Jisei isn’t exactly what I was expecting. In some ways it surprised me but in other ways was a disappointment. It has a great story to it andJisei isn’t exactly what I was expecting. In some ways it surprised me but in other ways was a disappointment. It has a great story to it and had some good twists and turns along the way. I did find it very linear though. In the end you either solve the case or you don’t and there is only one way to get there. I don’t mind kinetic visual novels some times but I usually prefer the store page to list it as such so I can be prepared. The story, while good, could have used some more back story. It is never explained exactly how your ability works; how you got it; how long you’ve had it; etc. It was also hard to believe some cop would just let you question witnesses in that diner the whole time. I’m pretty sure this case will get tossed by a judge before it hits trial. The voice acting was well done. It isn’t full voice acting as not every character is voiced but the ones that are all did a good job. I was surprised the game even had voice acting as it is rare in the visual novel genre and this game is from 2010. The music was a little repetitive when it was there though. The art was alright; I have seen better and worse.

I played Jisei on Linux. It never crashed on me and I didn’t notice any spelling errors. The game did open on the wrong monitor and had to be manually moved over to my main monitor but that is a bug with the engine and not the game. Jisei uses the Ren’Py engine. The game allows you to manually save any time you want and has 48 save slots for that.

    Disk Space Used: 170 MB
    VRAM Used: 496-758 MB
    CPU Usage: 1-5 %
    RAM Usage: 2.2-2.7 GB

Overall it is hard to recommend Jisei. The story may have been fun but the game feels rushed and has little in the way of paths to choose from. It has a lot of holes in it and questions left unanswered by the short length. I finished my first play through in 68 minutes. I paid $8.63 CAD for it and while I would say that is fine for a game of this length the content didn’t really justify the price. There are other visual novels I could recommend for the same price or less.
