Jan 9, 2023You can see the growth of InnerspaceVR as a game developer from Fisherman to Maskmaker. Hopefully, with their next project, they will fine-tune their approach and create a game that is both artistically and gameplay-wise, satisfying. If you are patient and OK with playing a slower-paced game, Maskmaker is definitely worth a look.

Dec 24, 2022Maskmaker is a perfect introductory title to virtual reality, able to literate the newbie gamer and entertain the more veteran one in a relaxed manner.
-
Aug 2, 2021Hampered only by some clumsy storytelling and awkward mechanical problems, Maskmaker is an immersive VR experience and an inventive adventure game with enough fun gimmicks to feel like a fresh take on the genre.

Jul 19, 2021Mask maker is a true demonstration of how games can do VR with expert implementation. Every interaction the game provides is built to make the most of VR’s specific advantages while showcasing beautiful environments with a melancholy feeling permeating the quiet world around you. If you have a VR headset connected to Steam, then it is absolutely worth experiencing, even if only to count how many times you say “Woah”.

Edge MagazineMay 20, 2021It's hard not to forgive such contrivances when the mask-making process itself is such a joy. [Issue#359, p.119]
-
May 5, 2021A surprisingly pleasant mystical puzzle adventure with room for improvement and need for fine tuning in terms of mechanics.

Apr 29, 2021When Maskmaker shines, it shines bright to the point I had a beaming smile on my face. It’s just a shame these moments only tend to pop up towards the very end. If you’re looking for a circa five-hour VR adventure with some magical moments, you could do worse. Just don’t expect a groundbreaking VR experience.
-
Apr 27, 2021Thanks to its attractive concept, its pleasant rhythm and its splendid artistic direction, Maskmaker is indeed an undeniable success.
-
Apr 22, 2021Maskmaker feels like it’s going to give you full control over the game, then it takes it away from you and does it for you. The parts it gives you full control over, however, tend to be exceptionally tedious. The crafting system is great when the game wants it to be, and I loved exploring every nook and cranny that the game had to off, but in short, while the game feels like a bedtime story, ultimately it’s just that --- there’s not much lucidity that you’d expect from a VR game, and it feels more like an on-rails experience.

Apr 21, 2021Is a mysterious adventure with really good ideas. There are some aspects that could be polished to make it more engaging, but overall it’s a great choice if you like exploring worlds in VR.
-
Apr 20, 2021Innerspace VR proves once again how a game concept works in VR. It's fun to always find new larvae fragments, because of course you absolutely want to penetrate into large temples of majestic splendor. We give Maskmaker a clear must-play recommendation.

Apr 20, 2021Maskmaker is very much a slow burner which you need to give time to develop past the first three levels, after which you’ll be rewarded with a rich puzzle experience. It took just over four hours to complete, feeling a lot less because the narrative is so engrossing. Much like A Fisherman’s Tale, Maskmaker is mostly a one and done title, there are hidden memory pieces to find if you didn’t manage to the first time around but that’s about it. Some sort of unlockable sandbox mode after the campaign ends to fill the mask makers store with your own designs would’ve been the icing on the cake. Even so, in Maskmaker InnerspaceVR has created a fine puzzle experience.
