It's really terrible. I don't understand why this piece of crap has so high rating. After 60+ hours of playing it was just boring, super repetitive, without any challenge at all and very weak plot. Not to mention the obligatory 2023 agenda. It seems like people have forgotten what really good games used to be like and this low quality games already seem awesome to them.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've come back to this rating after trying at it again. I regret doing so. It is a very bad game filled with very bad characters and quests. I really do not understand why people think it is so good. If it was possible, I would score this game negatively. Lots of bugs. A very boring start where you literally go to school and sit through dull and overly eager lessons. Massive and very unnecessary woke liberal assault at certain points of the game (some things JK Rowling is on record being opposed to and its her world. She made this world and whether you like her writing or opinions or not, changing somebody else's art is plain wrong). Quests are classic fetch and tell somebody about it stuff. Why is the only way to get xp by completing certain quests?!?! Not killing anything or learning new things. This removes so much interest and makes things more linear, a stupid decision. Limited inventory and itemisation so far, this feels rushed and incomplete. So many options that could have existed were lost. Why is everybody kind of nice? You can't become a power hungry crazy guy at all and I thought that was one of the things about RPGs. Be good, bad or indifferent is a key aspect. Why are there not gangs in Hogwarts? Groups of people who team up as friendships and have rival friendships? Why is bullying apparently normal and you can't do anything about it apart from fetch the bullied kids silly marbles? Why not have an option to go and have a little chat with the older kids of mistreat her. OR join them?!? Where is the gore? So much to complain about and for that much money it's really not good. I am not a HP fan, didn't really like the books, read a third of one and then put it down. Didn't enjoy the films much either. What I do like is RPGs and what I do respect is the original artist. This game fails at both. Expand

Breathtaking graphics. Honestly, just wandering through the forests, flying over the lake or exploring the castle would be enough for me. The world looks so beautiful.

The story has room for improvement. It's okay but could definitely be more exciting and profound.

exploration is very boring, it's all the same: hundreds of tiny treasure caves, but there's only ~5 puzzles you need to solve to get the reward and they are pretty easy
you have so little enemies... it's so easy to defeat them even on very hard settings, spells are fun tho - almost the only good part about this game, but you can defeat every enemy with 2-3 spells, again, the game is to easy
    graphics is very nice though

Hogwarts legacy is generally a perfect adaptation of the Harry Potter IP into a video game. It really had everything you could wish for in a hp game.

The standout aspect of the game was the gameplay, mainly the combat. The combat was very fluid, fast paced and challenging enough to not become easy or dull. . The other aspects of the gameplay, such as the flying, movement, gear etc.

    .
The other aspects of the gameplay, such as the flying, movement, gear etc. were all in a very good state throughout the game, you honestly always felt like going from point A to B was short trip but you were always surrounded by the beautiful open world.

Hogwarts Legacy has so many positives that you would think it's one of the best games ever made, I could easily name 10 other details that I really enjoyed but, instead of this being a 10/10 masterpiece, it ended up a 8 out of 10 because of one word: repetition. After 20 hours or so of playing all the side quests and exploring the fun mechanics, you start to get extremely bored due to the fact that each side mission and objective become the exact same sequence.
Let us take the caves for example, the first few times you enter a cave the puzzles are fun and the combat is fresh, but after 5 or 6 of them you notice how blatantly repetitive the game is.
The combat is this game became so boring due to the lack of different enemies, you would see spiders mostly in caves, goblins everywhere and the other enemies were seen only a few times here and there, I did say the combat was good but even too much of a good thing becomes boring. This repetitiveness doesn't only apply to the combat, the side quests are all basically the same schematic, the dialogue starts to get annoying as every character has to have way too many meaningless conversations, puzzles are not fun after you do the same puzzle just in a different combination for 20 side quests.

The story was alright all in all, nothing that blew me away but not bad either.
I do want to also point out that the customization was top tier, I spent a lot of time choosing the perfect attire and getting chests so that I could unlock new items.

All in all this game could have been an all time great if there was more diversity in the gameplay. I hope the studio makes another open world game such as this one (possibly a sequel)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Il gioco è fantastico:il paesaggio di hogwarts è stupendo,i nemici e i personaggi hanno un character design veramente ben fatto e,da amante di Harry Potter,nn potevo nn adorare tutti gli ester eggs rivolti alla storica saga.A me però,nn è mai piaciuto Il protagonista:Harry. This review is NOT objective, but frankly the real-life consequences of financially enabling and endorsing a multimillionaire in their dangerous bigotry is more important than any sort of "objective" game review. The only reason I've change it from 0 to 1 is to acknowledge the hard work of the non-bigoted staff.

    * Extensive history of anti-LGBTQIA+ views (yes, not just the transphobia)
    * Racist dog whistles - "slavery is good, actually" via the elves, stereotypical names for all of the very few BIPOC character, antisemitism via the goblins ("large hooked noses, obsession with gold, greedy/untrustworthy" as with many Jewish caricatures, parallels between goblin rebellion and the Fettmilc riots (Jews were exiled and executed 1612 - 1614), kidnapping children for blood is adjacent to the fearmongering myth of blood libel, shoving non-kosher gorgonzola into a shofar-like horn that was a prized artificact of the goblins), major devs on HL were known Gamergate and right-wingers in online spaces which Warner Bros KNOWINGLY shrugged off when concerns were raised during product.
    * Sexism and fatphobia (thin/beautiful = good and fat/ugly = bad or incompetent especially for women)
    * Ableism - Joanne believes that autistic people are not capable of making their own decisions and doing what will make them happy ( in relation to transphobia due to a notable overlap between the two communities)

Players are free to do as they wish, but please beware that Joanne has admitted herself that she sees the financial success of the Harry Potter franchise as validation for her dangerous views. Her fans and paying consumers are being used for social and political clout, and she will turn on you just as easily as she did on the above marginalised groups the minute you've worn out your usefulness to her.

Hogwarts Legacy is an action "role-playing" game that takes place in the Harry Potter universe. When I first got to start exploring Hogwarts I was so excited to see this perfect recreation of Hogwarts and howHogwarts Legacy is an action "role-playing" game that takes place in the Harry Potter universe. Despite being called Hogwarts Legacy most of the games main quest doesn't take place at Hogwarts but instead in the surrounding areas. This is one of my biggest gripes with the game. When I first got to start exploring Hogwarts I was so excited to see this perfect recreation of Hogwarts and how I was going to learn the locations of every class and how every hallway connects to one another and be fully immersed in Hogwarts. But the game doesn't really do that because you just fast travel everywhere in Hogwarts and you don't actually spend that much time in Hogwarts. A game called Hogwarts Legacy should use Hogwarts to its full advantage and really get the player to experience their semester there instead of just extending the map further and further away from Hogwarts.
The game does use nostalgia very well as it hits many of the same important beats and locations that you experience from the movies/books. The mandrake scene, forbidden forest, room of requirement, fighting a troll, polyjuice potion, restricted area in the library, the deathly hallows are all in the game and they pull from the source material well, but it can often times just feel like they are making you remember the original.
This game reminds me a lot of the Batman Arkham games, specifically Arkham City because thats my favorite one. The similarities are number one in the combat and number two in the puzzle elements of the game. The combat is like ranged Batman Arkham combat. The main elements are dodging, countering, attacking, and racking up your combo. The big difference is in Hogwarts Legacy you often times have to use spells to break an enemies barrier as well as being able to stagger them and do massive damage to them. In the Batman games the camera tends to be better as well as which enemy you have to lock onto where in Hogwarts legacy I can be looking at an enemy right in front of me and it will target an enemy 20 meters away. Having a huge arsenal of spells is super fun to use and it works really well. I played on the hard difficulty and it made the game much more enjoyable, but it did hinder my enjoyment in some of the higher level more tanky enemies like trolls where I would end up doing the same dodges and attacks for 3-4 minutes straight.
The second part is how similar the Merlin Trials remind me of the Riddler trophies. You use some ability to solve a puzzle and get a small reward. Sometimes you may or may not have the ability unlocked at the time so you may have to come back. But in Hogwarts Legacy a lot of the puzzles are so simple they don't feel like puzzles, like when you just have to destroy the rocks that pop up. It's mostly about walking around trying to find all 5 of the rocks. The progression in the Merlin trials allows for you to hold more gear but by the end of the game I didn't feel any want or need to complete all of them.
The flying in the game is okay, it is very convenient for getting to new locations but I feel like it makes you observe the world less. But maybe that is because the open world content of the game isn't much to actually do. I did a couple of side quests but they didn't intrigue me that much. I did a couple of broomstick trials and some merlin trials, found a couple of astronomy tables if they were on my way but I didn't really want to interact with the open world. It feels much different in how I would want to do every shrine in Tears of the Kingdom but skip over almost every bubble on my minimap.
The story is just kinda meh. You're the chosen one and have to complete some trials. A couple characters you don't care about die along the way. The main quest progression is a lot more interesting. I really liked the assignments you would get from your classes. They required you to do some extra off the beaten path type things and rewarded you with a new spell. Some quests required some spells to complete them so completing these assignments was important and it was one of my favorite parts of the early game.
The relationship quests are all kind of meh as well as the main story with one exception. I didn't care for Otai quest and I liked Poppy a little bit. They were all kinda generic quests with not very interesting themes. But Sebastian's questline is a different story. This questline elevates the game but it also makes me with the game was so much more.
Sebastian's questline is Sebastians quest to reverse the curse that was placed on his twin sister, Anne. The quest revolves around the "Unforgivable Curses" that exist in the Harry Potter world. The unforgivable curses, specifically Avada Kedavra is one of the worst pieces of lore written into Harry Potter as it just gives all dark wizards something to constantly use; however, it ends up working much better in a video game where there are cooldowns between uses of spells. In one of the early quests in the questline, you or Sebastian must

Almost excellent game. Gameplay-mechanics and the world design - superb. Music, atmosphere, immersion and exploring in this game is pure bliss. Lots and lots of little lore-accurate details, fun easter eggs and all-around unique charm that only the wizarding world has (and which the later movies lacked). The setting (year 1890) is interesting, and the acting is solid.

The setting (year 1890) is interesting, and the acting is solid.

Puzzles... some work, and some are too easy. Most puzzles are repeated too many times. Would've wanter more variety in these, the mechanics and spell combinations would allow for more varied puzzles in difficulty and execution, and I hope this is something they add later on in a DLC.

Bosses are underwhelming. First few were a copy/paste same fight, and the only good boss with fun and engaging mechanics was the very last one. Though the last boss was good, it didn't feel like the final boss of a game - more like a lead-up to it.

Main villains weren't much of a fight, and were mostly relegated as mid-bosses with endless adds. The environments in these fights were uninspired, and lacked any opportunity to utilize the surroundings for different tactics, other than the repetitive crowd control you spend most of the game using.

The story is is another weakness in this game. Its build-up is good, but the resolution comes suddenly bringing the main story to an abrupt end. After completing the main story, there's little to no reason to stick around doing side quests and explore more of the map. Which is a shame, since the world is Beautiful with a Capitol B, and immersive.

I'll raise my score if they deliver a good DLC, but for now it's a very solid 7.
Or if they give me quidditch, it's an automatic 10.

Conclusion - worth 70 bucks? Resoundingly YES 9 only because its very linear. Wandering around Hogwarts and seeing it in person is worth the cost alone.

I enjoyed my time with this game, the graphics are one of the best ive seen, the world ESPECIALLY hogwarts castle is marvellous, they got that really bang on, nailed it in every aspect. Walking around the castle and having a whimsical feel of magic and wonder around you is truly not replicable in other games because other games dont do harry potter like this game does. Walking to and from class, learning new spells, talking to your npc friends, it is super immersive while you are in the hogwarts castle. Hogsmeade is also a treat to explore, fans will recognise many familar places from the movies. The fan service is really done super super well, i must praise them alot for this. Thumbs up. You can even have a pet farm where you can rear animals and make spells, this is like so cool to do in the game, well done.

However the game is far from perfect!
as a video game fan, i could easily tell the game fails to really innovate or broaden our expectations of what a modern open world can do, it gets boring very quickly as you do endless fetch quests (while riding various mounts which are quite fun to do ngl, only thing keeping me from falling asleep while doing side quests), the combat is the most basic in a video game ever, every single enemy can be killed with the simple spell you get at the start. The illusion really breaks once you leave the castle and hogsmeade because the world doesnt have much to offer at all. The repeated dialogue is really annoying also. Towards the end, the game can start to feel quite repetitive and dry, with a run of the mill good vs evil storyline, which when considering the audience of the game might include younger klds, its fine i guess,, but story does not stand out and repetitive missions are unwelcome and distasteful.
Hogwarts Legacy is great at what it does and it really shows, but the game could use some fine tuning such as stronger story and expanded open world concepts.

Need to work on making the world feel organic and interactions exist and occur organically and don't pull you from the world . Red dead 2 does this well.
Music needs to be more effective. Flying mechanics need to be fully redone especially if there is going to be Quidditch. Should be able to do complex arial manuvers while still being able to look so around. Final con...no Quidditch... How dare they.

-Most of the time is spent reaching some point, following a track on your mini-map. Then you reach the point and get 2 minutes cutscene, perhaps some boring assignment or some heavily guided search-and-discover session, and then back to following the mini map track.
-The game is full of cutscenes and dialogues but they all feels uninspired at best. Really why couln't they hire decent writers?
-Most secondary missions are so boring they hurt.
-Puzzles sections are sometimes ok, sometimes so obvious! And of course if you don't solve them in 1 minute the main character will say something that tells you what to do so no brain required at all.
-Combat is so and so. It is challenging and perhaps someone will like it.

After 5 to 6 hours I don't find myself wanting to play anymore. The world is massive and curated but I don't want to visit it because there is nothing interesting to do.

    A Truly Magical Game

Hogwarts Legacy has no right to be as phenomenal as it is. Admittedly, when I heard the game had been delayed and just in general with how badly triple A games are on release nowadays, I was expecting this game to bomb in a similar fashion to the Callisto Protocol. But I was so wrong.

The Game is an open world RPG with a create-your-own protagonist and it's one of the best RPG's of this kind I've ever played. Exploring Hogwarts is genuinely some of the most fun you'll have in a game like this, and exploring the Scottish Highlands outside of Hogwarts is just as exciting. It's a game that can fill you with child-like wonder.

The main story is rather decent, it's strong enough that it doesn't feel like a slog and keeps you interested in what's going to happen next. The main story is effectively split into two paths which naturally converge over the course of the game, the first being that you're following the steps of another Wizard from hundreds of years ago and the other basically being a Goblin Rebellion-type. However for me, the best story-telling in this game isn't the main story at all, even if it is rather good.

For me, the best story telling is about the friends you meet along the way. There are three which basically take you all the way to the end of the game in long extended storylines which are interesting enough that if the game decided to more linear, they could've used any one of these storylines and it would have been great. The Slytherin friend storyline is definitely my favourite out of those ones. However there are a lot of different side quests dotted around the map, helping younger students, citizens of Hogsmeade, treasure maps. There is a lot to do in this game.

The combat is fantastic. I expected it to be weird and clunky, as someone who has played a lot of third person shooters and other types of fighting games, the idea of fighting with a wand seemed, for lack of a better word, lame and uninspired. Again, I'll admit I was wrong. The combat is so satisfying and it doesn't last long enough to feel tedious. It's short bursts of combo'ing your spells together, the animation balance of it all chaining together is extremely entertaining to witness. There are a multitude of spells to choose from, each having their own category and doing different things. Pick what suits you best.

I'd say the only little gripe I had about the game, was in relation to some of the side quests. If you go too hard on exploration of ruins and other dungeon-esque environments, you'll end up doing the full thing, which is fine. You might pick up a weird item or defeat a boss which is to be expected. Then, hours later, a side quest will open up where the quest giver will ask you to do basically what you already did. And after you receive the quest, after you are done talking to them, the next part of the quest is to return to them. It kind of stopped me from exploring as much as I should have, in fear that I'd either need to return to a place I'd already been to, or by spoiling a side-quest storyline by having already done the location in question.

You can customise your character to a good degree, initially you create their race, facial features etc, but the best part comes from the outstanding amount of outfits you can have. You can wear your Hogwarts cloak and uniform, a Highland Uniform, general clothing, scarfs, no scarfs, glasses, wizard hats, top hats. It's brilliant. I changed my outfit constantly during the game just so I always felt fresh.

Overall, Hogwarts Legacy is one of the best games created in its genre, everyone should play this, if you like Harry Potter, play it, if you like Open World RPG's, play it. If you just like good video games in general. Play it. It's a truly remarkable experience that will keep you at your desk for hours just admiring all it has to offer. 9/10.

Before the release I read an article that said that you should only buy this game if you hate transistors and jews. So you can see why I was tempted, but in the end, cooler heads prevailed and I procured the game the usual way. I am very glad that I did, for this game is the worst dump of SJW crap that I have ever seen. But let’s start on a positive note. First of all the graphics is very nice, animations are splendid, all seems slick and smooth and polished. The castle itself is just fantastic. A lot of work and passion obviously went into building that castle. The animated paintings are also very cool and really help to build the atmosphere of the world of magic. It is a very nice start. The menu is very clear and the game font is likeable. So far I am impressed. As far as creative writing goes, I was only somewhat impressed by the shadow questline, it is the promise of what could have been. The dark atmosphere of the Salazar Scriptorium and the simple dark heart beat like music. Wow, that is very good, I wonder what will come next. Sadly what comes next is the ugandan questline and for some weird reason I was not as invested in that one. But let’s leave the SJW aside just for a little while longer and focus on the other negatives. For me the game was just too immature. I know it may sound weird and I know that the game and the whole HP world is meant primarily for children, but still, it was too simplistic, too bleak. The school houses do not play any role, students from all houses and seemingly of all ages simply mix everywhere, even in the classes. There was not even the slightest hint of anything sexual, even though a castle full of teenagers seems like a very good place for a little romance. But it is not just the story and characters that are simplistic, the gameplay as such is also very easy, there is no challenge even on hardest difficulty, the puzzles are a joke. That particularly is a pity, for I would think that the Hogwarts castle would be a perfect place to be filled with myriads of devilishly hard and hidden puzzles. The game also really relies on the movie adaptations a lot, and that is an understatement. If there is a Herbology class scene, of course you repotting Mandrakes. And it is like that with everything in this game. However I understand why that is so, because whenever the creators were forced to actually create something new by themselves, they created something bleak and uninteresting, something that did not fit the world of HP at all. The lighting in this game also needs some more work I would say. And finally we arrive at the SJW. It is truly ever present and so intrusive that it made me want to stop playing immediately a couple of times and at other times it was just so laughably clumsy and awkward. The innkeeper is the obvious example, but there is so much more, all the lesbians, Fatimas and other minorities. A NPC actually says: A gentleperson and a scholar, as if that is the most natural phrase that everyone uses. Wow. And what is best is that all this is supposed to be set in the 1800s, which makes it all the more bizarre. Why would you want to set your game in the 1800s when you also want to fill it with the demographics of 2023 London? Nobody even tries to speak like it is the 1800s. Ridiculous. Oh, and of course, you need to be educated on yet another matter. The bad guys are not only racists (obviously), but many are also poachers. You know, hunters, gun owners and meat eaters. The animals themselves are pretty likeable and fluffy and cool, true, but that cannot save this game, not in my eyes. I finished the game in about 50 hours on a PC playthrough. In the end, I could not be bothered to finish all the generic secondary quests and collections. This game features microtransactions and is riddled with SJW to a ridiculous point. To me this is immorality, this is depravity, this is abomination.

Is this the best HP game of all times? Probably, although that is not saying much. Do not get me wrong, the game does have its moments. Like when the boggart takes the form of a random black man. Talk about the magic of the unwanted. Final verdict: 44%

Combat 9/10 The combat feels very good, basically it revolves around making combos and rewarding the player for that, you both gain more energy for ancient magic when you make a large sequence of combo without being damaged and, of course, you can combo yours spells, like you can cast leviosa on an enemy and them depulso to throw him from a cliff. You can transform an enemy into an explosive barrel and throw it into another enemy, there are many combos. And the enemies, generally have one or two spells that they are weak in some window, like an enemy that attacks with the tongue is vulnerable if you cast leviosa on this tongue when he is gonna attack, then you can cut off his tongue with diffindo.

9/10 open-world - truly it surprised me. It is one of the best open-world that I've ever seen. It has so many details, especially in Hogwarts and the Hogsmeade village, they are so beautiful, Hogwarts seems exactly like in the movie with moving frames and armor statues, and even peeves there. The towers and the rooms are so well represented, it really feels like a real Hogwarts. Also, there are many puzzles in Zelda/Genshin style, like there is a torch, then you cast incendio, now there is fire in the torch and you gain some XP, or there are many flying papers scattered and you cast accio to catch then and you are reward with some XP. Also, there are many secrets rooms and puzzles. I really like this type of exploration, it feels very good.

Hogsmeade village is also very cool with many beautiful stores, especially the candy and prank stories.

The rest of the world is really big but kinda empty, there are a lot of "Ubisoft-style activities", like a lot of repetitive activities scattered on a huge map that seems a constant ctrl+c and ctrl+v.

Story 7.5/10 - one of the aspects that disappointed me. The story isn't bad but the characters are so lame. It was an interesting choice to make the game way before Harry Potter events but I really missed seem some old characters.

The main villain is so cliche he is Globin that wants to conquer everything and he isn't even developed, the professors are those types of personas who are always helping us, especially professor Fig, but honestly, that isn't so fun, I missed someone like Severus Snape in the Harry Potter franchise to create some drama. The Director is literally a clown with zero importance in the story. But, I must say, at least the guardians story is somewhat interesting, but the main-quest it would be 6.5/7

There are also three main side quests with 3 characters: Poppy, Sebastian and Naty, in many moments they are even better than the main quest. They develop these characters and although they aren't top tier either, they are cool, especially Poppy and Sebastian's quest, at the very least I could sympathize with them.

Also, one more aspect that this game copied from Genshin was the "illusion of choice", it has many dialogue options but it doesn't change anything.

I rate it as 3 because of 1 - great OST, 1 - great graphics, 1 - Hogwards itself is great in-game. But everything else is a failure or "meh".

Plot is so childish and bland it's not even funny. Game offers you many choices but they almost never matter. You can't choose between "good" and "bad" sides, although there are Curses and Dark Arts in the game... lol, yeah you can even use Avada

You can't choose between "good" and "bad" sides, although there are Curses and Dark Arts in the game... lol, yeah you can even use Avada Kedavra as a 15yo student. But you are still getting pipelined by a plot. Even House choice doesn't matter, there's no rivalry between houses, no intrigues, nothing.

It has an open world, yet it's too generic and empty, no variety of enemies is present, it's more like Ubisoft games-styled grinding for a sake of grinding. And some quests are level locked so the game forces you to grind stuff at some point.

Combat is okay, but not like "hard" or anything, it's basically LMB spam, abilities spam (with CD being the only limit, no mana in game) and dodge/block spam with laughable CD and no stamina being present in game either!

NPC are more like furniture, you can't interact with them, hit them, or get punished for anything. Feels unnatural and ruins the immersion. Side quests they give you is the most generic "go there, fetch this, kill 15 wolves" stuff you'd imagine.

If you are a very casual gamer, and/or die-hard HP universe fan, then you'll enjoy this game for sure. Otherwise try Bully Scholarship Edition, it's light years ahead "schoolboy sim" game compared to HL.

Pretty average unfortunately. Nothing really special here apart from it being a game in the HP universe. It nails the HP vibes with good aesthetics and great sound design, combat is also quite good. Fans will definitely like this.

The rest however is pretty uninspired, it's a generic open world flooded with map markers, nothing really exciting to find and stupid chores. That's also

The rest however is pretty uninspired, it's a generic open world flooded with map markers, nothing really exciting to find and stupid chores. That's also where the focus of the game is - You are out in the wild murdering millions of goblins and people, you are rarely at Hogwarts and if you are you are mostly doing fetch quests for incapable NPCs or speedrunning classes. Nothing you do has any consequence whatsoever and there aren't any real choices. A lot of mechanics are in the game, although they are all too shallow for my taste. The game feels a lot like Ubisoft made this. Looks great, especially at the start but is so shallow and boring underneath that really makes it just average. The dungeons are very uninspired, every cave I've found leads to exactly one treasure chest. Loot is boring, everything is just average.

Was surprised at how much fun this game turned out to be. If you have no interest in the books/movies then you might want to pass on this, but for fans of the books/movies the game is great. The locations and graphics are amazing. Other than occasional stutters the game ran flawlessly.

I would highly recommend reading the mixed and negative reviews before buying this game, especially at full price. Not the ones by people who forgot that you're not supposed to iron the folds out of your brain and complain about wokeness and "AgeNDa", but the ones by people who actually break down the good and bad aspects of the game.

If you stripped out the Harry Potter name and theming of the game, you're left with a mediocre product at best. Once you've played the first 4 or so hours of the game, you've already experienced everything the game has to offer; the remaining 16 or so are just the first part but copy/pasted with a bit of variation.

If you just want to experience Hogwarts and have fun casting spells, this is a great game for that. If you want an immersive and interesting story, world, or characters, this falls way short. It's worth playing, but I would definitely wait until it goes on sale before picking it up.

I can't complete this game. The first 15/20 hours are amazing. Then, you are left with no more spells to learn, maybe a few new animals to catch, and the emptiness of a map loaded with those boring as hell Merlin's trials. Technically is good, mechanics are kinda interesting, but after 20 hours into the game, i just can't play for more than 5 minutes withouth getting bored.

First of all, I must say that I enjoyed the game and I completed it twice. However, I have some thoughts on how it didn't meet my expectations in certain aspects.

One of the biggest disappointments of the game was that my choices didn't have a significant impact on the flow of events. I expected more event combinations and hoped that different choices would lead to different outcomes.

This could have increased the replayability and depth of the game.

Additionally, I was disappointed by the similarity in the flow of events and the characters between the houses. I wasn't expecting an RPG standard like Fallout, but I expected an experience where the same locations would change with different scenarios, similar to what we saw in Cyberpunk. Unfortunately, these expectations were not met, and this aspect of the game was not very satisfying for me.

I had dreamed of exploring Hogwarts from within and unraveling the mysteries of the castle for years. However, I couldn't find enough mystery and location-based narrative in the game. Outside of Hogwarts castle, there were wizards in yellow tents and a gypsy aesthetic, but I couldn't find the gothic and grotesque aesthetics in the interiors. While it was wonderfully recreated when viewed from the outside, it lacked the magical and visual narrative that I expected in the indoor areas.

The game turned into RPG chores at some point, and I found its story to be weak. The beginning of the story was quite promising, but it felt rushed to bring it to a quick conclusion. This negatively affected the overall experience of the game.

In addition to these points, I liked the card and reward mechanism. This mechanism makes the game more exciting and motivating.

In conclusion, Hogwarts Legacy was a game I enjoyed despite some disappointments. I expected more event combinations and different scenarios tied to the houses in the game. Additionally, I hoped to find more mystery and gothic aesthetics within the castle. However, some features like the card and reward mechanism caught my interest. The game's story, on the other hand, felt a bit weak. Hogwarts Legacy still holds a place for me due to my love for the Harry Potter universe, but I believe it didn't fully realize its potential.

    * Game uses Epic Online Services - the presence of this means I will never purchase the game
    * Woke / alphabet agenda with trans / crossdressing / homo content present in a number of places in the game whereby they just have to make a point of making sure you know they're gay, trans, etc. Heck, one of the side quests is seemingly designed to drum up sympathy for the crossdressing character...sigh. We need to stop enabling & encouraging so much mental illness in our culture; this is one of the key reasons so many people are on anti-depressants these days. The presence of this type of content likewise means I will never purchase a personal copy of the game
    * Awful game performance even on a high end rig with an RTX 3090 (poor optimization, effectively)
    * Even the deepest masculine voice for the character sounds like an effeminate boy
    * Once you get past the game's fantastic graphics, it's honestly kinda boring... the combat is mediocre and gets repetitive VERY quickly
    * No romance options in the game - and don't get me wrong, not saying there should be sexually explicit scenes or anything like The Witcher since this isn't an adult game, but you are playing the game as a teenager, and romantic relationships are a pretty big part of that part of a person's life - it can create dramatic situations and dynamics as well between other characters who may be competing for the same girl, etc. They could introduce this in a follow-up sequel when the main character sees some of his friends again that he developed good friendships with such as Poppy Sweeting, etc.
    * I'm admittedly baffled by the really high praise reviews; again not saying this is an awful game, but it's really nothing spectacular when you get past the graphics / animation quality and attention to the world itself. The actual game mechanics are not very impressive. It's just another open-world RPG style game like Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, etc. just in the Harry Potter universe.
    * The day / night cycle in the game is like a lot of open world games nowadays where the day cycle is way too short
    * Game feels a little dead in terms of the cast / environment and what I mean by that is while it's very pretty aesthetically, and there is a large cast of characters, they aren't really developed very well and so it feels somewhat empty. For example you might do a side quest for one character in the school, a fellow student...and you work with them on the quest and complete it. But then you never really interact with that student again despite going to school at Hogwarts every day with them. So it feels very sterile as far as the cast - you need to have fairly frequent contact with characters in order to generate a feeling for the player like they are there, and that the world really is alive. It's missing that feeling from Harry Potter movies where Harry, Ron, Hermione, etc. were frequently together working on things, and in this game you rarely see the main character with a similar group of people outside of some specific side quests.
    * Game has an exclusive quest locked down to Playstation - so chalk that up to anti-consumer behavior from the developer / publisher
    * Way too many cosmetics as the rewards for completing quests, challenges, etc. You'll complete certain challenges throughout the game, and worthless cosmetics seem to be overwhelmingly common - should have more narrative / dialogue as rewards, or something actually useful

    Pros:

    * Kudos for only giving (2) options during character creation for the Wizard / Witch and not trying to define the make-believe notion that there are more than two genders
    * Graphics are pretty darn good, they dedicated a lot of attention to detail when designing the world which is great to see. This is probably the highlight of the game
    * Lots of little events as you're walking around with things happening in the world - the animation work is fantastic by the development team. They really put monumental effort into constructing the world, and they deserve the absolute highest praise for that.
    * Relatively solid, yet nothing ground-breaking, main questline story. The end of the game sets up well for a sequel where, like the Harry Potter movies / books, the main character can return to Hogwarts for the 6th year and have more things to look forward to.

Game Length: 59 Hours - I did probably ~95% of the game. I didn't pick up all of the treausre chests, but did basically everything else - every side quest that was available, all of the Merlin Trials (quite tedious as there are like 95 of them), all of the star constellation tasks, completed the field guide, etc.

    Final Rating: 5/10.

The Bad Stuff: who was this story made for? I know the books were for kids. But those kids are now grown-up dads at this point. Why does the story of this game feel like it was written for kids or teenagers? Devs didn't know their audience?
The next con goes hand in hand with this. Every single dialogue is either > “be good dialogue” or “be a bit less good but still good dialogue”. Where is the option to be bad or to be neutral? This makes the game more boring and stale.
Side quests are barely any quests. Come on, you put so much effort into making this world but forget to make dialogue enjoyable. Every single NPC other than the main plot characters talks like a **** robot.
Oh, don't even forget about the **** woke stuff. "oh no our games won't do good if we don't have a trans or **** in it." **** disgusting. No need to shove it in the face. Like wtf?
The performance is **** af. Which machine did they test it on? **** supercomputers? People are still rocking the 1060s and 1650s. And they make a game that can't run on low smoothly. Fps drop and stuttering are a feature in this game. The mod community somehow put some tape on this wound.

(Yeah, I have never read the books... Sorry lol) I was at some points obsessed. I would find a twig and roleplay as a wizard in my room. I even knew almost all the names of the spells, and what they did. So you may imagine what a blessing this game would have been to me when I was at that age. Even now, it was a beyond incredible experience. However, the developers have also made very bad decisions.

    Pros:
-The combat feels amazing. Having so many different types of spells and being able to cast them is a blessing for someone like me. Making strong combinations from the different spells felt amazing. Combat animations were amazing. I could feel that I was actually damaging my opponent.
-The castle is beyond incredible. Every second I spent there, I could feel the passion emitting from the developers. No words. It was perfect. The ambiance, the music, everything.
-Room of requirement was a great addition. Very fun to make potions, and collect beasts.

    Cons:
-The story was terrible. Except for one, the characters are not memorable. Any one of the random side events from Red Dead Redemption 2 has a better story than that of Hogwarts Legacy. The starting idea is good. The villains are not well-written. The characters are not well written. The dialogue is very bad-written. They are not realistic. The protagonist is just blank. Not as a silent protagonist though. For example, the Persona series have silent protagonists, but I find them to be likable, even only from their dialogue options. This protag's dialogue options also sucked.
-The open-world experience was not likable. It's extremely repetitive.
-The student experience is terrible. I hated how I had to collect ingredients to unlock spells. It made no sense story-wise and was not enjoyable gameplay-wise. I almost never felt like a student at Hogwarts.
-I despised the political correctness. I fully support LGBT. Some of my best friends are a part of the community. I have friends from various ethnicities and colors. I am also brown. However, the story takes place in 1890 England. They should not be at a point where they know not to assume someone's gender. They should not have controversies about pronouns. Trans people should not be normal in that period. There shouldn't be so many different races at such a major number. Even though this is not ok with me, it's a harsh reality. This majorly kills off immersion. If you want to do this, make a game that takes place in 2023, and I would absolutely be OK with that.

Even though I had so many negative comments, the atmosphere of the castle and the combat, never bored me. They were incredibly done. However, I am very biased. If I was not a Harry Potter fan, or if this was not a Harry Potter game, I would have rated it much lower. But, this was the dream of my childhood. It was very enjoyable and I religiously played it, getting 100% at 66 hours. Very nice job.

Alright, I was caught by surprise with this game.

When it was first announced, I didn't care much for it. Fantastic Beasts was a flop, and even though I'm a big fan of Harry Potter, I don't trust the games industry anymore. I thought the release date was much further away, so I only discovered it one month before release, and my interest started to grow slowly. After getting my hands on it, here are my thoughts:

The beginning of the game is not its strong point, especially if you expect something like the movies. But the more you play, the better the game becomes.

The main story was okay, but what really got me into the game were the relationship quests and how they were connected to the main storyline. Unfortunately, the influence of these quests - in the consequences factor - was literally irrelevant, but the atmosphere was there. The development of the characters could have been better, but following them on their journey was good enough. I also loved the way the developers approached the houses. In the movies, besides Gryffindor, most characters were one-dimensional and behaved according to the stereotypes of their houses. That's not the case here. As a critic, I must say that the conclusion of those side quests could be more unpredictable. Actually, I could say that about all of the main quest storylines.

Is the game difficult? It depends. It can be, but it's up to you. I played on hard and chose to use the minimum amount of potions as possible, including life. That way, three hits and I was dead. After getting used to the spells and the enemies, it becomes okay. All I needed was to understand the weaknesses of my opponents and pay attention.

Hogwarts is beautiful. Not as magical as in the movies, but pretty good. Exploring it is rewarding, and the way the developers placed chests and challenges was amazing. The open world surprised me a lot. I didn't expect such a huge place, with so many possibilities for exploration. Another thing that made me love this game was how much content is in it. A good example is the Room of Requirement. I lost count of how many times I thought it was over, but no, they just throw more and more content at you - and that happened even in the last stages of the game. Amazing. You know when you're playing a game that was made with love.

But there's something I still haven't talked about, and it can be a game-breaker for a lot of people: the optimization.

It's broken. I had to spend hours looking for mods to fix the game. After trying many of them, I found one: Ascendio 3.0. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't be writing this review, so a huge thanks to the modders. With the mod, I played the game with 45 fps locked at 1080p, with most settings on high. And it was beautiful - but obviously not as much as the requirements to play it suggest, since 16GB of RAM is not enough without a mod. Overall, I'm happy with the game. There's so much to talk about, but I'm getting tired of writing. I do recommend it, but be aware of its optimization problems. Maybe in a year, it will be playable without mods - but if you have a console, you can disregard this.
