    Only one way to describe this game...IT IS AWSOME!!! It is better that half-life 2 in my opinion. It requires a whole new kind of gameplay. The graphics are great and the AI is magnifisent. Let me tell ya their tactics hurt worse than their rifles. The classic run and gum/spray and pray tactics. Anything els such as assult, ambush,Stelth its all up to you. I got this game like two years ago and I still have so much fun with it. I even think its better than COD 4 lol. the one of the last complaints I have is that the voice acting wasn't that good and the multi-player basicly sux because the maps are so huge and there can be so little players you're pretty much just end spending most of your time looking for someone to kill. But the story is simply outstanding and the awesome environments and so much goodness that you never knew so much fun could be packed into one $20 bill. I want to punch myself for not giving it a 10 But tens are perfect and this game isn't perfect but its EXTREMELY close.… Expand

I LOVE: the change of locale (no more industrial warehouses!), the AI, the beautiful graphics and cool levels. I DISLIKE: the incredible difficulty level. The later levels are mind-bogglingly hard.     As I read in one review of this awesome game...quicksaves are for wimps. My system isn't the best out there (2.4 GHz, 1024 MB ram, Radeon 9600), but I'm running at 1280 x 1024 with everything on "Very High" and it's run very smoothly for me to my surprise. It is one of the best looking games ever. I only give it a 9 and not a 10 because the story only seems like an As I read in one review of this awesome game...quicksaves are for wimps.     This game is AWESOME if you have a speedy system and a very good one if not. I played Splinter Cell 2 in a P4 (2.0Gh) with a 128Mb 4X Card and a 256Mb 8X one. The differences were minor.     Great looking game with good gameplay and nice MP setup. The plot is a little lame but it doesnt effect the game. The fact you cant save your game b/c it's done automatically sucks and is my main issue (FC also could have done w/o the low poly monsters but thats part of the plot I guess :-T ). Great vehicles that let you explore some huge levels and even more fun in MP games. Finally Great looking game with good gameplay and nice MP setup.     An amazing game due to it's sheer size and graphics. You don't have to go staight to a point and complete a mission, you can circle the entire island on all forms of transportation and look at the lush environments, then proceed and cap the heads of mercenaries. Easily my favorite parts of the game are when you're in the jungle and hunting mercs.. And the havok engine, which is also used in Painkiller, is by FAR thhe best engine on ANY system. You all should be glad we can shoot through the enemy's legs now. One step closer to realism.… Expand

    Too good to be true! I gave it 9 cause multiplay game isn't as deep and finished as campaign. For the campaign i would give 10+!

    In this day where multi-player is progressively dominating the market. Its nice to see a good single player FPS for once, albeit its not one without faults, a glitchy AI(ocassionally), bad saving system (limited saves is still best IMO). Graphically it is superb, especially on high-end comps and sound is virtually faultless. The story wont win any awards but keeps the player going anyway.

    I think that, if this game had been released after Doom 3, it would have gotten better reviews. When it was released this spring, everyone were comparing it to the amazing great experience they imagined Doom 3 would be. Well, now that Doom 3 has been released and is pretty disappointing overall, maybe people will start appreciating Far Cry a little bit more.

This game's AI may not revolve around the sound meter as much, but it certainly makes an impact on the brilliant AI. Any sound they hear is deemed as suspicious, and these guys are ready for anything. If they spot you, they will sometimes try to get backup, and they use group mechanics pretty well for a game of 2004. On the intense difficulty, they are a marvel of the electronic age. There are some minor flaws. The story is not very in-depth, and there are of course some bugs in the AI. Overall though this is really an amazing game, and is well worth the 10 dollars you need to buy this. On a note, this game came out before the source engine, and before half-life 2, so if you see reviews saying things like the game is 'a ripoff of the source engine, and Half-Life 2 as a jungle', keep in mind that some people are not up to date in their information as gamers.… Expand

    Ive been waiting for Half life 2 and was not as excited to find out that Farcry was shipping in late March. And when I read the reviews and started playing this game, boy was i wrong! It beats the hide and seek tactics i enjoyed in Vietcong and the indoor/underground base levels gave me that same feeling of terror i originally felt in Half life; but now with Doom 3 style lighting.     This game is simply revolutionary. The graphics are the best there is out there, both indoors and outdoors, especially if you have a decently fast card supporting directx9.0b effects, and the physics are great too. Combine the engine, the AI, and the rest of the overall gameplay and you definitely have the best FPS experience in a few years.     Almost perfect game. It's still one of the best FPS ever made, very innovatie graphic/A.I./engine wise, almost as a second coming of the first Unreal. Don't forget to play Matto3 and Matto4 mods.

    My second pc game and second in rank to.Very very good graphics for its time and even now.Long campaign varied landscapes good AI not many weapons.The see is gorgeous.The game play puts you on a ex-mercenary role.I must say there are few vehicles but better few than none.Pretty realistic.Challenging.Sometimes scary.BUT DAMN GOOD.9

    Classic FPS. I found blowing **** up in this tropical paradise to be a rewarding experience. You can definitely see the foundation for Crysis throughout the game. My only regret was playing it on the highest difficulty setting which cost me hours of ultimately rewarding frustration.

    FarCry is an amazing game with spectacular graphics for its time! It is obviously a first person shooter that doesn't add much at all really in that aspect but the physics work great. The only concern I would have is difficulty but I guess that's my fault for sucking at it! It would be nice if the A.I eased up a little bit though! It is also one of the biggest first person shooters I've played with 20 huge levels based all around the island. So on an ending note... Buy it!… Expand

I had never played Far Cry before and am certainly not a fan boy, I just can appreciate a great game. The graphics, to 2004's standards, are outstanding.     It is really unfortunate that I have to say this is the last Crytek game from which I had a lot of fun. At that time it had everything, it was a great competition to the even great Half-Life 2. So sad that latest Crytek products wont leave any meaningful trace in gaming history, except to be remembered as benchmarks.

    A really beautiful and addict FPS. One of the best all time. I enjoyed the graphics so much, water reflections and the distance view without poping. With a good story it would take 10.

    Still amazing graphics for a 2004 game. Was quite graphics demanding for its time. Before Crysis it was...but can it run Far Cry?? The most difficult Far Cry game by a good margin. Revolutionary in many ways.

    Un gran videojuego que innovó mucho con un gran mapa con una gran belleza visual , en cuanto a armas el juego lo hace muy bien puesto que añade una de cada tipo , la dificultad es desafiante y a veces puede resultar injusta , pero nada que el modo fácil no pueda solucionar , pero sin duda lo mejor del juego es el gameplay . On the other hand maybe it is the only right way to evaluate a game: I think we have to look at different pieces of art (such as movies, books and of course games) in the context of the time they were released in. Of course, this game as many others of that period didn’t age too well. Does it make FarCry 1 a bad game? Definitely not. While we had games like Half-Life 2 and World of WarCraft which were released the same year and which definitely became classic which aged much better and can be revisited today and still be fun doesn’t necessarily mean that all the other games released in the same period should be considered an utter trash. Half-Life 2 was just too good. 10 out of 10. Game of the year. While Far Cry 1 was just a good game which definitely was much better than people tend to make it to be nowadays. Of course revisited now the game doesn’t shine in almost every aspect for an average consumer but when I played this game about a decade ago I was literally blown away by the game. The graphics were insane, the guns felt real, the missions were truly challenging. I didn’t care much about the story back then but when the big monster-mutants appeared in the game I certainly was intrigued and wanted to find out what is going on.
    Far Cry 1 is far away from a perfect game…by today’s measures. I can only judge by the feelings I had when I played it then and I have nothing but warm memories about that times so for me to rate the game with anything less than 7/10 would be atrocious.    … Expand

    Since I finished the game, it still makes you feel playing kind of a newer game style. Never getting old in my opinion. On some parts of it just a little bit exaggerated about harder difficulty. AI is a totally masterpiece for an 2004 game. Other than those, even at these times you can still enjoy.

    The game redefines its graphics with the same blowing stuff-up storyline. This time they have added a wingsuit which makes travelling around the massive open world so much easier and just when you thought what more can you destroy that was not in the previous games, well now you can destroy bridges as well and the destruction looks so amazing. The game has too much grinding which becomes very tedious once you are stuck finding a microphone hidden somewhere in the city to be able to liberate it or a cop stuck behind a wall which is frustrating since you need to take all of them down to liberate the town. Some military camps have special requirements to liberate them which makes it fun otherwise liberating cities is awfully boring.… Expand

Bear in mind the multiplayer is way below par - buy this for the single player game only. And a comment about power - I have a top spec rig, and still it's only playable on medium settings. I wouldn't touch this until you've got a really powerful machine. Well worth a look, but unless you're a "get your money's worth" type of gamer, you probably won't play it through.… Expand

    I remember playing this in years ago and I enjoyed it. What's wrong with this game? it may be a little repetitive going there go to the next level and starting all over again but this game is fun for killing.

    Very good game, even today I was able to replay it all and I wish more recent game simulated what this game did, just throws you into a jungle and let's you figure out the rest for there. It's a shame the sequel is such a horrible mess.

There are plenty of bugs and glitches. Some were so major that I was forced to reload a save point several times. The game engine and physics is different than most other games, and this takes a little getting used to. The main character's voice acting is pretty bad. Almost to the point of making it sound like a comedy. For whatever idiotic reason, the game alters the Windows audio settings to its liking without setting them back to their original state. This is extremely annoying. Staying in the subject of sound, do a Google search and you will see the massive amount of sound problems people experience in this game. To access the multiplayer portion of the game, one is forced to register and create an account with Ubisoft, which is absolutely ridiculous. The developers clearly reward players who specialize in stealth and skill shots rather than running and gunning. The atmosphere, mood, and setting are superb; providing a tense and exciting experience almost every second of the game. The tension you will experience is not often produced by other games at this same level. There are many parts where you will be spooked and surprised by what comes around the corner or appears suddenly. It is all done very well. Level design in this game is outstanding. The AI is good, and there is always a challenge. Far Cry is all thriller, no filler. It took me about 17 hours to complete.… Expand

If you haven't played it yet, don't buy Crysis, but instead get this copy before any other title made on the CryEngines! Even if it's not as advanced as Crysis itself, you could say Far Cry has an unique ambience which is irriplacable.

    I do have to say that it runs difficult on Windows 7 without the 64-bit patch from AMD, so consider taking that patch before playing it on W7.

    Aside from that, there are no technical flaws except that it is still heavy for a 'old' game.

    - Graphics & visuals are astonishing (even compared to Crysis)

    The best is the level design and the players have gotten dark halls to enjoy beautiful beaches in a Pacific island. Although I must say that in my Steam version of some chapters had errors in the textures and looked totally red mountains!     Took me quite a while to finish the game I love a long gameplay. I've enjoyed the game for the most part; the levels were all exciting and, at times, scary. Combat could get a bit tricky, but I've only played in Realistic difficulty. Enemies were hard to deal with in groups but easy to pick off with a low profile. Excited to get started on Far Cry 2!

    I remember this game blew my mind when I young. One of my fondest memories was when I first experienced Far Cry on a PC gamer demo disk and borrowed it from my mate straight after. Give it a try if you want to see where Far Cry began.

On the flipside, Far Cry could be very boring and frustrating to play at times because of how imperfect or imbalanced it was - a trait which Crytek's next game, Crysis, shared. But on the whole, Far Cry is a great 'Golden Era' FPS game that is frequently overlooked and often underappreciated.

    This game is able to provide you lots of fun with an interesting & deep story, saturated gameplay, a bit fearful encounters. There are lots of options how to achieve a target, locations & targets vary rather often, in that cause you will never feel boring from this game.

Enemies are not stupid, but rather smart guys. The levels are beautiful and memorable. The Cry Engine is a great engine, but demanding for 2004. The game gets me 8/10

    일단 몰입감과 게임성 하나는 정말 수작인 듯 싶습니다. 하지만 동일 장르에 바이오쇼크의 깊이와 철학 그리고 연출에 비해서는 아쉽지만, 열대와 템플 등 적절한 배경과 적절한 스토리 그리고 여러 무기와 장비들이 화려하진 않지만 FPS의 근-본같은 느낌이네요.

First and foremost, you'll probably be enchanted by the breathtaking visuals for the time, which few adepts at the time could boast. For 2004, it was simply over the top. The gameplay was... What was? Actually, it's still fun. I mean, it's a first-person shooter. Just throw a gun in my hand and let me go wild! This is just action with a capital A. In Far Cry 1, you're going to have a blast in the shootouts, which are great, but unfortunately, this all has one minor downside, and that's that you don't have the freedom that you do in more recent installments. The first one is quite straightforward. The map we're used to isn't quite there. There is no radar to show you where to go. Unfortunately, you don't even have the delicious choice to choose whether to drive that part silently or in action. So if you're a fan of more of a silent sneak, this action-packed game is not for you. You don't choose your weapons here and only take them from your dead enemies. Although there is a silenced MP5 for example, the enemies will still notice you sooner or later and so even if you do try for some silent progression, it's definitely not something the game is counting on or even the style you should play the game. So, in conclusion, what is Far Cry 1 and who is it for? If you love action as much as I do and you're not exactly a fan of stealth, again like me, I wouldn't hesitate too much to pick up the game. If you're not a master of English, you'll be pleased to know that there is a Czech dub! It's an old classic that can be played on any PC nowadays, so almost anyone can play it. On Steam, it costs only 10 ecus, which is a couple of hundred, and with such a discount, this game will literally cost you a few crowns. It might not suit you, as it's quite a bit different compared to newer FC games, but you might also love it.… Expand

First of all I started the installation which on the second cd, it corrupted, sending my dvd drive spastic, so I returned the game to get the DVD version. So I installed it, WOW, I got into the game to find all the graphics going weird, A little angry I then looked on the net to find the Hmmmm Far Cry- The Cry part is what I experienced for the first week trying to set up the game. So I installed it, WOW, I got into the game to find all the graphics going weird, A little angry I then looked on the net to find the solution, I needed to update my ATI radeon 9200 drivers. So I installed it and got back in ready to get trigger happy. After the first few min I wasn't happy, no Anti-Alasing, hello were going back to the old days of the PS1. I tryed to turned it on but it crashed my computer. My little athlon 64 wasn't enough, it needed a $1000 graphics card to look fantastic. Bumper. So I played and with a little luck I completed it in less that three days. Boring, its mean't to be non linear!, it seemed pretty straight forward to me. So I decided to compare how far we have come in the last six years to halflife1 & MOH. Ok, maybe a little old but they have two strong components to a FPS. One puzzles and interaction with the environment. On numerous occasions I see opposing characters looking blankly out to sea, it doesn't happen in real life, there is all was one who does something random like having a smoke or adjusting his crutch etc. Look at MOH's first level, everyones havin a smoke playing cards, chuck a granade everyone starts flying. Things like this make games special. Also if this AI is really good why is it possible to get every opponent in section to come over and get mowed down leaving turrets empty which would have mowed me down! its a little stupid. Going back hl1, there was always something blowing up in your face, in farcry nothing, I never got crushed by anything during the game or get swept off my feet except for the boat sinking!. Its got some good features like a small but neat physics engine but the overall the game won't compare to half life 2.… Expand

    The game is decent. It features a lot of cool moments and technically it all works. It could well be a 9 if only it saved it self from two dick moves: Mutants and lame weapons. Also the end is a no brainer because it's based around the Arena principle instead of open fighting to wich you will be used by then. O, stay far away from the movie, it's horrible.

    This was a shock to me..I thought that this was going to be a trip of a life time....well so much for expectations. It left me with the same sort of disappointment that I had in my brain after Halo 2, though not as extreme. Far Cry is honestly a game that I wish I could love..but I could not find any sort of motivation to keep me moving..just endless streams of fighting and killing. It was like a very non-thrilling The Suffering, just endless waves of violence and no plot what so ever. There was nothing to make me want to move through the beautifully crafted levels and there was nothing that motivated me to even try to shoot anb antagonist's head off...many would say that this is what made Doom III a good game...Doom three had complexity in its style though..it kept you moving because of how unexpected you were..and of course you wanted to kill that King of Hell...In Half-Life 2 there is a dense story and intruiging characters that keep you wanting to fight to the end and save all that you've seen...Even in games as shallow as Halo (The first) there was a thrill to be held. But this game was just way too predictable and for all of its technical beauty it was just too dull to keep moving. After beating this game even though I found it pleasingly challeneging...I felt terribly empty inside.… Expand

    A stealth game with broken stealth.

    WOOHOO! Being spotted 6 miles away by an enemy with no eyes!
    I don't see the appeal in a 'Crappy' Stealth game, stealth is all about sneaking past the enemy, not taking out a molotov and letting go.

    Great game for the time it was released. Awesome story and setting, gunplay is equally satisfying. It's also quite challenging at certain parts. The level design can get a bit confusing at times and mission objectives are sometimes a bit unclear. But overall it is a well done experience.

    Technically stunning for its time. Gunplay works fine and enemy AI is good, perhaps a little too good to be realistic. Multiplayer is great but the singleplayer is just decent.

    This game is a mix of very good and very bad elements, and while it ends up being a good overall package, it could have been much better. The graphics were gorgeous for its day (especially the environment) and many of the levels are very large and open, with plenty of options for approaching problems. In addition, the enemies you face eventually become very tough and thus severely limit your tactical options (e.g. soldiers that can survive a sniper shot to the face or mutants that take 5 rocket hits to kill). The characters are entirely forgettable, the voice acting sucks, and the story is cliche and boring. The vehicles are very difficult to control and often just make you a bullet magnet. The weapon selection is moderately good, with an array of choices for both subtlety and fireworks. Far Cry is a game well worth playing, but one which failed to live up to its stellar potential.… Expand

    This game was pretty good, and the graphics are impressive for such an old game. however, the game get's boring after a while. its a little bit all the way the same thing: Shooting, driving, shooting, driving and shooting... Still its a great game and its cheap.

    All in all it is a good game, but considering Half Life 2 was released in the same year, Far Cry had no comparable special game mechanics at all.     A Classic! I have completed it multiple times. It takes a little to get into the storyline, but once you are off to the jungle you cant stop playing.

Yes, I didn’t give it a low rating, because there were interesting moments and the general story and game-play were pleasant until a certain moment ... but then the author's brain was blown away and the whole monster's appearance killed the interest that went down the drain.     The game has plenty going for it. Most notably the AI which rivals just about any human that I've played against. What is most interesting is that the AI plays fair. It doesn't have ESP.

    It's like being stranded right smack in the middle of an action-packed B grade movie, and while I'd probably fall asleep half way through the flick, I stayed wide awake and my adrenaline was pumping as mad while playing Far Cry.
