I like this game. I know, I know, there is no guns, no cars and no chopters, but still it is a good game. Why? Well, firts of all, it is very original, the story is convincing and well written. The game is also full of emotion every aspect of it has been well planned and designed. Plus, the graphics are excellent as well as the AI. I bought Far Cry Primal for PC (GTX 980M, Intel Core i7-6820HK).

Technical: I had no errors or issues installing and playing the game (I did not pre-order or pre-download). My laptop can play the game on Ultra @ 35-40 fps, Very Good @ 42-50 fps, and Good >60 fps. I prefer to play on "Good" settings for a smoother gameplay. I think the game looks beautiful, one of the most beautiful I've seen (and I have a bad habit of buying too many games). The setting probably plays into this; the huge trees make the setting feel more filled and real, compared to the very difficult challenge of making a lot of small regular trees look and behave real without stressing your system's GPU demands to the limit.

Gameplay: This is more subjective. I really enjoy the Primal setting and I don't mind not having guns or explosions. In lieu of flamethrowers, it's pretty fun to light a club on fire and then throw it at the grass or bushes near enemies to catch them in a mini wildfire. Taming beasts is fun simply because... who wouldn't want a saber-toothed tiger as a pet. I agree that the story seems lacking a little, but I don't mind because I personally find most stories fairly linear and uninteresting in the end (excluding GTA 5, Last of Us, etc.). Don't yell at me; it's just my personal experience and preference that unless a game has a deep and intriguing story, I take it all with a grain of salt and I enjoy immersive and open world environments with challenges and the ability to level-up.

Giving the game an inflated 10 to try to somewhat offset all the MORONS who who never played the game, but automatically rate every Ubisoft game as a zero.

In reality...solid 8/10. Great graphics, amazing setting...if you like the other far cry games, you will greatly enjoy this one as well. The core mechanics are the the same, but there is enough innovation to make things interesting.

What really makes this game and I mean absolutely money is the beastmaster aspect. I have never played a game with this feature and it is such a wonderful way of chaging the Far Cry dynamic. I love using my owl to spot targets, send out my bear or saber tooth tiger to take out or distract heavies and while the enemy are distracting come charging in behind for vicious take-downs or excellent bow head shots. Pure love. If you pay attention, you'll notice that you'll want a different animal depending on what you want to do. Need to hunt - go with the white lion. Need muscle but a scavenger - go with the bear. Need pure brute force - your saber tooth tiger is your friend. Want to take out that pesky horn holding enemy - send in your black panther to do the dirty work. Its wonderful. You can even come charing in on the back of your saber tooth tiger like the original caveman bad ass - literally scaring your enemy into running away. Dismount and send your friend to hunt the cowards down. Love it. Love the focus on the animals. Highly recommend. Expand

This and FC3 are my fav in the series. While I love FC3 for Vass and the amazing island vibes, this is another story. I always wanted a game taking place in this time period and I've got what I wanted. Loved the vibe, the places, the story, the music, everything. It was an amazing experience and someday I'll replay this one. Now to quote Soulfly... back to the primitive! Pickens approves it!

Far Cry: Primal is AWESOME so far! Firstly, from a technical point of view, the game is running great: a steady 60 FPS with no dips on a 970 (and on my other rig with a Titan X) at ultra preset. From a gameplay perspective controls feel smooth, combat is tight, and the mission setup is very good. The game seems to focus heavily on hunting, at least so far, and that's fun to me. Getting an animal companion is fun as well. I already tamed a dire wolf and commanding him to kill an unwitting Udam is just a blast. I also appreciate that there are some animals you just don't mess with right away or you WILL die. It adds an element of "holy crap, run" to the game. The AI is spot on for the cavemen (Udam) as well. They aren't terrribly smart, but they ARE cavemen, so it works with the immersion. Crafting has been heavily refined from Far Cry 4 and it feels far more useful this time around. Building a village and raising a population also feels highly rewarding becuase as the population grows and the village becomes more complex, they will actually work for you and produce much needed goods that translate to weapon upgrades and items.

Finally, one of the most impressive aspects of the game for me so far is the use of sounds. It is completely immersive and makes me feel like I am indeed right in the middle of the wilds during the stone age. Everything from the crackling of wood as it burns, to the sounds of birds in the not-so-far distance, to the cry of a lone wolf in the far distance, to the sound of wild dogs gnawing on a fresh kill just brings you into the world and keeps you there.

Anyway, all in all, GREAT so far! Get it, play it, enjoy it! Right now I'd say it's an 8.5/10 and if the story turns out to be good: 9/10.

The environment design was brilliant, I almost never got stuck wandering around the base of a hill with no way up, there are slopes and grappling hook points everywhere. Only problem was the Izala final boss was a pain in the butt to kill. I've replayed this game twice and I now don't even bother with her because it's not fun for me. The Udam boss was no problem but with her it was just attack, take out reinforcements, repeat, to the point where you have hardly any resources left to make weapons. Aside from that, this was one of my favourite games to add to my replay roster. If you don't like collecting, crafting, taming and taking out outposts then this is probably not the game for you Expand

A very underrated game. I think Ubi did a fantastic job given the restraints of the setting. The amount of polish is incredible in some aspects, they basically invented a language based on speculative linguistics, then made 3 dialects of that language for the three different tribes in the game, then taught the language to the voice actors so they could speak it with the right intonation and knowing the grammar and meaning of words. The score is also fantastic and contributes greatly to the atmosphere.

They could have done a better job with the resource management, either simplify it or make it so there's still an incentive to keep hunting and gathering which becomes pointless pretty fast. Some of the side quests are repetitive but you unlock the skills you need pretty quick anyway.

Technically the game is 9/10 and runs nice and smooth. I'm rating it overall 9/10 because the 5.0 user average is just unfair for this game.

It is true that the basics of the game are the same too (there are outposts, bonfires instead of watchtowers and rescue missions) but the gameplay is completely different due to the development and the animal companions. When you reach a certain skill level (I achieved that in about 6h) you unlock really, really great skills which allow you to get on an entirely new level of gameplay.

The story is its basic principle quite linear (you go out to rescue specialist and then they join your settlement, but the missions you have to complete in order to convince them of joining you are entirely different).

The only reason why I didn't give this game a 9 instead of a 10 is the lack of a great villain.

The game is definitely worth the money if you are sick of all these ego shooters where you just have to shoot and shoot and shoot.

The scenario is incredible and amusing. I am quite found of the era represented in the game, as such I can be bias towards the game. I am baffled by the negatives review on this site. This game is much better if you play on Survival Mode. There is a stamina system that prevent you from healing indefinitely like in other Far Cry games.

I can understand how this game can be boring in Normal Mode, it's basically like other Far Cry games. But if you play it on Survival Mode + Hard difficulty, it's going to be an entirely different experience.

You will be constantly fighting for your life, there are wild beasts that want to kill you everywhere. But you can use fire and other tools to take down the beasts and other enemies.

You can also tame beasts. There are beasts that could be tamed easily, but there are also beasts that you have to beat them up first before taming them. And those beasts are usually very strong, it makes taming them a very rewarding experience.

So to sum it up, if you like games like Resident Evil 4 or The Last of Us where it puts you to the limit to survive, you will probably appreciate Far Cry Primal too (but remember to play on Survival Mode).

    Normal Mode + Normal Difficulties = 6.5/10

    Survival Mode + Hard Difficulties = 9/10

This is the most underrated Far Cry game. The world is so cool and the two rival tribes add a lot to the world. The combat is so satisfying, the characters are so interesting, and the language is a really cool addition. The main story is also very cool and follows a very intriguing tale. This game encapsulates the Far Cry charm in a very interesting setting.

So far, the aesthetic, the world, the gameplay and the B.C. early Homosapien theme to the whole thing have really hooked me in. I'm finding that just exploring, fighting off wild beasts, hunting, gathering, and in general just playing the GAME has been highly rewarding. One of the few caveats would be that the crafting system works like a magical fence that keeps the player from actually accessing different components or utilities early on, but I don't find it particularly tedious. This is mostly because they've done a good job with the setting in which the game takes place, it's very arcade-like for a first person shooter obviously, and the more I play it the more it reminds me of the original Far Cry, without the majority of that game's often balance breaking issues or Artificial intelligence blunders. Sure, you can say that it's cheap, lazy and genuinely uncreative of the developers to basically recycle the same map from another Far Cry game, but I think of Primal as more of modification or conversion and on paper it may have sounded silly, but in action it works quite well. Far Cry Primal isn't realistic, you tame beasts with the press of a button, you use a fairly sophisticated bow for the late Mesolithic era, and it does leave you wanting a little bit more to play around with as far as weapons go, but for lack of a better word, this "primitive" scope that you work with makes the game very engrossing. I often find myself running, crawling, and trekking across different parts of the map. The fast travel is fine, since you have frequent campfires you can utilize as well. It's not a simulation to begin with so having to travel this whole map on foot from point A to B and back would get fairly tedious. I thought the speech specialists did a wonderful job of bringing the world to life, and making it highly enjoyable to hear dialogue from that time and place. I feel somewhat biased with this game, this is a portion of human history that I find very interesting. Africa with guns is marginally less interesting at the end of the day and Far Cry Primal isn't the best game ever made, but it's very enjoyable for what it is and the experience it seeks to give the player. The switch to 10000 BCE is just fresh enough to keep me entertained. I actually (at least kinda) care for the fate of all of these half-wits I'm building a village for. While the gameplay is very modern-gaming-y (read: ridiculously easy to master, even on expert difficulty) it feels very satisfying to land headshots and hurl people from cliffs with giant two-handed clubs.

Far Cry Primal is a first person action adventure survival game set in the Stone Age.
You play as Takkar, just a regular hunter, who’s then tasked by a woman he runs into to go rescue some of her people and instantly become the leader of a new tribe…
There’s very little emphasis on narrative here, just a quick introduction and then you’re free to do whatever you want… but there is incentive to follow through with helping your tribe mates…
This for the most part is a recourse gathering game…
By gathering resources you can craft better weapons, build huts to upgrade your village and unlock skills.. And of course craft food items to help you survive…
That’s basically it... explore the world... hunt animals for their skins…
You can even eventually tame them to help you in combat…
There are of course human enemies to deal with.. not just aggressive animals…
Outside of the 14 hour campaign you can liberate areas to unlock fast travel points, and you can do side quests for characters you meet in the woods…
Your tamed animals help you with a simple call.. they’ll even stealth with you if you go into stealth mode …
Your weapon option is about as varied as you’d expect for the stone age, you get a club, sling, spear, bow and arrows, traps, and bombs.. all of which you have to craft as you use them…
None of your tools are indestructible, thankfully wood is vast and as you upgrade your crafting skills, you get more recourses, and get more out of those recourses.. so slowly less annoying…
What doesn’t get less annoying though is enemies…
A great immersion breaker is that enemies are harder or easier to kill depending on the section of the map you’re in for no apparent reason…
This isn’t a JRPG.. This is an open world game... I don’t want enemies to scale with me... I want to feel powerful after sinking all of my skill points and crafted materials into stronger weapons…
What does make me feel powerful though is hopping on the back of a majestic mammoth and slinging enemies into the air…
You can ride any large creature you tame once you progress far enough into the story…
There’s such a great balance here of gameplay incentive…
There’s reason to play through the story to unlock new abilities, and there’s reason to ignore the story for a little while to get better weapons, and new skills…
You can’t do it all sticking to one side of the game, and I love that…
And hunting for rare animals and reaching for rare materials is just as fun as attacking a settlement on the back of a caber toothed tiger and taking it for my own…
There are also these cool witcher contract type missions deep in the game where you get to go on a hunt for a legendary animal that’s been terrorizing the land… Looking for clues, setting up traps, and then weakening them down to finally be able to claim them for yourself to call to fight by your side at any time…
A lot of the main missions for the most part have to do with searching for clues and following paths with your hunter vision, which works like eagle vision from assassins creed, or a witcher sense in the witcher the 3…
It highlights animals, plants.. and points of interest…
Its highly annoying that this vision has a timer though…
I don’t know why ubisoft ruined this awesome tool from Assassins Creed… they ruined it in Unity too…
It’s not fun having to constantly click r3 and wait for a cool down every few seconds when I’m trying to follow a path…
    Stop doing this ubisoft..
Thankfully you can call your cool little owl friend to fly around the sky to get a larger view of the path since this function is so unnecessarily annoying…
This is a very ubisoft game… If you don’t like the idea of map cleaning in your games... this isn’t the one for you…
Map cleaning is pretty hit and miss for me, but thankfully I enjoyed it here…
This world is ridiculous... it feels alive… you can ride mammoths…
    what more do you want?
    I give Far Cry Primal
    an 8.0/10

So let me tell you what I think about the game. Right from the start, I would say that I like Far Cry Primal and therefore I am one of his fans, but I say more because I would rather take a quill than a flint. Far Cry Primal had an interesting idea to throw a series of prehistoric jackets, which I think worked and surprisingly very well. At Far Cry, I always had weapons and some location (preferably an island) for that, but I must say that prehistory was also great, it had its charm. Graphically, the game was about it, I would say perhaps the same as Far Cry 4. I would not see any problem with that. Far Cry 4 does look beautiful. What? So this also applies to Primal. The story here may be a little worse compared to the already mentioned four or not at all three, because it was something unreal about the story, mainly thanks to Vaas. Vaas was simply the best villain that Ubisoft can hardly beat, but for example Pagan was also great and the villains are also great here. Yes, there are negatives. We have more of them here. Everyone has their own base that you have to recharge. Of course, you can't do that right at the beginning and you have to improve a lot. The enhancements here work for the style of three and four. Nothing new. Nothing wrong. But what is new is the opportunity to tame the game, which I warmly welcome. Having such a wolf by your side is really great. Yes. We could ride an elephant at the age of four, for example, but here in Primal we have the opportunity to call the animals directly and have them on our side while playing. The environment is beautiful and I was really impressed by the atmosphere of prehistory.

I'M NOW TO MOVE SLOWLY TO SPOILERS

I would just like to warn you that if you have read my review here, I would like to assure you that you will get the end of the game only after the improvement of the village. Yes. You can take all the bad guys dead at the end of the game, but you won't get the headlines, so I didn't know what to do with it, and then I found out after reading on various forums that it was necessary to improve my seat. No need for max. Unfortunately, I don't really know how much myself, but simply after some improvement, you should see the final cut-scene, which ends the story. But why am I telling you all this? Because I was a little disappointed after the finish and I thought I expected something more from the end. Not that the final cut-scene would be masterful, but at least the story will end.

I think that people expected some intense gameplay like other titles in the series but instead were met with something I felt was more down to earth.

The game breaks down mid way though. Having tamed some powerful beasts, pretty much every animal runs from me and stealth has become irrelevant when dealing with the tribes; my sabertooth and I can overcome any odds.

Suffers from the same problem of pretty much all open world games; well written story based content is too spread out and padded with meaningless collection and randomly generated events. In short it gets a bit boring.

There are good moments to be had though. Firing a flaming arrow into the middle of a camp to cause panic before sending my tiger in and peppering the enemies with arrows is entertaining and, as with previous Far Cry games, it's more fun the more chaotic it gets.

For the most part though it's just Far Cry 4 recycled with (oddly) worse graphics and a less interesting story.

Not worth the price tag but I'd recommend a play though once it drops to more than half price.

I think it is a great game.
In my rating i am not looking at the rest of the series or ubisoft but just Far Cry Primal.
The game was a lot of fun and i am looking what they could have done better. More story line and characters. More crafting like shelters, huts and armor. More animals like a polar bear being able to ride a cavebear or a rhino and some more. and i am missing rain.

A different Far Cry and with good ideas, but with a decaffeinated tone.

To each new Far Cry, the story will get worse. In this case we have a plot that works and very simple, but this is uninteresting and not engaging.

A too simplified gameplay in which you do not suffer to survive, with bad and too repetitive melee combat.

Hey, did you know there were "strong" women warriors 10,000 years ago? Seriously! Jokes aside, I wonder if anyone actually thought for a second how utterly ridiculous it is to put this narrative into a prehistoric game. I mean they did some research, right? You might as well have wooden guns, I mean why not.

As for everything else, I like FC series. My favorite is FC3. I like the gameplay, because the story pretty much always sucks, more specifically story missions a lot of which are forced and sometimes even ridiculous. But the propaganda that they're trying to push more and more in every new entry of the series is getting out of hand. I usually disregard that and just focus on free roam gameplay which is what I love about Far Cry. And yes, it is a reskin, but I'm frankly OK with it - they put a spin/skin on all familiar things, it was a nice break before the proper entry of the series.

The problem is, that playing Primal feels exactly like playing Far Cry 3 in the same world (with the graphics develop) minus vehicles and guns. Fighting with bow, club or wasps bombs is nice, but less satisfying than shooting and gun feeling from Far Cry 4. Story is less interesting, content is artificially enlarged with boring activity known from years. That being said it has the same addictive elements and progression that made the other far cry's good and you will get a decent amount of hours out of this game...it just feels like it was made by a different team or that it was rushed. It's worth the buy if you can get it for $15-20 but I wouldn't pay more. I do not find any real replay value to this game, but if you're a fan of the series it still is worth playing through once.

It's not a 'bad' game. The world is pretty, the weapons handle really nicely at range (although melee is poor) and it has the same sense of exploration as its predecessors. If you're expecting the same style of carnage and mayhem as in 3 and 4 you're going to be disappointed. You play as a hunter-gatherer. The game is predominantly about hunting and gathering. You will not be setting fire to cannabis plantations with dub-reggae playing in the background or trying to assassinate a flamboyantly homosexual drug lord dictator. If that turns you off, don't buy it.

Its main problem is that it's painfully 'safe'. Missed opportunities everywhere - the skill system is uninspired and exists solely to tick the 'level progression' box. The world is absolutely teeming with wildlife, which seems really cool until you see four leopards spawn on top of each other and sprint off in the same direction to attack a goat standing 100 yards away. Crafting is painfully standard - they could've so easily hybridised skills and crafting to allow weapon customisation and tiered upgrades that rely equally on experience, resource gathering, knowledge and discoveries but instead they're entirely linear. Hunter vision is a really lazy substitute for proper hunting mechanics and is made even more obnoxious by the way it interferes with the colour palette, especially considering you'll be forced to use it fairly regularly.

If you want a holiday in a really pretty, very diverse landscape with cool sound design and also want to throw spears at mountain lions, this is a game for you. It appeals to the part of me that wants to up sticks, move to the US, become a park ranger and disappear into the wilderness for months at a time. If you'd rather shoot RPGs at livestock don't bother.

With regards to the 'same map as Far Cry 4' controversy: yes it's lazy and it's disappointing that they cut corners, but you wouldn't have noticed if nobody had pointed it out to you.

    Definitely not a bad game.
    Some say it's a spinoff to FC4, I don't agree.
This was like something new. However, obviously at those times (BC) there wasn't many stuff to do, and seems like Ubi abused this by adding literally NOTHING to the game. Weapons are so limited, story is broken with unrelated pieces of missions, and the game engine itself so repetitive. Go get this go get that and

For example I may be walking past a mammoth (which I haven't noticed somehow) and then the next thing I know, I'm running for my life trying to survive something that has every intention of stomping me out of existence.
    4) I believe that Ubisoft made a whole new language for this game. I just wanted to say that they did a excellent job with the language, and that I really appreciate them going the extra mile.

Now for the bad. Before I begin I just want to clarify that even though their is less bad points, these points weigh more heavily to me, then the good points.

    1) The game makes me do mundane and tedious tasks. Let me elaborate, one of the most important things to do in the game is to improve your village. Now in order to do this I have to find these rare beasts. As the name suggests these beasts are rare and harder to find. So I have been forced to walk in circles for what feels like hours just for the opportunity to kill these beats, so I can improve my village, so I can progress in the game.
    2) The skills set is a waste of my time. After you unlock the ability to tame all the beasts and owl kills, their really isn't any point to that. So I really don't see the point of spending time unlocking new skills when they really don't help or change the way that I play the game.

It seems the game took inspiration from other survival games popular on pc but implemented a way to simple and boring crafting system to appeal to the console masses. The game is way to easy aswell, I played on normal and I recomend anyone looking to play this game to start on hard. And playing it on the hardest difficulty still doesn't make it a "survival game".
First things first when playing this game is unchecking the gathering animation as it does nothing but waste time and annoy you. You will be stopping and detouring on your way to your destinations ALOT.
Traversing this world is not as fun as in FC3 and 4 with the lack of a wing suit. And what they did add, the ability to have a pet beast, some even ridable does not make up for that. I found the beasts useless and annoying for the most part.
You also have very few weapon and attack variety making the action bland long term.
It is a huge game though with alot to do, all the ubisoft standard side activities are here but there is still no replay value to this game and there is no multiplayer to extend it's life beyond finishing it once. The story is nothing special but it isn't bad. The new made up language is pretty cool and very convincing.
As for how the game runs, it's not that good either. My fps ranged from 57-63 with occasional drops to 50ish (1080p/ultra). And I'm playing on an i7 4770K, 16GB ram and a Titan Black card, the performance should be better.
Imo the main value of this game is potentially mildly entertaining you for long periods of time IF you absolutely have nothing better to do or play.

I understand the resentment of people towards endless craft, but I also liked that(Not when it was done too stupidly)... But at this point I want to say that I like these things paired with an interesting story and gameplay. Because if the story is short, stupid, or it doesn't exist at all, and the game-play with bugs, copied 1 in 1, or too illogical - the "house of cards" collapses and all minor controversial moments immediately become the main problems of the game. And it happened with this one: A stupidly copied map of the 4th part, an almost empty plot, a rude connection of player to gathering loot and materials, extremely awkward game-play shortening (Enemy looting - slap once, tame a wild animal - twist your hands for three seconds). This is all extremely stupid and even if in fact it wasn't a developer's plan, it is very strongly creates the impression of greed, as if this game was made only in order to sell it, without caring at all about the quality of the product and the interest of the players.
But they did a good job on the graphics. The only good thing that can be said about this game.

A historia é... decepcionante.

Primitive gameplay cycle of Far Cry, placed in primitive world, suddenly starts to make sense, and even story doesn’t feel as barebones and perfunctory as usual. Here, you’re not playing as a skinny frat boy who suddenly discovers a talent for killing hardened soldiers but ultimately just wants to get back to civilization – you’re a hunter who simply wants to become respectable leader of his tribe with a personal luxury cave.
