Fire Tonight’s story of two lovers separated by a city going up in flames is charming enough while it lasts. Unfortunately, the attempt to reunite them isn’t nearly as exciting as it sounds, and the whole adventure is only marginally longer than the song on which it’s based.

This is a short and sweet romp through a surreal town on fire. It gives some interesting isometric mechanics that play well with its puzzles.

Fire Tonight is a superb expression of being young, being in love, and being confused. Maya and Devin are great characters that I would love to see return again in another capacity, but our time with them here is far too short. Hopefully, if given the chance, they'll come back and be treated with a bit more world-building puzzles. Either way, I'm sure the music will be killer.

When you get down to brass tacks, Fire Tonight won’t be blowing anyone’s doors off. I don’t think that was the goal, either. But just because it’s a compact experience doesn’t mean that it’s an unpleasant one. The entire package is a brisk, cute, and enjoyable time. The solid presentation, the simple but decent gameplay, and the personality throughout help soften the blow of the overall length. There are worse ways to spend an hour, and helping a couple reunite for safety’s sake isn’t a bad way to kill some time at home or on the go.
