    LOVE is a simple but fun game, with simple but relatively nice, ultra-retro visuals, a neat, yet simple respawn mechanic, and a decent replay value due to its simple score-chasing mindset, and its equally simple level editor. Simply put: it's ok… and that's all there is to say about it.

While this is fine for the regular modes where you have a lot of lives, it becomes a real pain in the butt when doing the YOLO mode (only one life). Precision input becomes necessity, and the delay that is natural with sub-60fps titles is very noticeable in this mode. I also kept it, despite beating it within Steam's refund window, because despite its shortcomings, this is good. Unlike kuso.… Full Review »

LOVE is 2.99 on steam. Love is an indie platformer made by Fred Wood. I have a lot of respect for a game created all by (or mostly by) one person. Interestingly, these games seem to be some of the best out there (LISA, Undertale, Etc.) But the interesting thing about love particularly is that it was ALL done by one guy. But enough about the context behind the game, onto the game itself. Love is a *Clear throat* “Reductive platforming game with a retro aesthetic and a focus on punishing difficulty.” Essentially, an Atari 2600 platformer on steam. And you know what, I freaking love it. Let’s start with the variation in the game. There are 2 ways to play LOVE: Trying to die as little as possible, or the right way. That’s right, break out your guitar hero controllers, DDR pads, and crippling physical pain, because I’m talkin’ speedruns. I generally think speedruns of games tend to desensitize players to the natural fun given in a game, but it lends itself so well to LOVE’s design. The game’s levels perfectly compliment the two different ways of play, too. There’s a level, for instance, where you can jump from platform to platform over the course of around a minute or a minute and a half… OR you could just straight up freefall for 20 seconds to the end of the level. The freefall takes twitch button presses to pull off and you start at the beginning if you can’t quite make it, but the safe option is much slower if both are pulled off perfectly. Almost every level has some way to skip a section, but never via the infamous g word… glitches. Every skip the game has is deliberate, and I’ve yet to find any substantial bugs within the game. Now, with all of this said, the game is rather short, and it doesn’t have a lot to set itself apart in the realm of gimmicks and controls (Apart from the ability to place checkpoints.) However, even if you don’t think this sounds like the thing for you, this game gets major points for one reason: The soundtrack. The soundtrack to this game is what roped me into this game originally. I have no words to describe it, it’s all very strange, but in such a good way I can hardly describe it. One last however, in the last, grand twist, I’m going to recommend it for 50% off. Why you ask? Because Fred Wood is coming out with a sequel to this game that includes the remastered levels from LOVE. There isn’t a price point yet, but it’s sure to be absolutely amazing and worth it, at least I hope so. A demo is already out, and it looks like more of the amazing sound and gameplay that LOVE made me fall in love with.… Full Review »
