Insurgency: Sandstorm isn’t the prettiest shooter of 2018, but the places where it excels are the places that matter most. Its gunplay is superb, its arsenal is exemplary, and the maps and modes are serviceable enough to facilitate its memorably frantic and immersive FPS combat.

Somehow in this most well-travelled of multiplayer FPS paths, Insurgency: Sandstorm feels fresh and innovative at every turn.

Insurgency: Sandstorm’s slower, more realistic approach likely won’t win over any Call of Duty fans, but then again it’s not really trying to. Sandstorm was made with a very specific type of player in mind, and if you fit that mold you’ll likely get dozens if not hundreds of hours out of the game. And even if you don’t fit that mold completely, there are enough ancillary incentives to make Sandstorm an excellent pick-up-and-play game, especially if you have some friends to recruit.

Overall, Insurgency: Sandstorm has very few bugs, improved graphical quality, a new game engine, and a large array of weapons to use in battle.

Insurgency: Sandstorm may be spartan, but its limited package can still deliver memorable moments.
  6. Dec 27, 2018

A very good game that needs some amount of balancing and polishing to really shine.
  7. Feb 18, 2019

Insurgency: Sandstorm feels like a shoddy HD remaster of the original game rather than a full-fledged sequel, complete with annoying performance drops, popping up textures and bland map design.

Very competitive hardcore FPS. It is a steal at 1/3 of the price of most "AAA" shooters.

This is by far the best FPS experience I've ever had. The most convincing battlefield atmosphere.

The game is fairly well balanced, no weapon truly excels over another. The AI in recent times has either gotten a well needed improvement, or I've gotten **** at the game. The game's performance is fairly wonky on a PC running a Ryzen 5 CPU and a GTX 1660, averaging at 60FPS @ mid/high settings 1440p.

All in all though, it's a real fun game and the multiplayer combat is very amusing with voice chat enabled.

Insurgency Sandstorm is a thrilling game with gun mechanics that discombobulate the player which creates great tension in the gunfight.

Not able to review this for PS4 so I will drag the PC score down until I can: this game has been out 3 years on PC, it’s become quite apparentNot able to review this for PS4 so I will drag the PC score down until I can: this game has been out 3 years on PC, it’s become quite apparent that PC footage was used to sell the PS4 version as the PS4 Day one version in no way looks like or has the fidelity of the PC version. It’s a stuttering, Tearing un optimized mess on day one, a new developer I would give a by ball but this is a 3 year old game and it looks and runs like a PS2 game with the graphics of MGS 1. Lets run down the list of issues this scummy developer thought they would get away with: No Hit Detector, No Kill Detector, A weird marker for friendly’s that appears to the side of them and at some distance from them, a broken comms system where enemy conversations can be heard, screen tearing, lack of any anti-aliasing, Lack of HD graphics, this things running in standard def, lack of textures, broken load out system that fails to remember saved load outs, Lack of progress markers, lack of round information, lack of scoring system, an extremely low draw distance, a gutted game mode system, no vehicles, pop in everywhere, lack of 60fps (in an FPS of all things) a mess of a menu system, a diabolical weapon modification system that remembers nothing, a class system that’s all over the place with standard sniper, heavy, light and assault classes all behind paywalls. And the most important part the bullet physics, I understand the game is built around this but with the exceptionally low graphics there is simply no point to it, I cannot see the drop to correct the shot through the tearing and jaggy choppy gameplay. A f*cking disgrace of a day one release after 3 years to polish. Its no wonder medicritic has reviews switched off on the PS4 and Xbox versions. Well let’s hope users who can’t review it over there come here and drag the PC score down with this sinking ship cause these scum don’t deserve to get away with this at £59.99… (DO NOT BUY ON CONSOLE! UTTERLY BROKEN) Expand
