This game, familiar yet creatively unique, wonderfully delivers a level of enjoyment that you couldn't find in other AAA games. It's an incredible masterpiece.

One of the best games I have played: If you engage with it and take its hand, you are in for one hell of a ride. If you let it, it can be very immersive, and about a third of my 300h I spent just roaming around admiring the world. I am not good at writing reviews, but Warhorse is hella good at making experiences and memories.

I haven't been so enamoured with a game in years. It does have a steep learning curve, the the challenge kept me hooked. Even 40 hours into the game a band of peasants can still catch you off guard and kill you.

It plays amazingly, on the Steam Deck too.

The only negative is maybe the wonky but thematic save system, but other than that. Play this game!

I'll preface this review with a warning: this game is quite rough around the edges. Two years after release, there are still bugs that will cause the game to crash, conversations to freeze (turning into a somewhat hilarious staring contest at times), and--albeit rarely--equipment to disappear. These issues are amplified by the fact that you have to use a consumable item, Savior Schnappes, in order to save your game. To be fair, I will note that there is also the ability to Save & Quit, but this save disappears the next time you boot up the game.

In spite of all this, I've had a ridiculous amount of fun with KCD. it's extremely immersive, and there's a huge payoff when you finally "get" the combat and start countering your foes with relative ease. Spending time learning alchemy and the ability to read as early as you can will help, as the ingredients to brew your own game-saving Saviour Schnappes are relatively easy to come by and a later quest will damn near require at least some familiarity with this system. The potions you can create with it are the closest thing the game has to "magic", with potions that temporarily increase various stats, boost your health, or even allow you to see better in the dark.

I received Kingdom Come: Deliverance from a Humble bundle and frankly expected it to feel fairly generic, but I have found the historical aspect and absence of common fantasy tropes quite refreshing. There aren't very many RPGs quite like it in that respect, and it makes for a unique experience that pulled me in like few games have before. Overall, I would recommend KCD to anyone with an interest in the medieval era or open-minded fans of The Elder Scrolls and similar games.

Then the random guard attacked me for whatever reason (he first followed me for a while and then started to punch me). After I died, I found out that about an hour of my progress is gone, as the game doesn't save even on quests completion. Which is 'fun' and 'realistic' I suppose. I have like 2 hours after my job to play games. Do you actually think that it's a good idea to simply waste my time like that?! Ok, you're going for the realism. Then at least have consistent rules! Why some quests save your game and some don't? Why should I constantly check if my game was saved or not?!

Obviously, if you're fine with losing hours of progress here and there, buggy gameplay and overall lack of polish it's still might an interesting game for you.

First of all, I'm writing this review while I'm still in my memory right after finishing the game, if you don't want to read the whole thing, let me summarize directly: IF YOU LOVE OPEN WORLD RPG GAMES, I recommend you to buy one and try it while the price is reasonable.

Let's move on to the long part...
First of all, if you remember correctly, the game takes place in 1402 in a small medieval town called Skalitz. We are in this town as the only son of a blacksmith and do a few errands to begin with. During this 1-2 hour process, we complete the process by either doing legwork or escaping without taking much action. Then the village is raided and the story continues.
+ First of all, it took me 47 hours to finish the game as someone who only went through the main story, even if you think I'm a very clumsy or occasionally doing side quests, it doesn't have a structure that can be finished in 7-8 hours. For this reason, it will keep you busy for a long time.
+ The price is reasonable for a game that is considered partly new with DLC packs.
+ You can kill, knock out and rob everyone except the main characters in the game, I must say that I earn a lot of money by doing this; but other than that, NPC interactions are generally primitive. The general structure of the game seems to have already been released in 2010, because NPC intelligence and technologies at some points are very old.
+ THE GAME IS NOT OPTIMIZED. As someone who finished RDR2 on high settings, I was able to finish this game with normal settings, and still, the skin load distance and NPC count etc. There were too many shortcomings.
+ It turns into a walking simulation too much at some points, even if it has a fast travel feature, it is impossible to use it especially at the beginning of the game. Because you can only fast travel to the places you have discovered, you are also very likely to be ambushed because you are traveling like a villager on a horse and there are too many invaders in the area you are in.
Bandits don't take money from you like in Bannerlord, you die directly. Also, this has to do with the combat system, but I'll come to that later.
+ Stealth mechanics are usable and useful, but very annoying at some points; If the man in front of us cannot see us, in some cases, someone with his back may notice us and swoop down on us.
+ COMBAT SYSTEM! Even though the game's combat system is inspired by M&B, it is almost unique, it has a system that will lock you on the screen even in 1V1 battles.
If I have to summarize briefly, you can attack from six different angles, including 5 CUT, 1 STUD. When your enemies attack in the same way, you can block the attack at the appropriate angle, as in M&B, with appropriate timing. If you block in a special way just in time, you don't lose stamina by counterattacking, otherwise you have a chance to get injured and lose energy/stamina.
Also, there is only one lock on enemy in battles, so you can't cut someone with a two-handed sword by spinning in the air like in M&B. You have to use every movement carefully and control your energy. The use of spring is very difficult and in my opinion, extremely troublesome. I used it once in a while while I was on a horse to shoot the bandits running after me. Other than that, the mechanics of many melee weapons are the same anyway. So what are the pros and cons of this?
First of all, as I said, 1V1 battles are fun, but because you are locked into a single enemy, battles with many NPCs can be extremely painful. Although I have finished the game and have almost reached the "MASTER" level in sword wielding, I do not fight TRIPLE bandit gangs one on one. While locking on one, the others shoot from the side. This can cause a lot of trouble, especially in ambushes and collective wars.
Also NPCs are fighting really well, until the last 10 hours it was a very problematic activity to shoot 1V1 even with a city guard. If you are going to fight, I suggest you to try war weapons other than swords, especially for enemies with chains and iron plates. Even though I hit an armored enemy ten times with a good sword in my hand, his health is not reduced by half, and when he hits me with the mace three times, my character's shaft slips. Pay attention to this.

+ THE GAME ENGINE IS PROBLEM AND THE INFRASTRUCTURE IS OLD. Everything in the game, from NPC animations to combat and artificial intelligence, gives a 2010 vibe. Except for the CINEMATICS (which are really good). I can swear that there are 5-6 animations in the dialogues with NPCs. In addition, the number of NPCs is low in many areas and their artificial intelligence is problematic. Besides, as I said, optimization is very troublesome.

+ I have to say that the world is wide, I give your rights in this regard. Also, it's pretty good that every NPC doesn't spawn randomly and then disappear in a random place, everyone has a job and a house, and when you kill someone, their house is empty.

This is a realistic medieval adventure, which can also be defined as a hardcore first-person action rpg with stealth. Story-rich, historically accurate and no fantasy elements at all. A dream come true for many people.

    Briefly.
Pros: gameplay, medieval realism and aesthetics, open-world full of quests, story and character development.

    Cons: loading times.
At release this game had many problems, but all of them were fixed with patches.

    In detail.

This is an open-world non-linear game (except for the main quest), which lives by itself and looks beautiful. There is always a lot of options what to do and a good amount of interesting quests waiting for you here and there. You can do pretty much here, unless you die. And you will. So save often.
The main great thing is a big amount of quests in the world. Plus random NPCs on the roads. So you should accept all the offers NPCs give you to fully experience the game.

Combat system is great, it's doubtful at first and not easy to master, but if you spend a little time, you will find its pros. Still sometimes you can quite easily beat ordinary opponents one-on-one even without mastering combat, if you have some patience though. The problem is fighting at night as you can't see anything and your opponent doesn't care at all.

Also about combat - assassination (especially whith dagger) is imbalanced. It's too powerful, mainly because of AI irresponsibility and predictability.

The only bad thing is loading times everywhere - you have to wait just to speak to any NPC in the game, the same with loading textures, loading screens everywhere.

Save system may be uncomfortable for some people.

RPG system is old school - if you do something, you master it and level up. So if you fight a lot - you're becoming a better fighter not only because of your own experience, but your hero masters it with you. The same with speaking, bartering, cooking abilities and so on. Perfect in this.

Yes, I know that the game aims to create an unforgiving, realistic world that won't hesitate to put you in a headlock tighter than.. But the real reason I say that it fails at this is because the save has never been this potentially punishing. With change comes preference and by changing the save feature to a harsher system that is very unpopular by today's standards can be polarizing. It isn't too annoying to actually have this feature present, but with the Infinite Saves mod, the game not only becomes much less stressful, as before, when you were caught in combat unexpectedly, you would pray to god you would be able to run away. Now, you can work proactively instead of reactively and save either once every couple of times you fast travel, or more liberally as you desire. The game becomes much more free and as a result, more fun as you can spend less time conserving your saves and more time immersing yourself in the great design of the world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Most other parts of this game are very good and the low-budget charm is forgivable, in my opinion. The jank is mostly just irritating, the combat can be made less stressful by training with Captain Bernard for just a couple of (ingame) hours, and if the game just keeps kicking your ass no matter what, you can always look up a guide to get some sick loot. The game is so open and liberating that if you know where to get it and how, free loot is practically staring at your face throughout a solid--well--all major settlements and cities. Never wrote a review like this before, and sometimes I forget integral game mechanics and elements that change the final score, but if this game intrigues you, it might just do the same even after you start playing.

Hopefully there will be a second part that has more budget available and eliminates the weaknesses of the first part. Expand

This is mostly a good game, it is very unique and has good characters, world and story. Though there are some parts that are slow and boring.
I like that you aren't some overpowered special chosen one and start out just as a normal peasant.

I like that you aren't some overpowered special chosen one and start out just as a normal peasant.

Combat is sort of ok once you train and get used to it but it still feels clunky even when you get used to it. The auto lock on system is annoying and terrible if facing many enemies and I only found it decent when using potions when fighting multiple enemies.
The game defines itself as being realistic,
however being realistic shouldn't mean that it lacks quality of life. And when games lean towards realistic often it makes it less fun and more tedious and frustrating.
Such as can't pause during cutscenes which is annoying when it happens when the phone rings or my cat is demanding attention.
Even worse is the very limited save system. Especially as the game is poorly optimised and plagued with occasional crashing and freezing which is frustrating because of the limited save system.

This game is not polished enough and can often be buggy and glitchy and definitely can tell it's a indie game.
I've had bugs with some quests such as
I've had a bug when doing the bathhouse quest for Sir Hans after getting the wine and returning he was no longer at the bath house and instead was sleeping in his bed. I had to reload a previous save and do the quest again and this time it was ok.

This is a game that wont appeal to everyone. This is a game I like but not love as there are quite a few things I am not pleased with. Such as pacing of the game feels drawn out and everything take ages to do, you have to spend so much time practicing combat just to get better stats to be able to fight anyone adequately.
I recommend this game as I did enjoy playing it despite the bugs. I liked playing through most of the DLC's, only one I didn't like was a Woman's Lot as playing as Theresa was so tedious and is only worth it for the companion Mutt.
Overall it is a very unique game and worth playing if you can put up with the combat.

I expect a lot better for a game regardless of if it's indie or AAA.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a first person RPG set in a historically accurate world of medieval Bohemia. As you play this game, you might not feel it as such, but if you study medieval history at least a little bit, or if you visit the sites of the game in the real world, you will begin to understand that this game has achieved something extraordinary. But the historical accuracy is not the only thing that this game does well. The combat system is really great, you can really see and feel the progression that Henry makes with a sword, but you can also feel your own skill rising. The graphics is pretty, specially the weapons and armor look very nice. The character animations are not perfect, but you have to take into consideration that this game is not AAA. It was made on a limited budget with the initial funds coming from a kickstarter campaign. The game font is beautiful and makes reading a pleasure. Music is great and very atmospheric. The main story is interesting and non repetitive and you can clearly see the handwriting on Mr. Vavra in it. Same goes for the side quests, which is definitely something this game does better than most other RPGs. The regular difficulty is challenging enough, with the hardcore difficulty being a great bonus for a second playthrough. On the downside, this game really suffered from many bugs following its release. They fixed most of them within a year of release, but still it has to be said that the game was released pretty raw. The save system does not suit me at all. I fully understand what the developers meant to say by this, but it is just nothing for me. I like to save often. No microtransactions and no SJW crap in this game. i would expect nothing else from these developers.

    DLCs:

From the Ashes - First DLC for KC:D. This DLC allows you to build and maintain a village of Pribyslavitz as its Bailiff appointed by Lord Divish. There is a number a wasted opportunities here, this DLC is pretty short and your involvement in actually designing the village is really shallow. Overall I would expect this DLC to be at least twice as long and offer more involvement in building the village. Verdict: 62 %

The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon - Second DLC for KC:D. This DLC builds on already well written and funny relationship between and Henry and Hans Capon. It adds three relatively long quests, in which you need to help Hans in seducing a fair maiden from the town of Rattay. The level of writing is very good as usual. As with most DLCs you are paying quite a lot for not so much. Overall a nice addition to the game. Verdict: 73 %

Band of Bastards - Third DLC for KC:D. This time you become a part of a mercenary band that serves Sir Radzig Kobyla as you try to uncover a plot against him by one of his old rivals. This DLC introduces a bunch of new characters and of all the DLCs, this one offers the most conventional and traditional gameplay. Overall a good little addition to the story. Final Verdict: 68 %

A Woman's Lot - Fourth and last DLC for KC:D. This DLC is also probably the most unconventional one and the only one ( and the only moment in the entire game ), where you play as other characters. This DLC is split into two distinct section. In the first part you play as Theresa as she escapes the destroyed Skalitz. The second part is a conventional quest in which you ( as Henry ) need to help your friend Johanka with a myriad of troubles. This DLC offers the most chilling and possibly even dark content in the entire game. I like the Woman's Lot more than any of the previous DLCs. It is fitting that this DLC is the last one, it makes you want for KCD sequel even more. Final Verdict: 86 %

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a medieval life simulator that will take you back to a time, when Europe was still ( sort of ) alright. Final Verdict: 90 %

The fact that our main character did not know how to use a sword was also a well-chosen decision, as it is difficult to grasp the mechanics for the player. This makes you feel like you are one with Henry, learning and growing with him, which adds to the realism and immersion.

However, side missions are not too well made. The ending of the game feels rushed and has some minor bugs. Still, I couldn't stop playing the game until I finished it.

Wouldn't recommend it to people who like a game full of action and don't like realism (to the point where you have to sleep each day and eat consistently, which I really enjoyed.)

The AI will automatically counter your attacks and damage you based on your level, it has NOTHING to do with your own skill. There is an interesting mechanic where you can position your sword for directional attacks but that has NO bearing on the game at all, since the AI will block your attacks regardless, and there is a "Block Button".... a block button! Holy **** Why have a system where you position your strikes if you can block ALL attacks with a button! There's no flow!

The only way to win combat is to "perfect block" which you do by pressing the Q key when the opponent attacks, which blocks AND damages them, for free, every time. It's far too easy to win like this, it ruins the entire combat of the game.

Don't buy it. Do not. It's not worth your time. The devs also made it as difficult as possible for modders to attempt to save the game - the modding scene is dead, which means the game is dead.

I also heard that the game is "Hard" and "unforgiving" wich, in my opinion is not the best way to describe the game, in my first playthrough i barely had any complaints about the difficulty curve of the game, you just have to train enough with the Captain and you're set for some relaxing and fun bandit killing.
    Would definately reccomend

One of a kind medieval RPG with an enthralling story and very believable recreation of medieval Bohemia. The music sets the scene very well with a memorable soundtrack which changes as you travel between environments. The combat system does well to capture the feel of historically accurate sword combat which I look forward to seeing being developed even further in future instalments.

Fantastic game. It really fits the historical theme well, and it truly feels brutal at times. The history buff in me really appreciates the attention to detail - including castles and monasteries that look exactly like their real-world counterparts.

Anyone can create fantasy game stuff because its just about imagination, but to create something such close to historical events requires a lot more work and enthusiasm! This game score is underrated, should be at least one point highter than it is. Thank you and Good job developers!

An amazing game, with it's problems obviously, but you can easily see the love and hardwork it took for it to be made. It's not a AAA **** title.

Graphics: I playewd this since 2021, and although the graphcis are nowhere near next gen, they are amazing and beautifull for what they are, i rarely used fast travel because i loved to traverse this land holy ****

Combat: I'm a tipical casual Andy, who loves button mashing. As you can imagine it took a bit of time before i got used to this type of combat. I think it's ok, not amazing, they had a vision for what they wanted to do, and they tried their best at it. It's certainly distinctive from other games, but i most say i didn't have that much fun on it.

RPG: The amount of systems at play here... Holy **** the reading, eating, learning, sleeping, training, cleaning youself, dressing up, soo **** immersive!! AMAZING

Story: Nothing too crazy, at sometimes a bit boring, but overall it was fun and grounded to reality, leaving the door open for possible DLCs/Sequels. The part that broke me the most was the ending siege holy **** You can't put someone on an amazing sequence of events, going like 120km/h and than say "Stop, go gather 200 meat, 100 plants, check all these taverns, oh, and go get an engineer. ANd on top of all of that, all the next missions will evnvolve you having to wait several in game days to complete :)"
I get what they wanted to do, make people do other content while we wait for the main one, the thing is, if you get to this late stage of a game and still have a lot of side content to do, it«s because you probably don't want to do it, you just want to finish the story. Or, you made most of the other content already, and have nothing else to do.
Overall it was fun, but had its shortcomings

Every quest has a very, and I mean very, specific path or area you can roam in. The bush that is a meter away might seem like a good route to the goal, but..."you were killed by a stray arrow" again! Then again. And again. And again. So you realise the path is quite limited and try to stay within the designers boundaries. That might work. Oh....you were killed by a stray arrow. Again. Overall, I quite like the game. It's very realistic in some ways. Some say it is unforgiving. I'd agree. You can however learn most of what you need to know to pass each scenario after a few tries. Then you get killed by a stray arrow again, which actually means you went outside of the boundaries of that scenario by a few millimetres. Mostly a very good game with a lot of potential, but even with the ABC markers, it's not always clear what you should actually do or what the best way there is. Value for money, as you will have to spend hours doing almost the same thing again and again for one quest till you hit a save point. A lot of trial and error is involved. You will need a good game guide. Even then, it is a challenge almost every step of the way. I like it just a bit more than I hate it, and I have played for over 70hrs. Expand

Graphics are beautiful, story is compelling and combat is the most visceral you'll find, the creators actually having taken the time to engage Historical European martial artists to aid them in finding a realistic feel for the combat.

An amazing modern RPG that if slightly more polished, would give the Witcher 3 a run for its money. There's plenty to explore and see, many interesting side quests to engage with and a wonderful story to experience. The combat has a steep learning curve and the performance can be questionable at times but if you can get through those two issues you're in for a treat!

i could not put the game down, i kept playing, deep into nights even. the game was absolutely gorgeous and so much fun to play. the combat is tons of fun and i actually wish it were more challenging (once you learn riposte the difficulty kinda becomes zero unless you're fighting 3 or more people), the world is 1403 bohemia. yes, that's it. it's 1403 bohemia, did you expect me to say beautiful, living, breathing? **** no, the world IS LITERALLY 1403 bohemia. when you put that headset on, turn the lights off in your room, you are transported to 1403 bohemia.

Expand

The game stays true to history and does not impose any wokeness or political ideology (which is all too common today) on you, but is straight up a good classic RPG. It even teaches you about history.

The world feels harsh and real in many aspects and It was long times since I was as immersed in an RPG. The monastery anyone? (haha). It feels like the good old times when I was a kid and played Might And Magic 7 for the first time.

It's not an easy game and it has it's negative parts as well: really bad face animations, bugs, a super annoying saving system. Very linear. Meaning you do not have that much freedom to choose what you want to do. Loose ends in the story is never revisisted in many cases.
But for a game made with a whole new Indie company, as their first game. It really is a amazing.

    I firstly have to say well done to Warhorse for this, the time that was put into this game is unbelievable. Now for the main sections of the game;

Realism, now when it comes to realism of this game, their are some flaws, but very few, and very minor flaws, I have to say the realism that comes with this game is incredible, and the attention to detail that this game got is on another level. Now their is one minor issue if you are someone that likes to immerse yourself in a game, while the realism is incredible in this game, one issue that can take away from that immersion is the cut scenes throughout the game, while not bad or terrible, they are just too artificial to get that level of immersion that a lot of people look for in a game like this, though quite minor in comparison to the rest of the game, it is something.

Quests, now when it comes to the length of the game in general, I have to say I was quite impressed, the share number of side quests is incredible, I've put quite a lot of time into this game already, and I have admit, their are many side quests I've yet to do, and for the main quests, well they're another story, the share depth and length that some of these missions have are incredible, while some seem quite repetitive and some also seem quite tedious, the majority bring a lot of enjoyment.

Now for bugs and issues, I have to say their are surprisingly very little. In the hours I've put into this game, I've yet to come across and game changing, or major bug.

Graphics and Fluidity, now when it comes to the graphics, it's insane, I do have to point out though, that this game is extremely CPU and GPU intensive, and I would have to point out a few flaws when it comes to optimisation in relations to other titles, but in all it delivers a fluid and breath-taking experience.

In all, I would have to say it's an incredible game, and I would personally place it quite high on a list of all time favourites, most probably an A tier game, but if in relations to the recent array of games being released, well then this game has to be in the top 3 of recently released games. So if you're one of these people that have yet to play this masterpiece, you are seriously missing out. Yet another masterpiece by Warhorse Studios.

This game is truly a masterpiece.

In the past 20 years I have played mostly single player RPGs, ranging from Fallout 1 & 2, Torment, BG, IWD, Deus Ex, down to NWN, KoToR, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Witcher and the likes. But Kingdom Come is truly special. Apart from being a great RPG, the main thing that sets it apart from the others is its aspiration for authenticity and realism. You

You *are* Henry, a nobody in a historical setting of 1403 Bohemia, on a quest for revenge. It would have been an ordinary RPG were it not that the developers actually investigated medieval lore, combat and way of living. As you explore the world, tooltips pop up explaining events, places and society, which in turn incite you to read and learn more about history. Hence this is the first RPG I have ever played that actually has some educational value.

The uniqueness of this game is that it proves that one can make an AAA game and story without a fantasy setting and lore, but just by plugging it into our own history. I especially love this because I am from Europe, and the setting is part of my own history. But I would also love to see something similar plugged into a historical setting less known to me, such as Ancient China, Persia, Egypt or America.

This game is like a successful proof of concept for a RPG subgenre, and I really hope this game and the developers receive the recognition and support that I think they deserve. I congratulate and give them a straight 10/10.

And you who might be reading this and wondering whether to buy it: If you enjoy RPGs, challenging combat, compelling story and a rich world. Doubt no longer. This game has all that to offer you, and on top of all that I am sure you’ll learn something about Bohemia too.

This is a great game, the art style is great, the attention to detail is amazing, the way I can just get lost in this game for literally hours too, however, this game falls apart when you have to fight someone, well that's not true, the combat system is great, IF you're dueling someone, it falls apart like wet paper once you have to fight more than one person, which would be fine, if theThis is a great game, the art style is great, the attention to detail is amazing, the way I can just get lost in this game for literally hours too, however, this game falls apart when you have to fight someone, well that's not true, the combat system is great, IF you're dueling someone, it falls apart like wet paper once you have to fight more than one person, which would be fine, if the game didn't railroad you into fighting multiple people a lot, and I mean a **** tonne. Upon the release the PC version is the only reasonable way to enjoy Kingdom Come. And there’s a lot to enjoy, because historically accurate Middle Ages are an awesome setting. The beginning of the game might not be spectacular, but give Deliverance a chance and it will develop into a unique, deep, gripping experience. [04/2018, p.42]

A robust RPG deserves your attention not only for its domestic origin. You will easily forgive its smaller mistakes because of a great narration and a complex gameplay. [Issue#283]

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a different kind. It's incredibly absorbing in its pace, it amazes with a manically detailed medieval era features and a totally true atmosphere, a series of skillfully built quests and, and when you get used to it, a fantastic combat system. There is a one-too-much cliché in the story arc, but the main problem lies in the technical issues. The game is, however, such a remarkable, huge, different and fresh experience that the occasional bug can be simply ignored.
