A gorgeous little indie game (in reality pretty large) reminiscent of the Sid Meyer's Pirates days and Final Fantasy Tactics. This game got almost everything right for me, sating my swashbuckling hunger with its intricate combat system and huge class customization, even though lacking in more quests.

I haven't gotten bored in my couple dozen hours play-through trying to get the wackiest class combos eventually ending up with characters all over the place yet still highly functional.
The crafting system is very simplistic, but also very satisfying. You can imbue weapons and armors with elemental triggers which grant them special abilities allowing me to have a Blunderbuss swashbuckling mage or a healing Berserker.
The big downside for me was that besides accruing a 25+ crew spread around multiple boats, you could only ever land with 5 members which disincentives you to level up anyone besides them, so despite the game having 35 different classes (every character can have a main class and a sub class) you can only combine 10 of them in your main party.
The game encourages you to make your own journey and allowing you to sail wherever you wish from pretty much the get go in order to craft your own unique journey. The combat was challenging enough for me with slight abuse potential (as are cRPGs) on ruin difficulty, some battles requiring you to have game plans and specialized characters (looking at you, dojos).
Overall a great satisfying indie journey from great developers supporting the game with patches and content even months after release.… Expand
