Join them as they make their way through a costume parade, a dirty, scary museum, a haunted hotel, Dracula’s castle and a church that’s been turned into a Halloween event. Find cash and exchange it for gifts. There are plenty of tricks along the way but also plenty of treats. Halloween was never this fun!
If there’s one constant is that every Christmas or Halloween Emma and Mike will spend the day across town soaking up the holiday season. Hey why not? Their parents don’t mind no adult supervision so why should we? Those two must be the kid versions of pub crawl champions because while not battling ghost pirates this year they have as shown above all their Type 2 Diabetes bases covered. Those expecting the typical spookiness from this genre may be surprised by Halloween: Trick to Treat 2’s (2015) rather unassuming beginning that has you on a farm looking for pumpkins. It of course isn’t totally weird but it’s an incredibly muted opening to a game without much story to begin with. Sure, the two kids get to visit all sorts of places but there isn’t hardly any story to it apart from maybe a reoccurring old man the kids seem to discriminate against due to his age. At least the kids themselves no longer look like freaky ventriloquist dummies. A map screen is introduced showing not just your trail but allowing you to replay certain stages which as I mention in a minute will become useful. The gameplay thankfully changes things up a bit, getting rid of the trick or treat system and replacing that with finding golden pumpkins and specific objects within each hidden object screen. In case you wonder what specific objects you need to collect include the left of the screen keeps a helpful silhouette of the item. The game here also penalises incorrect clicking. Should you collect everything required on each screen with no imprecise clicks you’ll get not just a nice score but some cash which when you have enough can be used to buy lots of tat in this game’s shop. If you fail the map screen will allow you to go back and do better but either way there’s a lot of stuff to unlock along with some achievements. A hint system is also available for use. The game itself is fairly relaxed in the puzzle department with a nice mix of various types which includes one of those evolution puzzles where the player has to put the evolution of humanity in the correct order. However there’s always that one annoying puzzle and this time around it’s the ice cream sundae jigsaw. Oh boy putting that thing together is by far the scariest thing in this game. In this third game for what it is it all seems to have come together quite nicely and that includes the cool music themes from previous games.
Halloween: Trick to Treat 2 features no real threat or story related incident. The game functions more like a children’s version of a pub crawl but that’s not such a bad thing. We get a diverse and colourful range of locations making this a pretty relaxed HOG considering the genre. Virtual Playground it seems have made the definitive game in the series. Fun for the entire family it might be but a lot of HOG fans will probably want something with a little more substance. Less excess and more meaningful content is always welcome.… Expand
