A very realistic games, with one of the most fun campaigns in the world of gaming, be it at attacking an oasis or firing down from the top of a cliff at a german base in a iceberg. Great multiplayer, and great voice acting as well!

I played it with my dad when i was like 9 years old. My first Fps ever. To this day still best in many aspects of the genre. Underappreciated masterpiece.

Fellow AI prevents the player from using tactics, which was proclaimed as key feature of HD2. The game therefore fails in its basis - being a tactical action (I will rather play Max Payne2 when I want to play shooter and Hitman2 when I want to play stealth action). I will wait for a patch and hope it will fix all the crap.

A better AI and a different handling of wounds like in Flashpoint or Raven shield could have make this title perfect.

Bar none, the best WWII shooter released in recent memory. It's such a shame that all the slack jawed droolers who demand instant action and zero thought from a game will avoid this and play the inferior Call of Duty.

It's a great game. Has many bugs, but great playability and atmosphere cover them.

Great atmosphere, graphics and it's a FPS that really makes you think about your tactics, cos if you don't you'll get killed pretty quickly. A few bugs but overall I love this game.

Great gameplay, graphics, missions. The controls are easy to get used to. Learning curve may be higher than simple games because there are a lot of options in this game as how to play it. Its fun, but you can't just go in shooting and screaming. Must have patience my son.

Incredible game, realistic and attention to detail is mindblowing. This is a proper tactical shooter game, way better than all the rubbish you get now adays. I think that the metascore does not do this game justice, in fact it is way underrated. The only reason this game does not get a perfect 10 is because the control interface system is extremely cumbersome. If the interface was easier to use this game would have been an easy 10 out of 10. Not quite the oblivion of the shooter tactical genre, but not far away. This is a MUST PLAY GAME. Expand

Time I spent playing this game was great. It's awesome and probably the best game about The II World War. Of course I must agree that game isn't perfect because of low AI but it's still the game you should play. It shows how the real war looks like. H&D 2 has also great soundtrack and especially thanks to this we can feel the war.

H&D2 was the first tactical shooter game that I played and I loved it right away. I have to admit that in fact it was probably the first "World War II" video game that I've ever played. However, H&D2 was different from Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, in fact contained in itself more strategy and tactical processing.

H&D2 was the first tactical shooter game that I played and I loved it right away. I have to admit that in fact it was probably the first "World War II" video game that I've ever played. However, H&D2 was different from Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, in fact contained in itself more strategy and tactical processing.

There is no specific storyline in H&D2. The game plot's goal is to tell the story of British "Special Air Service" (SAS) units founded by David Stirling and retrace their operations during WWII from 1941 to 1945. So, similarly to Medal of Honor: Airborne, the plot it's not about specific characters and their development but mainly about historical facts and the WWII's context in which the game propagates. The war diary, sure, and some efficient cutscenes and military briefings, however, manage to almost give some kind of identity to the characters and a certain drama to the plot.

It's not really possible to put H&D2 in a specific genre, so "tactical shooter" is the one that comes closest. This is clear from the game's camera available in three different modes: first-person (certainly the most practical in-game), third-person (external weapons and clothing's observation) and isometric-tactical (battlefield observation). The game's tactical complexity can be distracting and discouraging to the player, leading to choose the "Lone Wolf" campaign mode (one-man operations as in Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell). Only once the game's tactical mode is understood, have learned to take advantage teammates' roles, and a bit of willpower, it's possible to enjoy H&D2 for what it's worth, with a full 4-men squad. Because it's true: there is nothing better than seeing your men unleash the assault in unison from a distant position with light machine guns, or divide them in two teams, one with two light machine gunners, and the other with two snipers. And by "seeing", I literally mean watching them fire themselves, lying in position and controlled by the AI, as they do battle. With 4 soldiers, the possibilities of approach are really many and the game requires patience, even when it's best mastered. It's possible to choose among 30 different soldiers, each one with his own stats (health, shooting efficiency, load capacity etc.) and specialist skills, like those of a medic who specializes in healing his companions more effectively. H&D2 also places great emphasis on pre-mission preparation and choice of equipment, including uniforms and extra gear such as shears for cutting fences. The available arsenal is quite vast, including many WWII's protagonist weapons of both Axis and Allies forces, but also some maybe less known to most people. Many missions take place in rather large environments and scenarios, which is why the game allows for various approaches. There are also secondary mission objectives, in addition to the primary ones, and a military rank-up system for teammates. The care in the faithful reproduction of fighting and war context, scenarios and operations is deep and laudable.

But it's not all good. The biggest problem is the game's AI, especially of teammates: often they get stuck in climbing over obstacles or turning around walls, sometimes they also ignore orders, breaking the game immersion and generating frustration. It's not totally disastrous but a better work had to be done. Also I found the "disguise system" not very satisfactory: H&D2 is about covert operations too and disguising is an important part of the experience. Very cool to wear a German officer or commander's uniform... but it's ridiculous and useless that a random German private can catch you out and blow the cover up; a rank-based disguise system like in 2006's Commandos: Strike Force, in which only an officer can catch out an officer, would have been far more preferable.

The game is almost 17 years old, so its graphics aged and not very well. However, especially in its release period, it's impossible not to appreciate an objective attention to detail in the weapons, uniforms, vehicles and scenarios that still transpires today and that makes it all in all still "nice" despite the years on the back of LS3D engine.

H&D2 is a game that I personally treasure and play since many years now. An example of in-depth PC gaming tactical shooter experience. An important European production, a game that requires patience and commitment, not perfect, but which in any case represents one of the best video games of its kind. If you love WWII video games, immersive tactical experiences and hardcore gameplay, H&D2 is a game to play, absolutely.

Another improvement is in the deliberate simplicity of the interface which is designed to keep the screen as uncluttered as possible and to issue commands with the minimum amount of keystrokes.

I'd certainly sign on for another tour of duty, especially if the guys who created my interface iron out some of the glitches. In all, I'd say this is a compelling World War II experience.
