    Very good game. I enjoyed playing this game a lot. I strongly recommend this.

    I definitely can't call this game a garbage or pay-to-win game. But this game is a very crude and carelessly sculpted game. That's the biggest downside. The producers tried to make money by doing things, but they did not quite succeed in what they wanted. Although the game is not heavily pay-to-win but people who deposit will usually be a few steps ahead of you (with veteran membership). II definitely can't call this game a garbage or pay-to-win game. But this game is a very crude and carelessly sculpted game. That's the biggest downside. The producers tried to make money by doing things, but they did not quite succeed in what they wanted. Although the game is not heavily pay-to-win but people who deposit will usually be a few steps ahead of you (with veteran membership). I can say that the mechanics of the game are the worst shooter mechanics I have ever seen in my life. The mistake of the producers at this point is this: They completely screwed up the combat system, which they tried to support with animations just for the sake of making the game look realistic. This gives you an extremely boring gaming experience. Not to mention the Tanker and Pilot options. This is the highest rating I can give this game. 3… Expand

    The combination of RTS and FPS was a great idea. Combat has an RNG mechanism but it's okay. It's not P2W and all weapons are somewhat balanced. The only thing is the developers are not releasing anything worthwhile and haven't in the past few years. The community is fun because there are clans. It's one of the few FPS games with decent sized maps.

    Начинал играть еще как понял с альфа версии в акурат начала 2014г тогда игра была прям хороша, но она была в бете, мы с друзьями еще думали как бета тест закончится то она станет платной, и играли каждый раз как последний, упарываясь, советов в игре сразу не добавили поэтому многие русские пошли воевать за ось, против ЭТИХ КАПИТАЛИСТОВ! Так же поступил и я, у меня была мечта докачаться до генерала и получить штурмгевер 43г, там еще была система что докачиваясь за простого солдата можно было выбрать в последствии танкиста, летчика и т.д. а я целеноправлено шел к генералу! Потом эту систему упрастили и всем выдали бойцов разных классов сразу, вообщем шли годы, я все реже и реже возвращался сюда, надеялся на какие нить изменения, ну и приблизиться к своей цели, некоторые друзья с которыми я играл, поотваливались, в итоге ближе к настоящему доигрывал я в основном сам (ген сам себя не докачает) ну и как вы поняли, я достиг своей цели! прошло почти 2014-2021 (еще в прошлом году закончил, а отзыв пишу только щас) 8 лет, жесть, вроде нормально, но играть уже не с кем, да и как с кем то играть за позиции гена? Да и кому это нада, интерес потерял уже, достиг мечты детства так сказать добился чего хотел, теперь можно и закончить.....… Expand

    I got 600+ playtime and I can say game barely changed since 2016.
    Game engine is bad, mechanics are crude.
    Don't waste your time on it like i did.

    Beware the game is pay to win and even if you pay to win the devs can and will just remove the things you PAYED REAL MONEY FOR from the game and not refund you its theft at its finest

    I wrote about the game before, but deleted the review for some unknown reason. Well, this game has many issues: awful graphics, development stalemate, bad map design, poor sound design, grind, boring gameplay.

    From upsides... the idea of the game itself maybe? Anyways, just skip it and play something else.

    Played with it many hours and I must admit that I really enjoyed it. It combined FPS shooter, MMO, flight simulator, tank battle and strategy game all together in an holistic way. Some may argue it lacked at all this, but for me, everything was as much as I liked.

    This game surprises me only by the introduction as a military multiplayer game in the details themselves. Weapons and mechanics are excellent. But the game itself isn't that awesome, the atmosphere at all is very pixelated that it's awkward due to the graphics of playing the game, not only is this game pure PAY-TO-WIN, it's already better to play Battlefield and a lot more fun to discover. In general, the game has to be played a lot to get money for which to buy only a small weapon and other things, you have to take care of ammunition and other things that are annoying. So of course the game is not hard to play quite and easy, but the point is that you have a lot of gossip to unlock what to buy a new thing with which you would like to shoot, as if the developers wanted a lot of money.

    In my opinion, the game has that kind of interesting design, but the bottom line is that the atmosphere and graphics are very awkward, and the plus is that it gets such a PAY-TO-WIN. The better buy BF series will definitely be more exciting. I would dedicate myself to this game 5/10.    … Expand

    Battlefield but with less production. It's nice to have a dynamic real-time map. Gameplay is meh and optimization is pretty bad. Still, I really enjoy playing.

    Not a perfect game, but the heavy negatives come from a time when this game was fresh and aggro. Now, it's a chilled out general, and is more forgiving in progression than ever.

    Lazy developers! Physics out of this world! Haystacks that stop tanks. crazy bugs (losing control of your char where he wonders around for 10sec), Open for hackers to rampage freely. And the last thing that happened...i had about 25 kills in one game and got results 2kills/3 deaths. That was the last straw. Attention, Avoid at all cost! Better play Minecraft!

    oke i cant speak for the generals side of the game but it fps side of the game is getting better with each update in my opinion with the new tank mechanics makes it harder to play tanker and there are barly any pay to win espects in this game even the new player can beat a good sniper if they now what there doing

    Es gibt mehrere Spiele, die ich mir wünsche, darunter ein paar Battlefield Teile. Als ich von Heroes & Generals hörte, beschloss ich, es auf Steam herunterzuladen und solange zu spielen, bis ich die Battlefield Teile habe, die ich mir wünsche. Doch das Spiel war so verbugt, dass ich es nach der 1. Runde sofort löschte und es hier von mir nur einen Punkt erhält.

    Reto Moto is the Ewe Boll of game developers. Heroes and Generals is the most fundamentally broken game I have ever played, and I have been playing online since the days of Kali back in the mid 90s.

    I have 500 hours playing this game. Back when I first started playing the game, it was decent and had promise. Back then, we had the luxury of the biggest problem of the game being the Pz38T being over powered due to the Stuart not being able to penetrate it - way back when those were the two top tier tanks.

    However there is a laundry list of issues, so many that I could not name them all in my Steam review (which unfortunately I am not allowed to link here). I don't want to be vague either, but due to the character limitation I can't go into in-depth detail. Essentially name the game mechanic and it is utterly and fundamentally broken.

    I am being generous and give this game a single point for being somewhat fun to play for a few hours. However once you notice all the glaring issues, and the terrible game design, you will not have fun playing soon enough, and definitely regret it if you spent any money on the game.

    Many games like War Thunder, or others make changes and the player base is constantly crying that the sky is falling and the game is dying. Well Heroes and Generals is definitely those sentiments incarnate. Today on a Saturday afternoon there was a grand total of 6 war battles starting. It was so bad that not only did I wait and wait for a match, the match maker kept throwing me into a match where the resources were depleted so that I could not spawn and thus could not participate. That is beyond broken game design.

    If you think Anthem, or similar games were sloppy and had lazy development, you have not seen anything yet. H and G has been out for years and is the worst game of all time. It is a shame because I will miss my AVS-36...    … Expand

    This game had a lot of potential, but I'm pretty disappointed with how unrealistic the combat is, it shouldn't take 3 .30 caliber bullets to drop an enemy, and a head shot SHOULD **** KILL AN ENEMY PERIOD!     its a genaric pay to win ww2 shooter with some interisting aspects but most of it is bad. slow prograssion system except if you pay. it amazes me that this game is'nt made by EA.

    Я играл во все популярные игры по WWII более чем по 100часов для максимальной обьективности,в том числе в bf5.Теперь с уверенностью скажу,что H&G лучшее во что я играл. Я не понимаю людей,которые жалуются на донат..его нет!.. СОВСЕМ! Сейчас у меня наиграно 450 часов,есть по 10-15 прокачанных персонажей в каждой фракции,все в топ камуфляже.Куплены все танки и самолеты.Я не потратил НИЯ играл во все популярные игры по WWII более чем по 100часов для максимальной обьективности,в том числе в bf5.Теперь с уверенностью скажу,что H&G лучшее во что я играл. Я не понимаю людей,которые жалуются на донат..его нет!.. СОВСЕМ!     И о преме:при том что денег уже реально некуда тратить,и даже при том что если играть хотя бы пару часов в день он окупается(25% бонус превышает стоимость месячного према) я его не покупаю и нахожусь почти всегда в первой тройке,на войне.
    Так что нехрен хейтить если у вас руки с жопы,либо мамка не дает денег на комп.
    Есть конечно и недостатки!Основной,это голосовой чат..его отсутствие(Буквально в каждой катке бывает ситуация,когда срочно надо что-то сказать тимейту:"стой,там мина","снайпер в башне","притормози,я выхожу","не едь,там танк",когда писать это не успеешь - позно уже для адресата и сам сдохнешь пока строчишь))Хотя бы такой чат как в расте и пабге отлично бы вписался.И второй,это мелкие баги(например раз в 20-30часов ты застрянеш в колючке или между машинами)медленное развитие игры( Мало карт,мало фракций,мало нового оружия,но это уже скорее следствие как раз таки фритуплей модели.Разрабы не получают с игры денег.Лучшим выбором стало бы введение в игру скинов и я бы первый закупился на 10-20$ минимум.    … Expand

    Overall this game can be good but it doesn't want to be don't recommend if you grinding ain't you're thing    … Expand

    Game winning tactics include squatting in ever present bushes and shrubs, squatting in building corners and chasing down and destroying tanks on your bicycle.

    There might be a great game somewhere in there but I'm not sure how focused the developers are on improving basic gameplay.    … Expand

    This game really had all the right markers to be a fun , entertaining , engaging game you can play with your friends for a long time .

    Than the updates started rolling in , the first ones were qualitatively questionable , silly me thought " oh well this is a new dev team , give them time to figure things out ."
    Fast forward from 2013 to 2018
    Litteraly anything this game had going for it got "down-upgraded"
    things that had some problems like the squad system got hit by the assigned update so bad that they dont function properly to this day - This type of knee jerk untested fixes to run rampant in this game
    The hit detection was never really great and a bit clunky but it worked good enough for the early state of the game , today every single automatic weapon scores 75% to 90% headshot kills ... without having to aim - this is not a exaggeration , its something the community had to figure out in collaborative effort , simply because Reto.Moto never shares any negative statistics - shortly after the community crumbled into toxicity , split bases , trolls and people using alternative accounts to manipulate the RTS campaing
    Balance problems pretty much everyone complained about went unheard for years
    A massive outcry forced Reto.moto into action to tone down sniper rifles that could oneshot you across the map hitting you in the tip of your foot . For some reason they went out of their way now turn automatics into the same troublemaker , some speculate to boost the sales on those weapons after everyone bought their sniper rifle - this became apparent as time goes on because Overpowered weapons remained in their state till the saturation of the gun was achieved and sales went back , suddenly those guns get hit with massive crippling nerfs while another batch of weapons mysteriously recieves a massive buff
    Speaking of dodgy buisness schemes like this - reading steam reviews where people claimed to get their in game account banned for expressing or pointing out problems in a constructive manner even on other platforms like youtube or steam revies left a sour taste in my mouth but got repressed as "to evil to be true " however , turns out this has happened and still happens today - the most active part of this 30 man development team appear to be the comunity managers and other devs responsible for dev to playerbase communication , constructive threads get locked and deleted if asked more than once . Players they deem as annoying get temp banned even if they dont violate the rules or the TOS of the game - up to a point where a forum regular from the first day constantly gets temp banned from both the forums and the game for showing up the absurdity of their decision , for example presenting a table top magnifier as new , cheaper and more reliable mountable scope for guns after the buy cost and maintainnce cost of scopes got massively increased
    Overall the dev monitoring on the forums is very strick , very unproductive and often quite rude even from the devs that sometimes get nailed down on the nonsense they tell .
    Hardly any of them play their own game , up to a point where a placeholder system that was implemented to balance out the spawn system apparently broke with an update and then went un noticed for more than 1 year
    Other parts of the dev team seem to be for decoration or are in a dormant 1 year sleep most of the time - the last update they proudly announced was a TOS change and the inclusion of a long overdue anti cheat engine

    To summarize the problem , the game had huge potential and massive help from its own community - how 30 professional devs and years of development can leave a game in a less complete state than in its alpha days is is beyond me

    As of the time of this review the game is at its lowest player base since alpha december 2014 - the devs completely vanished from any publicity to work on "mission critical backend stuff" but more likely to refill and train new devs after a bunch of the devs left probably because of some behind the scene problem - the game is in its dying breath after being neglected for a long time and the abstinence of the devs to train new personel will probably be too long to get the game out of the downward spiral of bad reviews , old problems and shrinking playerbase .

    Really really sad to see a game with such a huge potential fail so miserably because of hubris and lack of care.    … Expand

    This is not a bad game. But it's far from good. It has been under development for several years and the last 2, it has become obvious that the game is in a constant decline, something you should keep in mind when you decide to put money on it, which at least in the beginning, you will have to.

    1. Three factions, USA, Nazi Germany and the USSR, are competing in the European theatre of war, and the players who have chosen one of the above mentioned factions are competing in both RTS map and the FPS. This is a unique experience, but due to several reasons, it gets repetitive and more of a time consuming than fun experience. That said, the gun play is decent, the variety of weapons and vehicles acceptable and the maps, although few and with the same elements (buildings, stairs, trees etc) recycled again and again, beautifully and carefully designed for combined arms battles.

    2. One problem with the game is the fact that it is undepopulated. Not only there are not enough players to fill the battles that are initiated in the RTS part of the game, but the three factions are not equally populated as well. This has lead to Nazi Germany being the most populated faction (for various reasons not completely unrelated to devs promoting in the early stages the German faction, or even political ones with several edgy kids or nazi sympathizers filling this faction's ranks), with many hardcore supporters playing the game for years and USA and USSR struggling with a playerbase consisted mostly from newbs and a handful of older players. What happens in the end is Nazis winning the vast majority of the battles they play, frustrating any new player who struggles with the starting rifle against heavily modded characters and weapons, even tanks/planes etc, forcing him to either pay to grind, quit the game or simply join the winning German wagon. An easy solution to this would be to merge the USA and USSR faction as the Allies factions, but the devs refuse to even see that as a real issue.

    3. If that wasn't enough, Nazis winning most battles they fight in the FPS part, the unique element of H&G, the combination of fps and rts elements proves to superficial. Winning battles in FPS does not mean winning the war. So what happens in the end is everybody being unhappy and criticizing the developers. Nazis for winning battles but not the war blame the RTS, Soviets and Americans who usually win the wars lose most of the battles they fight.

    4. There are several problems in the game that could easily be fixed but takes months or even years to even be acknowledged by the devs. And the reason for this is the fact that most of them don't actually play the game. They don't understand what competitive gaming means and they just design things for looking good.

    5. Lastly, the major issue with the game that repels new players and discourages even experienced players, is the insane grinding. I understand that what in the very end keeps players busy and money flowing is grind, but the problem with Heroes and Generals is that the grind is completely idiotic. It is not attached to META gaming, like capturing objectives etc, but it can be and most times is, something like a side quest, forcing players to do anything else rather than help their team to win. This become obvious in games where experienced players, usually for the Nazi side, fight against new players who grind their gear and characters. It ends up in a slaughterhouse which is not fun even for the winning experienced players.
    The problem with the insane grind does not end there though. It forces players to invest money and time into one faction and not to all three. This creates a very toxic and heavily biased community who promote their faction's interests even against the game itself.

Well, if you are willing to spend hours running around to grind a badge which will save you from dying in one shot from snipers hundreds of meters away, if you are not getting frustrated for dying over and over again with your semi automatic rifle against automatic weapons, scoped snipers, tanks and airplanes, invulnerable to your weapons, then yes. Go for it, after ~two weeks you will enjoy the game, for several months ahead. Until you quit for good due the lack of maps and content and the generally repetitive gameplay.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just started playing heroes and generals, its a great fps game based on world war 2 nations and weapons. The game is a little slow paced in terms of unlocking weapons and leveling up at first but once you reach level 5 or so it gets easier. There are 3 game modes for people playing as heroes. Encounter, Skirmish, and Assault. I recommend playing Encounter for a quick play, skirmish if you need xp or credits, and assault only if you have a solid 45 minutes to an hour. There are 3 main nations the United States, Germany and the Soviet Union. You can play a variety of different troop classes such as rifleman, paratrooper, recon, tanker, and pilot. The graphics could use some work but as of now they are fairly good. you can get support vehicles even if you aren't a tanker. if your playing as the United States then you can get a jeep with a machine gun mounted on the back, there's also some half-tracks. All in all this is a great game there is some room for improvement but I really like it and I think you will too!!!… Expand

    I can’t comment on the general and RTS side of gameplay because I haven’t really experienced any of it. Progression however is painfully slow and could most certainly use with an increase in order to get the ball rolling for new players. Graphics could definitely be improved, it feels slightly dated and the pictures displayed on the store page show a greater graphical superiority when compared to actual gameplay.
