    Contras:
    - invisible walls everywhere
    - no friendly fire at all - "komrads" can't die - environment is indestructible - controls are not well optimized for keyboard+mouse - idiot checkpoint system Pros: - good scripts+plot - intense fights - beautiful textures - some good guns :) - difficulty is even high in 'normal' mode I played it many years ago on the Steam platform

Fairly average title, the game play is good enough but it's very generic and ticks all the FPS boxes. Story had an interesting premise but it's too short and hard to get attached. Miss opportunity.

Compared to the second Homefront. This one is more linear. It doesn't have an outpost to go to after a mission ends and no ability to upgrade weapons.

Performance wise, I get 60+ FPS areas and most of the times 80 - 100+ FPS in specific areas. It could be the type of art style they used for this game that pushed it to be better performance wise than the second Homefront game.

I thought the campaign was decent where North Korea is controlling sections of the United States, and you the resistance try and take back your land. I played on the hardest difficultly and all the missions can be completed in around 5.5 - 6 hours (7 missions in total). I could probably have had a shorter amount of time, but some missions have annoying AI on both the enemy side and on your side where your friendly AI won't even shoot at the enemy. The ending of the campaign was lackluster. I wished they showed the outcome of taking back your land like buildings where being rebuilt, the people tearing down the wall, etc. Put some emotion through the game and see how you and the resistance made a difference.

The best part about this game is that fact that multiplayer is still alive to this day. Not many old games can say that.

Achievement wise, the hardest 10 achievements are the multiplayer achievements since not many people aren't interested in the multiplayer aspect in a 7 year old game. They mostly only buy it for nostalgic reasons. The rest of the achievements can be found in single player or by completing single player missions.

I purchased this game at release for £39.99 and completed it within two days. The multiplayer was very unstable at this point so I left it a month or so and went back after they sorted their servers. I have been going back on a constant basis ever since...

I have read the reviews regarding the storyline and I don't see what the problem is? It's interesting and different even if it is over the top. The game tells a convincing story... The struggle of survivors; the pockets of resistance taking one step forward, 2 steps back; the harrowing scenes of murder that take place on streets for all to see! This is a game not scared to show the side of war that's depressing and because of this, you feel like you have to stand up and be counted. The pacing is sometimes an issue but the majority of the story was exceptional and spans over several different locations so the feeling of “being here, done that” never crosses your mind. It constantly moves forward and that was a plus point for me.

Here is a quick summary of the gameplay, weapons and sounds They do their job very well. Gameplay is linear but that's the type of game Kaos has created and the story line that was being told needed constricting gameplay otherwise pacing would have been even more of an issue. Weapons were nice with lots of variety and attachments. The usual suspects are all here pistols, sub machine guns, rifles and snipers etc. Other weaponry at your disposal comes in the form of the Goliath which is a very nice touch and gives the resistance the upper hand in some key scenes. You fully control an attack helicopter through one main chapter which was an excellent diversion and the UAV at the end felt great but was considerably under used. Sound effects were convincing, music was delightful and voice acting was implemented at the right times to add weight and conviction to most scenes.

Multiplayer is the most shocking of the package! IT IS AMAZING! Map wise there is just enough to get by with sections of the map opening up when objectives have been taken or destroyed. The maps are big with no real choke points so spammers can't operate The load outs are also in-depth with 2 special purchase slots available for each load out (UAV, Hell fire missile, flak jacket etc.) which can be purchased with battle points (the in game currency that you earn whilst playing, killing and completing various objectives.). The main thing that sticks out to me is that nothing feels over powered. The guns all have various handling and shooting techniques that have to be learnt in order to get the best out of them. The vehicles aren't easy to use and therefore require ample playtime in order to familiarise yourself with the handling, shooting, counter measures and amour effectiveness. Therefore, this game isn't something you can really just pick up and play. The game requires you to come back for more punishment before you get use to its many features. I am still in the process of learning how to effectively use the attack heli and I have spent a lot of time in game... but that is mainly down to whether purchasing a heli in the matches I play was worth the points when I know I am a more accomplished tank operator and could make more of a difference to my team. It's these differing play styles between players that make Homefront so appealing! Where one player who isn’t so good at infantry racks up his/her points by supporting their comrades by helping capture objective points which accumulate to help purchase an attach heli, their infantry ability which was somewhat poor is all but forgotten has the player roams the sky and rains down missile fire on the enemy. This is why Homefront matters; this is why it’s appealing… The person sitting at the top of the scoreboard is probably the worse infantry soldier in the game, but their ability to fly a helicopter to destroy enemy armour and allow infantry to move up is the key to success…

The main problem is the PC community for Homefront is dying and apart from two DLC map packs released a while ago, no support to the game exists. This is a shame because the community was once big but people over played the current selection of maps and wanted a different challenge. Hopefully there is another year left but it is looking doubtful! FINGERS CROSSED!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this game since release and hope for Homefront 2 which I hear is being developed by Crytek. That should be interesting as I did enjoy the Crysis 2 multiplayer for a while. The game itself misses out on a full score because of a few minor issues and the lack of support the community has had to endure. The minor issues are mainly single player related short campaign, some under developed characters and I would have liked more vehicle sections etc. So I am giving it a 9/10 for that and as I am still playing and enjoying it now, it will get no less from me. This is one game I can safely say” I have got my monies worth from!”

    The bad:
Mulitplayer sucks! There is no on and they have almost done nothing at all out of it. I do not care for the game almost never mulitplayer. They could nevertheless need to put some more work into it. There are not enough different things to play. The courses are either long and complex or small and impossible to navigate in.

If you buy a game for a good campaign, I recommend definitely Homefront! It's cheap and worth the money!
If you buy a game for mulitplayer I would advise you to consider your purchase once or see it in some of your friends if they own it.

I didin't know what to expect when i first bought this game. Never played the demo (maybe because it didin"t even have one!!) And now i know that this is a complete waste of money! Everything about this game is BAD.
The only reason that i rated this a 2 is because the multiplayer is pretty fun for a while.

I tend to take a lot of time with my games and proceed slowly, so I think altogether it took about 7 hours to finish. The graphics are pretty good for the time of release and I think the developers did a really wonderful job crafting the world. From the Golden Gate Bridge to the Survivalist camp to the home base, there is clearly a great attention to detail that makes the world feel alive, despite being mostly non-interactive. The characters are pretty throwaway, with partial exception to the girl in the squad, who occasionally notes some overlooked truisms about war that give her a little depth that is never fully explored. The story is farfetched, but fun for what it is, feeling like the script of a b-action movie, but with blockbuster effects. It's fleshed out through the use of newspapers, which are essentially the collectibles for the game, which are little 1-3 paragraph snippets about the development of the conflict. These are never terribly deep or moving, but they get the job done if you are interested in understanding the convoluted world the game takes place in.

Unfortunately the mechanics of the game don't match the atmospheric quality. The weapons are generic and few, and tend to lack a feeling of power behind them. The controls are a little convoluted; this probably reflects more on me, but it took me a few minutes to figure out how to pull out my targeting control for the drone vehicle. There is no lean feature, which is forgivable, but the hitboxes are off enough that bullets don't hit targets that are partially behind cover, which is particularly annoying when sniping. The game is almost a completely on-the-rails shooter, with a truly linear plan of attack. As has been noted, options are generally limited to which side of the street to take cover behind, although even that choice is sometimes taken away from you. Artificial and even some invisible barriers are all over the place, so the sooner you learn not to bother being creative, the sooner you will appreciate the simplicity of this shooting gallery. The only part of the game that provides a little autonomy is when you briefly pilot a helicopter, but the fun is limited due to horrible controls and physics of the helicopter, as well as a limit as to how far from your attack group you may venture. Still, setpieces like the helicopter segment really break up the action and provide highly memorable experiences in gaming, like the excellent helicopter segment in Far Cry 3. In fairness, some of the atmospheric storytelling did create powerful moments along the way, but ultimately Homefront excels in creating a beautiful and interesting world that is sort of boring to play in.

*I began my playthrough long enough after release that there were no remaining populated servers in my server list, so this is purely a review of the single player*

Homefront has an interesting premise that briefly satisfies, but the single-player campaign is extremely short (barely 4 hours) and the multi-player (what little there is) is over-run with hackers. It might have been worthwhile once, but now it is little more than a curiosity piece.

    + Nice graphics (Unreal 3).
+ Cool premise. The idea of North Korea conquering all of the United States is nonsense, but still an intriguing “what if” scenario.
    + Decent voice acting.

+/- Single-player story has the capacity to shock. Everything else about it – from the level design to enemy design – is painfully average. No real bosses, just shoot your way through. A handful of weapons, but only a few that are useful. The characters have little, well, character.
+/- Multiplayer is surprisingly still alive, but the few matches I was able to join were wrecked by wall-hackers and aim-botters. The maps are large, and feel very open while providing plenty of cover. Get a group of friends together, and you can have fun. When compared to other modern fps games like Battlefield 3 though, Homefront is competent, but nothing special.

    - Running feels like the player character is mired in mud.
    - Early levels look impressive, but distance objects in later levels are extremely low-res. Did the devs run out of money? There are other hints of a larger game – like the hub-like areas where you’re allowed to click on NPCs for some scripted dialogue.
    - Linear corridor levels.
    - The "stealth" sections are completely scripted. Just do what your AI team-mates tell you to do, and you'll be fine.
    - Checkpoint-based saving. (Manually saving hard-saves the last checkpoint.)
    - Little enemy variety. You have your basic solider, sniper soldier, and rocket-launcher soldier, with the occasional tank that takes three rockets to destroy. And there's also the automated gun-towers that somehow run on propane? (Throw a grenade to blow them up.)
    - The story mode feels like bits and pieces from a much larger game. The threat to America is done well, and there is some loss and sacrifice; but we never spend enough time with any of the characters to ever care.
    - There are several situations that unravel like this: an enemy soldier is scripted to advance to a certain point. If you have already advanced to that point, he’ll advance anyway, making his way blindly to his destination. Other times he’ll spawn instead marching to his destination – which means he’ll immediately begin firing at you, point-blank. It comes off feeling like the enemy AI is aggressive, when really it’s nothing of the sort.
    - This “programmed destination” thing plagues your AI team-mates as well. Several times I had a nice spot in cover, only to see myself moving slowly to the left or right. The AI controlled team-mate was literally pushing me out of cover and into enemy fire, because I was in his spot.
    - Iron sights is bound to right-click, as I would expect. What I did not expect is that right-clicking is a toggle. Right-click once, and iron sights are engaged until you right-click once again. This might work in a dedicated sniping game, but it’s a bad choice in a game that tries to have fluid and engaging combat. Ammo isn’t common, either, so precision is preferred over spraying bullets.

Homefront also requires the PhysX Legacy driver (if you’re on Radeon). Not really an issue – I have several games that require it. What is an issue is that, after installing another game that uses PhysX (Starpoint Gemini 2), Homefront claimed PhysX was corrupted, and wouldn’t launch. Repairing PhysX in the list of programs didn’t work. I was intending to try some more multiplayer, but had been so underwhelmed by everything to this point that I just uninstalled. An interesting premise isn’t enough to recommend Homefront. Worth a purchase? Only if you’re curious, and probably not even then.

It's an engaging story, but it kind of falls apart when you stop and think about it long enough. Plus, heart-wrenching though some scenes were, they feel like cheap attempts to elicit tears in the end. Maybe that's the real horror of it, and this game is just about shock value. I dunno. It was if nothing else a competent single-player FPS with some good wow moments from the helicopter level and the guilty pleasure that is Goliath, autonomous ♥♥♥♥-wrecking attack drone. Expand

Story: concept is good , similar to red dawn (the remake more so ) the north Koreans invade america witch in 2011 was a very real perceived threat. you play as a former helicopter pilot turned revolutionary recruited for your skills . so far so good , my problem with the story is just how quick it is , the story takes just over 4 hours roughly 5 and there is little to no character development beyond tropes. All the dialog sounds awkward and cheesy but at least its decently acted every plot twist feels forced and feel like a lazy attempt to be emotional . at the very least the story is an excuse for action but i think that this story would be better lent to an open world game ( i say this having never played homefront the revolution yet )
    Story: 5/10

World building: Alot of this games world building is done in the opening cut scene and that's boring even if it dose have some creative concepts and i think the politics surrounding this event are plausible , mexico closing its border to Americans in the games lore made me laugh a little bit because of how ironic that is now. i think this game's world should have been fleshed out more in game rather than its opening cut scene
    worldbuilding: 7/10

Graphics; some animations are awkward and stiff. the style is ok its fits the plucky resistance in a dark almost sci fi world , textures are meh at best , the graphics just feel sort of average like the devs wanted to emulated the style of call of duty but couldn't quite match it but the graphics do their job like a middle class working man , dose whats expected of them no more no less
    Graphics 5/10

Gameplay: the game feels like a watered down call of duty , but it dose some little things to set it self apart like guns have multiple reload animations , a person wont reload the gun the exact same way every time and so far homefront is the only game iv seen that has done this , its a small detail i really appreciated about this game. guns don't pack a good enough umph , recoils like non existant and explosions and physics feel sorta flat and life less and that should be the most important thing in an action game.
    gameplay 4/10

Sound design: the music is good but ultimately forgettable, guns sound like they are shooing plastic bullets , the voice acting is decent but not amazing . the in between radio broad casts was a cool idea that elevated the world building a little bit and helped make loading screens not so tedious
    sound design: 6/10

    5+7+4+5+6= 27
    27/5= 5.4
homefront had potential and a few good little ideas and i think with an open world and better direction this game could have been great

[The Level Designs look great, it feets the game perfectly as an occupied future America.
The combat feels fantastic for an FPS, I would be surprised if it didn't. Developing studio is kinda familiar with the FPS scene.

The dialogue during the game was kinda lackluster. For me, it kinda feels like fillers between cutscenes, not that memorable, and not that interesting most of the time.
The cutscenes will make up for the dialogues in between the cutscenes, and the cutscenes is great, but predictable some of the time.
For me, the voice acting feels fantastic.

The graphics look great for a 2011 game, but it will feel outdated in 2021, but that is to be expected.
The Animation looks fantastic and feels smooth.
The Motion capture looks fantastic most of the time, but it did feel off at some points during my playthrough.
The Voice-Sync feels off most of the time, in and out of cutscenes.

I did encounter a bug during the mission “The Wall” in part 2 of my PlayThrough Series of Homefront.
Basically, Connor got stuck on a large piece of rubble, and I could not progress while this bug was happening. I will classify this as a breaking bug as i could not play the game normally or even progress at all with this bug.
I also encountered performance issues, at times the game would freeze for a few microseconds, but long enough to be noticed. I noticed this happening while the NPC character was opening/closing doors or doing other interactions while gameplay.

The plot is textbook, occupied USA, occupants evil, many games have done more or less exactly the same thing before and after when Homefront did it.
    The End was kinda eh.
The Character Development was great tho, ill give them that.

The replayability is not that great, there are some servers up for the multiplayer, but you might have a hard time finding matches as most of the time there are 20-30 ppl playing this game. Even less actually playing the multiplayer part of the game.]

    "6/10 – Average.
These recommendations come with a boatload of “ifs.
It's only held back by a few issues (or stiff competition).
Not always the best choice, but it can get the job done.
There’s a good game in here somewhere, but you’ll have to know where to look, and perhaps turn a blind eye to some big drawbacks.”

Not a bad gameplay, the game for 2011 was not very relevant, but after 2014 and even more so now it looks very serious and causes dozens of deja-vu with real during the passage. The game still has multiplayer, and there is online for a comfortable game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Expand

Homefront is certainly one of the most unique shooters I’ve ever played and one of my favorites.

Boring dumbed down clone of call of duty. Only graphics look nice, everything else sucks.

The interface is wonderful. You have so much information immediately available to you. Google Maps always has a minimap in the lower left corner, which gives you a good overview of the area. Getting information about people gives you a clear, clear window. Hacking offers a menu with easily recognizable icons, so you always know what your button presses will do.

Worst and unfinished story, bulls**t dialogue and deaths, f**k KPA concept and Korean language, awful and terrible AI difficulty. Gameplay is terrible. I feel so rage and anger while I play this game. Don't buy this. This is the worst game than Dark Souls and Roguelikes. Instead of this game, play Crysis 1 and kill these KPA. PS. The lucky one is I played the crack version of this game.

I have a hard time recommending the PC version of Homefront. It's a decent game with a unique take on world events, and its fresh and fun new ideas for two-mode, bot-less, online only multiplayer kept me coming back long after I'd waved adieu to the single-player portion, but the performance and playability on this platform is far eclipsed by the stability found on consoles.

Very short but intense firefight shows not a very cheerful vision of the near future for North America. Game story is excellent but playability loses because of over-scripting. [Issue#203]

It's dreadfully average and far too quickly finished, providing nothing more than the most basic type of fun on the first run-through and little incentive to revisit. Not because it's broken; just because it's boring.
