    Now here is a really adequate story, not only one of the best love story lines in the game industry as a whole, but also better graphics and gameplay. 10/10

    The sequel is an excellent produce that improves over the original game by eliminating the most frustrating parts from the dreaming sequences. A little masterpiece with a great soundtrack by Poets of the Fall.

    A very good game actually, pretty good graphics and not that bad storyline. Even though the whole game is about shooting people, you dont really get bored of it, because of the amazing ragdoll, people never die the same way. If you in addition, after completing the game, install a mod or two, you will get lots of fun. I never really got tired of the game.

    The game itself was nice surprise. I understand that making the game longer would take muuuch time but this was something unbelievable! I beat the whole game in 6 hours :( Also drop the nightmares away and you'll have the game of the year!

    Excellent Game. Just finished it a few mins ago and I don't think I have been this satisfied with a game in a long time. I understand that some people want less cutscenes and more action but I felt that the story was solid and was brought out through the cutscenes. The game does feel a little short but it took me approx 20 hours to finish which isn't bad. I don't think Excellent Game.     Great game, runs very smooth, awesome physics model and visual effects. First day into the story but I had already finished the first one so this is an improvment. Looks to be a solid title all around. Highly recomended.

    Max Payne 2 is a gorgeous game, to be sure. The environments are mostly "destructible", and somewhat interactive. Bullet time has been reworked, as have some of Max's moves. Gone is the much derided "Poopy-diaper sneer" that he wore in the first game. Characters have detailed facial structure, mouths moving in accordance to spoken words. "Rag doll" physics seem to be a standard Max Payne 2 is a gorgeous game, to be sure. The environments are mostly "destructible", and somewhat interactive. "Rag doll" physics seem to be a standard feature in most games recently, and the feature is used here to good effect, the bodies having the right weight and characteristics. Still used is the trade comic-book plot frames, which defined the original game. This has been supplemented with some unbelieveably luscious cut-scenes. Though heavy on story and plot, cut-scenes offer a bit of rest from the frantic action. Truly the only major thing I have to grouse about is the length of the gameplay. Similar to the first game, you can finish the entire game in about 10 hours total. (I think the first game took me 8 hours.) I'd like to have seen more destruction, and a visible area damage system for bodies, similar to Soldier of Fortune II. Max Payne 2 is certainly an improvement over the first game, but not ground-breaking, by any means. The formula worked well on the first game, and I'm sure that Remedy Entertainment kept that in mind, while infusing Max Payne 2 with more gaming goodness. … Expand

    Basically its more of the same, the developers have taken an "if its not broke, dont fix it" aproach. Its everything a sequel should be. It looks better, more interaction, quicker plus a new implamented physics engine (that works suprisingly well). Basically if you liked the first you will love this (albiet a little short - 4hrs +)

    This is one of the best games I ever seen. There are so many features, but something I would like to add, is the fact of the clips stay in the floor, the bullet marks and blood stains too. For the entire level. Holy ... and it doesn't lag the pc with that. Also, if you like plot/storyline you'll get enthrilled with this game. The story is by far one of the best I ever seen too.

    Its probably the most depressing game i`ve ever played. the story is pretty fantastic, and the gameplay is vastly improved from the original. it was, on the other hand, about 2-3 hours shorter then the first one.

    Max Payne 2 is the game that defines 'Game Noir' in my mind. The story is deep, dark and compelling. The character development is strong, and the gameplay is so much fun.

    Despite the super short campaign, "Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne" is very enjoyable due to its realistic physics, badass bullet-time, and a pulp fiction-al dark storyline.

    In my opinion, the best game in the series. Despite it becoming a little stale towards the end, this feel s like a great sequel to one of the PC's most iconic third-person shooters ever.

Max Payne 1 has the stronger story by far but the gameplay and atmosphere still rocks here. Gameplay feels quite different from MP1 and should therefore be played differently. MP1 was more tactical and calculated whilst MP2 is constant insanity.     The second chapter of one of the most epic trilogies in the entire history of videogames and a female character to die for. The movie was bad but it didn't kill the franchise and every kiddo who just watched the movie without playing this game should immediately... REMEDY to this. Got it? Remedy.

    The newest thing about the game is the change in the face of Max Payne.Deadsure this new look is better.The new holds all the sorrow,and fatigue which the years gifted to him.And besides Max Payne,Mona Sax's join gives game a new level.We can into the thoughts of her by the dialogs,the oil-printed screens between chapters.And in some chapters we are playing Mona Sax character besides Max Payne.That's another reason that when everything comes up to a conclusion in the end,we feel the loss,the pain in our hearts better.We exactly live the feelings these two characters live.

    The screenplay is more complicated.The bad men,the conspiracies,the things tricky.We don't kill the men just because game wants,we don't go with the flow;we are aware all the going on.This is the success of the screenplay and the videos between the chapters to keep us in the same direction as the game is on the wheel.Also in some chapters we play in the events which happened during the chapter we played before.These are some of the developments about the cinematic and storytelling side of the second game.

    There are two things I'd like to tell.First one;this one is not just a game to continue the series.It is connected with the first game both in story and character side.And it feels like it will go on.The second thing is the song playing in the end:Late Goodbye by Poets Of The Fall.Only the ones who play this game can understand how it makes you feel.

In addition I didnt like how weak Max was behaving related to Mona: always thinking about her... like a teenie. Not reliable either.

    For being a sequel it is a great improvement in almost all areas of the game but the only downside of this game was the length of the game. But this game is 2-3 years newer than the first game so it was expected. But what most people fail to do when they make a sequel is the story but the story was still very good so I am happy they actually considered to improve almost everything instead of just trying to improve some mechanics and call it a sequel. Remedy did a great job and Max payne deserves the praise it gets, being the most enjoyable action type shooter. Though there is a problem if it is bought on steam because the game can't run from steam because it is required to have a specific video card driver or a sound driver to launch it from steam, and because of this it is better to buy the game and install it outside Steam. I was looking forward to replay this game often and quick install it on Steam when I wanted but unfortunatley I can't because for some reason Amd can't make drivers that is compatible with older games like Max Payne.… Expand

The shooting feels excellent and cinematic in a way that many modern games still fail to replicate, It's still as fundamentally simple as the previous one, involving lots of bad guys, guns, ammo, and painkillers, but it has aSlicker and smoother than the first game, it polishes off a lot of the rough edges while telling a new and equally brutal story just as dramatic as the previous one. The shooting feels excellent and cinematic in a way that many modern games still fail to replicate, It's still as fundamentally simple as the previous one, involving lots of bad guys, guns, ammo, and painkillers, but it has a little more heart and a little less frustration than before. Max is as appealing of a haunted protagonist as ever, and somehow even more badass in this one, and the overall story is pulpy, dramatic deliciousness for someone who eats up this kind of style.

    + Max Payne returns. This is a direct sequel to the first game, and picks up right after the first one left off. Remedy perfectly duplicates the earlier game’s dark, broody atmosphere. The comic panels (instead of cut-scenes) are back.
    + Old characters return. Bravura, Mona Sax, Vlad, Vinnie. But they don’t all return in ways you might expect.
    + Story. While Max had his revenge in the first game, he is still not at peace with himself. And falling for a femme fatale leads to massive feelings of guilt and betrayal towards his dead loved ones. The nuts-and-bolts of the story delve into the workings of the “Inner Circle.” While this secret society was and is one of the hokier aspects of the first two Max Payne games, it remains an effective backdrop for Max’s tale of depressed angst.
    + Swapping narrative. I loved the simultaneous story-telling, and playing as Mona Sax for a few levels.
    + Slow-motion Shoot-dodge is back.
    + Secondary weapons. Allows for melee or the throwing of grenades or molotovs without switching weapons (unlike the first Max Payne game).
    + Atmosphere and visuals. While only running DirectX 8, light and shadow play to great effect. Texture quality is greatly improved from the first game as well. Though obviously old by now, the release date of 2003 is still a surprise, as Max Payne 2 looks much better than that.

    +/- Enemies have much better aim than in the first game. Health is plentiful, though.

    - Shotguns are much less powerful.
    - Install the game to your C drive (or wherever your operating system is located) and run in Windows 95 compatibility mode or the game may not start.
    - 16:9 aspect ratio resolutions are only available by modding a config file. Additional modification is necessary to alter the HUD so it isn’t distorted / stretched at 16:9 resolutions. If your modding is successful, Max Payne 2 looks and plays great at 1080p and 60fps.
    - Short. Speed-runs can beat the game in less than an hour (there is a timed mode, call “New York Minute”). More casual playthroughs will rarely take more than 6 hours, even if you stop to watch all the TV shows.

    Max Payne 2 is one of my favorites, and the game wears its age well. Sad that gaming reached such a high point so early in its history. It’s one of those games that needs a little tweaking to work properly on modern systems, but I don’t want an official remastered edition because I’m worried something would be altered in the process. Few games get as close to perfection as Max Payne 2.    … Expand

The gameplay isn't as awkward as before thanks to improved hitboxes and bullet trajectories, a sense of realism surrounds the game because of physics simulations like ragdoll effects, and the identity of the series has been given a new facelift thanks to higher production values. Overall, an excellent action game that's worthy of the Max Payne name and fans will be happy with this installment. However, if you're new to the series or have only played the Rockstar-made entry, you won't get as much from this game and everything will just look like a confusing mess. Max Payne 2 is a story-centric game and it builds on what fans and players of the first game already knows. This time around, the true intentions of the first game's major players are shown and reveals a new side to them, making them more believable rather than being a one-sided cliche of a character. The story focuses on Max after the events of the first title as he reflects on his past choices and how he copes up with the decisions that he's made. I highly suggest that new players play the first game or watch a recap video because without knowledge of the characters' background and the events leading up to this game, the story becomes much less impactful and you won't get much out of it because of its focus on the cast rather than plot.

    Improvements that I've noticed:
    1. Better voice actors than the first game and their performances are consistent except for some select moments.
    2. The new soundtrack is great, especially "Late Goodbye" by Poets of The Fall which is featured prominently in the game.
    3. Still linear but bigger levels with the inclusion of optional explorable rooms make it seem less so.
    4. Very serious story with comedic undertones. Sam Lake and Remedy somehow managed to make the virtual enemies that you're killing appear human in nature rather than just fodder that blocks your way. They laugh, they share jokes and share experiences with their friends, they also play the piano real good - very small details delivered in a very funny way but it still makes a lot of difference for the personal story that they're presenting to the player.

    Remedy's classic sequel was fantastic on a high end PC. While not as fresh as the original "Max Payne", it featured improved gameplay, superior graphics and a better story. Fans of third-person shooters, film noir and action movies should enjoy it. I would rate it with a 9.1 out of 10.

    The first part was with incredibly strong and enveloping atmosphere, interesting and intriguing story. Had Interesting mechanics of focus, that was new for me, and interesting comic-storytelling style with noir music ...it was very-very cool.
    This game is good too and deserves a very good rating, but it doesn't give anything new, just a story. So I decided to give this game 9 instead 10.

    Its a great improvement from the last game and this game is such a gem. The twisted story villain which links it to the first game always keeps you guessing who is the puppet master. The game's graphics is a huge improvement from the last game and the storytelling is as great as the last game. It was the last game in the series that Remedy made before it was taken over by Rockstar.

    Sequel to a masterpiece. The game is very good, but the first one was much stronger in terms of plot.

    It is possible that the main conflict in the plot is no longer as painful as in the first. But still, I was very worried about the fate of Max and his relationship with Mona.

    In terms of gameplay, I can’t say that much has changed, everything is just as good.

Contrary to the first, Max won't go and attack the government head first and blow up every single building he enters. Then, those he first meddled with come back to him and the miraculous survivor struggles again against all odds to find the truth in the dark. But how deep will he have to dig? Some moments are perplexing yet others are very obvious. Everything is not what it seems and Max finds himself caught into dreams that are creepier one after the other. I admit that some dreams with the correct sound devices and a night alone in a basement can give you the creeps. The gameplay itself shows how the characters you fight are but dummies with big guns. What's lame? Well, the fact that you can clear a room by running head first into the pack and with a full bullet-time gauge. I mean this at ANY point at all in the game. What would have been good also would have been the change in weaponry. You often end up seeing the same weapons everywhere. I mean, sure, it's gangsters against highly trained killers, but why do they all fight the same way with the same weapons? Everything seems so chaotic that Max himself looks lost at most points in the game. Finishing the game makes you breathe a little because the last intense moments are quite silly for the most part. This isn't a game to use your brain with. It's a game that works like an action movie and a depressing scenario with lugubrious music to join it. I will say that Max has Mel Gibson looks on some shots. Wonder why Mel won't be playing him in the movie?… Expand

The graphics are dated, but for its time, they were quite an advance, and they also still capture the games atmosphere well. I think after playing Half Life 2 so much, I can almost compare it, although being slightly dumbed down, as things are a bit off scale at times. I think any computer these days will be able to Max :) the graphics, and enjoy the full well done detail. The level design is tight, and some surreal level design for dream sequences or other misc things, were artistically thought out. The action like most 3rd person action games, feels a bit clunky at times, and takes some getting used to. But, still manages to be very enjoyable. The best part is the hardened detective story, and its well told, along with great voice acting on all parts. When an action game that is linear tries to tell a story, it has to do it well.     I've not finished the game yet, and while I AM enjoying it, there are so many cutscenes it's not even funny. I understand that they've got to tell a dense story, but it comes to the point where every time you run into a bad guy, you get a cut scene, and then it opens back up to you staring down the guy's barrel.     A vastly superior game to the already promising original. This game refines in all the right ways, tells a great story and feels great to play. Even by today's standards. It might still be the best implementation of bullet time in a game. It also ditches some of the more clunky aspects of the original - leading to it being more timeless.

    Rockstar again delivers a game with an engaging, deep and complex storyline, all told in a top-notch storytelling. If you played Max Payne, be sure to grab this one. Despite the easier combat than its predecessor, it's still a masterpiece. For a 2011 gamer such as myself, I'm still amazed with what Rockstar did. Just don't watch the movie.

Max is called on to investigate a gunfight at a warehouse owned by Max's old associate Vladimir Lem and discovers the place has been attacked by a group of hitmen called the Cleaners. He encounters Mona Sax, who was thought to be dead by Max. Max heads to a restaurant owned by Lem andStory: Two years past, and Max has been reinstated in his old job as a police detective for the NYPD.     Pros:
    • The comic-book cutscenes make a return and they are even better then in the first game. This is mainly due to Remedy being able to afford real actors this time around so the quality it looks better in return.
    • Max Payne 2 is still a dark game like the original, not as dark this time around, but still quite dark.
    • Characters are still excellent in this game and many characters such as Max, Mona and Vladimir make a return.

    Cons:
    • The story sadly is much weaker compared to the Max Payne 1. As the first game went really deep into the events and actions taken that drove Max to the edge. In 2 it's really just doesn't feel so deep into the character of Max and when it does it's execution comes off begging for more.
    • The twists as well really don't feel all that significant and character motivations don't feel that genuine and more for the sake of continuing the plot.

    Gameplay:

    Pros:
    • Bullet time and shoot dodge have been improved and feels more powerful and easier to control... perhaps too easy. But it's just a blast mowing down enemies in bullet time and feeling like a one man army bad-ass.
    • Using grenades, molotovs and even melee has now been mapped to a key of your choice so you can throw/melee much easier now.
    • New weapons are fun to use and the old returning ones feel great as well.

    Cons:
    • Compared to the original, bullet time physics has gotten crazy. You can now literally shoot enemies in the air in bullet time. It's entertaining don't get me wrong, but for a game like Max Payne it's a bit odd seeing it.
    • The game is only 4/6 hours which is a real let down compared to the first game. You can play the game again on the different "difficulties" and unlock the alternative ending. Unfortunately it will probably be even shorter playing it again.
    • The set piece moments of the game feel more restrictive and less interesting compared to the quick paced gunfights you engage in for most of the game. The escort parts were not that enjoyable to say the least.

    Sound and Music:
    Pros:
    • Voice acting is once again excellent with great dialogue and performances all around.
    • Music has improved from the first game. There is more of it and it sounds less repetitive which was the problem with the first game. I have to say I love the theme in Max Payne 2. That cello really adds such a grim, bleak, depressing, but deep emotional passion to it.
    • Sound effects have improved as well from gunshots, weather, debris falling or fire. It all sounds solid.

    Performance and Visuals:

    Pros:
    •This game looks fantastic for 2003. Improved massively from the first game and character models look really good now with properly animated faces and bodies that look well modeled.
    • In-game cutscenes look a lot better to. Camera angles, animations and audio have really helped them more attractive to watch compared to the few in the first game.
    • The depiction of New York and the environment is still amazing and it's been improved. You can interact with your surroundings as well. I also love to watch the TV shows that mimic what's going on in the game world and references the other ideas Remedy had for Max Payne's name which is a awesome touch.
    • Ran solidly and had no issues getting the steam version running (unlike Max Payne 1).

    Cons:
    • Had an odd flickering texture, but extremely minor problem.

    Verdict: It's hard to decide if Max Payne 1 or 2 is better because they both are great third person shooters. Max Payne 2 certainly has the greater gameplay, graphics and performance was solid. However, it really lacks in the deep story from the original which is such a damn shame. But it;s still a great game and I would rate it slightly higher then Max Payne 1.

    Sound/Music: 9/10

Except it, the game is perfect in every other aspect be it the sound design, plot, gunplay or the maps. All of the missions take place at night and provide you a kind of eerie feeling. I liked it.     I don't remember when I played this version, but after finishing Max Payne I and really enjoying the game, obviously, I would play The Fall of Max Payne. A game that was marked for me, so much that, I finished it twice.

    Я только что завершил игру в этой игре физика просто на высшем уровне, графика стала лучше по сравнению с прошлой частью. Сюжет такой же интересный как в первой части, стрельба так же хороша. Локации стала больше и уделено время деталям, ИИ врагов остался таким же как в прошлой части.     Çıkış yapalı neredeyse 20 yıl geçmesine rağmen hala yaşlanmamış. Günümüzde bile oynanabilir, akıcı ve sürükleyici. Hikayesi, hikaye sunumu, karakterleri, müzikleri ve aksiyonuyla klasik bir oyun.

    Very good game. Incredibly good physics for the time (although they do still hold up today) with the same fun mechanics as the first game. They kept the slow motion effect, and added new weapons, and thankfully removed enemies sitting behind walls with shotguns. The story is decent, but it's enough to keep you playing.
