Excellent game way ahead of its time. Absolutely classic. Isometric RPG with tons of spells combinations.

Isometric strategy game that punches well above its weight in terms of mythology, story, innovative use of spell casting and stock motionIsometric strategy game that punches well above its weight in terms of mythology, story, innovative use of spell casting and stock motion character design.

    1. Mythology - drawing from Celtic, Arthurian and Greek mythology, three distinct campaign settings drive the narrative of Cornelius from apprentice wizard to hero. The cast include such diverse monstrosities such as brownies, redcaps, zombies, manticores, unicorns and, eh, crocodiles?!

    2. Story - I love the mini adventures style, where betrayal and different actions can affect outcomes. Do you blindly fall into a trap or do you attack first? Admittedly the overall story is a little dry (it's not Planescape Torment level, that's for sure) but the set pieces make you almost feel like its a TTRPG.

    3. You have a portmanteau that contains gems and, depending on the gem used - chaos, order or neutral, you can cast different monsters using different ingredients. Think brownies are too weak? Cast a redcap for more mana. It makes creating synergies between your ingredients fun and tactical.

    4. Stock motion has led to some brilliant games. I love its use here.

Really recommend trying this game out if you can get it working; definitely needs to be added to a top 10 forgotten best games list. I never got into the sequel though, as it missed the charm of this version. Hopefully some publisher will one day renew the series...I miss it!
