    Better than Battlefield, COD, and Counter strike. This might be hard to believe, but it's true. Insurgency missions are tactical, realistic, but not overly complicated or requiring a million unlock achievements. There are lots of servers and players, and it all works fast and smooth as silk. The feel of game play is something close to perfect and I just love playing it.

    One of the best tactical FPS games since red orchestra 2. Interesting and unique game modes, exceptionally rewarding gunplay. I would NOT recommend this game to people who only like really arcadey shooters like CoD and BF.

    Insurgency is a very good shooter, like the Mod! It´s simple in menu and waepons building! the graphic is awesome, nice gameplay & nice Maps!!! The new night Modus is very nice! I played a lot of time in Insu1 but i will this game a Long time, too! So Play it and you will see what i mean!!!

    What is awesome about this game - it's so freaking scary when you in shootout. Great sounds and mechanics. Luck of community but I hope its a temporary

    Simply AWESOME. A true back to basics shooter. Very tactical. I played through early Alpha all the way to release and have been very impressed with the devs and the progression of the game. A ton of thought has gone into the layout and feel of the game. 10 out of 10 from me. I can't stop playing.

    It's a very tactical team-based shooter. Reminds me of the old school Rainbow Six games without the map waypoint strategy. The strategy happens real-time between players over the in-game VOIP system. You die and you're out. Your only chance at a respawn is your team mates making it to the next objective, else you all start at the beginning of the mission again.     The maps are well designed and very immersive with numerous routes to objectives.

    The AI is incredible! During my first game, I thought I was playing against players who were online. I also love the way the AI increases in number and difficulty as more players join your squad.

    The graphics are good enough and give a great all-round, authentic experience. Night missions are fantastic and very challenging.

    The surround sound with a gaming headset is awesome. One is able to spatially place sounds around one's self while playing, particularly moving enemies.

    I bought Insurgency during a sale a few years ago and it has become my favorite game. This is the game I've played the most in my library because it combines realism with fun gameplay mechanics. Definitely worth the price even when not on sale (currently $15 USD). The developers (NWO) continue to release free updates even longer after it was first released.     Easily one of the best FPS games for a long time. If your an FPS fan and you dont own this game you are missing out.
    This game is unforgiving, very team based and will leave you screaming at the screen but when things go well oh it feels good!

    I bought it on sale for 2 euros and man it was a good buy. The game is just amazing and very immersive. All content is free, no cash grabing payable DLC content and no microtransactions. Game play is amazing, very realistoc and satisfying. Tons of weapons, great community, lots of gamemodes, customization etc. Interface is minimal and that is a good thing.     Finally a developer that listens and interacts with the community. Dedicated servers, Map tools and built on the Source engine so modding is supported as well. Game play is challenging but not frustrating. The Coop mode is exceptionally fun with a group of friends.

    Insurgency takes the good elements of more realistic and tactful games like Arma and Red Orchestra 2 and removes the massive maps and endless walking, delivering a fast-paced, intelligent FPS game unlike anything in the market. NOTE: Do not be afraid to buy this on 2017, the community is still pretty active and will remain so until the sequel, Insurgency: Sandstorm, is released in 2018.

    Free DLC, no pay-to-win add-ons. Realistic mechanics. Devs constantly improving and updating game without charging extrs. Great community. Most of my steam friends come from this game. This is a huge middle finger to AAA companies.

    This is THE BEST multiplayer only first person shooter i have ever played. I loved it years ago as a mod (and still do), and i love it now in early access. The way it plays is completely original with the fun and intense game modes that just don't exist in any other games. If you find a good squad (and team) the game gets really fun and intense.     This game is exactly what I've been looking for in a shooter. It plays like a mix of the tactical realistic shooter like Arma and the first call of duty modern warfare. Perfect for some who wants more realism that the run around and shoot COD/Battlefield games and the slow moving ultra realistic Arma.

Gun mechanics, hit boxes, ballistics, sounds, and maps have all been polished quite nicely. The level of immersion you will feel while playing the game is incredible, and you will be provided with many tense moments while playing. Whether it's the RPG beingA fantastic FPS with heavy leanings on stressing realism. First thing to note, the pace of the game and firefights feel just right. Whether it's the RPG being fired from a distant spot in the map, or the sound of your comrade screaming as he's being shot at, you'll find yourself doing whatever it takes to stay alive because you'll truely fear for your life.

    Insurgency doesn't BS you by making you level up guns to unlock attachments. Everyone gets an allocated amount of supply points to modify their loadouts freely, at spawn. Want a optic site? You got one. Want to carry a molotov instead of grenade? You got it. Want heavy armor? Sure. You pick your own loadouts based on your preferences. This adds a tremendous amount of variation in the loadouts that you can create.

    Overall, this is one of the better realism FPS shooters. The learning curve for new users can be considered steep, but this makes it all the more satisfying when you do finally get the hang of things. Well worth the price.    … Expand

    I put around 250 hours into the game so far. I started back in the early access in March of 2013. The game has progressed into the best shooter I have ever played. It makes me keep coming back for more. This is a hardcore shooter that has filled the void that other modern shooters haven't been able to fill.

    Best FPS of all time. Graphics are not the best one, but the gameplay is much more superior than COD or BF. Every mod in this game is just awesome, no abusives respawns. 10/10

    The different game modes offer a very enticing and exciting game play that sets it apart from games such as Call of Duty.     Insurgency is one of the best games I have ever played. The graphics might not be stunning but the gameplay is. It brands itself as a tactical and realistic shooter, and it is. I have 200 hours into this game so far and don't regret one second of it.

    Unique, different, fun, cheap, overall great game. Bugs need to be worked out but thatll come with time. I love playing with friends, besides the few ragers in the game, its rad!

    It is very difficult to put down in words what makes INSURGENCY so great, and once you start to try to list all those smaller things that add up to the greatness you are afraid that you will forget so many things leaving the reader with an inaccurate description of the game.

    Most games are just games or just experiences. INSURGENCY is a game and an experience at the same time.

    Worth once to play this game and other games seem like child's play. Gameplay, control, balance, graphics and music is praiseworthy. The developers managed to achieve a special feeling in the game when really afraid to die.

    such experience dont hesitate just go for it. CoD-BF and other fps are just time-wasters in front of this.     The best tactical shooter i have played in recent years. The gameplay is balanced really well. Weapons recoil fells good. Maps are nicely designed and action is intense. Great alternative for casual games like COD and BF.

    Excellent tactical gameplay mixed with realistic weapon and movement mechanics make for a one of a kind FPS experience. Still rough around the edges in terms of presentation and polish, but the core game is easy to recommend.

    + Community (growing number)

    - Balance issues (kind of natural for the state of the game)
    -- Minor tweaks, bugs (still, a natural defect but worth mentioning)
    --- Missing features, such as a more informative UI at the round start. I also consider that the game could benefit from a more warm in-game interaction with players, WITHOUT changing the gameplay.

    The game brings me the thought-to-be-forgotten feeling of actual competitive gameplay. It bring back the hope that not all current games spoon-feed you and treat you like an idiot. This is not a simulation though, but I regard it as one the current best point on the arcade - simulation axis. It is not "tacticool", it is a game that requires a vast attention span, good headphones and skill if you wish to play it at a tactical level.

    All in all, If you think about having second thoughts towards buying this game, ABANDON THEM. DO NOT FEAR THE "Early access/WIP" labels ! This game is one of the few that really aims high and is not a money-grab!

    If at least ONE person takes my advice and is happy with the game I'll be happy. This game needs good people to make it an even greater game that it is. A solid future is ahead of it, but don't think that the game is now unfinished.

    Insurgency is by far one of the best FPS games I have played in the last 5 years because it is fresh and new, while at the same time familiar. The gameplay and gun mechanics are spot on and very satisfying. The sound effects in the game are highly realistic, to the point getting fired at and suppressed can cause a response in YOU. Elevated heart rates can often occur. Pretty cool. When youInsurgency is by far one of the best FPS games I have played in the last 5 years because it is fresh and new, while at the same time familiar. The gameplay and gun mechanics are spot on and very satisfying. The sound effects in the game are highly realistic, to the point getting fired at and suppressed can cause a response in YOU. Elevated heart rates can often occur. Pretty cool. When you achieve a frag it feels more like a victory than a simple frag like in most games. Teamwork and thinking are rewarded over Rambo tactics, but the gameplay is not in any way slow. Suspenseful corridors, amazing suppression effects and useful attachments that actually modify/enhance the way you play. Gameplay takes the look of CS:GO, and improves upon it, then adds guns that actually do damage, and incorporates the strategy of MW2 hardcore search and destroy/domination (etc.) with red orchestra 2/rising storm. At 15 bucks, you can't go wrong! New World Interactive has pure gold with this title and it is my go-to game, often winning out even over Dota 2.     This game is a realistic shooter with team based combat like in Counter Strike, and realistic movement and gun handling similar to arma. The graphics are nice but nothing special and the game itself runs smoothly. Combat is very skill based, players used to games like call of duty will find it very unforgiving. The current player base is small but quickly growing with mature supportive players.

This game actually makes you think quiet seriously how to slice the pie of doors and windows, forces you to consider the tunnel of death, and silhouette, and finnaly, Teamwork makes the Dream work, when you enter a scene on CS, there are 2/3 points of entryYou take a little bit of Counter-Strike, A lot of Red Orchestra/Rising Storm, and the smallest spec of ARMA, and you have Insurgency. This game actually makes you think quiet seriously how to slice the pie of doors and windows, forces you to consider the tunnel of death, and silhouette, and finnaly, Teamwork makes the Dream work, when you enter a scene on CS, there are 2/3 points of entry and exit and up to around 5-6 for visual spots, ARMA, you have a full 360 degree to maintain, while RO/RS amount of windows and doors, see spots, and entry exit spots are around the same in Insurgency. You really need a mic and headphones or you are in for trouble. Teammates need to cover your weak sides, and you should really communicate with your team on attacking known enemy locations, I am on the right side of the door I am looking left your on left looking right I am going to run in, you watch my back. But be careful 3D audio makes it where lintel can be taken but false lintel can confuse the enemy, plus I love shouting into the mic Allah Akbar as terrorist in a gunfight where the enemy can hear me and perchance miss his few key shots. It is so pleasurable to duck into cover have thenm blow 15/20ish shots and then slide out to the other side crouch lean out and fire 2-3 to end it, it gives me so much enjoyment, my heart races like going 100 MPH or being on a roller coaster. I have been in so many close calls, I have been utterly destroyed countless times, and I have destroyed the enemy quiet regularly with 9 KD or 7 KD I love it.… Expand

    So realistic and fun. A can guarantee you this is far more better than Battlefield and COD. With developers hard work, both on map making and game play balancing, you get a prominent game experience . In addition, all DLC are free.

    Don't write this off as just another fps.

    Pros:
    -Great weapon handling, ballistics, etc.
    -Tactical teamwork centric gameplay.
    -Surprisingly good soundtrack.
    -Red Orchestra with modern day firearms.

    Fantastic game and my new favorite FPS. I haven't played BF4 or CS:GO since I bought it. It could use a few updates (ability to save loadouts for example) but as far as gameplay, teamplay, and overall fluidity go, it's a 10/10.

One of many reasons I love this game is "Its more tactical and less typical FPS-COD crap". It makes you think first then act. Its all about teamwork and disciplined game play.     A fantastic indie FPS. Imagine if Counterstrike and Arma 2 had a baby and you get this title. It brings a deep and hardcore tactical experience while staying accessible to the less "hardcore" gamer. While Red Orchestra 2 has a heavy learning curve that took me weeks to finally master, Insurgency was like putting on a pair of worn shoes.     Awesome game if you want to be in the middle of COD and Arma. It's realistic but not to realistic to be boring. On public it can be a hectic place with a lot of new players that just haven't really grasped the consept yet.

    As I am currently also playing the Ladder and the Cup I can tell you the competative aspect of Insurgency is although in the early stages verry promising. The opening    Awesome game if you want to be in the middle of COD and Arma. It's realistic but not to realistic to be boring. On public it can be a hectic place with a lot of new players that just haven't really grasped the consept yet.

    As I am currently also playing the Ladder and the Cup I can tell you the competative aspect of Insurgency is although in the early stages verry promising. The opening cup has just been played on ESL and there are more and more clans flocking to the competative ladders/cups.

    Insurgency has become by far my favorite FPS. I have Battlefield, CoD and CS but I quit playing them since I downloaded this game. What I love about it is that it is very tactical and an awesome multi-player. This game is very realistic in the sense that you would see the gun behave as you would in the real world, the recoil is just too real.     I'd like to throw in my vote to Insurgency, which strikes a beautiful balance between Counter-Strike and Ghost Recon for me. I'm getting long in tooth, so pure arcade skills need to be balanced with tactics these days, and this game fills that gap.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really good tactic shooter game. You can see this game as a perfect son of ARMA and CS GO. It's difficult but at level that makes you addicted to it (like darksouls difficult) because of its realistic
    For 10$ you can own a game that surpass 90% AAA shooting right now, contain 149 maps with 5 modes and full support of mods.

    I'm with Fr4ntic on this, I just made an account to give this game a 10. It is really really good. It feels very realistic and doesn't get old. The devs are doing a great job of adding content and refining the game. I almost didn't buy this game but I'm glad I did as it is my favorite fps. I didn't even bother buying COD for the first time in years. If I could I would give it an 11.

    By far, one of my favorite games due to it's tactical yet fast-paced gameplay, free-aiming mechanics, and INTENSE sound! The developers can disappear every once in a while (they have lives outside of INS in most cases) but it's nice to hear from them and get free content every once in a while.

    This game caters towards semi-casual to hyper-hardcore gamers. Insurgency in my opinion, has a bit of morbid humor to it. I can get super sweaty when trying to hold a capture point when I'm the only person left alive, or I can laugh my ass off when my teammate yelps as he's shot in the face. Best of both worlds!

    Insurgency is a game with a small community, which I love. You can hop into a random match, and recognize half of your teammates since you played with them last week. There is a little mic spam, and people yelling "ALLAHU AKBAR" before each match, but it only makes it a bit more immersive.

    The dev's are active. Recently, they added another free DLC which contains a proper nightmode.

    I'm giving it a 10. Not just because I enjoy this game, but because anyone else can as well.

    I paid $15 for the game in January, it was worth it then. As of right now, it's still $15.
    Also, it's made on the Source engine, meaning it'll run on a TI-84 (not really, but almost)

    If you like FPS's at all, then skip going to Subway for lunch tomorrow, and get this game instead.    … Expand

The first steps into this game are brutal and hard to climb - thanks to the 2 bullet kill and the most minimalistic HUD I have ever seen in any First Person Shooter - , but as soon as you learn how to move, how to shoot (single-shot mode usually) and how to play with your team to win the objective Insurgency starts to shine with its intense firefights.
    If you are tired of using the same gun over and over just to unlock fancy scopes, silencers or camos, then go play Insurgency. The game gives you the full arsenal of guns directly at the start of the game - They are bound to different classes. Teamplay is guaranteed by the 2-Squad system consisting of multiple different classes - Every class feels unique.
    Insurgency is a game for casual and experienced players. Get to know a wide variety of guns, maps and game-modes, including multiple Coop mode versus Bots.

    NO SPOTTING, NO HIP-FIRE CROSHAIR NO MINIMAP, NO KILLCAM, NO HEALTH METER, NO HIT /KILL NOTIFICATION, NOT EVEN AN AMMO COUNTER.
    it really forces you to trust your instincts and your teamates due to the lack of information.
    It feels so rewarding to confirm a kill or win a game.

    I bought this game when it was on sale during late 2014. Other than ghost recon, this game was the first shooter I ever got. I would say I am pretty good at the game, and despite the fact I don't have much experience with FPS. This game is a good first FPS for anyone thinking about trying the genre.     I have bought this a few months ago, I have a total of 120 hours of playing on steam, and I still play this.
    I really like that the game is a little bit realistic, it is more fun and makes the game more strategic .

    IMO simply the best FPS I have come across. I have been playing airsoft and paintball for more then 10 years now and in this game the same tactics and strategy is useful as in the reality.     pros:
    - very realistic - very rewarding to kill enemies - Its mostly about teamwork - very well created weapons looking and feeling like the actual firearm - lots of pvp gamemods and bots - sniper rifles and lmg work like they should, optimised for real long engagents and actual fire support respectively - wide    This is one of the best fps games you can play today. here are some:

    What is the next? we gone a have a new version in 2017 called "Insurgency sandstorm" whit unreal engine 4 and history or campaign.

    The devs have been fantastic offering only free DLCs with a lot of new gamemodes, maps and accessories. The games keeps improving.

    If you loved the Swat series and the first Ghost Recon, Insurgency seems a bit like a mix of the two, with a bit of CS thrown in.

    *Steam Workshop integration is AMAZING.

    There's room for many different play-styles, I my self am successfully able to run and gun, but then, if need be switch fire modes and peck off a sniper, if he hasn't seen me first. So if you want a tactical FPS with smoke grenades and fire modes, but don't want to get repeatedly killed by aircraft, exploded by personal UAVs or somebody with a mortar, then this is for you.

    I imagine it is fairly easy to run on most computers, but it could use prettier graphics.

    A friend of mine gave me this game in 2014 and it was sitting on my steam library for months as I was busy playing COD Modern Warfare. After so many annoying encounters with trolls and kids that just mic spamming, i took a long break from FPS game. I then tried Insurgency just out of curiosity, and boy I was impressed with the game play. Out of my 500 plus games in my steam library,A friend of mine gave me this game in 2014 and it was sitting on my steam library for months as I was busy playing COD Modern Warfare. After so many annoying encounters with trolls and kids that just mic spamming, i took a long break from FPS game. I then tried Insurgency just out of curiosity, and boy I was impressed with the game play. Out of my 500 plus games in my steam library, Insurgency, the game that I got for free, has become the most played game with 1800 plus hours on it. Through out the time, I tried other shooting game like Battlefield 3 and 4, Modern Warfare 2, but the guns and recoils in those games don't feel right anymore.

    I think many negative feedback on the game is because people were playing it like they were playing COD or Battlefield where you can run and gun. This game meant to be played tactically with your team mates / other players.

    The PVP was good although I enjoy the Co-Op better. So I can't say much about the PVP. There are 4 different co-op modes, haven't played much of the other modes, but CHECKPOINTS mode is by far has the best gameplay I had on this game.

    In Checkpoints mode: As a team, you need to capture checkpoints and defend them from counter attack by bots. The process of taking the checkpoint is not easy, you have to battle through crazily accurate shooter bots that will RPG you the second you bunch up like scared little kids with your team mate. So you have to play it tactically and move as a team. If you try to play it Rambo style, you will end up getting killed really fast and you will have to wait until the rest of your team capture the next checkpoint, then you will re-spawn. This game meant to be semi realistic where there is no crosshair to help you aim, you need to bring up your gun and use the iron sight to shoot. You can shoot from your hips but like a real gun when you shoot from hips, you don't know where the bullet will go. You can have some sort of crosshair by attaching laser pointer on your gun if you prefer. When you play this game, try and find a good server with active Admin on it, although this game doesn't have as much cancer player as other shooters (kids that will troll the game and spoil the fun), but with the present of Admin will assure you will have fun time as long as you play it by the rule set by the server host / admin (ie: wait for team mate, no mic spamming, etc). If you are not sure how to play this game, ask around in the game. Most player are adults that will be happy to help and give you direction on what to do and what Not to do.

    In conclusion, give this game a try and put a bit effort to learn the mechanics and the game objectives and I am sure you will have fun time with it.    … Expand

If your wounded then things go fuzzy and disorienting for a moment, then your health stays at the damage taken until you get hit again and die.     Minor quibbles which knocked it down to a 9/10: - victims of non-lethal hits to the torso should realistically suffer somehow (e.g. getting knocked down, severe slow-down or suppression effects, etc.) - need to quickly see the    Red Orchestra 2 and CS:GO had a baby named Insurgency and he's growing up fast! There are roles on your team you select when joining a server which determine what main weapons you can select. People are generally friendly and helpful to new players.

    Game has PvP multiplayer and PvE co-op modes. In co-op, players have to complete objectives while dealing with AI enemies. On higher difficulty settings, the AI is pretty competent, very accurate, and very trigger happy. The co-op modes are a lot of fun and are not simply tacked on modes. Tons of fun with friends.

    My only complaint is the game seems to suffer from poor performance even on higher end systems. Tweaking settings to get consistent frame rates seems silly since it's using the Source engine but that's what I had to do.    … Expand
