This and FC3 are my fav in the series. While I love FC3 for Vass and the amazing island vibes, this is another story. I always wanted a game taking place in this time period and I've got what I wanted. Loved the vibe, the places, the story, the music, everything. It was an amazing experience and someday I'll replay this one. Now to quote Soulfly... back to the primitive! Pickens approves it!

I love the constant search for crafting materials, I like the enemy tribe design, I loved being able to tame animals to accompany you and scare off enemies, the owl was awesome for taking over outposts and bonfires without even setting foot in them. The environment design was brilliant, I almost never got stuck wandering around the base of a hill with no way up, there are slopes and grappling hook points everywhere. Only problem was the Izala final boss was a pain in the butt to kill. I've replayed this game twice and I now don't even bother with her because it's not fun for me. The Udam boss was no problem but with her it was just attack, take out reinforcements, repeat, to the point where you have hardly any resources left to make weapons. Aside from that, this was one of my favourite games to add to my replay roster. If you don't like collecting, crafting, taming and taking out outposts then this is probably not the game for you Expand

The last good Far Cry. I don't understand why it's so low-rated on Metacritic. Great game overall. Very atmospheric, the gameplay is fun, the story is ok. Primal had me gripped heavy to my screen trying to understand all that the world had to offer. I loved taming animals and riding them around. I loved running and seeing the wildlife. I think that people expected some intense gameplay like other titles in the series but instead were met with something I felt was more down to earth.

Remains one of my favourites in the series and I doubt that'll change anytime soon.

Far Cry: Primal is AWESOME so far! Firstly, from a technical point of view, the game is running great: a steady 60 FPS with no dips on a 970 (and on my other rig with a Titan X) at ultra preset. The graphics look good, a small upgrade over Far Cry 4, and for those with monitors in a 16:10 ratio, GOOD NEWS: they FINALLY support it correctly - no more black bars at the top and bottom!Far Cry: Primal is AWESOME so far! From a gameplay perspective controls feel smooth, combat is tight, and the mission setup is very good. The game seems to focus heavily on hunting, at least so far, and that's fun to me. Getting an animal companion is fun as well. I already tamed a dire wolf and commanding him to kill an unwitting Udam is just a blast. I also appreciate that there are some animals you just don't mess with right away or you WILL die. It adds an element of "holy crap, run" to the game. The AI is spot on for the cavemen (Udam) as well. They aren't terrribly smart, but they ARE cavemen, so it works with the immersion. Crafting has been heavily refined from Far Cry 4 and it feels far more useful this time around. Building a village and raising a population also feels highly rewarding becuase as the population grows and the village becomes more complex, they will actually work for you and produce much needed goods that translate to weapon upgrades and items.

Finally, one of the most impressive aspects of the game for me so far is the use of sounds. It is completely immersive and makes me feel like I am indeed right in the middle of the wilds during the stone age. Everything from the crackling of wood as it burns, to the sounds of birds in the not-so-far distance, to the cry of a lone wolf in the far distance, to the sound of wild dogs gnawing on a fresh kill just brings you into the world and keeps you there.

Anyway, all in all, GREAT so far! Get it, play it, enjoy it! Right now I'd say it's an 8.5/10 and if the story turns out to be good: 9/10.

Before I started writing this, I saw a Reddit post about the fact that FC4 and Primal use the same world map. It's literally identical, they just modded it, and the games supposedly don't even take place in the same continent. I didn't notice this while playing, and that's not a damning factor on its own, but it speaks volumes about the mentality with which the devs made this game. Primal is a FC4 spinoff in an interesting setting, but with most of the features missing.

If you remember the FC4 missions where you have a tiger and you tell it to attack things, that's basically the entirety of Primal. Ubisoft do like taking parts of games that players found interesting and expanding on them, which is great. The problem is that they didn't expand on anything here. The tiger missions in FC4 lasted as long as they should without overstaying their welcome, and in no way can they support an entire game on their own. Not without adding a LOT of other gameplay. And no, that DOESN'T mean just padding and busywork, Ubisoft.

I can't recommend Primal to anyone at full price. I would only recommend this at 50% sale, and again only to people who have already played FC3 and 4, want more, AND have a high tolerance for busywork. At least Blood Dragon had its own map.

Far Cry Primal does steer away away from their traditional story like from 1-4 but introduces a pre historic era of games. But it doesn't seem to work. There is nothing interesting about this game, it's not memorable, even the gameplay mechanics feel all the same. Shame on you Ubisoft... this is nothing more than a cash grab.

This game will be forgotten in a few months, maybe even a few weeks. The only time people will use this game is for bench marking purposes and not for the actual story. Same that the franchise has come to this. This had a lot of potential.

I can understand how this game can be boring in Normal Mode, it's basically like other Far Cry games. But if you play it on Survival Mode + Hard difficulty, it's going to be an entirely different experience.

You will be constantly fighting for your life, there are wild beasts that want to kill you everywhere. But you can use fire and other tools to take down the beasts and other enemies.

You can also tame beasts. There are beasts that could be tamed easily, but there are also beasts that you have to beat them up first before taming them. And those beasts are usually very strong, it makes taming them a very rewarding experience.

So to sum it up, if you like games like Resident Evil 4 or The Last of Us where it puts you to the limit to survive, you will probably appreciate Far Cry Primal too (but remember to play on Survival Mode).

    Normal Mode + Normal Difficulties = 6.5/10

    Survival Mode + Hard Difficulties = 9/10

Primitive gameplay cycle of Far Cry, placed in primitive world, suddenly starts to make sense, and even story doesn’t feel as barebones and perfunctory as usual. Here, you’re not playing as a skinny frat boy who suddenly discovers a talent for killing hardened soldiers but ultimately just wants to get back to civilization – you’re a hunter who simply wants to become respectable leader of his tribe with a personal luxury cave.
