  • Summary: Quirky controls, repetitive puzzles, and a range of other annoying flaws keep this game from being the major-league hit that Indiana Jones fans hoped it would be.

Guys, this game costs almost nothing on GOG.com these days. You would never leave this game unfinished once you open it. Go ahead and buy it. It's got HD support, 3D Sound support(!!!), Original Manual in PDF (ahh, the feels...), Screenshot support, and support for joypads.

Some may find the controls hard to muster but once they are mastered the platforming sections, with a deadly drop just a misstep away, become skill based and exciting. Sparse save files make the gameplay feel risky and immersive. The puzzles are very satisfying if you solve them without a walkthrough and there is enough gameplay to last for weeks. The story, characters, and world-building with a creepy and intriguing atmosphere, rival or even surpass the films. Hal Barwood's Infernal Machine is an undeniable gaming gem. The design and graphics do reflect the technology at the time but without the limitations, the gunplay and platforming might end up too streamlined and automatic - a trap Infernal Machine's great grand-son, Uncharted has fallen into. It is not graphics that make a game, but the gameplay and atmosphere. Expand

What people thought of the successors is a mystery to me. They're just bad.
