I have been playing computer games over 20 years. This rates as one of the best games of all time, period.

Ahhh.... This game has a lot of history for me, being one of the first I played on Windows (95), back in 1997. I got the demo off of a PC Gamer disc, if I recall, and intensely hungered for more. Fast forward to today, and I still play it now and then. The AI is terrible by today's standards; you can trick the enemies into funneling into meaty jaws of arrowdeath pretty easily once youAhhh.... Game is a blast in multiplayer, if you can get past the fact that modern computers make it behave like a tweaker with 10 cups of coffee. Grab it, try it, and enjoy it. Expand

Very good game. Mix of economic and tactic game. Awesome sort of strategy. Can cheat a bit during fights, but I call it tactic ^^ it's time consuming and not always able to do. Economy aspect is on high level, maybe it lacks a bit reasons to be allies with others... not too many profitable options. Still strong 10/10

Simply way ahead of its time, a defining piece of the Grand Strategy Genre, feature more polished and complex gameplay than titles from the Total War series offer 15 years later, with enough personality and flavor to make you smile while conquering the world.

The scope of the game is fairly unrealistic. Despite the atmosphere looking and feeling real, the counties in Lords 2 have 500 to 1500 people in them. The smallest counties of medieval England had 40,000; the largest around 250,000. That’s easy to get over. The broken AI is not. The computer becomes easy to predict and beat. Diplomacy is meaningless. Even if you have a perfect relationship with your ally, he/she won’t help you and will actually even attack you unexpectedly. The computer players will send random marauders attack you for no reason. If you kill an enemy army attacking your land, diplomatic relationships drop, even though you were defending yourself. Food production is limited to growing wheat because the cattle in the game demand too much attention. County management becomes tedious past a certain. All in all, the game is fun until you know what you're doing. Expand

I did however find the resource maps and graphics to be confusing. When looking at the resource map you can't tell right away which industries are on or off. You can get this info from the map legend but think the map could have been a bit clearer.
  2. And challenging it is: The Middle Ages were tough times and similarly, Lords of the Realm II is a tough game.
  3. A solid game, but it isn't terribly original.
