In addition to the usual Far Cry series, it was different that it was set in the stone age. Again, his main theme was to destroy a few bad leaders and raise a weak community. Although it was good visually, there was a lot of simple and repetitive things.

The idea of the whole game was original and pretty good. But when facing the reality it just doesn't quite make any sense and it kinda gets boring after one playthrough. The first few hours of the game were a blast tho.

Looks flashy but has little to offer that you haven't seen before. Basically a re-skinned version of Far Cry 3/4. Boring to the bone once you get the hang of it. Everything is confusing, the difficulty is terribly unbalanced, visuals can be an eyesore. Basically, I don't think this is worth the money unless you get it for the price of a cheap DLC.

This game was gifted to me because after being burned so many times by Ubisoft, I decided not to buy their games unless discounted during sales. This game should not have been sold for the full price because in certain aspect it is simply a re-skin of Far Cry 4.

There really was no surprise that the game wasn't well optimized. Although it ran considerably better than previous games there were problem in the form of fps drops and character lag as they moved. Since the last Ubisoft game I've played on my PC, I have upgraded from my old specs (i7/24gbram/970) to now an (i7/24gbram/980Ti). Although in this case it did not help much. The game is not well optimized as far as CPU utilization is concerned. Perhaps dual core processors might have a better shot at a smoother game.

As far as gameplay is concerned I had fun. I had fun taming the beasts. I had fun crafting the new weapons. I had fun with the colourful characters. Story although not in any way unique was also enjoyable.

What is undeniable however is that this game is a Far Cry re-skin. The map is from Far Cry 4 and a number of the mechanics are from Far Cry 4. This guy should have been sold at a slight discount from full price.

After a patch or two the game should be running quite well.

In first, I would beginning with my favorite theme - game design. Ubisoft do this so pretty. I am really enjoyed, when I walking along the primal world. Flora, fauna and common landscape look so beautiful. That’s always give me high feel – I fell myself adventurer. In last my text, I tell you how much proved this primal world with real history.

If we will talk about map, here have interest moment. Let’s start with that – map is copyright from Far Cry. Please, don’t think that is bad, just fact. It so similar. Also, it cut off on two sides – south and north, although all main plot action takes only south side. Weird. Besides, in air always staying frog, that decrease visibility range. Interest, but I don’t see far away.

And now let’s take up the plot. It tells us about Takkar – main hero, - who after accident with his comrade during hunting on a mammoth, walking by traces his tribe Wenja. Trought some time he found girl, which lead him in places where earlier lives Wenja – after their kill or slavery tribe Urus. She want revive tribe Wenja and you help her do this.

You will fight with another tribes (their two) and save slavery for your tribe. Also you will extend your village and increase population. My opinion – world is beautiful, plot boring as a caterpillar. We have two enemy tribes and, it fact, two bosses. And first, and second is strong similar, bosses is so boring. Tribes different only in outfit and a few abilities. It’s usually for Far Cry, when you come in alien places and kill everyone, with anthem – I defend my tribe. (smile)
How talking Russian revolutionaries – For all good and against all bad. (Adore this quote)

Boring enemies, okey, but what you tell about your allies? The same thing. They do not remember me, they only stay in villages and give you tasks – that’s don’t do their real person, and all work do you, what do all of they? Nothing. In final of game is so boring and useless. Together with six nonames enjoy win of Wenja. Gorgeous. That’s all.

And now let’s tell about whether proved world?

In first, flora and fauna, a few don’t proved. Saber-toothed tigers, giant irish deer cave bears already died, mammoth yet live, but already not in Europe. Coniferous replace deciduous tree.

In second, Slavery don’t be popular. Probably, people look like else, they were big massive, most weight and had big head. Concerning about language – we don’t know, that’s question is so controversial even in stage Neolithic.

In my final word will be like this – Game is good, but not over this. If you like Far Cry series, why you waiting for? Go in game. And if you want to deep in primal world, you should try play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been playing the Far Cry franchise since the beginning, and with its ups and downs, I have to say this is the worst installment of the lot.

We all know it's a rehash of Far Cry 4; that's okay. The problem is that they did almost nothing to conceal that. Ubisoft could have used the groundwork of Far Cry 4 and then altered it enough to give a unique experience, but they chose instead to barely dress it up and change almost none of the mechanics. That's not acceptable. Not at the prices they ask.

The story is practically non-existent. And God is it lonely. There's almost no one to talk to, no characters to bond with or hate, and no real driving motivation to why we should play the game to begin with. There's just nothing compelling here. As far as story and character are concerned, it's all very shallow. No depth whatsoever. It could have been so much better. Your brother dies, your tribe is on the brink of extinction. Missed opportunity #1.

The terrain is so broken and difficult, I wonder if they were aiming to make a 12,000 year old simulator. Seriously, if the map shows a road, and there's a cliff in the way, that's a problem. And of course, you have to 'unlock' the grappling hook to go any farther. Pathetic. Why not fully embrace the open world concept and give us multiple ways to get where we have to go? Missed opportunity #2.

Stop making me go certain places just to be able to build a damned tool. Just lay out what is required to build it, and make me go find those items. This negates the entire concept of Far Cry. Ubisoft says open world games are the future, but they sure as hell don't act like it. They also did this in Far Cry 5. "Do what you want, until we tell you it's time to do something else." Missed opportunity #3.

Hunter vision, bee bombs, poison clay pots? At this point the game has gone from clumsy FPS to magic fantasy junk. The idea of having real hunting mechanics and relying on scent, sound, and sight sounds amazing. When you are crafting a game based on a specific historical period where no one knew what a germ was, but has magic laser eyesight....You've lost the plot. Playing in 10,000 B.C. is interesting enough. You don't have to give me magical powers to dress it up. Missed opportunity #4.

All in all, it's a boring, lazy moneygrab. No depth, clumsy magic powers, no story, no motivation, and no creativity. Good graphics and wildlife are not enough to redeem this troubled mistake of a game.

First of all, I want to say that I'm not an expert on Far Cry games. And this game is the first Far Cry game that I have ever completed. So maybe this is the main reason I was having fun playing Far Cry: Primal.

Far Cry: Primal is a good experiment with style and atmosphere. I don't think that primal age is a bad choice for a game like Far Cry. You will see all typical Far Cry things

Far Cry: Primal is a good experiment with style and atmosphere. I don't think that primal age is a bad choice for a game like Far Cry. You will see all typical Far Cry things like enemy posts, open world, breathtaking battles, and a little stupid plot. But in primal ages you don't have weapons you used to, in this game you have to use primitive weapons like clubs, bows, spears, slingshot, bombs with poison and bees. And limitation like that will allow you to watch on Far Cry from another point of view.

I gonna give this game 5 out of 10 because I was really taking fun playing it. Isn't that is most important in video games?

Far Cry: Primal is a very good experiment with the Far Cry series, and I wish this game has a better plot and things that make you survive like hunger, thirst, etc.

So I usually bought games like Primal, played for many hours because I want to complete everything, then I realized that not only I paid a considerable amount of money for THIS and do not get any pleasure playing, but I spent a lot of time without actual joy. Though I keep playing, because it is like a candy crash saga, a mild drug. You like mindless game where you constantly gain some levels, collect stuff and told how good you are. And you hate yourself for this, but keep spending time on it.

Primal is so boring and lazy, even I can not spend more than 3 hours playing it. Ubisoft does not refund digital downloads, and that is good! If I could return money it would keep up my good attitude towards this studio and next year I would have gotten in the same trap of buying worthless time-spender. No, I have to be punished, thus I will not forget). Thank you, Ubisoft, with Primal you cured me of your games. I am afraid now even if a new Michel Ancel game is released under Ubi publisher, I am not buying it.

Primal's story is so scarce that if you dig a full cinematic video of this game on youtube you will not loose anything. Side missions are copy-paste: you either protect people from animals/enemies, or you escort people while killing animals/enemies, or you simply kill animals/enemies. Most of the skills are passive improvements. Even on Expert difficulty the game is easy. Collectibles now don't even have lore to them, you just have to grab-em-all! I did not like in Far cry games the fact that there is no value to new weapons, just after prologue you already get a decent number of weapons to choose from and you can use just any two of them to beat the game, but further you can at least try to use different guns to renovate gameplay. So I'd welcome less guns but more effort to get them. But just 3 weapons in Primal for the whole game is another bad idea Combat gets repetitive in the beginning of the game already. And close combat system is bad, it does not hold against Condemned or Dark Messiah of M&M.

Please, guys. If you want open world survival action, go play Dying light. It has better plot, side missions, crafting, climbing and fighting system. Seriously, anything is better in Dying light. Even the price.

    Shame on you, Ubisoft.

Having said that, yes, Primal is just as boring and repetitive as the rest of the Farcry games. And if you like that, fine, buy it and enjoy it. But if you didn't think much of the former Farcry games, just save your money.

Suffice it to say that the free-roam and random mission gameplay is excellent! I know that those who crave the Rambo-esque style of gunplay from the former titles will likely look at the clubs and spears as a step back for the series, but I really appreciate "going Medieval" over "rapid fire" any day -- so this was right up my alley.

It's the boss fights that *completely* destroy the experience. What a travesty. I should have seen it coming after the first ridiculous "Great Hunts" (against signature animals). Rather than it functioning like anything remotely connected to a HUNT...it's simply an exercise in eye-rolling frustration as you die over and over again taking down a bear or sabre-toothed tiger with more hit points than an M1 Abrams tank. Employ strategy? Nope. Set up a tactical ambush using the environment? Nope. Craft special foods to give yourself the particular edge to emerge victorious? Nope. Tame a certain animal that can exploit the beast's weakness? Nope.

You just run around like a lunatic unloading every trap, bomb, spear, club, arrow, throwing shard, and tamed beast in your arsenal while the "Great Beast" simply one-shots or maybe two-shots everything it touches and moves around at about 150% the normal speed. After reloading 4 or 5 times to frantically mash attack buttons, you'll be able to subdue it.

Which gives you the ability to tame and use this monstrosity and all of its supernatural abilities -- right???

    Nope.

As soon as you defeat it, it seems to become a normal beast with a different look. So you can't even use it effectively against other "Great Beasts", as it will be put down just as fast as everything else.

And the boss fights against human villains are even WORSE. The fight against Ull is the single lamest, stupidest, most un-immersive, boss fight I think I've ever encountered in a video game since the 1980's. For a brief while, I thought, "No...I'm missing something! I have to be. This must work like Dark Souls -- a pattern I need to find...or a specific weakness..."

    NOPE.

Just using a few, one-off, environmental damage positions before spamming every available attack ad nauseam for over 15 minutes while Ull just continues wandering around, taking spear after spear after spear, club after club after club, arrow after arrow after arrow...and simply not dying. On...and on...and on...an on...

But -- BUT -- Surely, the other bosses won't be like this! SURELY -- it was just this fight because it's, like, Ull's special thing. Right? Surely!!!

    >

I'm not even going into the fight against Batari. Instant un-installation.

What the @#$% happened, Ubisoft??? What in honest, living creation!? I have to award this at least a 4 for the ~20 hours of incredible enjoyment the free-play provided...the beautiful world...the really neat Survival Mode... But what should have been one of the most rewarding parts of the game -- tackling the major antagonists and advancing the story -- left me trembling in rage at the utter, pointless, frustrating, monotonous, cheap, trifling execution. It's completely unforgivable. I simply have to ensure the game is in the red.

And, I'm sorry. I have never seen a title so instantly destroy every single thing that makes it enjoyable for the sake of "padding the length". The effect is awful. Learn from this disaster. Please.

I loved Far Cry 3 and became Jason Brody until I became Rex Colt in the best ubi DLC Blood Dragon - which deserve full fledged game UBI!!!!! I enjoyed flying in my jumpsuit in Kyrat - Far Cry 4.

But I did NOT enjoy Far Cry Primal. - your own tribe has no SOUL in them, You do

But I did NOT enjoy Far Cry Primal.

    - your own tribe has no SOUL in them, You do not build any relationship with them.
    - shallow characters - they are there just to give you fetch quest, nothing more.
    - used map is big flaw.
    - enemies - they are interesting, but you don't have much opportunities to know them better.
    - weapons - the biggest flaw are weapons, there is not many of them and they are mostly the same.
    - owl - that is just ridiculous
    - death of your animals - there is no penalty what so ever. You just bring new one.
    - ecosystem - it's just **** Far Cry 4, WTF?
    - story
    - missions
    - mammoth missions - oh GOD (sorry, not your fault) OH UBI, just why are you punishing us. This is EXTRA **** AWFUL. Never again. So much for pre-order bonuses. I got burned and I will never forget.
    - it takes itself too serious.

    + Cave Drawings
    + Collectibles
    + Face animations
    + Venja dialect.
+ Stealth take-downs are fun as always
    + Fire
+ Leather costumes - they look like cavemen.
    + Outpost are fun.
    + great artistic style

Summary: If you have choice between this and another Far Cry, choose another Far Cry. Unless this is for 5 - 15 bucks/euros.

    WISH FOR:

BLOOD DRAGON 2 with cheesy one liners. 80 's feels. Great Music and just fun game-play. Sci-fi is great for your creativity, use it. Create new take-downs. Peace!

Big fan of the Far Cry series but this was a "no go" for me. Played it for about 12 hours and just got bored like most. It was generally because none of the characters were interesting since they didn't speak any English (yes I know there are subtitles) and instead spoke gibberish, story seemed pretty much just strengthen the Wenja tribe which got boring as time went on, the CQC was so badBig fan of the Far Cry series but this was a "no go" for me. I could complain about many more problems like the outdated graphics, poor checkpoint placement, lazy map design (heard that the map layout is very similar to Far Cry 4) but in other words it's pretty much a game that gets boring and frustrating over time. Don't get me wrong riding animals is pretty cool but everything else just seemed sort of "disappointing".

The hackneyed story doesn't detract from the thrilling world and new challenges of 10,000BC. [Issue#249, p.45]

There is a seed of a fascinating game hidden somewhere in Far Cry: Primal, but, I’m afraid, someone else will have to find it and grow it.

Primitive gameplay cycle of Far Cry, placed in primitive world, suddenly starts to make sense, and even story doesn’t feel as barebones and perfunctory as usual. Here, you’re not playing as a skinny frat boy who suddenly discovers a talent for killing hardened soldiers but ultimately just wants to get back to civilization – you’re a hunter who simply wants to become respectable leader of his tribe with a personal luxury cave.
