    Graphically it is not brilliant but that way the game much more with the old classic platformers, the color palette is also vivid and very cartoonish. The controls are simple, sometimes chunky but the controller support is quite good comparing with other games I have played.
    I get some bugs, as I said in the beginning, doors that did not open and things I could not reach, but a simple restart from checkpoint or restart from main menu solved it.

    Overall is an enjoyable game and if the initial idea was to mimic the old platformer games of the 90's, they hit the fly. Fully recommend it, after all the normal price is a bargain!

    Compared to the first game, this game is awesome. It's not short, the levels are well designed and look really nice, there are multiple worlds to go through, voiced cutscenes etc.

    The gameplay is mostly similar to Rayman Revolution - in each level you have a set of collectibles that you can get and after you finish a level you get to play another one, the levels are linear and filled with checkpoints. Another similarity is that there is also a hub (called Dark Docks), from which you go to your adventures. By collecting stars and crystals, you can upgrade your abilities or open bonus levels (which are quite bad honestly).

    As in Kao 1, there are boss battles in this game and except for the final boss, all the fights are laughably easy with bosses often telling you strategies on how to beat them (yeah, it's true).

    The problems with controls and camera remain, though. During some chase sequences or slide moments it is not hard to notice that the controls are rather stiff and do not respond the way they should, making mostly the sliding passages largely annoying even though they'd otherwise be easy. Unfortunately, this game has a lot of gimmick levels in which you are supposed to either race/chase/run or use a vehicle so you'll feel the stiffness of the controls quite a bit. It reduces the overall quality of the game and the fun experience.

    The problem with this game is that even though it is nice and fun, the bad controls and a complete lack of originality (as this game manages to use elements from other platformers and combine them, however, makes them inferior to the ones found in their proper games) make this platformer not that good.

    I really like this game as i played it a lot as a child but i lost the CD.
    But as it was released on steam i played through the whole game in 1 day.
    All in all a great game to kill some time. Very nostalgic and surprisingly good music and level design. I would recommend this game to everyone that has a bit of time on their hand and some love for old 3D platformers. Only downside is

    Sweet platforming action and colorful levels make this game good. It's no Banjo-Kazooie, but it is a decent 3D platformer with collectibles and linear levels. Allows rebinding keys.

    Some voice acting is a bit wonky. Sometimes they will talk really fast or really slow, probably a translation issue. Some combat is a little choppy. Good game, received free, but the price of $2 is

    I'm sure this was at best an average 3D platformer in 2005, so in 2020....

    The controls are cumbersome in spite of the simplicity of the gameplay, bugs are numerous, the interface is inconsistent (from some levels you cannot go back to the hub, and if you leave the game it forces you to finish the level the next time) and the game is full of clipping problems and weird hitboxes.

    Don't buy.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a kid, I loved the first Kao The Kangaroo game. It had its charms like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. When the sequel came, I could not wait to play it and it did not disappoint me. Now that the game has been released op Steam, I had no choice but to play it again.

    Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2 feels quite different from the first game, mainly because of its animation style, I guess. You must save the animals once again from the evil hunter. To do this, you must complete four worlds with a different animal theme to proceed. In the end you beat the hunter, and everyone is happy.

    The graphics are nothing special, even for the time but the music and sound is actually quite good.

    The story and purpose are clear in the game but the voices of the characters that guide you trough it are a little bit robotic and awkward. But nothing to be complaining about.

    There is one complaint however, I do not know if this is because of the Steam port or what, but the controls in the sea levels are broken. You need to press the jump button in a calm motion to swim forward but instead of slowly swimming, Kao does not do anything. Only when you mash the jump button like a baboon something happens. Therefore, three levels where a complete chore to finish and killed some of the fun I had with the Steam release.

    But besides that, I just relived a part of my childhood and with the added achievements, it motivated me even more to finish it perfectly with all the collectibles.

    For the low price I would definitely recommend it.

    У лукоморья дуб зелёный;
    Златая цепь на дубе том:
    И днём и ночью кот учёный Всё ходит по цепи кругом; Идёт направо — песнь заводит, Налево — сказку говорит. Там чудеса: там леший бродит, Русалка на ветвях сидит; Там на неведомых дорожках Следы невиданных зверей; Избушка там на курьих ножках Стоит без окон, без дверей; Там лес и дол видений полны; Там о заре прихлынут волны На брег песчаный

    На брег песчаный и пустой,
    И тридцать витязей прекрасных
    Чредой из вод выходят ясных,
    И с ними дядька их морской;
    Там королевич мимоходом
    Пленяет грозного царя;
    Там в облаках перед народом
    Через леса, через моря
    Колдун несёт богатыря;
    В темнице там царевна тужит,
    А бурый волк ей верно служит;
    Там ступа с Бабою Ягой
    Идёт, бредёт сама собой,
    Там царь Кащей над златом чахнет;
    Там русский дух… там Русью пахнет!
    И там я был, и мёд я пил;
    У моря видел дуб зелёный;
    Под ним сидел, и кот учёный
    Свои мне сказки говорил.

    Kao the Kangaroo 2 combines the same generic gameplay we’ve seen time and time again and delivers it at a budget price during the tail-end of this generation of consoles.
