There were presentation issues as well as some parts were just not enjoyable. What I will say first though is that I loved the dream sequences and flash backs. The soundtrack during them was fantastic as well as the actress who played Marie being easily the best in the game. The rest of the cast was a mixed bag in terms of quality. The presentation issues I spoke of were a lot of spelling and grammar issues. I can understand that English is not everyone’s first language but still they are an issue. Also had I had an option to turn subtitles off I wouldn’t have even noticed them but no such option exists. Things from “withough” that should have been “without”; “klick” instead of “click”; “coffeine” instead of “caffeine”; and many more. I also wasn’t a fan of the cemetery level as I found it too much of a maze and annoying to navigate. There was also one part where you have to read the newspaper on day 2 and to do so you have to select the newspaper and click on the table. There are two vantage points you can do this but it only works from one of them for some reason.
I played Markus Ritter on Linux. The game never crashed on me. It did have some audio static during some parts. You can manually save whenever you want and there are 4 save slots. Alt-Tab doesn’t work. One thing I found strange was some of the video segments were at 50 FPS but others were at 30.
I liked the concept of Markus Ritter but it just couldn’t come together into an enjoyable game for me. I finished it in 106 minutes and it’s free of charge so the value is fair.
