    Madden came out on MS-DOS in 1988, PC's for the most part are more powerful than this game or any features EA puts in it. what I am getting at is Next gen graphics, star-driven ai and gameday atmospheres. These features were once again left out of the PC version, EA did NOT even change Super Bowl or Pre-game presentations. Add this together with the broken gameplay and countless bugsMadden came out on MS-DOS in 1988, PC's for the most part are more powerful than this game or any features EA puts in it. what I am getting at is Next gen graphics, star-driven ai and gameday atmospheres. These features were once again left out of the PC version, EA did NOT even change Super Bowl or Pre-game presentations. Add this together with the broken gameplay and countless bugs that plague this years version and you get a royal turd. This game is not worth the 60.00 price tag EA puts on it, even with the coach skill tree they added to franchise mode, that mind you actually has no effect on your game play!     I got the EA Play Pro subscription for this and about 6 other games on the service. I started play on the 12th and have 54 hours in.

    The bad: - I get a lockup every 1-2 hours, typically. Since updating my drivers it is a lot closer to 75 minutes. I had 3 games freeze when I won and the game ended. I have had two freezes buying packs. A great many loading challenges and games. I would    I got the EA Play Pro subscription for this and about 6 other games on the service. I started play on the 12th and have 54 hours in.

    The bad:
    - I get a lockup every 1-2 hours, typically. Since updating my drivers it is a lot closer to 75 minutes. I had 3 games freeze when I won and the game ended. I have had two freezes buying packs. A great many loading challenges and games. I would say that I am throwing away 5-8% of my game time every day due to these freezes.

    - The game is very scripted. I will give a couple particularly severe cases.
    --- 4th game of the 4 game solo option. I take the lead and the first half is good but close. The second half everything broke. I threw 6 interceptions in 7 passes. and fumbled the ball away inside the opposing 5-yard line. My reward went 1K coins / 1 gold pack (5K value) to 1K coins and 3 silver packs (1.5K total value).
    --- Today I played a snow game and score the opening touchdown. Playing a normal defense I see a pass go over the middle and both safeties are where the corner backs should be. 75-.yard touchdown and a tie game. I manage to take a 14 point lead with 1:56 to go. The computer only threw one pass during its drive's, between my 2nd and 3rd scores and it was incomplete. This time it throws an almost identical pass with the same result as the earlier touchdown. On the onside kick I set down the controller and the player it is kicked at runs away from the ball. Needless to say I was livid that the cheating is so blatant. One pass later and its a tie game. This time it was 56 yards against a prevent defense and no one was close to the receiver. I did win in overtime as I got the ball first, but this should never have been needed.

    - The animations and results of plays are often completely wrong. I needed 2 yards to hit 75 for a star in a challenge and I got one when it looked like I got at least 3. The next play I get the 200 offense total and the challenge is over. I had to replay it.

    - The ball and players in contact with other players sometimes are not really down.
    --- Example, I had a player get tackled and role over two defenders for an extra 3-4 yards which got a first down on a 3rd or 4th down play.
    --- Where it looks like the player went down is often 2-3 yards off from the actual result.

    - Just plain stupid stuff happens. I had the computer through a ball into the end zone and it gets knocked down by my defender. You then see about 5 people kicking the ball around and trying to pick it up like it was a fumble. Then one of my defenders kicks the ball a few feet into the air right to an opposing receiver which gets a touchdown.

    - Opposing players almost never drop a pass if playing at the two higher difficulties. I had a challenge I played dozens of times as my drop rate was 70-80% as the announces kept saying the receiver dropped the pass.

    - There is a two-pass for touchdown challenge that I threw an interception on the second pass my first 11 attempts. Some of the challenges are so scripted that getting a required sack or getting an interception when the pass is contested is all but guaranteed.

    The good:
    - If you play MUT there are tons of challenges. This is the main reason I got the game. I do play regular seasons though.

    - Lots of play options, although the one's you get presented sometimes are totally wrong for the situation. This causes you to have to find the right type of play by picking the formation or one of the other grouping options for plays. When time is critical it is very noticeable. I want at least one pass play that goes over the middle when inside the 5-yard line and not all outside one's as those are high risk for a pick 6.

    - The Yard can be really fun because it is on odd way to play the game that adds variety.

    Dropped rating from a 3 to a 2 after the following happened in a challenge. Keep in mind this is not a high difficulty and my team probably has a 10-15 rating advantage just about all the way around. Also, this was over many attempts to win the challenge.

    2 passes that were 10-20 yards that beat a 3 safety prevent, in the same game. Every safety was much closer to the line of scrimmage than when they started. Another pass where the receiver shed half my defense after the catch and got a touchdown.
    12 incompletes inside the 5 yard line with almost none anywhere else. This happened in 3 games, 4 passes each, and would have given me 4 stars.
    3 catches in the end zone not getting a touchdown. Twice, the receiver (TE) caught and then ran out from 1-2 yards in. The other time, a WR caught the ball a couple yards in and got popped out by the defense and then tackled.
    Giving up a first down on many 3rd, or 4th, downs with 16+ yards to go.
    WR not blocking during a play. I threw a screen pass and just needed one more block and the receiver 7-8 yards down field is walking back to the line of scrimmage and just lets the defender hit me.    … Expand

    I solely made an account to say how horrible this game is. 4 billion made from this game and they can't even give us the next gen version on PC. Please explain how a company cannot make time for this when they 1.2 billion last year on MUT alone? The game is the exact same copy and paste from Madden 21, and Madden 21 was awful as well. The franchise mode has virtually no updates and you can see beneath the new skin the game is running the old model. They just pasted new colors on top of the old model and called it a day. No physics based engine when football is primarily physics based. The scenarios are few and lackluster, the most interesting being; Eagles signing Colin K and benching Hurts; Khalil Mack retiring during his prime by game 3 from the bears. The exact same celebrations/animations/commentary/cinematography as always. The game play is somehow worse, defenders stand around like deer in head lights, receivers will let balls fly off their heads. WR's will catch the ball mid air to only volleyball it 25 feet down the field for an interception. You can tell all around 5 minutes went into this mode. Forget FOF, go watch a youtube video for 15 minutes of a play through and you will probably have a better experience. Receivers do not populate, auto sets difficulty to rookie, jags will draft you but call you Trevor Lawrence. The cut scenes Resident Evil 1 on the PS1. Nothing you do matters at all, the choices and outcomes are entirely predetermined. The entirety of the game itself is predetermined, the animations, the catch rate, the engine itself is not made for football.     Madden 22 is such an utter disappointment in so many ways. The graphics, if updated, are negligible. The franchise mode interface is exactly the same, except it clearly copy and pasted the UI from NHL 21 and simply changed the text for NFL. Lazy.

    Glitches and bugs galore. I have, several times, had a player get injured and the game lock up and now allow me to substitute another player in or keep the injured player in the game. I have to force "crash" the game with alt+f4. I have had several instances of the game simply closing itself both mid-game or in a menu.

    In franchise mode, I was playing the Buccaneers that week, and the player to watch was Tom Brady. Pretty reasonable. Until I looked at the stats that were highlighted and it was tackles, sacks, and tackles for loss. Tom Brady plays Quarterback and is 45 years old, EA. I don't think he sees many snaps on defense anymore.

    The last point, I suppose, was announced. "Current gen" consoles will not have the "next gen" features of Madden 22. Okay, somewhat reasonable. The Playstation 4 and Xbox One (even the "X" variant) are nowhere near as powerful as the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, I did not assume this would leak into the PC version of the game. My computer is more than twice as powerful as any console available. You're saying it can't handle your "next gen" updates? Squiggly lines for routes and some cutscenes? Really? Okay, so your logic is that not every has a powerful computer. Hardware detection is pretty commonplace in most games. Even simpler, there is a "Settings" menu that already exists in the game. Yes, you put that there. It would seem pretty simple to have a selection asking if you would like to implement the "next gen" elements with a warning that some PCs may not be able to handle it.

    I just find it very hard to believe that one of, if not THE biggest AAA game developer in the world can't put together a team that can functionally assemble a simulation NFL game. You have had the exclusive license since 2006. You have a monopoly on anyone who would want to work on this type of game. Let them do their job, EA. I do not blame the developers, I blame the publisher here. Madden has clearly turned into nothing more than a yearly cash grab for the higher ups at EA.

Well, my PC meets all the system requirements, I have the latest videodriver installed, I never had any problems with the previous Madden entries (19, 20 and 21), and I don't have any problems with other modern games - I play Horizon: Zero Dawn, AC: Origins, AC: Odyssey on Ultra settings, and RDR2 on high settings. So probably my PC should be able to handle Madden 22. But it can't.… Expand

    I have played about 10 hours of this game so far and I can tell you this game is glitchy and so un balanced. It is impossible to play defense. There are glitches everywhere. My game has crashed like 3 times today. Absolutely terrible. You would think EA would know how to make a quality Football game after all of these years, but here we are, time and time again.     This franchise has managed to become worse & worse as time goes on. The features they’ve removed from M18 to now is mind boggling. Why replace physics for awful canned animations? I recall the community begging for physics since about M10 and we rejoiced once we finally got them in M13.

    Then we have game breaking bugs that have yet to be fixed from M19 - M22 on top of all these new ones. So there’s no telling if EA will even fix some of these newer ones since they can’t even figure out all the old ones. This game is in such a tragic state. I just play and buy old Madden games now and say to myself “omg I forget about this figure! Why didn’t they build on this?!?” Older Madden’s do not feel the least bit outdated, and they should.     Thanks for not including PC in the next gen group. Game is terrible either way. But that's what happens when you have no competition. EA ends up getting money for their product be sure they are the only option. So by default, even if they lose a number of sales. They gain sales to make up for it.
    NFL should be ashamed.

    The game has crashed on me around 10 times - almost all of them were in between plays where neither team would be allowed to select a play.     The game has crashed on me around 10 times - almost all of them were in between plays where neither team would be allowed to select a play. You could call a timeout, but nothing would change. Players stand in the huddle for minutes without a prompt for a play to come up. You have to exit the game and lose all the progress on it, meaning you'd sometimes lose 20-30 minutes of progress if you've been playing.

    The menus are constantly glitching visually - with lighting issues, incorrect models, scans not appearing, player photos incorrect or not appearing, flickering menu panels, and much more. Same for glitchy cutscenes and stadium visuals. It just doesn't even look like they're finished coding it. Like this is some alpha version that was released by accident.

    Each mode is incredibly shallow. The game is legitimately almost identical to last year in the modes that I touched. Some shiny new features have been included in franchise, like staff skill trees and focus players during practice, but the mode remains almost completely untouched. All this in a year that EA claimed to put much more focus on franchise to appease the fans, this almost feels like a step backwards. Why are there still no meaningful events as a player in franchise? Even in FOTF, after you get drafted - the mode essentially becomes player franchise. There is nothing engaging to keep you playing this mode, even before you've made it to the super bowl. After winning the super bowl, taking home an MVP or ROTY trophy, and making the pro bowl - there's no indication or celebration of these events. No one even says a word to you, and then you start the preseason again. It just feels empty in every meaningful way.

    Of course, all of these things I mentioned wouldn't be so painful if the gameplay was good. The gameplay is phenomenally bad. You cannot make it through an entire game of madden 22 without a major glitch happening on the field. The player movement for quarterbacks took a huge step back again (just try to run the read option with your QB - you have to wait about 3 full seconds before you can control your player and move him upfield) and the game was extremely slow when I played the MUT challenges. Every single play is scripted - so that when a play happens, RNG decides the animation that the players get, and that outcome is the outcome regardless of what physics should dictate. Interceptions caught through a receiver's body, Tom Brady trucking a 320 lb. defensive lineman, WRs dropping the ball after extremely slight contact, CBs warping 5-10 yards to stop a pass to a wide open man, the extremely common strip tackle animations, etc.

    The way to be successful in this game is to take advantage of the poorly designed AI and run plays that the AI is not capable of performing well against. Some plays in madden simply don't work as they're intended to, and you have to be aware of that. The unfortunate truth is that because of how poor madden's gameplay has become, there is a massive disconnect between how a football game is won in the NFL and how a football game is won in madden. All of my frustrations with how this game plays can be summed up by the facts that madden does not adhere to physics (size of a player and momentum) so it's forced to rely on scripted animations and that AI in madden is so fundamentally broken that a game of madden cannot replicate a single play of NFL football. Players have no awareness of their teammates, their opponents, the line to gain, the endzone, the sideline, and the ball. You can go to a replay of any one of your plays (especially pass plays) - pause it after the snap and look at the offensive line. Ask yourself if that looks like a blocking scheme from the NFL, and then calmly wonder to yourself how this game continues to get released with this kind of gameplay. My offensive line looks more like a new constellation than a collective unit of professional football players.

    In the end, someday there will be a simulation football game where you can throw a fade in the corner of the endzone and where pulling guards actually block an opposing linebacker, but I'm not sure that it will ever be a madden game.    … Expand

    Absolute worst game I have ever played, I was kicked out to the menu, and now my controls have been remapped, and there is no way to remap them. When loading into the game it thinks that there are two controllers connected when there is only one, this glitch combined with the remapped controls makes the game literally unplayable. Do not buy this game.

    This game on Steam has been given as a 32% positive rating so far. According to steam250..com, this would make it the 19th lowest rated game on Steam. Only NBA 2K18 is rated worse for a sports game.

    New faces and more realistic faces of current players - Not on the PC version only Next Gen Consoles (They don't even have the new rookie photos in the normal game, they are only in their MUT mode!)

    The list goes on, that's on top of all the same bugs at the start of last years game (Madden 21) with extra ones just for this year, all for the SAME price as the Next Gen Console Version.

    It's not only insulting to your PC player base but really that's the last time I trust anything coming from EA Sports. I'll find a new sports games to play with friends I suggest you all do the same. NFL should be ashamed to have anything to do with EA and the way they are tarnishes the NFL's image.    … Expand

    Wait. I just looked at a review. The PC version is... not next gen? You're telling me my 2070S with an i9 isn't up-to-par with a PS5? Jesus. I just got scammed. The Origin store page didn't even tell me I wasn't getting the full version.

    Anyways, running in this game is so dependent on animations I had Joe Mixon get 'tackled' after a yard, but rode animations forward for about 15 until he 'broke free' and ran it for a touchdown.

    Still the annoying jumping animations that cut routes short, stop momentum, and kills plays. I'll have a wide open drag route being run and the receiver will jump forward 10 yards for a -5 yard gain.

    The AI thinks it knows more than me. I had a receiver catch two balls, then was taken out via auto subs for a quarter in a half. When I try to sub him back in, I can't. Won't let me.

    Franchise Mode isn't different. its not. Its just more visually appealing. Scouting is the same (heard there is an update coming but since I'm on PC I don't think I get it), and you have coaching trees instead of boxes. All they did was take those traits and made them into a tree, added a currency, and took some traits and put them onto the coordinators.

    If I could, I'd refund. I can't. Origin only allows refunds after 24hrs, which isn't very smart or fair because it took me 9hrs and 48 hours from first launch to properly get a feel for this game. Its awful. Animations and scripting ruin this game. Here's my favorite story.

    Joe Burrow with a clean pocket, launching a pass to Ja'Marr Chase who is open down the middle, is put into 'under pressure' but still throws a dart to Chase which adjusts his body, puts his hands on the ball, but the corner 5 yards behind him teleports, takes the ball from his hands, and runs away. Game over.

    I bet money if you check the code on this game, its 5+ years old.

    It is the best Madden on Frostbite engine, which means it's kinda **** and broken. But it's not completely **** this time.

    It's better than Madden 21 and while there are improvements in Franchise Mode, I feel like there could be more. And they made improvements to the gameplay. However, I honestly don't like the new home field advantage and the return of X- Factors. But overall, Madden NFL 22 is a very solid game.

    Madden 22 takes some leaps in certain modes such as Franchise, but takes some gigantic steps backward or maintains inconsistent levels of gameplay in others. While Face of the Franchise loses much of its “underdog story” vibe, Franchise has taken steps forward, while for every MUT improvement, there’s a new on-the-field annoyance. Another year stuck in place, then, but there’s still fun to be had for those looking to score plenty of in-game touchdowns – just don’t expect any huge yardage gains for the franchise as a whole here.

    If we have to compare Madden NFL 22 to one of the two quarterbacks on its cover, the latter is more Tom Brady than Patrick Mahomes: he becomes thinner and more complete over time, but still idles like his last years. The game is running out of steam from a technical point of view, and the difference between the next-gen and the PS4 / ONE versions is not so obvious on the visual, especially as the online and solo bugs are still also common. On the other hand, Madden does not fall into the trap that made Opus 21 a failure, namely to give a second youth to Franchise and Career modes via cool additions (Momentums, coaching staff talent tree ... ). For the rest, we will wait for the real "slap" episode that the new generation of consoles deserves in the years to come.
