В свое время мне эта игра понравилась, хоть и была не выдающейся, но что то в ней есть такое.

    Pros:
    • No frills pure action.
    • Mech battles are so fun. • Sprawling landscapes. • Good variety/design of weapons, enemies, and bosses. • PC Graphics look like current gen at 1080p 60fps. Cons: • Game pace would've been better if Wayne/Mechs had a sprint mechanic. • Ammo/Weapons are pretty much infinite. Grenades aren't a viable choice most of the time because you have so much

    • Every mission is pretty much get from Point A to Point B to fight boss, would've been cool if you had to collect key items or solve puzzles along the way.
    • Some sections are a little too easy to bypass.
    • Kinda short. Needs 2 or 3 more missions.

This action game will fool you into thinking it's a cake walk but brace yourself, it gets really intense. The monster baddies and walking mechs are awesome!

Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions is a game that very much shows its age. Dating from late 2006/early 2007, this third person shooter was praised on its release for its graphical fidelity; today, however, all of the clunkiness of the game is on full display.

You play as Wayne, a man who fights aliens that live on a snow-covered planet, but which have thermal energy buried in their bodies. Killing them allows you to collect that energy, which serves as both a backup health bar as well as gradually depleting over time as you freeze in the cold environment. Run out, and you die. However, given the number of enemies you fight, that’s very, very unlikely – I regularly ended levels with close to 10,000 energy, which depletes only slowly.

From a mechanical point of view, this game really shows how bad some old third-person shooters’ controls were. You can’t run while on foot in this game, instead moving around at a constant, quite slow pace. You can jump a short distance. You can fire a grappling hook, sort of Ocarina of Time hookshot-like, but you can only target the walls, so you can’t use it to travel around more quickly on foot, and it doesn’t control very smoothly. You can shoot, and the shooting is… vaguely competent, but not very satisfying, and feels kind of clunky, in part due to your low walking speed. You’ve got grenades, which are not terribly satisfying to throw, but get the job done. There are a few mecha-type vehicles you can climb into, but none of them really spice up the game all that much.

All in all, then, this game is kind of hard to love. The aliens are theoretically interesting but in practice ended up feeling kind of samey, as you fought many of the same types over and over again, and while they’ve got some “shoot the weak spot” mechanics which should make them more interesting to fight, in the end, they actually didn’t feel all that fun to combat. The human enemies are pretty standard, and weren’t terribly exciting either. And all of this is overshadowed by an overarching “this game feels so clunky” feeling that is hard to shake.

The actual plot is pretty mediocre as well – you are an amnesiac hero with a special power (namely, absorbing thermal energy), but there’s nothing to really love there. The characters are okay but nothing to write home about, and while the humans have not aged as badly as the terrain has graphically, they clearly are a product of the early Xbox 360 era.

Perhaps the worst thing about this game is its use of Games for Windows Live, a now-dead service which requires a workaround to make function with this game on Windows 10 – and indeed, even on Windows 7 and 8. It took me close to an hour to find a way to make this game work, and it really wasn’t worth it.

All in all, this is something that should be relegated to the dustbin of history – while the core concept of fighting aliens for their heat energy seems kind of neat, in practice it is a bog-standard third person shooter with nothing really remarkable about it save for how poorly it has aged.

Quite a hidden action shooter gem on PC these days, but not without issues. Audio levels get all messed up and overly loud when lots of action happens on screen. Not a very friendly game to mouse/keyboard users, while controlling the game isnt an issue in that way, they feel alright, problem is when you get to pilot a new vehicle game only shows Xbox 360 controls, not the keyboard inputs.

With that out of the way all i can say the more i played the more i enjoyed Lost Planet, it has that cheeky japanese story telling and characters, but somehow they just work out. Story itself isnt gonna win awards but action game wise i did enjoy it either way. Levels at times are quite open so you explore if you like. Shooting feels good, guns themselves have a meaty and impactful sound to them. Enemy AI rarely poses much challenge, usualy they just stand there waiting to get shot up, theyre only a problem in a VS when youre on foot. While most boss fights are fair and entertaining, Mission 3 end boss is just so stupidly done, its very OP with its special attacks once you get his health down to 50 % or lower, even on Normal difficulty its a very frustrating boss battle, i gotta say i almost gave up and rage quit the whole game cuz of it, but after some time of dying, repeating, trying different strategies i beat him. Also the earth worm akrid in early game can be a pain the butt too if you dont know how to dodge on mouse and keyboard, somehow in the game controls options game doesnt tell you can dodge. At start i also was bummed that theres no classic sprint option, you just have one default running speed which isnt that fast at which you move in game world, even then i kinda got used to it the more i played.

The whole VS mech thing and even the gundam stuff also help the game big time to be as fun as it is, tho kinda disappointingly you get to use the whole gundam capability only in last boss battle. Just really fun with all the different weapons to kill akrid and destroy Nevec in the VS rigs.

Overall its one of those games i didnt expect to like that much, initial impressions were pretty mixed given all the issues, but in the end im glad the game delivered.

The game plays like a tech demo of what was possible with the sets of consoles that were in vogue in 2007. Controller and Keyboard is laggy, and there is more that is making the gameplay something to resent. The story in itself plays a naive tone, the characters are extreme, too extreme in some cases, either in idealism, in slyness or other personality traits, making them most of the time one dimensional.

Boss fights can be fun, sometimes. But the fights in between can get really annoying or even bothersome, the TE stuff isn't well executed and hinders fluid game-play. The VS (kind of Mechs) are also something that has an ambivalent value. After all, it's a console port - and you would expect they cleaned out some of the bugs, but no - they are still in there.

It's not the fault of the controller, or the fault of the GPU, it's the game if your Avatar in this game is reacting slowly on given commands. The main protagonist is another reason to have some resentment for this game... He is a highly unpleasant Anti-Hero or even "Tragic-Hero".

If a planet is that cold there would be ways to live extended amounts of time without extract of alien monsters. Lastly story, typical Japanese 'long-haired hero goes through trials to find out he is a man after all' kind of story. He even holds a grudge against a monster that got his dad. Not an amazing game but a good shooter none the less. Capcom have done a good job of porting it over from console, unlike alot of other companies. Its a shame that you have to buy the newer version to emjoy multi platform multiplayer. Would have been nice if current owners could just patch to latest version.

Fun mecha game. The interchangeable weapons are a cool touch. Its even cooler that you can use the big mech weapons without the mech. Multiplayer is interesting. Nice animation and visuals as well.
