A casual playthrough for each character should be around 9 - 12 hours with lots of extras to play with as well. So you'll get your money's worth out of this amazing action platformer. Expand

Predominately from the classic games. Specifically in terms of being a speed based 2D platformer with multiple playable characters, fantastic music, and elemental shields. However it also has a much more indepth storytelling, voice acting, combat, equipment system, and worldbuilding. Absolutely recommend playing the first one before this for story purposes. This series is on par if not better than an classic Sonic game you may have played. It's one of my favorite indie series and platormers in general. Expand

I gave it a perfect score because as a platformer and as a video game, it is literally perfect. The level design complements the sense of speed and it comes down to one core mechanic that game companies miss today:

    Pure fun.

    The Good

    Better Graphics (sorta)
    Better Music
    Better Voice Acting
    Better Writing (sorta)

    The Intentionally Bad

    Art style is less unique.
Gameplay is as derivative as New Super Mario Bros.
Merga is eh, Cory is a reskin of Carol, Askal is a plot device, and finally, but not bad enough, Aaa is intentionally annoying.

One of the best 2d platformers I’ve played in a while. I thought the first freedom planet was pretty good but this one is even better if you like classic sonic I would recommend this to you in a heartbeat. It seems the game has unfortunately flown under everyone’s radar though maybe it’ll get more recognition when the console ports release.

This game is the most perfect sequel in my opinion to any game. The first Freedom Planet was already a good game, it was one of my favorite games of all time. Now Freedom Planet 2? It just takes the cake. Honestly, it is one of the best games of 2022 and it's sad that it's hardly known.

This game is quite a hidden gem and has a fun blend of Sonic with the movement and level designs, and maybe Megaman with the boss battles. As someone who is not really a fan of either, I did not expect to enjoy this game as much as I have and happily bought a copy for my husband to enjoy as well. You do not need to play the first to understand this one, but it will help to understand some of the backstory and characters. Also, there seems to be no time limit. So if, like me, you're not a big fan of Sonic or rushing around in general you can take your time and hop around the stages all you like.

The game gives you four characters to choose from with different gameplay for each. The story is the same no matter who you chose, but you will get different cutscenes at times. Some story cutscenes even have parts others do not see, giving you a personalized story experience for each character. This was done smartly and in the correct way as you do not need to play the game four times if you do not want to or do not enjoy one or more characters gameplay. The main story will still be pretty much the same, you will just get some altered or extended cutscenes or even some brand new ones more related to the character.

The story itself is more complex than the first so it is understandable that some may not like that, and lots of backstory is locked behind "Time Capsules" that you must acquire and view. This also unlocks the hidden stage and true final boss. Personally I enjoy something more than a generic/simple backstory and this idea circulating around that retro/older styled games have to have a simple story to be good is ludicrous. The voice acting, dialogue and story, though a bit odd at times, is overall a big step up in quality and a major success for the game. I just wish there was more backstory/lore to the main antagonist and her wife which is why I rated a 9 instead of a 10. The main story itself is not hard to follow regardless and the complexity helps to show more sides to the main characters and even test some of their beliefs.

The gameplay is rather simple and most of the bosses can be rather easy. However that difficulty can easily change depending on your character as each plays differently. If you're playing the game for the first time I highly recommend you take the time to try the characters until you find one you like using. Personally that was Neera for me and Carol for my husband. Everyone plays differently. I find Neera easy and others find her very difficult. So it's not possible to really recommend someone. Try them out and find one you like, as the game does pick up in difficulty quite a bit the further you get. There are items you can buy and assist mode options to help as well.

Overall this is a huge step up from the first and my personal game of the year choice. Everything was improved from the original. The art/art design, gameplay, bosses, music, story, dialogue and voice acting... though some like music and story is up to personal taste obviously. This game is worth full price (25$). Personally would have paid more.

Freedom Planet 2 is a great fast-paced 2D platformer that improves in every aspect of its predecessor, Freedom Planet. This game never has a weak point. Level design throughout the game is fun and challenging. Boss fights are more fleshed out than the first game, providing a challenge for even more experienced players.
