    Сюжет, даже сравнивая с играми 2000-2022 замечательный. Прекрасный стори-тейл тематики: научной фантастики и утопии, стилестически грамотно построенный рассказ не даст заскучать почти всем игрокам, которым нравятся такие тематики.

    Графика сравнивая с современными играми конечно не очень, хотя главный минус за маленькое доступное разрешение.

    Саундтрек очень бодренький и задаёт темп игре. Музыкальный бум в стиле научной фантастики приследует вас почти весь сюжет и как показуют другие обзоры: игрокам очень нравятся такие "дорожки".

    Геймплей, не считая замечательный и интересный сюжет, весьма прямолинеен: от точки А в точку Б, хотя и разбавлен музыкой и интереснымм стычками с мобами.

    Визуальное оформление воссоздано очень хорошо! Попадая в Black Mesa игрок сразу чувствуется антураж крутой секретной лаборатории: новые технологии, загадки в стенах базы и другие вещи, которые создают отличное ощущение, из-за чего ты ненароком начинаешь чувствовать себя частью команды Black Mesa.

    Мой комментарий: До того как я не прошёл игру Half-Life, мне казалось, что это творение не достойно звания лучшей игры до 2000 годов и подальших. Будучи типичним грофоманом, я не понимал сути таких сюжетных игр, ведь в них было невозможно играть. Но сейчас я поистине всем советую пройти эту игру. Она перезапускает ваш мозг, из-за чего ВЫ сможете полюбить другие стори-тейл игры. Не зря Half-Life называют легендарной игрой, ведь тайны таких проектов таятся в сюжетных мелочах и тайнах а не в гравике и геймплее.    … Expand

    Amazing game. The only thing I don't personally like is that you need to backtrack sometimes. It's a valid gameplay element, and sometimes I'm down for it, but when you're in such a linear environment in closed-off spaces, it makes me feel extra dumb. Which is not helped by the fact that I am dumb as is.

    REVIEW 1 of 3. Also, it is very difficult to give an evaluation of a game from almost 25 years ago, but I will try to review it as    THE FOUNDATION OF GAMES

    REVIEW 1 of 3.

    BEFORE WE BEGIN:
    I will preface this review by saying that it does not include the 3 dlc's of the game, since I wrote separate reviews for those (You can easily find them in the pages dedicated to the dlc's specifically). Also, it is very difficult to give an evaluation of a game from almost 25 years ago, but I will try to review it as objectively as possible, taking into account that it is one of the first FPS that included body physics in the video game scene.

    STARTING WORKING DAY:
    Half-Life begins by throwing the player directly into the game, no cutscenes. The first few minutes of the game are spent inside a train that takes the player to observe the internal structure of the game world, the Black Mesa Research facility. The player finds himself in the shoes of Gordon Freeman, a normal office worker who, on an ordinary workday, finds himself working for a new secret experiment that will change the fate of the world forever.

    DID YOU SEE THE MAN IN BLACK?:
    Graphically Half-Life was at the top of the FPS games of its generation, with clean graphics and fairly detailed models for its generation. Even played in 2022 it doesn't feel that heavy on the eye, and one also often finds oneself captivated by the imagination that 22 years ago the developers had in creating certain levels that are still stunning, and how with so little detail many of the game scenes look so captivating. I myself found myself in the Black Mesa desert level stunned at how, with graphics like that, the game still turned out stunning.

    I WILL SEE YOU UP AHEAD:
    The audio in Half-Life is nothing mind-boggling; it has catchy ost’s that perfectly match the gameplay, with the exception of the Valve ost, which is still used in the Valve’ games intro.

    EXPLORING THE FACILITY:
    The gameplay is the real reason why Half_Life and Valve itself have become famous; the level design is always impeccable and as the campaign continues it improves by leaps and bounds; levels, "puzzles" and design still brilliant by modern gaming standards. The level design is always varied and continues to flow as the story continues, giving continuous variety throughout the game. The difficulty of the game is balanced but sometimes frustrating if you happen upon some unfortunate circumstances. Finally, the highlight, which then led to the sequel's perfection, is the implementation of physics within a game, which unfortunately within the first one is not excellent but gives the foundation for one of the best games of all time.

    BUT WHY 9?

    PROS:
    The pros of this game are endless for the time and are pretty much what I have described in the lines above. I would add the repeatability over time, as the game is not at all tiring and in fact, provides insights for young developers, providing the foundation for modern video games, how can you not rate so highly a game that gave birth to most modern games. Moreover, Half.Life along with Quake are the first games that set the standard for fps controls used to this day, such as WASD or the XY in the mouse inputs.

    CONS:
    Cons are few and they are all given by the age of the title, such as the voice acting, some points related to physics, for example the fact that if you jump while running and then keep jumping, releasing WASD, the character keeps going; these are things that only the most attentive or other developers can notice, and it has to be said that probably those problems were created by Half-Life in the first place. Small flaw is perhaps the autosaves that are sometimes inconvenient, but they are fixed by the manual save option.

    For an fps back in 1998 this is really damn good, combat is solid and challenging. When going against human enemies with guns you cant just run straight in. The game holds up somewhat well, however can we please stop adding platforming to first person games, whoever though it was a good idea is a buffoon.

    After dodging the hype train for a long time, I thought it was finally time to try the original Half-Life in 2015. I was immediately hooked up and impressed how good the game was and, more importantly, how fantastic it held up today. This is one of the few games that kept me playing without ever boring me or forcing me through it, like some games. Every level was unique and featured a new mechanic of enemy.

    You play as Gordon Freeman, the silent protagonist that is late for work at his job in the Black Mesa Research Facility. As part of an experiment, you casually put some sort of unknown crystal in a device called the anti-mass spectrometer. This goes horribly wrong, and everything explodes and a portal to another dimension, called Xen, is opened. Immediately, Xen aliens are going through the portal and attack every living soul in sight. The US military is also alerted and sends a special force called HECU to cover everything up, including you and the personal of Black Mesa.

    Gordon learns of a way to close the portal and makes his way to the surface. He battles a giant tentacle monster, kills a lot more new alien species and tries to make his way to the other side of the facility. He gets captured by the HECU, is left for dead by the garbage compactor, escapes and makes his way to the Lambda Complex. He then learns that the portal is controlled by a mighty entity in the Xen world that keeps it open. He gets teleported with the aid of the scientists there to Xen and searches for the beast. He encounters the thing, called the Nihilanth, kills his ass and is then greeted by a slim, creepy figure of a man called G-Man. He is offered employment for G-Man and his buddies. If you refused, you get obliterated by a thousand soldiers. If you accept, you are put to sleep in wait of your next assignment.

    For the time, this was a huge and epic story that still holds up today. It combines everything that makes an FPS great; killing enemies, hunting a boss, being chased by enemies, collecting enough ammo etc. The best part is the huge world you play in, the unique “real time” story telling rather than cut scenes and the puzzle solving that the game features.

    The mechanics in Half-Life are unique. In the first place, it is your standard FPS, you collect different weapons, find ammo, kill enemies and move forward. But then you got the puzzle mechanics in which you need to stack boxes to reach a higher platform, navigating mazes, or figuring out what the best path will be to reach a certain area, without falling to your death. You also use the terrain a lot more than other games. When facing a strong enemy, you can use the environment for cover while fighting, something that is impossible in games like Doom and Duke Nukem.

    Lastly, you got a badass HEV suit that grants you more protection and offers a ton of neat tools like a build in flashlight, oxygen for swimming sections, a compass, and your HUD. The suit absorbs a lot of damage and runs on a energy meter. When the suit is depleted, functions like the flashlight do not work anymore. You can recharge your health and suit energy at special stations scattered throughout the game.

    The combat mechanics are fluent and feel very responsive and satisfying. It is fast paced, accurate and a ton of fun. You can use various weapons and choosing which weapon works best for each fight is a must. And of course, your most iconic weapon is your good old crowbar.

    The graphics are nice and solid in Half-Life. It is a little polygon like, and some enemies and characters have some square shapes edges, but it is smooth and the textures on them are fine. The weapon detail, bullet impact and explosions are great. The animations are a little stiff when looking at it today, but for the time, they were excellent.

    The sound is also excellent. Weapon fire sounds realistic, the fancy sounds your HEV suit makes are great and the voice acting is spot on.

    In terms of controls, the game plays fluently. Everything is responsive and feels natural. The only problem I encountered is the abrupt tilt in the screen when you expect to land on a platform, but you missed the jump by an inch.

    Overall, Half-Life lives up to its title of one of the best games ever made and, even today, it still holds up and is truly a masterpiece.

    Good shooter with pretty good sci-fi setting. Game aged well and despite it's release in 1998, game still playable and enjoyable.

    Sci-fi setting is not written flawlessly. Lore not flawless too.
    Gameplay sometime is being frustrating.

    I will defend valve on almost anything, as most of their works are just straight up masterpieces, classics, games that withstand the test of time, more gen z gamers need to play this game through, its amazing, the story is magnificent, the game pioneered single player shooters, not to mention the amazing enemy design

    Esta bueno el juego, hizo que los FPS dejen de ser como DOOM de no solamente matar monstruos o sino tambien que los NPC's te ayuden abrir puertas
    lo malo son sus bugs, el jefe final y su version de Steam tiene una baja calidad de la musica (la version fisico tienia en alta calidad) y el menu ahora se ve inferior
    En su version fisico te traia mods preinstalados llamados Team Fortress    Esta bueno el juego, hizo que los FPS dejen de ser como DOOM de no solamente matar monstruos o sino tambien que los NPC's te ayuden abrir puertas
    lo malo son sus bugs, el jefe final y su version de Steam tiene una baja calidad de la musica (la version fisico tienia en alta calidad) y el menu ahora se ve inferior

    I haven't finished Half-life 1. But the story has been spoiled to me, so I think I can give a review on it. I'm currently on Chapter 10 and I love this game. If you don't, then at least give the game a higher number than 0. Just make sure HD models are off. The HD models suck and take away the classic look. Luckily you can easily turn these off,.     Half-Life is a great game. It keeps you into the FPS mindset with lots of action and ties in realistic puzzles that keep you sharp and on your toes.
