    First few hours might seem ok. You can use semi auto rifle or smg, 3 factions to chose from. 3 maps available at first, games feel quite balanced.

    Then, as you rank up, you are thrown into games with big boys. You will still have just your gun (maybe slightly upgraded) and few grenades but suddenly you're facing tanks, armored cars, planes, snipers that kill you with one shot etc.
    And that isn't even the worst part. You spend your last credits on Anti-tank launcher to have any way of fighting back, maybe buy some mines as well. You jump into a game and quickly spot lots of tanks just shooting everywhere, destroying your teammates. You go for a nice flank and blow them up with your launchers and mines.
    Without enemy tanks shelling at them, your teammates can progress and cap the points, pushing enemies back. You win the game and feel like the real hero!

    Sounds good?

    Then comes the repair bill. You will probably ask: "What do you mean? What repair bill?"
    Oh, you didn't know? It's this cool, innovative feature, that isn't explained very well in the game either.
    Using your equipment cots money. After a game you have to repair your gun, it's modifications, replenish ammo, grenades, rockets, mines etc. You won't notice it at first, but eventually you will realise "I have no more grenades!" and then you have to pay.

    You pay with in-game currency. You can't buy it with $$, it's earned after playing games. No P2W **** here.
    Your actions will earn you some money, plus you get a salary if you played 50% of the game or at least 10 minutes. Salary is based on your rank.

    It still sounds quite good, even if the idea of paying for bullets in a shooter game feels strange.

    Very soon you realise first problem - I'm not earning enough credits. What costs me so much?
    Short answer: everything.
    You are earning maybe 3k per game. Weapon mods cost 20k+, shovel (melee weapon) 14k, binoculars - over 30k, new weapon 60K+. Each weapon mod for bolt action is around 50k. Single use of mine - 1k.

    Imagine this: new game, your team is destroyed by enemy tanks. You grab AT launcher and flank them. 3 shots later, enemy tank is gone. That's around 1,5k you just used. Destroy one more tank and you will not get any profit in this round. This can't be real, can it?

    How can you boost your income and be able to afford anything new?
    Buy veteran membership that will boost your xp gain (get new ranks and higher salary quicker) and earn extra credits for every fight.

    Someone might say you can still play without spending rl money, but if you do that you need to do the following thing to earn credits:
    - pick weapons without any mods
    - jump into games just to grind credits

    That means: not using grenades at all. Ignore the explosives and weapon mods.
    Enemy tank killing your mates? Ignore it. It's too expensive to blow him up.

    When you grind money, you make yourself very weak on purpose. You're the worst equipped guy on your team just to save enough money for later.

    There is no point of playing this game without veteran membership subscription. They might as well add in-game message when you try to blow up enemy tank "Destroying enemy tanks is feature reserved only for veteran membership owners." or show you an info "You just wasted xxx credits." after each grenade used.    … Expand

    While the game could've been a 5, it has horrible network issues. Playing on a server with "green" ping, I routinely see my tank shots fly straight through the enemy tank, as if it is not there. No "Armor too Thick" or "Impact angle too high" messages, just does nothing. These issues might not be visible for infantry, where you just assume you miss, but seeing a nice shell tracer go straight through makes the issue obvious.

    The Pay2Win system consists of a lengthy grind to progressively unlock more powerful weapons. Players earn 10 levels of badges through gameplay, and one of the last badges (like 8-9 unlocks next tier item). For example, light tank 7 or so unlocks Stuart tank for the US, while light tank 9 unlocks first medium tank. There's a crapton of grinding in an AWFUL M2 tank. While it looks like a regular tank from a side, it actually has 2 MG turrets that rotate about 80 degrees, meaning as a driver, you simply cannot look right.

    There is a shortcut of paying about 8 dollars per weapon and 13 dollars per premium weapon (ex: sniper rifle). The grind is LONG, really long.

    Unsurprisingly, the German faction is significantly more populated and is fairly overpowered in terms of tanks and MG42s. Even the login screen says that there are too many germans.

    The game looks about the same as battlefield 2, - rather flat terrain without grass rendering more than 50 meters away, shadows are pretty nice though.

    The game features several vehicles for each side - 3 types of tanks (light, medium, heavy), tank destroyers, planes and transport. None of these really stand out, and the tanks feel really clunky, I have not found the zoom button, so light tanks have better zoom than medium ones. There's practically no bullet drop of any kind - you point your gun and the shell lands exactly where you are looking at.

    In order to spawn with vehicle, the player needs to buy a tank crewman, or grind a rifleman to tier 3. For a pilot, the grind is to tier4, for a sniper to tier 6. Each soldier has to unlock same items, which is where my biggest gripe with the game is.

    The spotting system is fairly good - after placing crosshairs on an enemy for a few seconds, a static marker appears in that place for 10 seconds or so. This means it's really hard to "shoot red things" through cover.

    Lack of maps really starts to show, even after a few hours of gameplay - you will be fighting over the same city, same villages, same factory, and the same single airfield OVER, and OVER, and OVER, ad nauseum, with Germans winning 90% of the games. While some maps are large, they are not complex enough to warrant different tactics. Tanks camp the same hill on airfield, people shoot out of the same windows.

    There's minimum destructible environments- tanks can crush wooden and wire fences.

    Overall, a mediocre Pay2Win shooter, there are much better ones, like PlanetSide 2 (where you get a whole continent of a map), WarThunder, where planes actually fly like planes    … Expand

    Es gibt mehrere Spiele, die ich mir wünsche, darunter ein paar Battlefield Teile. Als ich von Heroes & Generals hörte, beschloss ich, es auf Steam herunterzuladen und solange zu spielen, bis ich die Battlefield Teile habe, die ich mir wünsche. Doch das Spiel war so verbugt, dass ich es nach der 1. Runde sofort löschte und es hier von mir nur einen Punkt erhält.

    I wrote about the game before, but deleted the review for some unknown reason. Well, this game has many issues: awful graphics, development stalemate, bad map design, poor sound design, grind, boring gameplay.

    From upsides... the idea of the game itself maybe? Anyways, just skip it and play something else.

    Reto Moto is the Ewe Boll of game developers. Heroes and Generals is the most fundamentally broken game I have ever played, and I have been playing online since the days of Kali back in the mid 90s.

    I have 500 hours playing this game. Back when I first started playing the game, it was decent and had promise. Back then, we had the luxury of the biggest problem of the game being the Pz38T being over powered due to the Stuart not being able to penetrate it - way back when those were the two top tier tanks.

    However there is a laundry list of issues, so many that I could not name them all in my Steam review (which unfortunately I am not allowed to link here). I don't want to be vague either, but due to the character limitation I can't go into in-depth detail. Essentially name the game mechanic and it is utterly and fundamentally broken.

    I am being generous and give this game a single point for being somewhat fun to play for a few hours. However once you notice all the glaring issues, and the terrible game design, you will not have fun playing soon enough, and definitely regret it if you spent any money on the game.

    Many games like War Thunder, or others make changes and the player base is constantly crying that the sky is falling and the game is dying. Well Heroes and Generals is definitely those sentiments incarnate. Today on a Saturday afternoon there was a grand total of 6 war battles starting. It was so bad that not only did I wait and wait for a match, the match maker kept throwing me into a match where the resources were depleted so that I could not spawn and thus could not participate. That is beyond broken game design.

    If you think Anthem, or similar games were sloppy and had lazy development, you have not seen anything yet. H and G has been out for years and is the worst game of all time. It is a shame because I will miss my AVS-36...    … Expand

    Beware the game is pay to win and even if you pay to win the devs can and will just remove the things you PAYED REAL MONEY FOR from the game and not refund you its theft at its finest

    I got 600+ playtime and I can say game barely changed since 2016.
    Game engine is bad, mechanics are crude.
    Don't waste your time on it like i did.

    Pay2win this is all I have to say really, you can buy great guns, sure you can grind for them but you will be weak as **** for weeks while paid players will kick your ass due to the game's matchmaking caring only about level, not about what a user has unlocked with money.

    I have gave this game a decent try and it was fun in the beginning but after a while it shows it`s true face game is heavily unbalanced you often get wiped by tanks and your team has none aimboting snipers sit around having 35/5 K/D ratio and no matter what they say to you it is pay to win game
    such a shame for this game with a lot of potential

    The balance in this game is nonexistent. It is the definition of pay to win....The anti cheating software is very old. Cheaters run rampant in this game. Even when cheating is not involved it will seem like it as you will be put into combat as a brand new player against armor you can not penetrate. Against planes you cannot hit.     You can hit someone in the chest 5 time and they will not die, as they stand still and reload and shoot you once and you are dead. If it is a bad game it will be from chest to chest closeness and they will get a head shot while aiming at your feet.

    The grind is silly, there are games that are f2p that have grind and its ok, annoying maybe but ok (Warframe), this is not one of them..... the grind is just stupid..... you want to use a grenade, it cost you money, ammo, cost you.... take damage.. yup it costs you to repair....A wrench cost more than a gun, a gun cost more than my mother's house..... I'm trying to say its just silly.....

    Every game is one sided..... might be your side that wins (at early levels its US loses every game (just about every game in the AM hours of the US) Germany wins, Soviets I have less data so no opinion.) It might be the enemy that wins, but it is one sided. That is not fun... being spawn camped is not fun...

    You will start many games that have already started snowballing for one side, they have most of the objectives, they outnumber you, they outclass/experience you, and you have a limited number of spawns (objective stars) which THEY ALLOW YOU TO KEEP so they can farm kills.... ya i used all caps to point that out... it sucks....it's common.... people will leave the game because it is unwinnable and new players will enter and run to their deaths as the enemy team keeps farming them.... then again more players leave the losing team, and new ones show up to be killed as they are surrounding your spawn point with tanks you cant penetrate the armor of but are more than willing to mow you down.....

    This game really had all the right markers to be a fun , entertaining , engaging game you can play with your friends for a long time .

    Fast forward from 2013 to 2018
    Litteraly anything this game had going for it got "down-upgraded"
    things that had some problems like the squad system got hit by the assigned update so bad that they dont function properly to this day - This type of knee jerk untested fixes to run rampant in this game
    The hit detection was never really great and a bit clunky but it worked good enough for the early state of the game , today every single automatic weapon scores 75% to 90% headshot kills ... without having to aim - this is not a exaggeration , its something the community had to figure out in collaborative effort , simply because Reto.Moto never shares any negative statistics - shortly after the community crumbled into toxicity , split bases , trolls and people using alternative accounts to manipulate the RTS campaing
    Balance problems pretty much everyone complained about went unheard for years
    A massive outcry forced Reto.moto into action to tone down sniper rifles that could oneshot you across the map hitting you in the tip of your foot . For some reason they went out of their way now turn automatics into the same troublemaker , some speculate to boost the sales on those weapons after everyone bought their sniper rifle - this became apparent as time goes on because Overpowered weapons remained in their state till the saturation of the gun was achieved and sales went back , suddenly those guns get hit with massive crippling nerfs while another batch of weapons mysteriously recieves a massive buff
    Speaking of dodgy buisness schemes like this - reading steam reviews where people claimed to get their in game account banned for expressing or pointing out problems in a constructive manner even on other platforms like youtube or steam revies left a sour taste in my mouth but got repressed as "to evil to be true " however , turns out this has happened and still happens today - the most active part of this 30 man development team appear to be the comunity managers and other devs responsible for dev to playerbase communication , constructive threads get locked and deleted if asked more than once . Players they deem as annoying get temp banned even if they dont violate the rules or the TOS of the game - up to a point where a forum regular from the first day constantly gets temp banned from both the forums and the game for showing up the absurdity of their decision , for example presenting a table top magnifier as new , cheaper and more reliable mountable scope for guns after the buy cost and maintainnce cost of scopes got massively increased
    Overall the dev monitoring on the forums is very strick , very unproductive and often quite rude even from the devs that sometimes get nailed down on the nonsense they tell .
    Hardly any of them play their own game , up to a point where a placeholder system that was implemented to balance out the spawn system apparently broke with an update and then went un noticed for more than 1 year
    Other parts of the dev team seem to be for decoration or are in a dormant 1 year sleep most of the time - the last update they proudly announced was a TOS change and the inclusion of a long overdue anti cheat engine

    To summarize the problem , the game had huge potential and massive help from its own community - how 30 professional devs and years of development can leave a game in a less complete state than in its alpha days is is beyond me

    As of the time of this review the game is at its lowest player base since alpha december 2014 - the devs completely vanished from any publicity to work on "mission critical backend stuff" but more likely to refill and train new devs after a bunch of the devs left probably because of some behind the scene problem - the game is in its dying breath after being neglected for a long time and the abstinence of the devs to train new personel will probably be too long to get the game out of the downward spiral of bad reviews , old problems and shrinking playerbase .

    Really really sad to see a game with such a huge potential fail so miserably because of hubris and lack of care.    … Expand

You will have to wait a long time to get a slight upgrade for that one weapon, and even when you unlock something, you may not be able to buy it. Pay for refills, pay for repairing equipment, pay for upgrades etc.    It is both pay to enjoy and to win. I refuse to pay for a product that has been in Beta much too long.

    You will spend many, many hours with one weapon, and a grenade. You will have to wait a long time to get a slight upgrade for that one weapon, and even when you unlock something, you may not be able to buy it.

    Pay for refills, pay for repairing equipment, pay for upgrades etc. everything is about money whether F2P or not. It seems the Beta is merely an excuse to keep the developers earning a salary.

    So you level up enough to change career from grunt to tanker: you have to pay for this. You get an awful low rank tank that seems better off used as a machine gun and a taxi for grunts. You regret the career change. No matter, you can pay to go back to grunt.

    You join a side, one of three, Russian if you want the best grunt gun - rapid sub machine gun that snipes at range too... You join a fight, and ride shotgun, or ride a bicycle into battle, or you simple run a minute or two to get closer to the front line, which is where many things can happen:

    1. You die being sniped, run over, shot, or bombed before you even see an enemy.
    2. You get to the front line, maybe get a kill or two, or none and back to 1.
    3. You are put into a queue to wait for an open slot to rejoin, or a few seconds depending on player numbers.
    4. You literally grind to get a new 'badge' that says you get one kind of boost, but you really can't tell if it works or not.
    5. You grind to get a new weapon you simply cannot afford to buy.
    6. You get an upgrade, but still get a 3-17 kill death ration.
    7. You are in a game with your teammates, all grunts with no anti-tank capability, and your enemy is made up of anti infantry tanks... You spend 15 minutes feeding the enemy XP.
    8. You actually pay real cash and experience faster levelling, quicker unlocks, and a more satisfying game.

    There is no Free to Play. There is only free to keep the servers populated, and give the paying customers target practice with easy XP.

This combination of people is guaranteed to be the worst experience ever for someone just looking for a nice, competitive environment.

    I've been playing this game for about 8 months. The concept is exciting with a RTS and an FPS together based on WW2. The execution is terrible and it keeps getting worse with each new build. The game has limited maps. The servers are unreliable, the factions are unbalanced, the ping or fps (or both) often make the matches unplayable, the game is filled with bugs and the devs don't seem toI've been playing this game for about 8 months. The concept is exciting with a RTS and an FPS together based on WW2. The execution is terrible and it keeps getting worse with each new build. The game has limited maps. The servers are unreliable, the factions are unbalanced, the ping or fps (or both) often make the matches unplayable, the game is filled with bugs and the devs don't seem to be working on any of the important issues with it. It's free to play but the grind to get anywhere is excruciatingly slow and if you want to play the RTS side you're going to have to pay unless you're willing to grind on the FPS side for months before you get there. Once there expect all of your hard earned time to go down the toilet in a flash as other players waste the precious war funds you've spent months earning. Servers crash regularly and if your units are in a battle when the servers go down there is no refund of the war funds you lost in the battle. The devs hold weekly devstreams where they pretend to address issues in the player community but mostly drink and answer random questions. This company will never take this game to the level that it could go and it's such a shame. You are better off spending your time and or money elsewhere. And for those who keep saying that this game is still in beta, it's been in beta for years and will still be in beta when it dies out.… Expand

    Mediocre WW2 shooter with HEAVY Pay2Win model - basically no progress whatsoever without spending cash. So if you are looking for something fun with a real fair Free2Play model, Heroes & Generals is NOT that game. Also a lot of unbalance in the game mechanics with a lot of spawn camping and similar fun-killing bugs and flaws. Just not worth it...

    I don't agree with what many other claim, that the game is P2W. However there are the option to run a premium account, and as in all other F2P games, certain advantages are given for buying premium.     That being said, my feeling of the game, is that is has spiralled downwards in the last couple of years. It has been a long long time, since I enjoyed a game of H&G.

    Pro's.
    It's a WWII shooter, with vehicles like BF, but with a more realistic(ish) feeling to it.
    You can play up to 6 friends in a squad
    You can customize many many things, even type of ammunition
    There is a solid amount of hours, grinding to unlock, so you don't end up in the end-game within a week.

    Con's
    Even though you are supposed to be able to play with 5 friends in a squad, you damn better be patient for that to be happening, or just play with a single friends, matchmaking is to **** You can easily wait 15-20 minutes for a 6 man squad, all hours of the day.
    Realism has taken a backseat to balancing mechanics, like spotting markers
    Every customization cost huge amount of in-game credits, and even your basic gear wears down, and has to be "repaired" I know that if my rifle had been that sensitive, I'd better bring a boxing glove instead

    Matchmaking with friends is an unbelievable hassle, with so many things going wrong before you can just play a simple game.
    Developers seem to be quite sensitive about criticism of their game, and seen as Danes are the main company behind it, that feels strange to me as a Dane.

    Conclusion, at this point, all my friends and I have abandoned this game, they keep updating it, but every time it seems to be getting worse.

    The game itself, offers a great motivation to make a difference, due to the combination of FPS and that you can make a difference in the big picture, and control "assault teams" (spawn and equipment) on the strategic European map and thereby make a war effort in winning the war for either the Axis og Allies.

    The FPS part, looks good (not perfect) and it takes a bit of time to learn the starters weapon. Once you get acquainted with those, you really start to make a difference. Over time, more weapons are unlocked, not that they are much better than the others, but they make a difference in one vs one battles. You can also unlock modifications to the weapons making them more deadly in the way you use them. Besides this, the game offers a good variety of vehicles and planes which has an impact on who wins the game. Its allot more tactical than your standard FPS game, so if you are more a strategic and teamplayer person, this is the game you want to spend time with.

    The strategic map part where you can move around your personal assault teams of troops, varying from, recon, tanks, infantry, paratroopers, mechs, motorized and tanks makes a big difference once deployed in the battle. Its great fun to play with your own assault team, and increases the motivation to win. You gain xp from that as well.

    The bad part of the game, is that before the Rommel build which came out in August, allot of players had invested money and time in creating assault teams. With the Rommel build, the whole setup was changed and most people who had invested in this would have to play allot of hours to regain enough "command points" to be able to use their assault teams again. When I say allot, I mean for instance I had to spend +50 hours (with premium, and game bonuses), to be able to just get one command point. And that was not even enough to be able to use my old assault teams. To give another comparison, we were 21 friends playing the game almost everyday and had fun together. After the build, we were 3 players left.

    I surely hope that the developer of this game, can see the large decrease in both amount of players, and the amount of time played ingame since the build came out. I hope they will find a retention patch to try and help people back into the game. But lets wait and see.    … Expand

    Lazy developers! Physics out of this world! Haystacks that stop tanks. crazy bugs (losing control of your char where he wonders around for 10sec), Open for hackers to rampage freely. And the last thing that happened...i had about 25 kills in one game and got results 2kills/3 deaths. That was the last straw. Attention, Avoid at all cost! Better play Minecraft!

    This game is cool, I know. The only big problem in here is RAGE. You just sometimes cannot play peacefully because of this. Because of annoying players non stop killing you. So, or you play the game and get ready for half of your time rage or don't touch it.

I added how much you would need to just buy top hardware for each soldier, for one soldier per class, per faction: $5,000. That's right, U.S. Dollars, equivalent to about 4,000 euro.

    It's not pay-to-win because, you will eventually discover that your starter weapon is pretty much the best all-around gun in the game, no matter which faction you choose. There are of course situationally better weapons (SMGs for short range, Bolt-Action for long range, etc.) There are tons of upgrades for each weapon and they make a huge difference.

    But it's free, and if you try it, chances are you will find this game is pretty fun, and that with some better equipment, and the larger battles that await as you rank up, the game REALLY CAN get epic. And it can, rather it *COULD*. Except it will disappoint and frustrate you, but we will start with the good.

    THE GOOD:
    - Recreates the WW2 atmosphere with realistic weapons and vehicles
    - 3 major factions, the USA, Germany and the USSR
    - Minor factions are promised to be added
    - The maps are big
    - The war mode: thousands of players participate simultaneously in a huge campaign
    - There are tons of unlocks
    - Weapons and vehicles can be upgraded
    - The skill ceiling is fairly high
    - There can be 3-way battles
    - Teamwork with friends or with a clan is a complete blast
    - It runs decently and the FPS game very rarely crashes

    THE BAD:
    - The game is designed to make you wait, run, die, wait again, run again, die again. So that you really really want to unlock that jeep, that bike, that whatever vehicle that will prevent that god-forsaken running insanity.

    - The game is designed to make you want the equipment, the guns, the upgrades, and these cost credits. You must also unlock them first, and this requires XP. You get both of those by playing the game. But not by doing things to WIN the game. This disrupts everything.

    - The game trains players to play a single-player game ("Teammates? Nah, there's just ME, MYSELF AND I" type of attitude. And if you think it's bad in other games, wait until a teammate spawns the very last jeep of the game, drives away from spawn, leaving 8 teammates stranded who are all begging for a lift, and goes to crash himself against a tree, destroying the jeep and all hope of winning. This is one example from an endless list.)

    - The game used to have bonuses for doing smart things. But no more. So, that objective that was just captured, there is pretty much no bonus at all for defending it, while there is massive XP & Credits for capturing the next. So? Nobody defends. They all rush on to the next, and if the team loses the previous? Well, we will cap it again! Yay, more XP & Cr! Except that's not winning, that's losing while making the most XP & Credits, which is exactly what the game trains the players to do.

    - You are playing as a tanker? Good luck! Your "friendly" infantry will blatantly ignore the anti-tank dudes in the process of killing you and your tank. They don't care that without tanks they will lose. XP & Cr for "ME ME ME ME ME", that's all that counts.

    - The list of ways this game trains the players to commit the most destructive insanity is nearly endless.

    CONCLUSION
    This is a game unlike any other, combining MMO, FPS and RTS elements. It has so many things going for it, too bad it has even more going against it.

    The worst is, the developers could EASILY fix EVERY SINGLE THING that makes this game an exercise in extreme frustration.

    Maybe its community acts with such extreme retardation because the game is free to play, and it attracts morons and other un-gifted people that could never hold a job or function in society in the first place. Or maybe it's the game design that encourages it and this er... more easily influenced segment of the population goes for it to the max. Either way, the community sucks to the max and beyond.

    The frustration makes you throw money at the game so you can end up enjoying it, but sadly your teammates are all farming XP, Credits and ribbons, and not actually playing the battle like a battle should be played.

    As such, this game is like crack cocaine: it promises greatness, but that promise can never be realized, it only results in emptying your wallet and make you curse humanity.

    If you have a large group of friends to team up with though, you can largely ignore the destructive, blatant, wanton stupidity and have a great time.    … Expand

Fully automatic weapons that kill you within half a second own the short range combat. And scoped weapons just makes it impossible to cross a field without suddenly dying. It is completely imbalanced. BF109s roam the skies and bomb whatever's in their way, often spawncamping. And lol I've pumped over 600 AA shells from quad .50cal guns and nothing's happened to the 109. All I get is "Penetrated Armor" and he'll just have to drop a bomb to take out my AA placement.     Then there is the whole hitbox issue that they KNOW about for 2-3 years and is still there.
    Basically you POINT BLANK unload a clip in the guy;s head and then he turns around like nothing happened and 1 shots you. Hitbox randomness lol.

    Stay away from this putrid garbage of if you MUST try it - AVOID American faction like the plague. This faction never EVER wins ( i have like 1 win every 78 loses or something and I usually TOP the scoreboard in "points" for capture and objectives ) because every **** retard runs around "sniping" and basically being a total **** while the nazis mow us down.

Just make it like a medic station where you can heal yourself, but have it on a soldier that walks around with say 6 - 8 storage. Also, paratroopers need more room for there gear.

    Over all I think this is a good game, not completed yet obveously so I think that it still has room for improvement.

    I had been looking for a good WWII themed FPS when I saw a friend on Steam had Heroes and Generals. I saw that it was free and decided to give it a shot. I figured all I would waste is a few hours if I didn't like it. I've logged 36 hours of playtime at this point and I love it. I saw that it was free and decided to give it a shot. I figured all I would waste is a few hours if I didn't like it. I've logged 36 hours of playtime at this point and I love it. The controls feel natural and make sense, the graphics are damn good considering what it is, and the game play is fun and easy to pick up. I love the realistic mechanics the game offers. Realism seems to be a priority with the developers and it shows.

    The game does have voluntary micro-transactions. You can buy gold which you can use to purchase either levels of ribbons (for skills and gear requirements), ranks (determines base hourly salary), and to purchase in-game gear and weapons. I've reached the 6th rank and I current'y have enough to purchase quite a bit in the game. The price points are weird, as a scope or pistol currently costs more than a jeep with a .30 cal machine gun. It helps to realize the price is not realistic or meant to be compared with any historical price/cost but rather with what you as a player are willing to pay. At this point I'd rather spend the two or three hours of playing that it takes to generate the in-game currency to buy these items rather than fork over what would take me less than an hour to earn in real-life.

    The only real draw back for me, and the only reason I don't give it a 10 is that it is Free to play. In-game I have to deal with reading arguments between teammates during game-play and team-killing hobbyists. While teammates don't take damage from friendly bullet fire, explosives are a different story. Friendly fire is inevitable in the game but there are those who join a skirmish simply to grab a panzerfaust and blowup a friendly tank or jeep as it spawns. You can't really get away from that with most games that are free to play though, so it's unavoidable with any of them.

    I'd recommend this game to anyone who likes a team-based FPS challenge, solid game play, and who has the patience to earn in-game gear rather than demand it be given to them simply for playing.

    I'd pay $5.00 a month or $40 one-time to have access to a "premium" server or other benefits. As it stands now that threshold is too high.    … Expand

    I think this game needs only good and optimized graphics, new guns, winter maps and dynamic weather.

    you will be stuck with your noob pea shooter for a few weeks while p2w neckbeards kill you instantly

    after you just walked 2 miles to get to the objective... then you walk again and die again...

    i dont see how anyone can continue to play this game withought paying it is frustrating as hell

    The idea is fresh and game is constantly updating. Brings feeling of old Call of Duty games. Graphics is nice and weapons (payed and free) are balanced.

    The game is very balanced during staged battle (no effect on the war). However, like in real wars, 'War' missions are not usually balanced. You can buy whatever you want for the game because it won't affect it. So it is not a Pay2Win game.     Germans are often better organized than the USA players. I prefer the USA and I nearly always play as a US soldier but the 'everyone for himself' is very annoying. (It's not the game but the players.)

    Other bad comments here speak about the fact that the game is not balanced. Please note that when you choose to join a game you have two battle type: Staggered battle and War. In a Staggered battle every faction possess the same things, if you opponent have light tanks, your faction also have light tanks, etc. The War options are not balanced simply because, as same as the real wars, they are managed by Generals (real players) that possess different skills and taking different decisions of involved troops. The results are unbalanced game, sometime hard game. Personally i love wars because this makes this game unpredictable and sometime hard but provide great fun or pain.

    Yes you can be right in your infantry boots and facing a Tank or be bombarded by a plane or hit by a sniper, this is the risk of the war. Every equipment or vehicles are unique with advantages and disadvantages, available upgrades with different outputs. I have a couple of character but my favorite is a tank crew and i played with my Panzer III facing Soviet T34 and got often raped but this was the case in WWII my tank was far less potent than a T34. Later i unlocked the Panzer IV and this problem was mostly solved (please note that the balance between Germans, US and Soviet tanks has been modified in the last patch).

    So in Heroes and Generals, and i think this is the thing that's make me love this game, this is an immersive shooter in the WWII environment. The evolution is slow and take time (something i personally like but i understand that others can dislike). I suggest to invest a 20$ for a veteran subscription (you will get 3 month of veteran subscription and get some gold left) if you want to make things go faster but don't buy weapons or don't invest to boost your ribbons, you can now (with the last patch) raise ribbon related to your carrier with in-game money (soldier Salary). This game is hard, you need to not simply press a button to fire and kill 50 people, you need to watch where you move, you need to think and work in team because you will probably not be able to take a point and keep it alone without support or reinforcement.

    Good Features:
    -Diversity in everything related to weapons, attachments, vechicles, cammouflages and more;
    -World War II Theme suited for the ones that are looking for a good MMO-FPS game based on this subject;
    -Some historical accuracy;
    -Game-Modes are decent, only 4 but good enough for this kind of game. You can play from close-quarters battles to real-large battles that involves: vehicles, tanks, planes, recon teams, paratroopers etc.;
    -You have the opportunity to play different roles like tanker, recon, paratrooper, pilot, infantry in a First Person perspective (so I want to call this game an FPS). You can control tanks and take part in intense battles of 2 WWII major armies;
    -Maps are made well on overall but there are some little problems of balance;
    -Gameplay is fun but here depends on how you see the things and I think for this game is a chance of 50% to like the gameplay...for me I found it fun;
    -Sound is decent but could be better;
    -Graphics is not amazing/stunning at all but it is a clean and decent one...so graphics for this game are decent;
    -Optimization is great and especially on storage as long as this game occupy under 1.3 GB on disk;
    -Is a simple game, easy to learn and to play;
    -Developers work for their game, you get often updates and events. Often you receive free Veteran membership and gold that can boost your XP/Credits gained;
    -Player ranking system where you get placed in matchmaking according to what rank you are. This feature also help you unlock some extra credits, 500 gold and some veteran days(premium account to boost);
    -Team spirit if you have luck of good teammates;

    Bad Features:
    -Grind could be hard and could make you quit the game easily. Although you have to play it for a while untill you unlock some items and untill game becomes very enjoyable and fun...this could make you see the game as a pay2win. Also when you have veteran membership you level up decent and this problem is resolved;
    -Some mechanics are poor and I will give one example: when you crouch/prone you can't stand up back by pressing jump button like in other FPS games and you need to press the same button you crouched/proned twice to get up back;
    -Game could be very frustating when you buy something and you discover you don't like it or is not good/suited for you. That is because when you buy someting you don't get enough information on how is going to be or what minuses has in comparisson with what you already have. This is very true when you switch career from infantry to a recon for example and you find out after bought and spend well worked credits on this career that you have minus 4 slot points for your weapons to carry and maybe you don't like this. They should add a test or preview feature for everything you buy in this game or you should have the right to get the things back along with the money spend within 1 hour of playing with the specific bought weapon/career;
    -Balance is a problem at least in some battles;
    -I have the feeling that game forces you to buy and play how it wants sometimes. For example when you get the first tank at US for free you can't do armor damage ribbon just because the first tank has only machine-guns so you can't make damage with a cannon and you are forced to buy expensive tanks to unlock that ribbon and that's because stuart is slow too due to low damage from the main cannon;
    -Some items are really expensive. I think a handgun should cost lower than almost 80000 credits;
    -It is a game where you have to spend real-money or your time. Your choice;
    -We need more maps especially on Skirmish and why not on Encounter. Could be good if we can have some specific climate maps based on snow or rain;

    I will stop here and I will take in account that game is currently in BETA and things may be slightly better in the future. It is a free2play game and is not bad at all. You can try it and the most important thing is that you are not forced to spend real-money in-game so you can play it for free entirely but you need to spend some time then. I chose to recommend this title as long as I had fun by playing it and you can try it to for making an opinion about it. If you are looking for a nice FPS based on World War II you should give this a try. (70/100 for me)    … Expand

Just make it like a medic station where you can heal yourself, but have it on a soldier that walks around with say 6 - 8 storage. Also, paratroopers need more room for there gear.

The game is a little slow paced in terms of unlocking weapons and leveling up at first but once you reach level 5 or so it gets easier. There are 3 game modes for people playing as heroes. Encounter, Skirmish, and Assault. I recommend playing Encounter for a quick play, skirmish if you need xp or credits, and assault only if you have a solid 45 minutes to an hour. There are 3 main nations the United States, Germany and the Soviet Union. You can play a variety of different troop classes such as rifleman, paratrooper, recon, tanker, and pilot. The graphics could use some work but as of now they are fairly good. you can get support vehicles even if you aren't a tanker. if your playing as the United States then you can get a jeep with a machine gun mounted on the back, there's also some half-tracks. All in all this is a great game there is some room for improvement but I really like it and I think you will too!!!… Expand

Three factions, USA, Nazi Germany and the USSR, are competing in the European theatre of war, and the players who have chosen one of the above mentioned factions are competing in both RTS map and the FPS. This is a unique experience, but due to several reasons, it gets repetitive and more of a time consuming than fun experience. That said, the gun play is decent, the variety of weapons and vehicles acceptable and the maps, although few and with the same elements (buildings, stairs, trees etc) recycled again and again, beautifully and carefully designed for combined arms battles.

    2. One problem with the game is the fact that it is undepopulated. Not only there are not enough players to fill the battles that are initiated in the RTS part of the game, but the three factions are not equally populated as well. This has lead to Nazi Germany being the most populated faction (for various reasons not completely unrelated to devs promoting in the early stages the German faction, or even political ones with several edgy kids or nazi sympathizers filling this faction's ranks), with many hardcore supporters playing the game for years and USA and USSR struggling with a playerbase consisted mostly from newbs and a handful of older players. What happens in the end is Nazis winning the vast majority of the battles they play, frustrating any new player who struggles with the starting rifle against heavily modded characters and weapons, even tanks/planes etc, forcing him to either pay to grind, quit the game or simply join the winning German wagon. An easy solution to this would be to merge the USA and USSR faction as the Allies factions, but the devs refuse to even see that as a real issue.

    3. If that wasn't enough, Nazis winning most battles they fight in the FPS part, the unique element of H&G, the combination of fps and rts elements proves to superficial. Winning battles in FPS does not mean winning the war. So what happens in the end is everybody being unhappy and criticizing the developers. Nazis for winning battles but not the war blame the RTS, Soviets and Americans who usually win the wars lose most of the battles they fight.

    4. There are several problems in the game that could easily be fixed but takes months or even years to even be acknowledged by the devs. And the reason for this is the fact that most of them don't actually play the game. They don't understand what competitive gaming means and they just design things for looking good.

    5. Lastly, the major issue with the game that repels new players and discourages even experienced players, is the insane grinding. I understand that what in the very end keeps players busy and money flowing is grind, but the problem with Heroes and Generals is that the grind is completely idiotic. It is not attached to META gaming, like capturing objectives etc, but it can be and most times is, something like a side quest, forcing players to do anything else rather than help their team to win. This become obvious in games where experienced players, usually for the Nazi side, fight against new players who grind their gear and characters. It ends up in a slaughterhouse which is not fun even for the winning experienced players.
    The problem with the insane grind does not end there though. It forces players to invest money and time into one faction and not to all three. This creates a very toxic and heavily biased community who promote their faction's interests even against the game itself.

    6. So, should you play the game or not? Well, if you are willing to spend hours running around to grind a badge which will save you from dying in one shot from snipers hundreds of meters away, if you are not getting frustrated for dying over and over again with your semi automatic rifle against automatic weapons, scoped snipers, tanks and airplanes, invulnerable to your weapons, then yes. Go for it, after ~two weeks you will enjoy the game, for several months ahead. Until you quit for good due the lack of maps and content and the generally repetitive gameplay.    … Expand

You can also have multiple soldiers, so you can have a variety of classes to play with (I have an infantryman, a tank crewman and a fighter pilot).
    There is also a place where you can pay to unlock vehicles and weapons early (although for tank crewman, if you buy a heavy armor off the bat you will not be able to use it very often until you get to a rank where there are heavy armor squads).
    Another neat feature is you can unlock upgrades for your weapons, like a hair trigger for your guns that will increase ROF but decrease stability. Or for tanks and jeeps you can get infantry support crates (ammo and health, or anti-tank weapons).
    All in all, this is a great game and it's only in beta form. It has a great diversity of classes, weapons, and vehicles. If first-person shooters are your thing, then you should definitely try this game, and since it's free, it can't hurt to try it.    … Expand

    Played with it many hours and I must admit that I really enjoyed it. It combined FPS shooter, MMO, flight simulator, tank battle and strategy game all together in an holistic way. Some may argue it lacked at all this, but for me, everything was as much as I liked.

Сейчас у меня наиграно 450 часов,есть по 10-15 прокачанных персонажей в каждой фракции,все в топ камуфляже.Куплены все танки и самолеты.Я не потратил НИ ЦЕНТА,на счету более 3 милионов.Я в шоке с рагулей,которые пишут что нельзя играть без доната.Убежден,что вы играете ногами либо на калькуляторах.Так как во первых,всех новичков закидают отдельно(до определенного уровня),во вторых можно продолжать играть в аркаду,где нет опытных игроков,они там только иногда качают нож либо пистолет)) В третьих,"донатное оружие"...что блять??это у вас идиотов,полуавтомат с пулей и стволом(1-2часа игры) или "о святые"авс и стг??которые без према и усилителей открываются за 7-10часов со средними навыками игры в шутеры.А прем,кстати,дают новичкам!
    И о преме:при том что денег уже реально некуда тратить,и даже при том что если играть хотя бы пару часов в день он окупается(25% бонус превышает стоимость месячного према) я его не покупаю и нахожусь почти всегда в первой тройке,на войне.
    Так что нехрен хейтить если у вас руки с жопы,либо мамка не дает денег на комп.
    Есть конечно и недостатки!Основной,это голосовой чат..его отсутствие(Буквально в каждой катке бывает ситуация,когда срочно надо что-то сказать тимейту:"стой,там мина","снайпер в башне","притормози,я выхожу","не едь,там танк",когда писать это не успеешь - позно уже для адресата и сам сдохнешь пока строчишь))Хотя бы такой чат как в расте и пабге отлично бы вписался.И второй,это мелкие баги(например раз в 20-30часов ты застрянеш в колючке или между машинами)медленное развитие игры( Мало карт,мало фракций,мало нового оружия,но это уже скорее следствие как раз таки фритуплей модели.Разрабы не получают с игры денег.Лучшим выбором стало бы введение в игру скинов и я бы первый закупился на 10-20$ минимум.    … Expand

    oke i cant speak for the generals side of the game but it fps side of the game is getting better with each update in my opinion with the new tank mechanics makes it harder to play tanker and there are barly any pay to win espects in this game even the new player can beat a good sniper if they now what there doing

    Battlefield but with less production. It's nice to have a dynamic real-time map. Gameplay is meh and optimization is pretty bad. Still, I really enjoy playing.

    Not a perfect game, but the heavy negatives come from a time when this game was fresh and aggro. Now, it's a chilled out general, and is more forgiving in progression than ever.

    This game surprises me only by the introduction as a military multiplayer game in the details themselves. Weapons and mechanics are excellent. But the game itself isn't that awesome, the atmosphere at all is very pixelated that it's awkward due to the graphics of playing the game, not only is this game pure PAY-TO-WIN, it's already better to play Battlefield and a lot more fun to discover. In general, the game has to be played a lot to get money for which to buy only a small weapon and other things, you have to take care of ammunition and other things that are annoying. So of course the game is not hard to play quite and easy, but the point is that you have a lot of gossip to unlock what to buy a new thing with which you would like to shoot, as if the developers wanted a lot of money.

    In my opinion, the game has that kind of interesting design, but the bottom line is that the atmosphere and graphics are very awkward, and the plus is that it gets such a PAY-TO-WIN. The better buy BF series will definitely be more exciting. I would dedicate myself to this game 5/10.    … Expand

    The combination of RTS and FPS was a great idea. Combat has an RNG mechanism but it's okay. It's not P2W and all weapons are somewhat balanced. The only thing is the developers are not releasing anything worthwhile and haven't in the past few years. The community is fun because there are clans. It's one of the few FPS games with decent sized maps.

    Начинал играть еще как понял с альфа версии в акурат начала 2014г тогда игра была прям хороша, но она была в бете, мы с друзьями еще думали как бета тест закончится то она станет платной, и играли каждый раз как последний, упарываясь, советов в игре сразу не добавили поэтому многие русские пошли воевать за ось, против ЭТИХ КАПИТАЛИСТОВ! Потом эту систему упрастили и всем выдали бойцов разных классов сразу, вообщем шли годы, я все реже и реже возвращался сюда, надеялся на какие нить изменения, ну и приблизиться к своей цели, некоторые друзья с которыми я играл, поотваливались, в итоге ближе к настоящему доигрывал я в основном сам (ген сам себя не докачает) ну и как вы поняли, я достиг своей цели! прошло почти 2014-2021 (еще в прошлом году закончил, а отзыв пишу только щас) 8 лет, жесть, вроде нормально, но играть уже не с кем, да и как с кем то играть за позиции гена? Да и кому это нада, интерес потерял уже, достиг мечты детства так сказать добился чего хотел, теперь можно и закончить.....… Expand

    I definitely can't call this game a garbage or pay-to-win game. But this game is a very crude and carelessly sculpted game. That's the biggest downside. The producers tried to make money by doing things, but they did not quite succeed in what they wanted. Although the game is not heavily pay-to-win but people who deposit will usually be a few steps ahead of you (with veteran membership). II definitely can't call this game a garbage or pay-to-win game. I can say that the mechanics of the game are the worst shooter mechanics I have ever seen in my life. The mistake of the producers at this point is this: They completely screwed up the combat system, which they tried to support with animations just for the sake of making the game look realistic.     I can’t comment on the general and RTS side of gameplay because I haven’t really experienced any of it. Progression however is painfully slow and could most certainly use with an increase in order to get the ball rolling for new players. Graphics could definitely be improved, it feels slightly dated and the pictures displayed on the store page show a greater graphical superiority when compared to actual gameplay.
