    Don't buy this piece of crap and DEFINITLEY don't support this very seedy developer.

    I bought this game because it looked like it might be decent, even though it looked bad. Turns out it was just bad! I wonder if anyone could actually enjoy this.

    This game is a very bad port of a mobile game.

    Gameplay is very touch oriented, graphics feels like previous ipad generation, textures of very low quality, a lot of small bugs like shooting throw walls and buggy AI. You have no stop time function, which kills the gameplay, because interface is too sloopy to controll, too many readial menus, drag and drop system.

    Avoid this game at all costs.

    This game is just plain bad. The Controls bug me the most, the graphics are not better. It is a cheap port of a mobile game and this is how it feels playing it. The developers attitude in censoring bad reviews on steam is a eye-opener but was not couting towards this score here, since it has nothing to do with the game itself.

    An awkward port of what would otherwise have been a decent game.
    The graphics are middle of the range, neither overwhelmingly good or bad, they just get the job done.
    The sound brings to mind games like Dark Reign or some of the earlier Command and Conquer games - nice, but it won't blow your socks off. The control interface for the PC version is awkward at best, you will often find    An awkward port of what would otherwise have been a decent game.

    So after firing up the game what stands out...

    The Graphics are nothing special but are crisp and clear, important boxes and objectives stand out. This part is great.

    The interface is the games major let down, its been ported from a mobile platform and it shows. This is a tactical real time game with no pause (well there is but it brings up the game menu and blocks the view) so the controls need to be sharp and clear... they are far, far from it and consist of a drag and drop system and radial menus that block the view. You carefully order 1 member of your team forward only to find your whole squad sprinting out of cover and getting shot to pieces. Or you might find yourself frantically opening and closing the radial menu on a stunned enemy in the hopes that the "incapacitate" option will come up before the flashbang grenade you lobbed wears off. You might also find out in the middle of battle that the 'energy lance' a 'raygun' looking weapon is actually a sword and your squaddie has broken cover yet again in a vain attempt to use it.

    This game shows a great deal of potential but if its to be saved from turning into another Battlecruiser 3000 somebody needs to take it out of Derek Smart's incapable hands and totally rebuild the interface.

    Note: As i write this Derek Smart (the games dev) is blocking anybody who writes a bad review on steam from posting on the steam forums and is choking the front page with pinned posts so nobody can see the bad reviews.    … Expand

    Not very good. Very generic and very clunky, even for a mobile game. The graphical fidelity leaves much to be desired, and the actual "tactics" of it feel elementary at best best. I've honestly had a tougher time playing connect 4.

    The controls on the PC are clunky, there's only 16 levels, and the Dev will straight yell at you in the Steam Forums. It's classic Derek Smart - a good idea underbaked, with confusing controls (at least on PC) and a ridiculous 25 dollar price tag (WAY more than the android release.)

I can't guess what the intention was. It's a very simple style of game to design but for some reason it has radial menus that don't always offer what you want or need.     I know the company and the developer. Frankly I'm surprised they/he is still around. Like always, he promises and boasts and they are only true in his tiny little world. The game is uninspired and lackluster with little to recommend it other then to see what new train wreck he's "developed". Nuff said.

    Warning! Tried the demo, was very frustrated at how poorly it was made. I wouldn't even consider playing the normal game. I posted another review on steam and was promptly banned and harassed by the developer; I will NEVER buy from this developer.

    Where are the negative integers for review score?

    Bad game backed up by nasty lead developer who is a well known troll and kind of the Uwe Boll of the games industry.

    Just go and take a look at their steam forum... They lock/delete posts and BAN users from it where they are complaining about the game, or saying bugs need to be fixed. That attitude speaks volumes and by itself warrants a low score.

    This game is TRASH. All the DLC in steam is priced at CAD $180.

    This literally means they will probably not play-test it, they will probably not work on the game anymore, and if you don't like playing it as is then.. "Screw off"

    This game is BUGGY as hell. The graphics are Terrible. I mean Terrible! There are random mechanical... People? I guess? standing in levels that don't do anything but stand there.

    Your bullets pass through other people, your automatic gun fires SLOW. The UI is buggy at best. There is NO tutorial, NO new player introduction. There is NO music. The sound is abysmal... When you walk it sounds like some person was saying "chew chew chew chew" into a mic and they modified the sound a bit.

    The game crashes all the time. I mean ALL the time. The players I encountered were immune to my bullets... My cross hairs went 'red' on some targets.. Were these enemies? nope. they were.. I don't know what they were.

    There is no purpose to the.. levels? I guess... ramps to empty rooms, platforms that don't do anything. Doors that don't lead anywhere.... The planetside terrain looks like it was just slapped together randomly with nothing having a real function.

    The economy seems to be 'point' based. Not only that you can't do anything without points.. which makes no sense.

    When you finally figure out how to get missions, you can mess them up by pressing the wrong key..

    I've read this is a direct tablet port. I can't even see how this would be fun on a tablet. It seems it's just a cash grab by a developer with no skills or ability. The positive reviews here must be the developer and the other people who worked on the game or the devs family. First 3 reviews.. kinda gives it away.

    Very few times have I instantly regretted installing something.. almost wanted to wipe my machine to remove all traces of this.. "game"..

    feel like I was conned .. there are FTP games which are more appealing

    I went countless hours through empty fields and servers. There are virtually no other players arround.
    Technically this game is an embarrassment. If it was 5 dollar shovelware I wouldn't mind. I don't know if the developers are actually serious about this.

    Don't even bother with this crap. I can get more fun out of minesweeper or solitaire. Hell even watching dog poop on the lawn would be more enjoyable experience.

    This is an abysmal games and egregious porting horribly overpriced. The only thing worse than the game is the developer himself, the very embodiment of the concepts of "bad attitude" and "arrogance".

    The pc demo is out now if you want to try it . It's a very bland title that adds nothing new to gaming. Controls are not very good and the dev hates you.

    You should consider buying anything else before checking out this game.

Line of Defense Tactics tries to mask its simplistic concept behind various options that really amount to anything different or innovating. You have to earn points to obtain a new gun... well why can't I just pick one up off a dead body? Why must I travel to those annoying little squares by the way?

    I honestly could see how on a mobile device that this game might be considered decent but when you blow it up to higher resolutions - it really shows its intended medium. It comes across as a low end Facebook game when blown up to larger formats. The textures and coloring all become very bland and nondescript.

    The biggest matter of contention though is the fact that the PC version costs $25 while the mobile version is merely $5. For $5, the game and its flaws are almost excusable. To expect customers to pay $25 for it though is clearly a fool's errand. There are MUCH MUCH better games on the market for that amount and believe me - gamers know it.

    In the end, my experience with the demo was one that confirmed the majority of the other reviews here and all around the internet. This game isn't worth its cost and is very much in the emperor's new clothes vein. The developer will tout how advanced and challenging LODT is but everyone else in the room sees it as something quite different. I can only imagine what that must mean for their upcoming so called MMO.    … Expand

    Aside from the price, the controls are TERRIBLE. They are extremely clunky and unresponsive. It was very clearly built for touch screens (and it doesn't even work that well on those, I've downloaded it on my phone) and it's obvious they put zero effort into porting it to the PC. They think that because Unity comes with the option to automatically get the game running on multiple devices that their job is done, no more is needed. Well they're horribly wrong and their game will suffer because of it.

    Gameplay is very unpolished. AI is horrible. You can shoot and get shot through walls and other terrain. The fog of war is a cheap way to increase the difficulty due to the fact that the controls are so bad. By the time you fumble through the the radial menus to pull back your men since 10 enemies were revealed out of no where you may as well just restart the mission or uninstall the game and try to get a refund.

    There is absolutely NO REASON you should spend your money on this game. Not one. There are so many more strategy games out now that are a 10 times better than this in every way you can think of, seriously.

    Please, just save your money. Don't support lazy developers who are only looking to make a quick buck off of the unsuspecting PC market. Instead support developers who put time and effort to make their games fun and functional.

    I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of Line of Defense Tactics and played through several of the missions. I'd like to post my comments here along. Please remember, all of these comments and opinions are mine and no one else. :)

    Ok, I actually had a copy for my iPhone and Windows. I played the game on both, but I prefer to play it on Windows because playing on my iPhone    I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of Line of Defense Tactics and played through several of the missions. I'd like to post my comments here along. Please remember, all of these comments and opinions are mine and no one else. :)

    Ok, I actually had a copy for my iPhone and Windows. I played the game on both, but I prefer to play it on Windows because playing on my iPhone where everything is too small was giving me headaches. Then again, it was probably due to my bi-focals! :) Anyways, I'm sure people that don't wear glasses would be just fine. I want to stress, that I'm in no way complaining here. :)

    Don't get me wrong, it still plays good on the iPhone, just a bit tiny for my tastes, even with zooming in. Playing on the iPhone entails you having to use your finger to drag movement paths for your team, pick actions, etc. It works very well on the iPhone iOS environment. I encountered no slow downs or problems and It ran extremely well.

    A nice touch is on the Main Menu screen where you will find a Database button which allows you to view various information on aircraft, androids, carriers and characters. When you select any of those, you can select different assets to see their loadouts, life, etc.

    The copy I played on my Windows 7 system was very good as well. I played the game at my resolution of 1680 x 1050 and experienced no slow downs. For selecting movement paths and actions, you use the mouse by clicking on each team member. You can also click on the map and move it as well as roll your mouse wheel to zoom in. The first mission serves as a tutorial to get you up and running. The second mission also has some tutorial elements to it, such as using a medic. The second mission took me 2 tries to beat. The game definitely is tactical. You just can't run your team haphazardly around and expect to win. You must make tactical decisions as to where to put your team, when to attack and what weapon to use.

    One thing I have noticed, that I hope will be changed, is that when the mission ends, there is still loot to be collected. It'd be nice if you could collect the loot and then end the mission. In the third campaign scenario, I successfully stormed a ship's bridge and killed the Insurgents in it. But before I could collect the loot, a message pop-up saying the mission was over. Not a show-stopper, but it would let the player feel a sense of total accomplishment if he could grab any remaining loot.

    The fourth mission introduces the player to space combat with ships. I was really impressed with the asteroid and ship graphics. Your ship is pretty much controlled like you do with your team in the earlier missions, click on the ship and give it orders. In this mission you needed to get your capital ship to destroy an Insurgent ship and dock with Arkangel starstation. All the while doing this, you are fighting off waves of Insurgent fighters. Docking with the Arkangel starstation in Mission 5 also gives you a sense of accomplishment, especially after fighting you way through waves of fighters and other ships just to get there.

    Mission 8 starts you off with a couple of missions on Arkangel station. They play out pretty much like the first 3 scenarios. Mission 6 takes you to the surface of Lyrius. You have a few scenarios there that you have to use your tactics to accomplish the missions. Mission 16 takes you back into space where you have to defend a Jump Gate and neutralize Insurgent ships.

    Throughout the game, you earn Combat Experience Points (CEPs), which allow you to purchase upgrades for your team members. In the space battle scenarios, the CEPs allow you to resupply your ship. There are a total of 16 scenarios in the game.

    All in all, I like the game. The game is not your typical "run and gun" variety. As I stated before, you have to think and use tactics to accomplish the scenarios. You may end up replaying scenarios a few times until you accomplish them. There is also a Skirmish mode that you can purchase for $1.99. In playing this mode you have to defend yourself from endless waves of Insurgents. Any CEPs and salvage will transfer over to the main campaign. This is a good way to upgrade your team members.

    To me it brings a different view on the Battlecruiser universe. It would be a fine addition to any 3000AD fan's library of games.    … Expand

    Great game, played it on both iOS and PC. It stands out a lot more on mobile as there's really not much on mobile that does real-time squad gameplay with these kind of graphics especially.

    It’s not a particularly good advert for the brand, or the MMO. It’s way too pricey for what it is, and it’s got very little replayability. Coupled with the fact that there are plenty of games on tablet that do what it’s trying to do so so much better (The tablet port of XCOM, for example) that, really, this looks incredibly amateurish by comparison.

    Line of Defense Tactics includes an entertaining and in-depth strategy experience, yet doesn't provide a great introduction to the game's universe with a narrative that isn't compelling or interesting. Even with some of the later levels straying into frustrating territory, much of the game provides a worthwhile and challenging gameplay experience that is sure to please strategy enthusiasts. While not perfect, Line of Defense Tactics is a solid entry in the squad-based strategy genre.
