This game, familiar yet creatively unique, wonderfully delivers a level of enjoyment that you couldn't find in other AAA games. It's an incredible masterpiece.

One of the best games I have played: If you engage with it and take its hand, you are in for one hell of a ride. If you let it, it can be very immersive, and about a third of my 300h I spent just roaming around admiring the world. I am not good at writing reviews, but Warhorse is hella good at making experiences and memories.

I haven't been so enamoured with a game in years. It does have a steep learning curve, the the challenge kept me hooked. Even 40 hours into the game a band of peasants can still catch you off guard and kill you.

It plays amazingly, on the Steam Deck too.

The only negative is maybe the wonky but thematic save system, but other than that. Play this game!

I'll preface this review with a warning: this game is quite rough around the edges. Two years after release, there are still bugs that will cause the game to crash, conversations to freeze (turning into a somewhat hilarious staring contest at times), and--albeit rarely--equipment to disappear. These issues are amplified by the fact that you have to use a consumable item, Savior Schnappes, in order to save your game. To be fair, I will note that there is also the ability to Save & Quit, but this save disappears the next time you boot up the game.

In spite of all this, I've had a ridiculous amount of fun with KCD. it's extremely immersive, and there's a huge payoff when you finally "get" the combat and start countering your foes with relative ease. Spending time learning alchemy and the ability to read as early as you can will help, as the ingredients to brew your own game-saving Saviour Schnappes are relatively easy to come by and a later quest will damn near require at least some familiarity with this system. The potions you can create with it are the closest thing the game has to "magic", with potions that temporarily increase various stats, boost your health, or even allow you to see better in the dark.

I received Kingdom Come: Deliverance from a Humble bundle and frankly expected it to feel fairly generic, but I have found the historical aspect and absence of common fantasy tropes quite refreshing. There aren't very many RPGs quite like it in that respect, and it makes for a unique experience that pulled me in like few games have before. Overall, I would recommend KCD to anyone with an interest in the medieval era or open-minded fans of The Elder Scrolls and similar games.

Then the random guard attacked me for whatever reason (he first followed me for a while and then started to punch me). After I died, I found out that about an hour of my progress is gone, as the game doesn't save even on quests completion. Which is 'fun' and 'realistic' I suppose. I have like 2 hours after my job to play games. Do you actually think that it's a good idea to simply waste my time like that?! Ok, you're going for the realism. Then at least have consistent rules! Why some quests save your game and some don't? Why should I constantly check if my game was saved or not?!

Obviously, if you're fine with losing hours of progress here and there, buggy gameplay and overall lack of polish it's still might an interesting game for you.

First of all, I'm writing this review while I'm still in my memory right after finishing the game, if you don't want to read the whole thing, let me summarize directly: IF YOU LOVE OPEN WORLD RPG GAMES, I recommend you to buy one and try it while the price is reasonable.

Let's move on to the long part...
First of all, if you remember correctly, the game takes place in 1402 in a small medieval town called Skalitz. We are in this town as the only son of a blacksmith and do a few errands to begin with. During this 1-2 hour process, we complete the process by either doing legwork or escaping without taking much action. Then the village is raided and the story continues.
+ First of all, it took me 47 hours to finish the game as someone who only went through the main story, even if you think I'm a very clumsy or occasionally doing side quests, it doesn't have a structure that can be finished in 7-8 hours. For this reason, it will keep you busy for a long time.
+ The price is reasonable for a game that is considered partly new with DLC packs.
+ You can kill, knock out and rob everyone except the main characters in the game, I must say that I earn a lot of money by doing this; but other than that, NPC interactions are generally primitive. The general structure of the game seems to have already been released in 2010, because NPC intelligence and technologies at some points are very old.
+ THE GAME IS NOT OPTIMIZED. As someone who finished RDR2 on high settings, I was able to finish this game with normal settings, and still, the skin load distance and NPC count etc. There were too many shortcomings.
+ It turns into a walking simulation too much at some points, even if it has a fast travel feature, it is impossible to use it especially at the beginning of the game. Because you can only fast travel to the places you have discovered, you are also very likely to be ambushed because you are traveling like a villager on a horse and there are too many invaders in the area you are in.
Bandits don't take money from you like in Bannerlord, you die directly. Also, this has to do with the combat system, but I'll come to that later.
+ Stealth mechanics are usable and useful, but very annoying at some points; If the man in front of us cannot see us, in some cases, someone with his back may notice us and swoop down on us.
+ COMBAT SYSTEM! Even though the game's combat system is inspired by M&B, it is almost unique, it has a system that will lock you on the screen even in 1V1 battles.
If I have to summarize briefly, you can attack from six different angles, including 5 CUT, 1 STUD. When your enemies attack in the same way, you can block the attack at the appropriate angle, as in M&B, with appropriate timing. If you block in a special way just in time, you don't lose stamina by counterattacking, otherwise you have a chance to get injured and lose energy/stamina.
Also, there is only one lock on enemy in battles, so you can't cut someone with a two-handed sword by spinning in the air like in M&B. You have to use every movement carefully and control your energy. The use of spring is very difficult and in my opinion, extremely troublesome. I used it once in a while while I was on a horse to shoot the bandits running after me. Other than that, the mechanics of many melee weapons are the same anyway. So what are the pros and cons of this?
First of all, as I said, 1V1 battles are fun, but because you are locked into a single enemy, battles with many NPCs can be extremely painful. Although I have finished the game and have almost reached the "MASTER" level in sword wielding, I do not fight TRIPLE bandit gangs one on one. While locking on one, the others shoot from the side. This can cause a lot of trouble, especially in ambushes and collective wars.
Also NPCs are fighting really well, until the last 10 hours it was a very problematic activity to shoot 1V1 even with a city guard. If you are going to fight, I suggest you to try war weapons other than swords, especially for enemies with chains and iron plates. Even though I hit an armored enemy ten times with a good sword in my hand, his health is not reduced by half, and when he hits me with the mace three times, my character's shaft slips. Pay attention to this.

+ THE GAME ENGINE IS PROBLEM AND THE INFRASTRUCTURE IS OLD. Everything in the game, from NPC animations to combat and artificial intelligence, gives a 2010 vibe. Except for the CINEMATICS (which are really good). I can swear that there are 5-6 animations in the dialogues with NPCs. In addition, the number of NPCs is low in many areas and their artificial intelligence is problematic. Besides, as I said, optimization is very troublesome.

+ I have to say that the world is wide, I give your rights in this regard. Also, it's pretty good that every NPC doesn't spawn randomly and then disappear in a random place, everyone has a job and a house, and when you kill someone, their house is empty.

This is a realistic medieval adventure, which can also be defined as a hardcore first-person action rpg with stealth. Story-rich, historically accurate and no fantasy elements at all. A dream come true for many people.

    Briefly.
Pros: gameplay, medieval realism and aesthetics, open-world full of quests, story and character development.

    Cons: loading times.
At release this game had many problems, but all of them were fixed with patches.

    In detail.

This is an open-world non-linear game (except for the main quest), which lives by itself and looks beautiful. There is always a lot of options what to do and a good amount of interesting quests waiting for you here and there. You can do pretty much here, unless you die. And you will. So save often.
The main great thing is a big amount of quests in the world. Plus random NPCs on the roads. So you should accept all the offers NPCs give you to fully experience the game.

Combat system is great, it's doubtful at first and not easy to master, but if you spend a little time, you will find its pros. Still sometimes you can quite easily beat ordinary opponents one-on-one even without mastering combat, if you have some patience though. The problem is fighting at night as you can't see anything and your opponent doesn't care at all.

Also about combat - assassination (especially whith dagger) is imbalanced. It's too powerful, mainly because of AI irresponsibility and predictability.

The only bad thing is loading times everywhere - you have to wait just to speak to any NPC in the game, the same with loading textures, loading screens everywhere.

Save system may be uncomfortable for some people.

RPG system is old school - if you do something, you master it and level up. So if you fight a lot - you're becoming a better fighter not only because of your own experience, but your hero masters it with you. The same with speaking, bartering, cooking abilities and so on. Perfect in this.

Yes, I know that the game aims to create an unforgiving, realistic world that won't hesitate to put you in a headlock tighter than.. But the real reason I say that it fails at this is because the save has never been this potentially punishing. With change comes preference and by changing the save feature to a harsher system that is very unpopular by today's standards can be polarizing. It isn't too annoying to actually have this feature present, but with the Infinite Saves mod, the game not only becomes much less stressful, as before, when you were caught in combat unexpectedly, you would pray to god you would be able to run away. Now, you can work proactively instead of reactively and save either once every couple of times you fast travel, or more liberally as you desire. The game becomes much more free and as a result, more fun as you can spend less time conserving your saves and more time immersing yourself in the great design of the world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Most other parts of this game are very good and the low-budget charm is forgivable, in my opinion. The jank is mostly just irritating, the combat can be made less stressful by training with Captain Bernard for just a couple of (ingame) hours, and if the game just keeps kicking your ass no matter what, you can always look up a guide to get some sick loot. The game is so open and liberating that if you know where to get it and how, free loot is practically staring at your face throughout a solid--well--all major settlements and cities. Never wrote a review like this before, and sometimes I forget integral game mechanics and elements that change the final score, but if this game intrigues you, it might just do the same even after you start playing.

Upon the release the PC version is the only reasonable way to enjoy Kingdom Come. And there’s a lot to enjoy, because historically accurate Middle Ages are an awesome setting. The beginning of the game might not be spectacular, but give Deliverance a chance and it will develop into a unique, deep, gripping experience. [04/2018, p.42]

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a different kind. It's incredibly absorbing in its pace, it amazes with a manically detailed medieval era features and a totally true atmosphere, a series of skillfully built quests and, and when you get used to it, a fantastic combat system. There is a one-too-much cliché in the story arc, but the main problem lies in the technical issues. The game is, however, such a remarkable, huge, different and fresh experience that the occasional bug can be simply ignored.
