I’ve only spent a few hours in a pre-early access version but I’m extremely impressed. Apr 16, 2025InZOI had a strong start in its Early Access, but it will need to fight to stay relevant once the initial novelty wears off. For now, it feels like there's more style than substance. The game needs to develop a unique value proposition and move beyond comparisons to The Sims. While both share a similar philosophy, their approaches are fundamentally different. We don’t believe InZOI is “the Sims killer” — at least not yet — but we also don’t think it needs to be. Mar 20, 2025InZoi, then, has been a bit of a disappointment so far. Its good bits – the slick presentation, the expansive customisation, and the simple pleasures of tootling around in such richly detailed worlds – are continually undermined by the void where a bit of virtual humanity should be. But even so, I can't deny there's something here; a solid systemic foundation that feels ready to be tuned and finessed into a far more interesting game – and that, of course, is precisely what early access is for. There are other questions still to be answered that could make the difference between a long-lasting legacy and a short shelf life – how Krafton plans to introduce monetisation after early access, for instance, or whether InZoi can generate enough enthusiasm to support the kind of dazzlingly rich modding scene that's helped sustain The Sims for so long. Mar 20, 2025Even in early access, InZOI is a serious competitor to The Sims. It has the incredible potential to grow into something that one day even exceeds EA's long-running life sim franchise, with highly-detailed worlds and a lot of clever little details that give the game a certain "wow" factor that has been missing from its inspiration for some time. There is certainly still room for improvement, but it mostly lives up to the hype and, if InZOI's roadmap is any indication, the game is only going to get better from here.

Though I know more items and cosmetics are headed to the game and that there's plenty of time and potential for its developers to focus more on the game's social aspects, as it stands right now gameplay isn't enjoyable and I worry that InZoi won't place as much importance on its social-simulation aspects as I'd prefer. Though I'm opting to remain hopeful, after spending a few dozen hours with InZoi--and despite my absolute delight at getting the opportunity to review a game I have been eagerly waiting to play since its announcement--I've come to the conclusion that I most likely won't pick it up again until it's spent far more time in development. It's a gorgeous game with a best-in-class character creator, but doesn't provide anything amounting to a fulfilling life for its Zois, who largely exist to eat, sleep, and go to work. Mar 20, 2025inZOI is by no means perfect, but it is impressive. It’s Early Access launch is a mish-mash of unfinished ideas and engaging mechanics, and I am at least still finding little surprises 30 hours in. The character creator and build mode are already complex and relatively user-friendly, and the Karma system is a clever way to introduce drama into the world, but inconsistent behaviours across its uncanny locations and conversation topics don’t put those good ideas in the best light. What inZOI offers right now is an enticing slice of something that could eventually be great, and it’s worthwhile enough if your main interest is curating realistic dioramas to pose your custom Zois in like dolls. However, if you're looking for the moment-to-moment depth of something like The Sims, you’ll need to let Krafton keep cooking for some time yet. [Early Access Review Score = 60]

Aug 20, 2025InZoi is a life simulation game with impressive graphics that is getting a new setting with numerous new features and improvements in the Island Getaway update. In addition to new furniture, building functions, outfits, hairstyles, and even pools, new features such as snorkeling, gardening, mining, and crafting provide you with new opportunities to give your Zoi a personality and shape their everyday life. A lot of the time, however, variety still prevails over depth. [Early Access Score = 70]

Mar 20, 2025In this first version released in Early Access, inZOI reveals itself to be an ambitious project, rich in innovative ideas and with undeniable potential. The graphics are stunning, and the character creator and the build mode are already very enjoyable to play. However, the game also highlights significant shortcomings, both technically and conceptually. The artificial intelligence lacks substance, and the open world, despite its size, is desperately empty and not very interactive. Social relationships, the pillar of life simulations, suffer from enormous inconsistencies and bugs that mar the experience. We can only believe in the promise of continuous improvements, supported by a detailed roadmap, which suggests a brighter future. In its current state, inZOI is a (very) rough diamond, even an unbaked cake that we can't wait to taste, but much later. [Early Access Score = 65]

Mar 20, 2025inZOI is an ambitious attempt to topple Maxis’ empire, but in its current form it’s not really exciting enough to pose a threat to it. The use of generative AI is unpleasant, the actual gameplay is too slow paced, and there’s just a lack of charm in the world. Mar 20, 2025Honestly, I would have preferred Krafton give this game even more time to cook. It almost feels like I'm playing pretend at playing pretend right now—engaging with a variety of set pieces I can do a cute peace sign in front of before moving onto the next thing. In an attempt to offer something different to The Sims, Inzoi has failed to establish any sort of identity of its own. I'm not even sure Krafton knows what direction it wants to take right now, but it needs to figure that out quickly, otherwise I fear it'll be another casualty of the genre. [Impressions]

The real test of whether InZoi will reign as the life sim king will come with time, as long as regular updates happen and Krafton delivers on the promise of all it has in development. Mar 20, 2025I’m really happy with the features that are available in inZOI right now and I’m really looking forward to what will be added in its future. Right now, I hope the developer can resolve some of the more basic but key features such as more hair styles and presets for body characteristics. This is a really charming game (fluffy cats and their ability to help aside) and I’ll be coming to inZOI very often over the coming months for further impressions and to follow the game’s progress. If you’re a life simulation fan, you’ve got to try out inZOI [Early Access Impressions]
