to run into a tank that because i was low health kills me i tried shooting the tank round that didn't work , i tried shooting the tank itself but it always killed me , i looked up a walk through and found out that you are actually supposed to survive the tank shooting at you but because i was stuck on a bad checkpoint i had to restart the level i already died on no less than 40 times , on normal difficulty it was a joke and way to easy . again at the end i ran out of filters but i couldn't find any more even though i looked , there was none in my vicinity , so again i had to restart the level because every time i loaded my save artyom immediately started suffocating. the shooting is so off i would swear id killed something only for it to kill me as i turn to kill something else and yeah it's frustrating to play. and the stealth sucks and it is way to linear plays more like a horror game witch given the setting is ok

    Sound design: its good , voice acting feels authentic , music is intense and changes to what is happening (mostly) having cricendos when you are about to be spotted during stealth , not much i can say as im running out of characters for this review

    The game is very atmospheric, I went through it immediately after the release, in a row twice, because I really liked it. One of the best shooters I've ever played. The game also has two finals, the receipt of which depends on your actions.

    Although I got this game for free it was an amazing experience, the atmosphere, the environments and the characters you meet were all great. I recently purchased the sequel and can't wait to play that. This game is a must try!

    I fel in love with this game. Maybe its because of the russian metro horro atmosphere or the novel but this game is such a great linear experience. I may be overrating this game but I cant help it. It has flaws of course like the stealth and the combat is a little wonky and not enough resources which tries to be realistic but feels retarded and some boss fights are eeh . Not so long ago, this game was handed out for free on the incentive and I decided to take it for myself. Now the time has come and I decided to spontaneously download it and start going through. The plot is not bad, this is not a stupid straightforward story about post-apocalypse and the extermination of monsters in droves. I loved the spiritual and mystical story of this game. As for the gameplay, it didn't quite work for me. Firstly, I did not like the lack of prompts in some missions, because of this I had to walk around the rooms pointlessly in search of something unknown. It's the same with the doors in some missions ... For example, in the library. Not the slightest hint that you need to break this or that in order for the door to open. Yes, it's kind of a sandbox and puzzle, but I personally don't like that. I like to follow the narration and adventure of ch. hero and not thinking how to find a way out, open the door and everything like that (in general, as you like).Everything else seems to be not bad, although in some places stealth did not go too much for me. The plot, as I repeated myself, sympathized with me both then 8-9 years ago, and now. The player has 2 types of endings: alternative and canon (this is certainly very cool).

    Bottom line: for those who like corridor shooters with horror elements, definitely purchase and play.    … Expand

Todos los apartados están muy cuidados, y en 2010 las cotas de calidad eran rebosantes, con unos gráficos bastante espectaculares. La trama junto con el universo oscuro que nos muestran es el punto fuerte. La gestión de la poca munición y los mounstros nos mantendrán en tensión y con ganas de llegar al final y descubrir todo lo que está ocurriendo.     A highly immersive 'horror' game with tense and claustrophobic gameplay. I do not play tons of games like this, however Metro pulled me in with its atmosphere. Initally the game feels a little slow, but really builds up as it draws you in. I played the first 2 games back to back which I would highly recommend.

If you listen to the conversations and spare the lifes of your enemies by sneaking past them you are playing the game as it is meant to.     The atmosphere of the subway is very well given. People trying to survive there. Various groups and wars between them. We are trying to reach our goal in this chaos. The story is not bad, it is interesting. Mysterious. Conflict dynamics are fun. Ambiance is awesome. The characters we fight shoulder to shoulder are good. A.I. we can say bad. Some enemy designs are bad (slimes). Overall a good game.

    Story is really interesting. Nuclear bombs dropped on Moscow and people started to live on metro. Ambience, locations really pulls you in the game. You feel the people in metro. You feel for them, you try to understand and help them, you feel the game. That's right you don't play this, game plays you.

    You see other stations in loading screens. I really wish we could visit every single one of them. Hope they do this in next metro games.

    As for Artyom, character we play as doesn't talk during gameplay but only in cutscenes. Which is interesting choice. He is not your standard overpowered fps character. He's just a normal character who try to survive.

    Unlike other fps's this game is slow. Which makes you immersed in atmosphere. There's minimal hud which I like. I don't want my screen to be filled with icons. Stealth is good and generally works. Gunplay is great and so as sounds.

    There is this thing called moral system or something and it's really annoying. This system affect the endings you get. You knock down people instead of killing them, listen to people, explore locations and avoid combat and you get good ending. Sounds good on paper but really bad on execution. First of all you don't know how much affected your moral is. You get a sound when you do good thing but not with bad thing. With one mistake you get the bad ending. It's not implemented properly.

    But other than that I can't think of a bad thing. This game is masterpiece, one of the most atmospheric game I have ever played.    … Expand

    Metro 2033 - классная игора, но со своими недостатками, например:
    - стелс ( скорее всего это из-за того, что игра использует движок X-Ray ) - он тут просто плохой из-за игру многие забрасывают, но он тут есть;
    - модиф. к оружию - оно не модифицирует оружие, а только его портит; - оружие - оно со своими недостатками; Но я должен сказать про плюсы: - сюжет - он один из хороших на    Metro 2033 - классная игора, но со своими недостатками, например:

    love this game. I came here after playing Exodus and i honestly thought this was gonna be worse, but i was proven inccorect :). This is awesome.
