I was flabbergasted by what two largely unknown studios managed to achieve. Lords of the Fallen is not just a creative take on the formula introduced by From Software, but also a game that can rival the greatest recent RPGs and looks like Monica Bellucci and Sophie Marceau from their best years. Straightforward copycat of "Souls" games achieved a success because it can reach players the Japanese series could not because it was too difficult. The game is still challenging but you won't be desperate from playing it. [Issue#247]

Lords of the Fallen is a small miracle when you consider the size of the studios that have worked on the project and the quality of the art direction and combat system, but unfortunately it does not completely shine.

Lords of the Fallen, a shameless and sloppy copy of Dark Souls, shouldn't be as enjoyable as it is. Somehow, through all its imbalance and oddity, it remains a surprising amount of fun, even if its propensity to make the player laugh is a sheer accident.

Tough, unforgiving but lacking a certain something. [Dec 2014, p.56]

Lords of the Fallen serves as a solid entry point to those toeing the waters of the Souls franchise, but simplified systems, a shallow story and forgettable bosses keep this game from dethroning the greats.

If you have a capable rig—and don’t experience the crashes I did—I think it’s a worthwhile experience. Still, it’s less interesting than Dark Souls in terms of plot and setting, and full of wandering and grinding that first tested my patience, and finally made me as powerful as some of the bosses. If I could take its combat system, weapons, and enemies and put it in another more interesting game, I would.

Mix in some encounters that are harder and some that are easier. Change the combat system a little bit and the spells and you essentially have this game.

It is a really good game and consider that 90% of the bad reviews were simply due to the bugs on the games launch which are all fixed now. I played through the entire thing twice and didn't experience a single bug or glitch.

GIVE THIS GAME A TRY! If you like dark souls even a little bit this game is for you. If you don't I still recommend it to any RPG lover.

Awesome game. It is challenging, very challenging and the classes almost feel like difficulty levels. Most people say the Warrior class isAwesome game. It is challenging, very challenging and the classes almost feel like difficulty levels. Most people say the Warrior class is the easiest whereas I say it is the Cleric, they do a ton of damage, their spells are actually very handy and they can take a fair bit of damage.

The graphics are spectacular, the combat just feels right. Each class and weapon has its own feel and it the best melee combat I have seen in any game for a long long time.

Sure in small corridors the camera can get frustrating at times and sometimes going over bits you already done can get tiresome, but it is a game where you learn from your mistakes and aspects of the game become easier through understanding. My hit of the year in the RPG genre.

I actually rated this better than DS2 insofar as i actually had more fun with it. Not knocking on DS which is a great franchise and one that II actually rated this better than DS2 insofar as i actually had more fun with it. Not knocking on DS which is a great franchise and one that I enjoy greatly, but DS2 seemed to lack a little 'soul' and was missing that omph-factor for me.

Lords on the other hand pressed all my right buttons. While in some ways character creating/building isn't as diverse as DS, it is still robust enough for those who enjoy tweaking builds. Much like DS, there isn't a huge or great plot (or dialogue) for the most parts. But then again, I don't think many played DS for it's plot or dialogue.

Game play is very similar to DS but slightly more forgiving with less 'cheap-shot-insta-kills'. Graphics are decent but unless your rig is pretty robust expect frame-rate issues. I have not had many crashes thankfully but every single one is traumatic if you're the type that hordes xp. I do hope they fix the crashing soon as it is spoiling what is turning out to be a pretty fun game for me.

A good filler for DS players and a good game for newer players to get introduced to the concept.

I call this games fight mechanics an obsolete **** if you want to spend your time running around fighting same monsters over and over and over and get nothing, this game is just for you. Expand

Well I don't know what to say, it feels like a bootleg Dark Souls and they didn't even do a good job of copying it.

    Pros: Visuals Voice
Well I don't know what to say, it feels like a bootleg Dark Souls and they didn't even do a good job of copying it.

    Pros:

    Visuals
    Voice work

    Cons:

    Performance
    Clunky combat
Switching locked on targets is extremely cumbersome
Lock on often targets enemies miles away instead of the one next to you
The camera constantly loses focus of the target
The hit boxes are wildly inaccurate, you literally get hit when you're nowhere near the ability
Boring bosses that are made long by giving them tons of HP
Last boss is just awful and still buggy 2 years after release

I really don't recommend this, I bought it for £4 and still feel like it was a waste of money.
