    Unless you want to complete both endings and complete your collection of cogs, the game is a little on the short side. But with such a wonderfully presented story and artwork, there is no reason why you wouldn’t run through Freedom Fall again.

    Freedom Fall is an absolute joy to play. Gamer involving enough to get interested, though past time designed so that a gamer could turn to it for a bit of get away from the real world relief.

    Very pretty game, cel shading is superb, controls are tight if not really touchy on the deaths and an interesting premise in having to go downVery pretty game, cel shading is superb, controls are tight if not really touchy on the deaths and an interesting premise in having to go down for a platformer...but SHORT!!!! I'll take games like this over long games that don't play well or are buggy messes because they're so big developers had to spread themselves too thin to be able to focus on perfecting any single aspect of a game, any day of the week.… Full Review »

    I recently decided that I have played enough AAA games and it’s finally time to dive more into the indie scene,    Freedom Fall – Short Review

    I recently decided that I have played enough AAA games and it’s finally time to dive more into the indie scene, so I went onto IndieDB and instantly regretted it as I was playing 5 minuet unfinished games. Then I wandered over to Steams indie section and was a lot more satisfied with the choice of games, I guess as I was paying for these ones they would be a lot better quality. There are many indie games that a lot of people have played that I haven’t so I’ve picked out seven indie games that caught my interest, and I will review them once I’ve played through them all. Some are critically acclaimed and I simply missed the boat and some seem great but time will tell if they hold up to my first impressions. (To be honest I just go for whatever thumbnail looks the coolest).
    Anyway, let’s get on with my first review, the game that stood out the most to me.

    Freedom Fall grabbed me from the art style alone, it’s beautiful. It looks like a cross between a comic and a manga. The main character, whose name you later find out to be Marsh is wonderfully designed. I love everything about this characters design from the anime hair to the clothes looking like he’s from Skyward Sword and with a facial expression making him look like a force to be reckoned but cutest character you’ll see all year. Then the princess looking like a princess out of Rayman Legends gone bad. Oh and the princess is a douche, but we’ll get to that later. On to the gameplay.

    The gameplay is great; it’s a straight plat former, with very little combat, so most of your game will be running, jumping, and gliding thanks to gadgets you’re allowed to craft with the bolts you’ve been collecting. However the interesting thing this game does is have you falling down (hence the name) as opposed to the regular formula of platformers having you run sideways. However the gameplay also takes a page out of rage games like Super Meat Boy, having you die in one hit and restart at the nearest checkpoint. This can at times cause a lot of frustration, but for most of the game you’re going it find it relatively easy; and you won’t find much challenge with the boss battles either, with them being very easy to take down.

    The story is by far the most interesting point overall, although I loved the art style I wouldn’t have stayed playing it for as long as I did if it weren’t for the unique storytelling. The game has no dialogue or voice acting, the whole story is told via scribbles on the back wall. The one leaving these crude attempts at writing is the Princess (The douche I was talking about earlier). This sadistic brat is doing everything in her power to kill you. She starts off kind of mildly insane and then by the end goes all out crazy; she even starts using red chalk rather than pink, that’s when you know she’s pissed.

    I won’t spoil any of the plot as I think for a 1-2 hour game Freedom Fall has some of the best storytelling I’ve seen, I really didn’t think I’d get so invested in a story written entirely in chalk on a back wall but this surprisingly dark tale has enough twists and turns to keep anyone interested. There are four multiple endings as well, but they aren’t very different and don’t give you much insight into what happens next.

    Freedom Fall is a truly great indie game, perfect controls, amazing story, and a beautiful art style to feast on while you’re playing it; the only problem is, it being so short. I finished it in an hour and half and that’s with me being terrible and dying a lot. It doesn’t feel right paying £6 for it when I finished it so fast. It’s a lot more suited to be a mobile game, and that’s not something you’ll hear me say often (I hate mobile gaming) however with the lowered price a lot more fitting to the games length you’d be smarter to pick it up on your phone or tablet.
