My daughter said she was gonna code KH4 when i introduced her to the series five years ago— I’m hoping she works on KH5 because we get the sequel far sooner than the wait from KH2-KH3. I love Nomura, but really should change the heavy side game structure for a bit to focus while the attention is hot. I feel like not having an announcement trailer for KH4 in 2022 for the 20 year anniversary would be a massive letdown.

This is a fantastic PC port.

The mods are already coming in strong and Alftru left a negative view just because he's a crybaby.
    The save points are plentiful.

Got the platinum on PS4 and cant wait to get it on this platform as well.

Kingdom Hearts 7 is a game that pretends to be Kingdom Hearts 3, the sequel to Kingdom Hearts 2. Instead, it is actually a sequel to ALL of the Kingdom Hearts games, including both the handheld games and the mobile phone gacha game. Instead, it is actually a sequel to ALL of the Kingdom Hearts games, including both the handheld games and the mobile phone gacha game. And indeed, even if we’re talking in terms of linear time, rather than being a direct sequel to Kingdom Hearts 2, there is actually another game in-between KH2 and 3 that is referenced a fair bit.

ALL of the “side” handheld games are, in fact, considered mainline games, and a huge part of the plot is tied into them – heck, even the mobile game for the PHONE is an integral part of the ending of the game. if you have not played the side games, then you will be completely lost absent a plot summary.

Not that the game does, either.

This is not a game that does a good job of delivering its story. The plot and pacing are absolute garbage. Virtually nothing of import happens on any of the Disney worlds – they could have literally just had two show up and it would have made no difference to the overarching plot. What the worlds actually were is almost completely irrelevant, with only Hercules and Twilight Town actually having any relevance to the meta plot, and Hercules only by serving as a way to deliver an idea to Sora.

The Disney worlds here are completely pointless, and while the Organization does show up, only in the Toy Story world and the Big Hero Six world does the Organization member really interact with the characters in the world and actually affect THEM in any way.

Almost the entire plot is packed into the very final, non-Disney world, and it is a jumbled mess. Everyone dies, and comes back to life. There are multiple versions of the same character more than once. Characters sometimes simply vanish from the plot completely arbitrarily, or enter just as suddenly. And once it is all over, it turns out that everything was the machinations of a random person who was from the freaking mobile phone game that even if you played it, you likely didn't get to the end of because it was a horrible gacha game.

So, fine, the plot is terrible. But why would you play a Kingdom Hearts game for the plot? Clearly, it is all about the gameplay!

Sadly, while Kingdom Hearts was very exciting when it was one of the first action RPGs, the genre has evolved to have like, actually good gameplay – which this game is completely lacking in. You can solve most encounters by mashing attack, with the odd jump or jump-recovery mixed in, and can use your magic (well, really, your thunder or fire, because why bother with any of the other powers?) to kill enemies more rapidly. You can also use “links”, which replace your entire party with an either overpowered or nearly useless summon, which can either clear out an encounter by itself or feel really janky.

And mixed in with all of this are various super moves. Some of these, like the formchanges and grand magics, are just strong, but some are team combo attacks that wipe out half of an encounter by themselves, and some – the attractions, which show up constantly – can often completely solve an encounter single-handedly. Worse still, there’s only five of them in the game, so the same ones show up *constantly*, encounter after encounter, and because of the large number of enemies and the lack of meaningful challenge, it’s often best to use them simply to make things go by faster. On top of that, the attractions completely replace the normal gameplay with the attraction gameplay, which is not only even more simplified, but is often pretty lame.

The game is very easy even on proud mode, and only Critical mode is all that hard – but Critical mode makes itself hard by making it very easy to get one-shotted and simply cranking up enemy health, rather than actually making the gameplay significantly more involved and interesting.

All in all, then, this is a game that feels like it was going for spectacle over substance, but the spectacle wasn’t that good. There are some neat flashy things, but they happen so frequently that you become completely dulled to it. There are supposedly significant plot events that have absolutely no actual bearing on the plot, half of the most epic moments happen in cutscenes for no apparent reason, and in the end, there are a bunch of plot threads left dangling from games I didn’t even play.

It’s hard to recommend this game to anyone.

It is primarily a fanservice game, trying to wrap up loose ends for the fans of the previous games, but because of the sheer number of characters combined with the very poor pacing, they are all given very cursory treatment.

For newcomers, or people who only played the first two games, it is likely to be baffling.

The fact that 90% of the game is irrelevant to the plot was a baffling decision that only further weakens it for both groups.

And even disregarding all that, the game isn't even fun to play.

I found the 3rd game to be a great game. Fun, silly, unique, heart warming and typically quirky and random and to me, this is a video game. It maybe confusing and cut scene heavy but it's extremely well presented. Well worth it on a good PC. Avoid native 4K though as cut scenes eat 28 GB of system RAM and eat performance to 10-18 FPS for some reason. Go 1440p with resolution scale at 125% and it's beautiful. 120 FPS.

It HAS ISSUES, but to me, they weren't deal breakers. One biggest wrinkle on the combat for me were the attractions... they really destroy the rhythm of combat but I used the pro codes to get rid of them soooo all's good. I was skeptical about them removing the drive forms but bruuhh, the new form changing mechanic adds so much to our (players) playstyle. There were moments where the voice acting sucks but it didn't bother me too much. PLUS, the game jokes about itself sometimes through dialogue and it's so hilarious! Give this game a try, if you still haven't. It's definitely worth a shot but I recommend you to play the preceding titles first, at least the two main installments to get a better grasp of the story and get familiar with the combat system, characters, what kingdom hearts is about, etc.

Tldr; it's not a perfect game but it's definitely somewhere up there. Play it! Great port btw, as far as my personal experience is concerned.

Kingdom Hearts 3, while being easily one of the most beautiful KH games to date, is an imperfect work of art.

Graphically, the game is crisp, detailed, beautiful, and runs like butter on a decent computer. Sonically, the music is as good (if not better) than most in the series, the SFX is punchy and perfect for the game. Storywise, it is about what one can expect from the series.

Storywise, it is about what one can expect from the series. As convoluted as the story up to now has been, it is a good conclusion to most all of the plot threads from the previous games.

Gameplay, where the game should truly shine, is unfortunately one of the places it falters. The attack animations are floaty, have long pauses after most, and it doesn't feel as reactive as 2 was able to achieve. Attractions, formchanges, team attacks, and the summon system being overhauled into the Link system were great additions, but incredibly imbalanced while still having some of the previous complaints about attacks. The Gummiship sections are very well done, and it shows how much effort went into making it work. Lastly, the world variety is great, but dragged down in how much preferential treatment was given to some over others. Frozen's world is the biggest and most fleshed out in the game, feeling like it's twice the size of all the others. Physically Big Hero 6's and the Pirates' worlds are larger, but both feel more hollow and empty than any of the others, especially once completed.

If you're a fan of KH as a series, definitely pick it up, if you are not I think you should pick up the KH 1.5+2.5 collection to really experience it at it's best storywise and in gameplay.

I’m a big enough fan of this franchise to do something like that but it does not necessarily mean that it was a good Kingdom Hearts game. Starting with the positives, I think my favorite thing is the combat itself. Once you have all the abilities unlocked, and you know how to actually use them, it really becomes a lot of fun and is the best the series has ever offered - especially when playing in Critical mode, you’re gunna have to know how to put everything to use to complete the game on a difficulty like that. The game also looked really good. But that’s genuinely about when the positives end. Sora is awful. Just awful. I did not want to hear him utter another word. Absolutely nobody would like having this guy as a friend in real life. The cut scenes are so bad and full of filler that I was forced to miss actual information to the plot. Somewhere within these long cutscenes there would be a relevant piece of information, but in order to see that I have to time and time again listen to characters say ridiculous things over and over again like “let’s do it guys” while the camera pans over to each individual for them to nod their head in agreement and go “hmm”. It is so corny and cringe and it happens so much. Who did this? What were they thinking? Skipping the cut scenes allowed me to enjoy this game much more this time than during my first playthrough. Do yourselves a favor and just do not watch this crap. These pointless cutscenes are littered throughout the entirety of the game. There are moments where you’ll watch a cutscene, walk down a hall, and another cut scene will start. Wtf! The world choices were lame. It felt like Disney forced Square to promote and advertise Disney franchises that most KH fans really don’t care about. They were well done, but the things we grew up on are virtually non existent. Olympus is the only one that truly nails it. Nothing irked me more though than Sora, Rikku, and Kairi reuniting again. Like, this is what KH fans were waiting for, this is what it’s all been about, right? Wrong. It’s like nothing ever happened. They all reunite and it’s pretty much whatever and awkwardly glossed over. I was shocked. It’s like whoever wrote this stuff didn’t know what went on in the previous titles. The DLC was weak. It gives you some things to grind for and a run of repeat boss fights that are way harder - but for what? It’s just pointless. Overall as far as story content brought on by the DLC, it’s about an hour of running around connecting pieces of Kairi’s heart, and a little segment where all the characters work together in a fight. The DLC isn’t even one GB if that tells you anything. I bought it on sale only because the base game offered me very little to do end game. KH1 and KH2 were both better KH games. If 3 received that kind of attention and care those two titles did, it would blow them out of the water because the combat is SO GOOD. That’s all that kept me going. I loved fighting the enemies. I shut the attractions off just so that I could enjoy kicking their butts with my keyblade. Overall I have one final speculation about the turn out of this game. It reeks of corporate Disney. It took 13 years for this game to come out and I think it’s Disney’s fault. I don’t know what they did or how things all work in the background but I don’t blame SE very much about these downfalls. No Final Fantasy characters, Disney plots dominating the worlds unlike ever before, attractions thrown into the combat, and the way the KH plot line was cramped into the very end just tells me that SE’s hands were tied regarding what they could do versus what they wanted to do. It feels like they had to fulfill some kind of contractual obligations with Disney to make this all work and I hope they are free of it now. Assuming my speculations are true, Disney absolutely sucks for this. They ruined what could’ve been a great game and imo Square should scrap Disney from future titles as much as possible. Work out some rights for a few Mickey Mouse cutscenes where necessary as well as Donald and Goofy and take Kingdom Hearts down the Final Fantasy road. The franchise has nothing to lose by doing that at this point. I’m cutting this game some slack by giving it this rating and it’s based on my suspicions about what happened here. I can’t wait for KH4 - I think it’s going to be great. KH3 had amazing potential. They just need to build on it moving forward and toss the kid stuff out the window. Hoping Sora’s very normal shoe size in the new trailer (haha) is an indication of that. Expand

KINGDOM HEARTS III is a lot more demanding compared to the other releases here, and it understandably struggles to hit a locked 60fps out of the box on Steam Deck. With a bit of tweaking, that is possible though, and having native KINGDOM HEARTS III on a handheld with rock solid performance, is excellent. If you held off on the games on PS4 or Xbox One before, KINGDOM HEARTS III is a solid PC release that has no issues running on Steam Deck including its cut-scenes. I enjoyed my time revisiting it on the go.

For newcomers to the series, it’s a fantastic option because, obviously, you’re not gated by a hundred different consoles just to experience the story for yourself. For veterans of the series, it’s a great way to relive your childhood for the exact same reasons.

While the price might be asking a lot for a game that can now be purchased for significantly less on consoles - or even downloaded on Xbox as part of Game Pass! - whoever was in charge of the Kingdom Hearts III PC port has delivered not just a fantastic PC version of the game, but one that is sure to become the benchmark for Square Enix PC ports going forward - for good or ill.
