    I like how low stakes the game is. It is simple. It is like a better version of minesweeper. 8/10. The no stakes guessing makes the game less frustrating.

    Hexcells is essentially an overall enhancement of Minesweeper. Where Minesweeper has mines, you have blue hexagons. Where Minesweeper has randomly generated puzzles that sometimes force you to guess, Hexcells has predesigned puzzles that always give you enough information to solve it without ever needing to guess.

Beyond just telling you how many hexes nearby are blue, you get information on if they're all connected or not. Vertical or diagonal columns get similar treatment.     A generally relaxing experience thanks to its calming music and lack of time limits, Hexcells is a game that even puzzle game novices can have a go at and feel a sense of accomplishment. Unfortunately, the levels aren't procedurally generated meaning the game has limited replay value and at only 2-3 hours long, it's a short game.

    Hexcells is brilliant at what it does! The regular version is hardly the most difficult puzzle game you have ever tried. But for some light satisfaction of crunching your brain it fits the bill perfectly. With its intuitive interface, relaxing music, and small but regular doses of gratification, it becomes addictive in just the right way for me. Always alluring enough to have me return,Hexcells is brilliant at what it does! The regular version is hardly the most difficult puzzle game you have ever tried. But for some light satisfaction of crunching your brain it fits the bill perfectly. With its intuitive interface, relaxing music, and small but regular doses of gratification, it becomes addictive in just the right way for me. Always alluring enough to have me return, never too obsessive to suck me in for hours on end (though it has certainly tried more than once!) It is a great way to take your mind off work over breaks and amply rewards your attention. Cannot wait to try the other two expansions in the series!… Expand

    Hexcells is, on the most basic level, a more sophisticated version of Minesweeper. You are given a layout of golden hex tiles, possibly with one or more of them already highlighted or flipped. Flipped tiles have numbers on them, and also labels indicating whether or not adjacent tiles which should be highlighted are continuous or non-continuous (or no designator at all). There are also rowHexcells is, on the most basic level, a more sophisticated version of Minesweeper.     Each puzzle mixes these up in a unique way to push you to solve it.

    Thinking about this game as a more sophisticated version of minesweeper is, I think, fairly ideal, because that is more or less what it is, and the function it serves. It is something to throw away a bit of time on, not sit down and play continuously.

    But even then, you’re not looking at it taking all that long to complete; the whole game takes less than two and a half hours to solve, and that’s assuming you’re trying to get a perfect score on every stage.

    It is about as fun as Minesweeper is, and I’d basically consider it filling that role in your game library.

    My advice? Pass. It isn’t a bad puzzle game, but it isn’t anything remarkable either. If you did get it as part of a bundle or something, it isn’t a terrible thing to install and just screw around with when you’d mess around with solitaire or minesweeper or whatever, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy this.    … Expand

    It is like the Minesweeper but it enhanced and there is that lucky factor suppressed. Music is fine. I really enjoyed it. If you are a fan of old Minesweeper, you should try it.

    A simple but somewhat challenging puzzle/logic game. I enjoyed it.
    It, on average, doesn't take too long to play. I would recommend it if you enjoy logic games.

    An excellently soothing and challenging puzzler, where minesweepers meets picross. Simple, elegant and amazing. It's not the longest of games, with only 36 puzzles, but with the sequals, Hexcells Plus and Infinite, which you can often buy in a package, there's a lot to play here.
