    While this game feels really dated it's still a sweet memory that reminds us of our childhood, all the fun and jump scares. I've spent a lot of time preparing myself to play this game when I was a kid as I was scared of those jumping monsters.

    1200. 10/10 Back in 2004, it was one of the most beautiful games on the market (besides Half Life 2). Gunplay is OK, as well as the story, but remember, it's a game from 2004, so at the time it was insane!!!

    Отличная игра для своего времени. Физика, звук, элементы стелса, стрельба. Не смотря на возраст, игра даже на среднем уровне вызывала трепет, потные ладони и регулярные смерти.

    Decidi começar nessa franquia e nada melhor do que iniciar pelo primeiro. Fui sem muita expectativa por ser um jogo mais antigo, e ainda bem que fui assim rsrs. Pode ter sido revolucionário na época, mas hoje (2023) é sofrido jogar.

    Os cenários são muito caprichados, muito amplos e é possível se perder na mata facilmente se não prestar atenção na direção certo.
    De longe até que não são tão ruins os modelos de inimigo, mas de perto os detalhes ficam aparentes e não são bons. Existe pouca variação de inimigos e eles possuem o mesmo rosto.

    Simples e funcional. Não da pra criar nenhum tipo de conexão com o personagem mas serve bem de pano de fundo pra você passar pelas fases.
    As cinemáticas são feias demais...
    Plot Twist no fim foi mais telegrafado que passe de criança de 3 anos rsrs.

    Pra um jogo mais limitado me surpreendeu a física do jogo, é bem ok e da pra jogar tranquilo.
    A parte do Stealth me incomodou bastante, primeiro que só achei uma arma silenciada o jogo todo, e os inimigos te identificam de muito longe (claro que o protagonista utilizando uma camisa vermelha não ajuda no processo), mas a temática do jogo é perfeita pra stealth e não é isso que acontece na pratica.
    Existe uma variação ok de armas, mas as armas explosivas são ruins demais.

    Não achei que valeu a pena os R$8,99 que paguei, muito menos os R$29,99 que é cobrado hoje sem promoção. Caso queira conhecer a franquia assim como eu talvez valha, mas esperar um jogo muito legal é demais hoje em dia.    … Expand

    the gameplay just is very satisfying, graphics stil hold up well, sound is amazing, almost all of the levels are veery fun and rewarrding to complete and its veery unique game. A classic!!!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got a new cheapo laptop so I'm not trying to play brand new single player FPS, but I am going back and playing things like the new Wolfensteins, F.E.A.R., etc which play fine thanks to the insane tech advances that happen in computing.

    So, 2004 Far Cry on PC. This was really a great demo for the CryEngine, enabling some nice open world game play. For an engine basically 20 years old, for the most part it holds up as far as in world materials. There's nice details like changing times of day and environmental birds, nice skyboxes, etc. The water system is pretty basic and I don't think there's any fishies in this outing.

    The story itself is sort of a flip, don't think too much about it pulpy tale of a mad scientist modify things into manimals that can hold guns and rocket launchers. The scientists and original guards of the labs fight the manimals, and both parties fight you.

    And who are you? Just a dude in a tropical shirt whose boat got blown up. Luckily you and your girl survive and talk to a spy or somebody like that who gives you missions. You have a health and shield system and a night vision battery that wears down but will recharge itself once you find a quiet corner to hide in.

    Gameplay mostly lends itself to stealth or bum-rushing a new room with your favorite gun fully loaded, then retreating backwards to a safe hallway to reload and get reading to go in again for cleanup.

    In terms of your arsenal, you get small machine guns, pistols, machetes, rocket launchers, a machine gun with a grenade launcher, plus 3 types of standalone grenades (shock, smoke, and frag, plus you can throw a rock to try and distract enemies).

    You search through labs, enabling various controls and clearing them of enemies to complete mostly fetch-quest stuff. You also traverse outside environments in a relatively non-linear way (considering the time this was made), moving through enemy camps, collecting ammo, med kits, and shields.

    In terms of difficulty, the interior maps feel quite a bit more fair as they're relatively linear and there's very little trigger-maps releasing enemies behind you after you've passed their hidden location (looking at you, ID software circa 2004).

    More difficult / "problematic" are the more open world outside areas that consist of roads or paths mostly surrounded by "thick" jungle/forest greenery and dropped in rock formations.

    I chose medium difficulty, and even in this mode, the enemies are a bit ridiculously eagle-eyed to sense you and head your way. Often they're moving in the brush towards you and will suddenly pop out of the greenery to throw and insult and some bullets your way.

    Mostly, NPC behavior gives you a lesson in stealth and how to engage sub-groups of enemies, but every so often, the enemies feel both over-numbered and over-powered, with their aim being spot seemingly 100% of the time. As the game progresses, this starts to feel extremely unfair.

    I finally hit a level where an enemy in a far tower armed with a rocket launcher was able to land every rocket in my kill zone. (p.s. every enemy who has a rocket launcher is this insanely skilled with it.)

    If I had been purposely provided a sniper gun before heading into this area of play, I might have not felt so hurt and cheated; but I was not.

    This was in the middle of trying to suss out a cadre of enemy soliders hiding in the bush and constantly flanking or surrounding me. The fun stopped and the frustration started, so much so that I had to finally turn on God mode. My personal opinion, medium mode should still have a relatively linear path to completion. I was "killed" 20+ times in God mode clearing this area, then was given a boss battle where I was killed about 50 times trying to hit a constantly moving copter with the rocket louncher. Just not a fan of boss fights.

    All in all, this has aged pretty well except the difficulty curve and dumb boss fights.    … Expand

    Stunning sound design, bad game desing. Magnificent visuals, but fifty-fifty missions. Clean PC controls, but lots of lame scripts. Very good AI, but it cheats.

    hard f$&$king game It reminds a lot of CRYSIS 1, and it's also crazy. This far cry is very strange, sometimes you face monsters that are difficult to kill and the game itself is difficult, that's why I give it a grade 8 difficult but beautiful and fun In 2004 you knew your computer was good when it ran this game well! ^⁠_⁠^

Unfortunately, some of the mutant monsters you had to fight were irritating, especially the big brutes with rockets. As for the story and dialogue, it was simply bad, but in a charming B-movie way.     In my humble opinion — this is the best Far Cry title. Far Cry 1 has it specific ambience and atmosphere that has been lost in future games of the series. Still to this day that game can empress with it's graphich aspects. By the way, this is probably also the most hardest Far Cry title. You'll need to get some skills if you want to pass it. After all — it's another good nostalgic &In my humble opinion — this is the best Far Cry title. Far Cry 1 has it specific ambience and atmosphere that has been lost in future games of the series.     For 2004, I'm sure it was an over the top game, great locations, beautiful graphics, moderately interesting plot. The game is really hardcore even on the lowest difficulty level.     Since I finished the game, it still makes you feel playing kind of a newer game style. Never getting old in my opinion. On some parts of it just a little bit exaggerated about harder difficulty. AI is a totally masterpiece for an 2004 game. Other than those, even at these times you can still enjoy.

    Поиграл минут 20. Нельзя поставить 16:9, хотя в кс 1.6 можно было. ИИ тупой. На минимальном уровне сложности враги неубиваемые. Урон от них невыносимый. В наше время эта игра полное дерьмо.

    Es simplemente una demo técnica disfrazada de videojuego, que lo único innovador que hace es "verse bonita". Cuenta con detalles bastante sorprendentes e interesantes, pero hasta ahí se queda todo, es un juego    Este juego es uno de los peores Videojuegos de 2004. La gente que lo defiende y lo marcan como uno de los mejores, o no lo jugaron actualmente o no jugaron mas juegos de 2004.

    Es simplemente una demo técnica disfrazada de videojuego, que lo único innovador que hace es "verse bonita". Cuenta con detalles bastante sorprendentes e interesantes, pero hasta ahí se queda todo, es un juego donde cada mecánicas se pisan entre ellas y te dan una experiencia pésima, se nota que no había un rumbo claro y que solo se buscaba mostrar lo que Cry Engine podía hacer.
    Todo es completamente olvidable, gameplay, personajes, historia, todo....
    La historia es genérica y sin alma, los personajes son los estereotipos mas genéricos del mercado y el voice acting no acompaña, de las peores actuaciones hechas en un videojuego, incluso para la época.
    En lo técnico tampoco se salva, a pesar de que resalta por muchas cosas, hay otras que literalmente parecen de un videojuego incluso mas viejo y que juegos como Half-Life 2, Halo 2 o Doom 3 lo superan por mucho.
    Las animaciones y cinemáticas son lo peor en el apartado técnico, junto a que por la parte final es casi imposible jugarlo porque si quieres cargar partida el juego Crashea.....
    El Gun Play y la IA también es desastroso, las armas son demasiado inconsistentes, muchas son completamente inútiles, los lanza misiles no hacen casi daño incluso explotando en los pies del enemigo.
    Los enemigos o son puro aimbot que te apuntan a kilómetros de distancia sin que seas capas de verlos, o son los seres mas estúpidos que no se dan cuenta ni de que explotaste a su compañero que esta a su lado, no hay punto medio.
    El movimiento es muy impreciso, muchas veces hasta para terminar de subir escaleras tienes que saltar porque el personaje se queda trabado, la stamina esta muy desbalanceada, se gasta excesivamente rápido y tarda DEMASIADO en recargar, mas si tienes que moverte, el sistema de peso en las armas que limita todavía mas el movimiento no tiene lógica para el tipo de juego que es y la disposición de los suministros no esta bien realizada.
    Sumado a que el daño que recibes de los enemigos es ridículamente alto incluso jugando en normal y el sistema de auto guardado es inútil.

    En conclusión, este juego es verdaderamente mediocre tirando a malo, lo único que lo salvo fue que crytek supo disfrazar su mediocridad con gráficos bonitos. Tristemente esta saga empieza recién en el 3 de la mano de Ubisoft y con un futuro bastante amargo por la misma razón.
    Crytek es una desarrolladora que simplemente no sabe hacer videojuegos y se nota en sus otros títulos.
    Mi nota hubiera llegado al 5 porque el apartado técnico es lo único que lo "salva" pero como no puedo ni terminarlo de jugar porque Crashea, pues bueno es la única nota que se le puede dar...    … Expand

    The game redefines its graphics with the same blowing stuff-up storyline. This time they have added a wingsuit which makes travelling around the massive open world so much easier and just when you thought what more can you destroy that was not in the previous games, well now you can destroy bridges as well and the destruction looks so amazing.     Still amazing graphics for a 2004 game. Was quite graphics demanding for its time. Before Crysis it was...but can it run Far Cry?? The most difficult Far Cry game by a good margin. Revolutionary in many ways.

    I have decided not to recommend this game as on modern computers the game jerks and is not playable.
    even if you put some pieces, by lowering some options, playing with them you will always have annoying microlags.

    Да зачем я вообще это говорю , все и так знают Far Cry 3 , как по мне Ваас - самый харизматичный из всех антогонистов серии.

Сюжет - ну он есть, необычно местоами, не более. ГГ - харизматичный чувак, который при этом не надоедает со своими разговорами. Псевдо открытый мир, по сути просто большие, нет, огроооомные уровни, которые можноПрекрасная, замечательная просто игра, одна из тех игр в которую должен сыграть каждый, т которую можно перепроходить много-много раз, каждый раз открывая какие то мелочи новые. Сюжет - ну он есть, необычно местоами, не более. ГГ - харизматичный чувак, который при этом не надоедает со своими разговорами. Псевдо открытый мир, по сути просто большие, нет, огроооомные уровни, которые можно проходить различными способами. Nevertheless, Crytek's debut game helped establish the fledgling studio back in 2004, making valuable contributions to the FPS genre alongside other FPS greats like Half-Life 2 and Halo 2, and setting up the formula for Crytek'sLooking back, it's hard to believe that this 17 year old game is primarily responsible for being the inception point of Ubisoft's biggest open world FPS franchise. Nevertheless, Crytek's debut game helped establish the fledgling studio back in 2004, making valuable contributions to the FPS genre alongside other FPS greats like Half-Life 2 and Halo 2, and setting up the formula for Crytek's follow-up spiritual successor, Crysis.

    What made Far Cry stand out 'back-in-the-day' was it's non-linear missions and hybrid gameplay of stealth and action. While it could be frustrating to play because you didn't know exactly where you were getting shot at from in the jungle, Far Cry's maps were fun to explore. On the flipside, Far Cry could be very boring and frustrating to play at times because of how imperfect or imbalanced it was - a trait which Crytek's next game, Crysis, shared. But on the whole, Far Cry is a great 'Golden Era' FPS game that is frequently overlooked and often underappreciated.

    So now every time you play a modern Far Cry game, just remember to remind yourself that Ubisoft has A LOT to thank Crytek for.    … Expand

    From a catholic view it's a disgrace to play a game where you have to kill hundreds of _people_ and I did it, years ago. The graphics and controls were great and I bought Far Cry 1 & 2, but not the 3rd and won't play with these anymore I guess. The story is also ?alright?.
    The gameplay is very diverse though (like crafting, using skill points,    It's difficult to make a review here.

The first installment of the legendary Far Cry series takes us to a very similar place to Crysis, and that is an island. Sunshine, sandy beaches, beautiful palm trees and beautiful sea. Yeah. That's what Far Cry is, or at least the first one. The story begins, as perhaps every saga does nowadays, with a good old-fashioned escape. First and foremost, you'll probably be enchanted by the breathtaking visuals for the time, which few adepts at the time could boast. For 2004, it was simply over the top. The gameplay was... What was? Actually, it's still fun. I mean, it's a first-person shooter. Just throw a gun in my hand and let me go wild! This is just action with a capital A. In Far Cry 1, you're going to have a blast in the shootouts, which are great, but unfortunately, this all has one minor downside, and that's that you don't have the freedom that you do in more recent installments. The first one is quite straightforward. The map we're used to isn't quite there. There is no radar to show you where to go. Unfortunately, you don't even have the delicious choice to choose whether to drive that part silently or in action. So if you're a fan of more of a silent sneak, this action-packed game is not for you. You don't choose your weapons here and only take them from your dead enemies. Although there is a silenced MP5 for example, the enemies will still notice you sooner or later and so even if you do try for some silent progression, it's definitely not something the game is counting on or even the style you should play the game. So, in conclusion, what is Far Cry 1 and who is it for? If you love action as much as I do and you're not exactly a fan of stealth, again like me, I wouldn't hesitate too much to pick up the game. If you're not a master of English, you'll be pleased to know that there is a Czech dub! It's an old classic that can be played on any PC nowadays, so almost anyone can play it. On Steam, it costs only 10 ecus, which is a couple of hundred, and with such a discount, this game will literally cost you a few crowns. It might not suit you, as it's quite a bit different compared to newer FC games, but you might also love it.… Expand

    Игра с очень красивой графикой для 2004 года. Есть автосохранения но нет обычных и это очень не удобно, геймплей нормальный на уровнях всегда мало аптечек и брони! И на некоторые виды оружия очень мало патронов.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the weakest far cry. Story, characters and presentation is not good. Jack Carver and main villain is generic and unmemorable.

    Gameplay is unnecessarily hard, even on easy. Stealth sometimes works, sometimes doesn't(similar to fc2)enemies are aimbots and deplete your health quickly.

    When trigens appear it become more tedious and unbearable. They are bullet sponges and just annoying. They are not interesting or fun to fight.

    You can only carry four weapons and machete holds one of the weapon slots. And since you can't afford to lose machete(it is your last resort after all)this means you can only three weapons.

    Checkpoints are very far away from each other.

    Graphics hold up surprisingly well. There are some nice locations to look at. Some nice lighting and physics.

    Now that we've dispensed with the need to evaluate my fragile mental state, it's time to look over a game that probably caused half those neuroses. Far Cry is a stealth, FPS mix. I didn't play it when it came out and I never hear anybody talk about this first entry in the franchise, so any witty or knowledgeable statement about its release or culture would be a Far Cry from the truth. And yes, that pun will show up frequently during this review. But despite the praising reviews of this game, it doesn't ever come up in conversation. Especially when compared to its successors. Far Cry 2 is the cult classic, 3 is the one that put the series into the mainstream, and 4 onwards just keep selling based on the success of 3. There's also Primal, but I think to this day that everyone still thinks that one was just an April Fools joke that hasn't been taken off of stores yet. Really letting that one linger, eh Ubisoft?
    I f$*king love the environments in this game!
    I've said it before and I'll say it again; open spaces with oversaturated colours and some real ambience are Gucci on crack. These tropical islands are my dream home. I could even put up with the rampaging monkey demons for a piece of real estate in Far Cry. And this extends into the actual foundations of the gameplay too.
    One of the major selling points of this game is its open, linear design. You traverse individual levels completing objectives from point A - B in a normal linear fashion, however any of the outdoors levels are wildly expansive. You can travel to islands with nothing on them, or follow beaches round to flank enemy camps, or just piss off and swim with some tropical fish. Evil scientists and rampaging monkey demons will probably just fix themselves anyway. That's probably just the way with scientists obsessed with chest day, and bloody bonobos. They have a complicated relationship. But weaving together beautiful world design and liberty in gameplay in this way is just a 1000 yeses in my book. And I wrote a book that simply said yes 1001 times. Best seller too!
    I also love the action set pieces in this game. A fight on a sinking boat, hang gliding over enemy camps, the world's worst turret section, and more can turn a generic shooter into an exciting, interactive action film. Other shooters need to learn this. Gameplay is vital, but context can make that gameplay feel way more investing and fun.
    It is with great sorrow, however, that I must now state that this is where the pros of this game end. Ain't got much of a narrative. It's only orders from other characters followed by a snarky remark by your character. An action movie through and through. Although that was hard to tell since there are no subtitles option in this game, and voices are part of the sound effects volume slider. It's bad enough that the guns are realistically loud so the slider needs to be turned way down to avoid giving yourself instant tinnitus-flavoured ramen. But the voices are already quiet at the top of the slider. Your companions prefer to vaguely and sexily whisper commands in your ear rather than just tell you what's going on. I'm into it, but I'm also very confused. I'm also confused about they just said as well...
    In an attempt to be make their stealth FPS a little more realistic they kinda f&%ked it up, and also forgot to put fun in the game. Yes, it is genuinely interesting that enemies have realistic vision and can spot you sneaking up on them in their peripheral unlike other stealth games. Unfortunately, after that point the game just breaks. Get spotted and all enemies on the map will be alerted. And they have aim tracking too so there's not much use in trying to hide again because I witnessed these people actually f&@king watching me through mountains. Yet a small bush will often confuse and scare a mercenary practically standing on top of you. At least this mercenary army isn't ableist. They take anyone with 20-20 vision, the completely blind AND the omniscient. So proud of these boys trying to murder me right now.
    Gunplay feels pretty bad too. To increase difficulty, they go with the tried and complete horsesh*t method of just bringing in new enemies that are increasingly health spongy. The last few levels also have a reliance on rocket launcher spamming. Yay, I hate both those methods. Those methods really date this game, huh. Remember when games thought rocket spam was legit? Gunplay just feels wrong too. Yes, it's tactical that your accuracy goes up as you crouch and prone. But damn is it no fun in the sections where you do have to keep moving and Jack seems to be holding his gun f&!king sideways! This area is where the game needs the most improvement.
    So besides enemies shooting me from beyond the max render distance, the game was on its way to greatness.
    I actually went Far without Crying out a pun.

    Classic shooter with amazing graphics for 2004. It was the fundament for another great Crytec game Crysis and I cannot stress it enough - it was a game changer at the time.

    This game is able to provide you lots of fun with an interesting & deep story, saturated gameplay, a bit fearful encounters. There are lots of options how to achieve a target, locations & targets vary rather often, in that cause you will never feel boring from this game.

Graphics and sound are phenomenal, gameplay is wonderful and the ragdoll physics still rules. The story is a bit stereotypical, but who cares if everything else is brilliant. The wonderful start of a cool andFar Cry was a blast upon its release in 2004. The then unknown german video game studio Crytek presented one of the best FPS in years.     An incredible action-adventure. This game plays a lot like levels in a puzzle game. You must figure out where the enemies are, kill them, and move on. On your first playthrough, you will be intimidated by the first few missions due to it's open style of gameplay, but you will quickly get the hang of it.     I've been playing Far Cry since they were released. I can say that the first version from the point of view of fun, was the best in the whole series! My first hours of play were unforgettable. The game mechanics, the style of play and the excitement that the game brought, was wonderful!

While we had games like Half-Life 2 and World of WarCraft which were released the same year and which definitely became classic which aged much better and can be revisited today and still be fun doesn’t necessarily mean that all the other games released in the same period should be considered an utter trash. Half-Life 2 was just too good. 10 out of 10. Game of the year. While Far Cry 1 was just a good game which definitely was much better than people tend to make it to be nowadays. Of course revisited now the game doesn’t shine in almost every aspect for an average consumer but when I played this game about a decade ago I was literally blown away by the game. The graphics were insane, the guns felt real, the missions were truly challenging. I didn’t care much about the story back then but when the big monster-mutants appeared in the game I certainly was intrigued and wanted to find out what is going on.
    Far Cry 1 is far away from a perfect game…by today’s measures. I can only judge by the feelings I had when I played it then and I have nothing but warm memories about that times so for me to rate the game with anything less than 7/10 would be atrocious.    … Expand

Great strory, even it is shallow and mainly, it has EPIC mutants motherfukas, which want to jump on you from every corner. It is hell of a ride. Better than call of duty, yet looks realistic. Graphics are amazing on that time! Realistic models.

    YOU PROBABLY DIDN'T KNOW. It was so realistic, that i think in germany it was... They had to reduce violence, because even adults were shocked. Play Far Cry demo!

    I am absolutely hardcore fan of this game!!! I finished it over 100 times, heck maybe 200 times on realistic only one time :D as one level was crazy!

    Story: you take role of hardcore soldier, marooned on a island, after being contacted by undercover CIA agent, where mad scientist - Kruger makes biological experiements on animals and people to create super soldiers! It is crazy hell of ride, whole game. And it is tactical and difficult!

    Original levels, EPICness on scale out of proportions. It is like living movie. Also it has insane depth on 3d glasses. And i think this game would absolutely ROCK on VR. I can't think of better game for VR, except F.E.A.R!

    일단 몰입감과 게임성 하나는 정말 수작인 듯 싶습니다. 하지만 동일 장르에 바이오쇼크의 깊이와 철학 그리고 연출에 비해서는 아쉽지만, 열대와 템플 등 적절한 배경과 적절한 스토리 그리고 여러 무기와 장비들이 화려하진 않지만 FPS의 근-본같은 느낌이네요.

    Far Cry is an agonizingly difficult game where 2 shots could kill you and enemies could spot you from miles away. If you are a modern age gamer, do NOT buy it. The 89 rating from critics is irrelevant now because the gameplay mechanics is old by now. You cant do stealth either.

    It is true. I don't have satisfaction, when i played. I dissapointed. Me unpleasantly play, when me killing anybody enemy, when i ever and ever dead on middle difficulties, when bullets enemies give me so many damage. And why so few medicine and armor? WHY my bullets flying in side, but not in my aim. So big spread, so. ENEMIES. Why they random detect me, i try passed level is steals, but, - "I think i something saw there...", - and begin shooting. Nice. Although sometimes steals working. SOMETIMES.
    Okey, what are you say about story? Story is **** but if gameplay was is good, i don't said that it is bad. Since gameplay is bad, for this reason and story show itself not good light. Throw one more rock in reputation game.
    That's all. I said everything that want said.
    I don't passed this game, because i sincerely couldn't that. Kinda, i passed more half game(i played with girl, which searching our hero). I don't recommended play in this game at +2020. In world have a lot of beautiful games, which you can playing. With interest story and gameplay.
    P.S. And don't need consider me casual **** boy, i passed Doom(2016) on hard difficulties, I got satisfaction from game and love there dead and searching path for wining. I love hard, but don't love foolish hard.

    A Classic! I have completed it multiple times. It takes a little to get into the storyline, but once you are off to the jungle you cant stop playing.

Yes, I didn’t give it a low rating, because there were interesting moments and the general story and game-play were pleasant until a certain moment ... but then the author's brain was blown away and the whole monster's appearance killed the interest that went down the drain.     I'm forced to type 75 letters to this review when I'd just need 1 word: MASTERPIECE.

    Everything is fantastic! Graphics, sounds, atmosphere, enemies, vehicles, mechanincs, weapons, bynoculars, story, strategy. It's lot challenging, so you have to use your brain besides your shooting skills. Unfortunately it's a bit hard to run it with nVidia on Windows 7 onwards since you better    I'm forced to type 75 letters to this review when I'd just need 1 word: MASTERPIECE.

    Everything is fantastic!
    Graphics, sounds, atmosphere, enemies, vehicles, mechanincs, weapons, bynoculars, story, strategy.
    It's lot challenging, so you have to use your brain besides your shooting skills.

    Wonderful. All Time Game. Colorful graphics for 2004. The gameplay is not bad. The plot is quite controversial. Few weapons. The game is pretty hardcore. Enemies are not stupid, but rather smart guys. The levels are beautiful and memorable. The Cry Engine is a great engine, but demanding for 2004. The game gets me 8/10

    Story: the story is LAUGHABLY bad , feels like a bad spy movie from the 80s ( and i actually loved it ) the bad guys are clearly bad , the hero reluctant , the woman sexy and "bad ass" at least she would be if he Ai when she follows you was better, And of course the guy behind the computer telling you where to go. its no wonder there was a movie made of this game , and even less of a wonder that the movie is even worst . that being said its awful story is occasionally funny and can be mostly ignored.

    World building: i think this games world is actually not bad despite its story , levels are designed really well, locations are beautiful. little touches like the mercs having nudie mags in their quarters. witch is a small detail that makes them feel like real people even if they are still just nameless henchmen. also there is alot of hang gliders so do they do sight seeing in their down time ?. there is enough enemy variety to show that the people do have different jobs even if they will all shoot at you.
    world building: 6.5/10

    Graphics: the graphics are a little dated but not so dated that it makes you want to play the game. this is due to cryteks skill as graphical designers even if their later game (crysis) has aged better. like i said locations are beautiful. guns look modern and on the back drop of a tropical island makes it feel a little sci fi , the game has a decent visual style even if it isnt super fitting to the setting.

    game play: the guns in this game feel great and are fun to use , the ragdoll physics have great player input to them and that makes the combat feel more satisfying. The driving also had some pretty good physics to it witch surprised me for a game that was released in 2004 . my gripes with the game are that it has a huge difficulty spike about half way through , when the targens show up ( these creatures that are basically mutants) the basic ones that run at you arnt a problem usually because they go down easy and usually have a lot of time to shoot them, and the ones that jump around might be a little hard to see some times but are no harder than the mercs . the worst ones are the invisible ones witch you need the heat seeking goggles for and the big bullet sponges with automatic rocket launchers witch arnt to hard if they come at you one at a time but there is multiple parts where you have to fight multiple and that is hair pullingly frustrating and those parts stealth is not an option. stealth is also pretty redundant through out the whole game even with the f cam mod.
    I luckily had quick saves because of the aforementioned F cam mod and i really dont think i could have beat the game with out it . i played the game on normal difficulty and i like to think im pretty decent at shooters and i still found that hard i cant imagine what its like on harder difficulty's. That being said i had fun i liked the challenge i wanted to Finnish this game

    Sound design: music was really good BUT it was back wards The menu music was the best and combat tracks sounded forgettable if they just switched the 2 it would have been fine. voice acting was laughably bad at worst and at best awkward , or at worst awkward and at best laughably bad depending on the scale . and the laughably bad voice acting lends it self well to the laughably bad story so it works to some degree. The sound effects of the guns and explosions and basically all the game play sounds them self are really well done, guns are punchy and that's what you want.

    теперь в 2019 году я не знаю почему какое то чувство появилось ностальгии и решил глянуть на первую часть. из воспоминании осталось лишь скелет в первом уровне и монстры которые прыгают и ласт лвл его конструкция. я как не казуальный геймер выбрал сложность сложную выше нормы и погнал в путешествие. в начале все было нормально потом потихоньку жопа начинала подгорать. игра дико багованная, чуваки стреляют в тебя когда ты их даже не видишь и физический нормально не можешь увидеть потому что графика нормально не прорисовывает. чуваки стреляют в тебя когда ты стоишь в палатках или когда они стоят в палатках для них вообще не существует такой вещи как палатка они видят через неё. если запустить игру не в английском языке все бинды клавиш слетают и вообще не можешь ходить. сейвы делаются автоматический а в ручную нельзя и приходится заново заново играть проходить огромные промежутки до чекпоинтов а это пиздец. кат-сцены супер кринжовые, играешь не в какой то мрачный шутан а блять в кинокомедию. вождение машин катеров и лайнеров сделано супер уебищно что пиздец. игра не сбалансирована и сломана. но я всё таки её прошел. я бы наверное еще чего нибудь настрочил бы или вспомнил бы еще что-то он из-за склероза я всё позабыл.    … Expand

    So many memories with this game. Played it back in 2006, replayed it in 2018 and still had a good time. I've heard the patched and steam version has a bug with enemies shooting through walls. Well, I'm happy to own a real copy of the game (blast from the past, you know a game in a box, not digital crap) and didn't have this kind of bug. What can I say about Far Cry?     I remember this game blew my mind when I young. One of my fondest memories was when I first experienced Far Cry on a PC gamer demo disk and borrowed it from my mate straight after. Give it a try if you want to see where Far Cry began.

    Farcry 1 is better than most other shooters in terms of story mode, it offers some characters you can actually care about and a pretty interesting events to unfold.
    But the problem is with its technical qualities, the game mechanics are clunky and the animation feels outdated for a 2004 game.
    The game offers a very nice mysterious island to explore with its gore and violent enemies, the    Farcry 1 is better than most other shooters in terms of story mode, it offers some characters you can actually care about and a pretty interesting events to unfold.
    But the problem is with its technical qualities, the game mechanics are clunky and the animation feels outdated for a 2004 game.
    The game offers a very nice mysterious island to explore with its gore and violent enemies, the A.I is pretty good.
    Its my favorite Far Cry game and after the 3rd one i gave up on this franchise.

    On se rend compte assez vite de sérieux problèmes affectant le gameplay comme les ennemis justement ! une résistance aux balles hors du commun, une précision de tir qui défie l'entendement et une capacité à vous repérer à 2 km mettent sérieusement à mal l'expérience et toute tentative d'infiltration. Vous, le "héros" par contre, vous êtes raide après 2 ou 3 bastos dans le buffet. De surcroît les médikits sont rares et les points de sauvegarde (oui vous avez bien lu, des points de sauvegarde sur une exclu PC à l'origine !) apparaissent tous les 36 du mois.

    Dans ces conditions, même au niveau facile on en prend plein la gueule. Décidément, Farcry est une farce, ni plus ni moins. Un point pour la VF sympathique, un autre point pour la musique assez réussie. C'est pas tout ça mais ma poubelle a faim, je lui donne vite à manger. J'ai pas de temps à perdre avec un FPS de merde.    … Expand

    playing this in 2016 after finishing fc2, fc3 and fc4, i can say that this game was nicely upgraded over the years. still i found this game way better than fc2 which is probably worst in series. fc2 was boring, boring, boring and boring to hell. fc3 was boring boring, and finally fc4 was just boring. whoewer , fc1 1.4 patch on hardest level is providing really solid challenge withplaying this in 2016 after finishing fc2, fc3 and fc4, i can say that this game was nicely upgraded over the years. still i found this game way better than fc2 which is probably worst in series. fc2 was boring, boring, boring and boring to hell. fc3 was boring boring, and finally fc4 was just boring. whoewer , fc1 1.4 patch on hardest level is providing really solid challenge with amazingly hard AI who can easily shot you through tents, covers and walls in general, but there are some parts where enemies are acting pretty normal tho, especially in closed areas. stealth element is completely useless as crouch/prone is made way too slow so basicly it takes ages to get to the checkpoint. story is in general terrible, animations are terrible, voice acting is terrible and ingame sound is terrible. i didnt try the game on easiy mode but the island is basicly useless to explore as enemies are waiting in numbers every few steps armored with machinegunes on the boats, snipers, rocket launcher equipped guys with unlimited ammo and so. so we can say game is quiet liner as there are no side quest or any secrets on the island. every weapon is unlocked after first few tasks so there's nothing to be explored further. no weapon upgrades, nothing. whoever, game itself is fun, shooting is simple, fluid, smooth and challenging. there are way way better old fps games who can provide much fair AI, better story, better graphich and more things to explore than this one. overall, this one is not su terrible shooter in general for 2004, but quality is far far away from games liike doom, fear older cod's and moh.… Expand

    When I got to the Trigens I was so scared that fell off the chair!
    And always when they jumped on me, I had hair on end!

    This is a milestone of the first person shooter genre. One of the many great improvements is the big location that leads you to many ways to come to your goal. The other milestone is the engine: even today this game looks great, obviously the engine is written perfectly. In addition dont forget the great art design to use that engine.

    I like the idea with the little minimap for one reason: it makes the game like a hunt to kill the enemies. Unfortunately the AI is most of the time stupid, so the whole game is very easy. But sometimes the AI is good and coordinate to hunts you, especially in the open fields.

    What is bad? The campaign could be a bit shorter. The dialogs and story could be a bit more realistic to immerse better. The range of view of the enemies is too short sometime. Crowe in the helicopter as one of the bosses is very annoying und unrealistic.    … Expand

    I was amazed after I saw those graphics - Far Cry looks just great. Took me long to finish it on some medium-ish difficulty, but I did, and was really happy about it. Can't say that about FC2.

    In order to play the game without the AI super soldiers, you need the unofficial patchs or somehow downgrade to patch 1.3

    Now, I remember playing this back in 2004 and thought it was originally a good game, because back then- Far Cry WAS a good game, but the standards have risen considerably over the years and this game shows cleary how low gamers standards was back then.

    Far Cry suffers from a huge amount of general issues which makes the game generally much harder than it really needs to be, such as troop placement being so specific to catch the player out, each mission as such is more about remembering where enemy mercs are; rather than planning a strategic attack- think of MOH; Sniper Alley style gameplay here, its frustrating and needless.

    Then to add further insult to injury, you have to put up with Carver being a complete tool in the gun accuracy department, his accuracy with weapons is excruciating bad, whilst the mercs have near perfect accuracy, this is why there are liberally scattered health packs and armor around because its nearly impossible not to take hits. The accuracy is poor, imagine an artifical spray and pray - the gun cursor is just a 'basic' indicator where the bullets will go, not nessarily where you are pointing. The gun sights offer slightly better accuracy but still, not good enough considering the accuracy of the mercs and traps.

    Even with some much needed mods like FCam; the game is still a huge chore to play and saving after every encounter with mercs is essential- forget using stealth tactics...if you want working stealth, install Far Cry 2 and skip this.

    As for the difficulty, there is honestly very little difference between easy and realistic difficultly - thats how hard this game is; realistic mode is just mostly for masochists who enjoy dying alot, or who have played the game so much they have remembered the exact layout of the merc placements.    … Expand

    The story is boring and typical even for the worst FPS games: we have one guy with a lot of guns against the army of bad guys and (of course) genetic mutants. Most of the time you are just walking from one island to another, shooting and killing everyone you meet without having a clue what's going on. The enemies are ten times stronger than you, they can see you from a mile away, hear one little sound and they put the entire place on full alert, knowing exactly where you are, I even heard that they can see you threw the walls and rocks which is really stupid and unrealistic. There is no strategy while approaching to the enemy, all the time you are just shooting at them. And sometimes you'll have to shoot at them in different directions, because they can attack you from the air, water and jungle at the same time. The game become very boring after a few hours, because it's all the same; you come to the island, start shooting at the enemy, enter a base or laboratory, shoot new bunch of enemies, push the button or something like that and in the end shoot some more enemies. Maybe it's fun and challenging game for young players, but for me (I like the games with story and challenge, not "shoot to kill" games) it was just a waste of time. There are some cool things in the game, you can switch walking on foot and driving with jeeps, boats,... but that's not enough for a good game.

    Far Cry is overall an average FPS game with bad story and terrible voice acting, annoying game play and after a few hours it become boring and predictable. Trouble in paradise for teenagers.    … Expand

    The game has plenty going for it. Most notably the AI which rivals just about any human that I've played against. What is most interesting is that the AI plays fair. It doesn't have ESP.

    It's like being stranded right smack in the middle of an action-packed B grade movie, and while I'd probably fall asleep half way through the flick, I stayed wide awake and my adrenaline was pumping as mad while playing Far Cry.
