    This is an amazing game, it's an FTP first-person shooter that's set in the European Theater of WWII. You start as a standard infantryman, but as you increase in rank you can unlock new classes (like tank crewman, fighter pilot, recon, and paratrooper). The game also allows you to unlock new weapons and vehicles through both    NOTE: REVIEW MAY BE SUBJECT TO REVISION UPON FULL RELEASE

    This is an amazing game, it's an FTP first-person shooter that's set in the European Theater of WWII. You start as a standard infantryman, but as you increase in rank you can unlock new classes (like tank crewman, fighter pilot, recon, and paratrooper). The game also allows you to unlock new weapons and vehicles through both rank and by earning combat ribbons (basically an achievement system). There is also a place to get together with friends of the same class and form a squad so you can all play together (number of friends in you squad is dependent on your class, i.e. infantry can have six, while tanks can have three). You can also have multiple soldiers, so you can have a variety of classes to play with (I have an infantryman, a tank crewman and a fighter pilot).
    There is also a place where you can pay to unlock vehicles and weapons early (although for tank crewman, if you buy a heavy armor off the bat you will not be able to use it very often until you get to a rank where there are heavy armor squads).
    Another neat feature is you can unlock upgrades for your weapons, like a hair trigger for your guns that will increase ROF but decrease stability. Or for tanks and jeeps you can get infantry support crates (ammo and health, or anti-tank weapons).
    All in all, this is a great game and it's only in beta form. It has a great diversity of classes, weapons, and vehicles. If first-person shooters are your thing, then you should definitely try this game, and since it's free, it can't hurt to try it.    … Expand

    Fun game, especially like the generals side. This game has a lot of potential if they will just deliver. I think bigger battles would be nice aswell. -Ron

    This game really appeal to me as a gamer, i love the "realistic" gunfighting and historical maps.

    Love it! A game that developers dedicated to better game.

    The sound is amazing, battles are atractive, I can't stop to play.

    Only needs create more maps, more country soldiers and news battle fronts. Occur some lags, but at general this game is and will be amazing!

    This game is interesting, it can be fun at some times but super frusterating at others. Overall I like it, it could be more realistic I think but that can wait for a while. Pros: -Fun gameplay -Lots of weapons -Fun classes -Nice maps -Good graphics (If you have a good computer like mine, run it on high its amazing.)     I would love to recommend that sniper are a 1 shot kill from anywhere from 1 - 150 meters or so, then theres bullet drop off. Also upgrade the physics, body movements are super anoyying and unrealistic. Anddddd a medic class, it would be great to heal on the fly. Just make it like a medic station where you can heal yourself, but have it on a soldier that walks around with say 6 - 8 storage. Also, paratroopers need more room for there gear.

    Over all I think this is a good game, not completed yet obveously so I think that it still has room for improvement.

    Many bad comments here is about the pay to win. I play to this game since many month now and this problem is not annoying me at all, yes you can unlock weapons faster by paying but at the end, even if a player have a MG42 in his hand if he play like a noob this will make no    First of all keep in mind the game is in development and not released yet. And eventually i will unlock this weapon too by investing my time to unlock it.

    Other bad comments here speak about the fact that the game is not balanced. Please note that when you choose to join a game you have two battle type: Staggered battle and War. In a Staggered battle every faction possess the same things, if you opponent have light tanks, your faction also have light tanks, etc. The War options are not balanced simply because, as same as the real wars, they are managed by Generals (real players) that possess different skills and taking different decisions of involved troops. The results are unbalanced game, sometime hard game. Personally i love wars because this makes this game unpredictable and sometime hard but provide great fun or pain.

    Yes you can be right in your infantry boots and facing a Tank or be bombarded by a plane or hit by a sniper, this is the risk of the war. Every equipment or vehicles are unique with advantages and disadvantages, available upgrades with different outputs. I have a couple of character but my favorite is a tank crew and i played with my Panzer III facing Soviet T34 and got often raped but this was the case in WWII my tank was far less potent than a T34. Later i unlocked the Panzer IV and this problem was mostly solved (please note that the balance between Germans, US and Soviet tanks has been modified in the last patch).

    So in Heroes and Generals, and i think this is the thing that's make me love this game, this is an immersive shooter in the WWII environment. The evolution is slow and take time (something i personally like but i understand that others can dislike). I suggest to invest a 20$ for a veteran subscription (you will get 3 month of veteran subscription and get some gold left) if you want to make things go faster but don't buy weapons or don't invest to boost your ribbons, you can now (with the last patch) raise ribbon related to your carrier with in-game money (soldier Salary). This game is hard, you need to not simply press a button to fire and kill 50 people, you need to watch where you move, you need to think and work in team because you will probably not be able to take a point and keep it alone without support or reinforcement.

    By looking at other reviews, i see how they all think. Now this game requires patience, yes this is a pay to win game, but everything COSTS over the top so nobody spends their money... if so that's their problem. Also tolerance, this is a very difficult game, there are plenty times when i started i said i hated it. But i used my time, still am i have played 200 hours and am not far at all.By looking at other reviews, i see how they all think.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just started playing heroes and generals, its a great fps game based on world war 2 nations and weapons. The game is a little slow paced in terms of unlocking weapons and leveling up at first but once you reach level 5 or so it gets easier. There are 3 game modes for people playing as heroes. Encounter, Skirmish, and Assault. I recommend playing Encounter for a quick play, skirmish if you need xp or credits, and assault only if you have a solid 45 minutes to an hour. There are 3 main nations the United States, Germany and the Soviet Union. You can play a variety of different troop classes such as rifleman, paratrooper, recon, tanker, and pilot. The graphics could use some work but as of now they are fairly good. you can get support vehicles even if you aren't a tanker. if your playing as the United States then you can get a jeep with a machine gun mounted on the back, there's also some half-tracks. All in all this is a great game there is some room for improvement but I really like it and I think you will too!!!… Expand

    Not a perfect game, but the heavy negatives come from a time when this game was fresh and aggro. Now, it's a chilled out general, and is more forgiving in progression than ever.

    A breath of fresh air from the modern era shooters. This WWII shooter drops you in medium to large battlefields with outposts to attack and defend. The game is free to play so expect some micro transactions.

    I had been looking for a good WWII themed FPS when I saw a friend on Steam had Heroes and Generals. I saw that it was free and decided to give it a shot. I figured all I would waste is a few hours if I didn't like it. I've logged 36 hours of playtime at this point and I love it. The controls feel natural and make sense, the graphics are damn good considering what it is, and the game playI had been looking for a good WWII themed FPS when I saw a friend on Steam had Heroes and Generals. I saw that it was free and decided to give it a shot. I figured all I would waste is a few hours if I didn't like it. I've logged 36 hours of playtime at this point and I love it. The controls feel natural and make sense, the graphics are damn good considering what it is, and the game play is fun and easy to pick up. I love the realistic mechanics the game offers. Realism seems to be a priority with the developers and it shows.

    The game does have voluntary micro-transactions. You can buy gold which you can use to purchase either levels of ribbons (for skills and gear requirements), ranks (determines base hourly salary), and to purchase in-game gear and weapons. I've reached the 6th rank and I current'y have enough to purchase quite a bit in the game. The price points are weird, as a scope or pistol currently costs more than a jeep with a .30 cal machine gun. It helps to realize the price is not realistic or meant to be compared with any historical price/cost but rather with what you as a player are willing to pay. At this point I'd rather spend the two or three hours of playing that it takes to generate the in-game currency to buy these items rather than fork over what would take me less than an hour to earn in real-life.

    The only real draw back for me, and the only reason I don't give it a 10 is that it is Free to play. In-game I have to deal with reading arguments between teammates during game-play and team-killing hobbyists. While teammates don't take damage from friendly bullet fire, explosives are a different story. Friendly fire is inevitable in the game but there are those who join a skirmish simply to grab a panzerfaust and blowup a friendly tank or jeep as it spawns. You can't really get away from that with most games that are free to play though, so it's unavoidable with any of them.

    I'd recommend this game to anyone who likes a team-based FPS challenge, solid game play, and who has the patience to earn in-game gear rather than demand it be given to them simply for playing.

    I'd pay $5.00 a month or $40 one-time to have access to a "premium" server or other benefits. As it stands now that threshold is too high.    … Expand

    In latest update game has been balanced, stop your crying! MG-42 and Carbine downgraded and AVS upgraded.
    I think this game needs only good and optimized graphics, new guns, winter maps and dynamic weather.

    Я играл во все популярные игры по WWII более чем по 100часов для максимальной обьективности,в том числе в bf5.Теперь с уверенностью скажу,что H&G лучшее во что я играл. Я не понимаю людей,которые жалуются на донат..его нет!.. СОВСЕМ! Сейчас у меня наиграно 450 часов,есть по 10-15 прокачанных персонажей в каждой фракции,все в топ камуфляже.Куплены все танки и самолеты.Я не потратил НИЯ играл во все популярные игры по WWII более чем по 100часов для максимальной обьективности,в том числе в bf5.Теперь с уверенностью скажу,что H&G лучшее во что я играл.     И о преме:при том что денег уже реально некуда тратить,и даже при том что если играть хотя бы пару часов в день он окупается(25% бонус превышает стоимость месячного према) я его не покупаю и нахожусь почти всегда в первой тройке,на войне.
    Так что нехрен хейтить если у вас руки с жопы,либо мамка не дает денег на комп.
    Есть конечно и недостатки!Основной,это голосовой чат..его отсутствие(Буквально в каждой катке бывает ситуация,когда срочно надо что-то сказать тимейту:"стой,там мина","снайпер в башне","притормози,я выхожу","не едь,там танк",когда писать это не успеешь - позно уже для адресата и сам сдохнешь пока строчишь))Хотя бы такой чат как в расте и пабге отлично бы вписался.И второй,это мелкие баги(например раз в 20-30часов ты застрянеш в колючке или между машинами)медленное развитие игры( Мало карт,мало фракций,мало нового оружия,но это уже скорее следствие как раз таки фритуплей модели.Разрабы не получают с игры денег.Лучшим выбором стало бы введение в игру скинов и я бы первый закупился на 10-20$ минимум.    … Expand

    oke i cant speak for the generals side of the game but it fps side of the game is getting better with each update in my opinion with the new tank mechanics makes it harder to play tanker and there are barly any pay to win espects in this game even the new player can beat a good sniper if they now what there doing

    The combination of RTS and FPS was a great idea. Combat has an RNG mechanism but it's okay. It's not P2W and all weapons are somewhat balanced. The only thing is the developers are not releasing anything worthwhile and haven't in the past few years. The community is fun because there are clans. It's one of the few FPS games with decent sized maps.

    The idea is fresh and game is constantly updating. Brings feeling of old Call of Duty games. Graphics is nice and weapons (payed and free) are balanced.

    The game is very balanced during staged battle (no effect on the war). However, like in real wars, 'War' missions are not usually balanced. You can buy whatever you want for the game because it won't affect it. So it is not a Pay2Win game. If you work as a group and build up a defensive or offensive strategy you will probably win, it is not about money but    Revised my previous review.

    Germans are often better organized than the USA players. I prefer the USA and I nearly always play as a US soldier but the 'everyone for himself' is very annoying. (It's not the game but the players.)

I have not payed a single penny or cent towards the makers of this game, and I still find it very enjoyable. It is a fun, authentic WW2 game in which you can pay to unlock things faster, but its not an impossible grind to get the things you want. Any way it is aIf you are having second thoughts about whether you should try this FREE game or not due to the negative reviews, do not worry. I have not payed a single penny or cent towards the makers of this game, and I still find it very enjoyable.     Played with it many hours and I must admit that I really enjoyed it. It combined FPS shooter, MMO, flight simulator, tank battle and strategy game all together in an holistic way. Some may argue it lacked at all this, but for me, everything was as much as I liked.

You need to be reserved in spending silver credits and do the things right. I will now point some features for this game that are good and bad and put them in balance.

    Good Features:
    -Diversity in everything related to weapons, attachments, vechicles, cammouflages and more;
    -World War II Theme suited for the ones that are looking for a good MMO-FPS game based on this subject;
    -Some historical accuracy;
    -Game-Modes are decent, only 4 but good enough for this kind of game. You can play from close-quarters battles to real-large battles that involves: vehicles, tanks, planes, recon teams, paratroopers etc.;
    -You have the opportunity to play different roles like tanker, recon, paratrooper, pilot, infantry in a First Person perspective (so I want to call this game an FPS). You can control tanks and take part in intense battles of 2 WWII major armies;
    -Maps are made well on overall but there are some little problems of balance;
    -Gameplay is fun but here depends on how you see the things and I think for this game is a chance of 50% to like the gameplay...for me I found it fun;
    -Sound is decent but could be better;
    -Graphics is not amazing/stunning at all but it is a clean and decent one...so graphics for this game are decent;
    -Optimization is great and especially on storage as long as this game occupy under 1.3 GB on disk;
    -Is a simple game, easy to learn and to play;
    -Developers work for their game, you get often updates and events. Often you receive free Veteran membership and gold that can boost your XP/Credits gained;
    -Player ranking system where you get placed in matchmaking according to what rank you are. This feature also help you unlock some extra credits, 500 gold and some veteran days(premium account to boost);
    -Team spirit if you have luck of good teammates;

    Bad Features:
    -Grind could be hard and could make you quit the game easily. Although you have to play it for a while untill you unlock some items and untill game becomes very enjoyable and fun...this could make you see the game as a pay2win. Also when you have veteran membership you level up decent and this problem is resolved;
    -Some mechanics are poor and I will give one example: when you crouch/prone you can't stand up back by pressing jump button like in other FPS games and you need to press the same button you crouched/proned twice to get up back;
    -Game could be very frustating when you buy something and you discover you don't like it or is not good/suited for you. That is because when you buy someting you don't get enough information on how is going to be or what minuses has in comparisson with what you already have. This is very true when you switch career from infantry to a recon for example and you find out after bought and spend well worked credits on this career that you have minus 4 slot points for your weapons to carry and maybe you don't like this. They should add a test or preview feature for everything you buy in this game or you should have the right to get the things back along with the money spend within 1 hour of playing with the specific bought weapon/career;
    -Balance is a problem at least in some battles;
    -I have the feeling that game forces you to buy and play how it wants sometimes. For example when you get the first tank at US for free you can't do armor damage ribbon just because the first tank has only machine-guns so you can't make damage with a cannon and you are forced to buy expensive tanks to unlock that ribbon and that's because stuart is slow too due to low damage from the main cannon;
    -Some items are really expensive. I think a handgun should cost lower than almost 80000 credits;
    -It is a game where you have to spend real-money or your time. Your choice;
    -We need more maps especially on Skirmish and why not on Encounter. Could be good if we can have some specific climate maps based on snow or rain;

    I will stop here and I will take in account that game is currently in BETA and things may be slightly better in the future. It is a free2play game and is not bad at all. You can try it and the most important thing is that you are not forced to spend real-money in-game so you can play it for free entirely but you need to spend some time then. I chose to recommend this title as long as I had fun by playing it and you can try it to for making an opinion about it. If you are looking for a nice FPS based on World War II you should give this a try. (70/100 for me)    … Expand

    Pretty good game, could be better if it wasn't so Pay to win. But regardless of that fact, I do enjoy some of the game play, especially the tank combat.

It's a silly and fun game, you can pickup multiple panzerfaust to destroy tanks very easily and dominate the game, spin around a tank with a bicycle and not getNot really F2P, very grindy and has microtransactions and subscriptions.     Battlefield but with less production. It's nice to have a dynamic real-time map. Gameplay is meh and optimization is pretty bad. Still, I really enjoy playing.

    Начинал играть еще как понял с альфа версии в акурат начала 2014г тогда игра была прям хороша, но она была в бете, мы с друзьями еще думали как бета тест закончится то она станет платной, и играли каждый раз как последний, упарываясь, советов в игре сразу не добавили поэтому многие русские пошли воевать за ось, против ЭТИХ КАПИТАЛИСТОВ! Так же поступил и я, у меня была мечта докачаться доНачинал играть еще как понял с альфа версии в акурат начала 2014г тогда игра была прям хороша, но она была в бете, мы с друзьями еще думали как бета тест закончится то она станет платной, и играли каждый раз как последний, упарываясь, советов в игре сразу не добавили поэтому многие русские пошли воевать за ось, против ЭТИХ КАПИТАЛИСТОВ! Так же поступил и я, у меня была мечта докачаться до генерала и получить штурмгевер 43г, там еще была система что докачиваясь за простого солдата можно было выбрать в последствии танкиста, летчика и т.д. а я целеноправлено шел к генералу! Потом эту систему упрастили и всем выдали бойцов разных классов сразу, вообщем шли годы, я все реже и реже возвращался сюда, надеялся на какие нить изменения, ну и приблизиться к своей цели, некоторые друзья с которыми я играл, поотваливались, в итоге ближе к настоящему доигрывал я в основном сам (ген сам себя не докачает) ну и как вы поняли, я достиг своей цели! прошло почти 2014-2021 (еще в прошлом году закончил, а отзыв пишу только щас) 8 лет, жесть, вроде нормально, но играть уже не с кем, да и как с кем то играть за позиции гена? Да и кому это нада, интерес потерял уже, достиг мечты детства так сказать добился чего хотел, теперь можно и закончить.....… Expand

    But still has some very good points. Integrating planes, tanks, regular vehicles and infantry into a game is great. Takes a lot of skill if you don't lay out lots of money to win easily. Have had a lot of fun in the first 30 or so matches, but sooner or later you come up against enemies that have spent big. You've got a rifle and a jeep and some grenades. The enemy infantry have machine guns. The tank you can get for free has 9mm armour and a machine gun. The enemy you're facing has heavy tanks.
    So if you don't mind spending $$ on this game, go ahead and enjoy it. Spend up front and enjoy how easy it is to beat those players trying to play for free.
    Obviously this isn't one of those games where you can only pay for cosmetic enhancements, it's very unfairly aimed at high-paying players only.    … Expand

    I can’t comment on the general and RTS side of gameplay because I haven’t really experienced any of it. Progression however is painfully slow and could most certainly use with an increase in order to get the ball rolling for new players. Graphics could definitely be improved, it feels slightly dated and the pictures displayed on the store page show a greater graphical superiority when compared to actual gameplay.
