Gathering Sky is an easy-to-play game both with and without a touchscreen device. Costing only a few quid on Steam, Android and iOS, this gameGathering Sky is an easy-to-play game both with and without a touchscreen device. Costing only a few quid on Steam, Android and iOS, this game is strangely addictive, despite having no objectives, no puzzles and no dialogue.

You control a flock of birds against a backdrop of beautifully painted scenery and emotional music which combine to tell a story all without a single word. You simply guide the bird through the scene, around a collection of obstacles and interactive objects. When you pass other birds, they join your flock.

Even the most casual gamer can get along with this one – its simplicity is what makes it so appealing. No undefeatable bosses. No unsolvable puzzles. No complicated controls. Just a flock of birds and a wide, open sky. The rules? There are none. It's up to you whether you find all the birds hiding in a level or not. It's up to you where you fly.

The story-telling element of this game is perhaps its greatest strength. Even without a narrative, you feel a desire to keep your flock safe, despite there being few dangers to their number. It speaks to the brilliance of the game's design and musical score. A brilliant game for anyone who wants to escape the stresses of everyday life for a few minutes, short enough to play in a single sitting but long enough to give you a break.
