This to me, adds to the whole living in the year 10,000 BC where just surviving the day is a huge victory . For example I may be walking past a mammoth

I have been playing for awhile now and I am enjoying it, however it does get a bit boring as time goes on. There are no real challengers or surprises. Its the same as the other Far Cry series but without the guns

Ubisoft does with Far Cry Primal what it does best.
You get an open world, lot of running, interacting, new animals, crafting, challenging fight, stealth and so on.
I do very much like the previous FC3 and 4 games for exactly the same reason.
Is it worth the full price? Heck no.
Is it a good game? Yes

I'm think it isn't bad game :/ Can be better, of course. We must understand- it is not independent game, it is intermediate game.

This game was gifted to me because after being burned so many times by Ubisoft, I decided not to buy their games unless discounted during sales. This game should not have been sold for the full price because in certain aspect it is simply a re-skin of Far Cry 4.

There really was no surprise that the game wasn't well optimized. Although it ran considerably better than previous games there were problem in the form of fps drops and character lag as they moved. Since the last Ubisoft game I've played on my PC, I have upgraded from my old specs (i7/24gbram/970) to now an (i7/24gbram/980Ti). Although in this case it did not help much. The game is not well optimized as far as CPU utilization is concerned. Perhaps dual core processors might have a better shot at a smoother game.

As far as gameplay is concerned I had fun. I had fun taming the beasts. I had fun crafting the new weapons. I had fun with the colourful characters. Story although not in any way unique was also enjoyable.

What is undeniable however is that this game is a Far Cry re-skin. The map is from Far Cry 4 and a number of the mechanics are from Far Cry 4. This guy should have been sold at a slight discount from full price.

After a patch or two the game should be running quite well.

I admire the guts of taking us back to the stone age. The setting works for the most part and at the start of the game I really enjoyed being the underdog in a harsh environment where other tribes and animals added a real sense of risk.

The game breaks down mid way though. Having tamed some powerful beasts, pretty much every animal runs from me and stealth has become irrelevant when dealing with the tribes; my sabertooth and I can overcome any odds.

Suffers from the same problem of pretty much all open world games; well written story based content is too spread out and padded with meaningless collection and randomly generated events. In short it gets a bit boring.

There are good moments to be had though. Firing a flaming arrow into the middle of a camp to cause panic before sending my tiger in and peppering the enemies with arrows is entertaining and, as with previous Far Cry games, it's more fun the more chaotic it gets.

For the most part though it's just Far Cry 4 recycled with (oddly) worse graphics and a less interesting story.

Not worth the price tag but I'd recommend a play though once it drops to more than half price.

Fun Far Cry game play. Kick ass in the first couple of hours. Then it's hard to ignore that it exactly like the other games but a different skin. Great while it lasted. Too bad it didn't last long. Story is poop. Graphics are OK. New to Far Cry? Try. Not? Don't bother.

To put it very simple - the game is extremley medicore. They put a well known Far Cry formula into the new setting, and don't change much at all. Its all the same, but with a little different twist. Comeon Ubisoft, you can do better then that. This to me, adds to the whole living in the year 10,000 BC where just surviving the day is a huge victory . For example I may be walking past a mammoth (which I haven't noticed somehow) and then the next thing I know, I'm running for my life trying to survive something that has every intention of stomping me out of existence.
    4) I believe that Ubisoft made a whole new language for this game. I just wanted to say that they did a excellent job with the language, and that I really appreciate them going the extra mile.

Now for the bad. Before I begin I just want to clarify that even though their is less bad points, these points weigh more heavily to me, then the good points.

    1) The game makes me do mundane and tedious tasks. Let me elaborate, one of the most important things to do in the game is to improve your village. Now in order to do this I have to find these rare beasts. As the name suggests these beasts are rare and harder to find. So I have been forced to walk in circles for what feels like hours just for the opportunity to kill these beats, so I can improve my village, so I can progress in the game.
    2) The skills set is a waste of my time. After you unlock the ability to tame all the beasts and owl kills, their really isn't any point to that. So I really don't see the point of spending time unlocking new skills when they really don't help or change the way that I play the game.

    Definitely not a bad game.
    Some say it's a spinoff to FC4, I don't agree.
This was like something new. However, obviously at those times (BC) there wasn't many stuff to do, and seems like Ubi abused this by adding literally NOTHING to the game. Weapons are so limited, story is broken with unrelated pieces of missions, and the game engine itself so repetitive. Go get this go get that and

In comparison to Far cry 3,4, and 5...this definitely falls behind all of them. It feels like way less love and care went into this one then the other ones, especially story wise. That being said it has the same addictive elements and progression that made the other far cry's good and you will get a decent amount of hours out of this game...it just feels like it was made by a different team or that it was rushed. It's worth the buy if you can get it for $15-20 but I wouldn't pay more. I do not find any real replay value to this game, but if you're a fan of the series it still is worth playing through once.

The game looks great even in 2021, but boring quests and the lack of a main story are very bad for this game. Well-designed nature, quite memorable characters, nice graphics and excellent performance. All this pales before you get bored of the game very quickly.

Looks flashy but has little to offer that you haven't seen before. Basically a re-skinned version of Far Cry 3/4. Boring to the bone once you get the hang of it. Everything is confusing, the difficulty is terribly unbalanced, visuals can be an eyesore. Basically, I don't think this is worth the money unless you get it for the price of a cheap DLC.

It's not a 'bad' game. The world is pretty, the weapons handle really nicely at range (although melee is poor) and it has the same sense of exploration as its predecessors. If you're expecting the same style of carnage and mayhem as in 3 and 4 you're going to be disappointed. You play as a hunter-gatherer. The game is predominantly about hunting and gathering. You will not be setting fire to cannabis plantations with dub-reggae playing in the background or trying to assassinate a flamboyantly homosexual drug lord dictator. If that turns you off, don't buy it.

Its main problem is that it's painfully 'safe'. Missed opportunities everywhere - the skill system is uninspired and exists solely to tick the 'level progression' box. The world is absolutely teeming with wildlife, which seems really cool until you see four leopards spawn on top of each other and sprint off in the same direction to attack a goat standing 100 yards away. Crafting is painfully standard - they could've so easily hybridised skills and crafting to allow weapon customisation and tiered upgrades that rely equally on experience, resource gathering, knowledge and discoveries but instead they're entirely linear. Hunter vision is a really lazy substitute for proper hunting mechanics and is made even more obnoxious by the way it interferes with the colour palette, especially considering you'll be forced to use it fairly regularly.

If you want a holiday in a really pretty, very diverse landscape with cool sound design and also want to throw spears at mountain lions, this is a game for you. It appeals to the part of me that wants to up sticks, move to the US, become a park ranger and disappear into the wilderness for months at a time. If you'd rather shoot RPGs at livestock don't bother.

With regards to the 'same map as Far Cry 4' controversy: yes it's lazy and it's disappointing that they cut corners, but you wouldn't have noticed if nobody had pointed it out to you.

It seems the game took inspiration from other survival games popular on pc but implemented a way to simple and boring crafting system to appeal to the console masses. The game is way to easy aswell, I played on normal and I recomend anyone looking to play this game to start on hard. And playing it on the hardest difficulty still doesn't make it a "survival game".
First things first when playing this game is unchecking the gathering animation as it does nothing but waste time and annoy you. You will be stopping and detouring on your way to your destinations ALOT.
Traversing this world is not as fun as in FC3 and 4 with the lack of a wing suit. And what they did add, the ability to have a pet beast, some even ridable does not make up for that. I found the beasts useless and annoying for the most part.
You also have very few weapon and attack variety making the action bland long term.
It is a huge game though with alot to do, all the ubisoft standard side activities are here but there is still no replay value to this game and there is no multiplayer to extend it's life beyond finishing it once. The story is nothing special but it isn't bad. The new made up language is pretty cool and very convincing.
As for how the game runs, it's not that good either. My fps ranged from 57-63 with occasional drops to 50ish (1080p/ultra). And I'm playing on an i7 4770K, 16GB ram and a Titan Black card, the performance should be better.
Imo the main value of this game is potentially mildly entertaining you for long periods of time IF you absolutely have nothing better to do or play.

Flora, fauna and common landscape look so beautiful. That’s always give me high feel – I fell myself adventurer. In last my text, I tell you how much proved this primal world with real history.

If we will talk about map, here have interest moment. Let’s start with that – map is copyright from Far Cry. Please, don’t think that is bad, just fact. It so similar. Also, it cut off on two sides – south and north, although all main plot action takes only south side. Weird. Besides, in air always staying frog, that decrease visibility range. Interest, but I don’t see far away.

And now let’s take up the plot. It tells us about Takkar – main hero, - who after accident with his comrade during hunting on a mammoth, walking by traces his tribe Wenja. Trought some time he found girl, which lead him in places where earlier lives Wenja – after their kill or slavery tribe Urus. She want revive tribe Wenja and you help her do this.

You will fight with another tribes (their two) and save slavery for your tribe. Also you will extend your village and increase population. My opinion – world is beautiful, plot boring as a caterpillar. We have two enemy tribes and, it fact, two bosses. And first, and second is strong similar, bosses is so boring. Tribes different only in outfit and a few abilities. It’s usually for Far Cry, when you come in alien places and kill everyone, with anthem – I defend my tribe. (smile)
How talking Russian revolutionaries – For all good and against all bad. (Adore this quote)

Boring enemies, okey, but what you tell about your allies? The same thing. They do not remember me, they only stay in villages and give you tasks – that’s don’t do their real person, and all work do you, what do all of they? Nothing. In final of game is so boring and useless. Together with six nonames enjoy win of Wenja. Gorgeous. That’s all.

And now let’s tell about whether proved world?

In first, flora and fauna, a few don’t proved. Saber-toothed tigers, giant irish deer cave bears already died, mammoth yet live, but already not in Europe. Coniferous replace deciduous tree.

In second, Slavery don’t be popular. Probably, people look like else, they were big massive, most weight and had big head. Concerning about language – we don’t know, that’s question is so controversial even in stage Neolithic.

In my final word will be like this – Game is good, but not over this. If you like Far Cry series, why you waiting for? Go in game. And if you want to deep in primal world, you should try play.

A different Far Cry and with good ideas, but with a decaffeinated tone.

To each new Far Cry, the story will get worse. In this case we have a plot that works and very simple, but this is uninteresting and not engaging.

A too simplified gameplay in which you do not suffer to survive, with bad and too repetitive melee combat.

Jokes aside, I wonder if anyone actually thought for a second how utterly ridiculous it is to put this narrative into a prehistoric game. I mean they did some research, right? You might as well have wooden guns, I mean why not.

As for everything else, I like FC series. My favorite is FC3. I like the gameplay, because the story pretty much always sucks, more specifically story missions a lot of which are forced and sometimes even ridiculous. But the propaganda that they're trying to push more and more in every new entry of the series is getting out of hand. I usually disregard that and just focus on free roam gameplay which is what I love about Far Cry. And yes, it is a reskin, but I'm frankly OK with it - they put a spin/skin on all familiar things, it was a nice break before the proper entry of the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been playing the Far Cry franchise since the beginning, and with its ups and downs, I have to say this is the worst installment of the lot.

We all know it's a rehash of Far Cry 4; that's okay. The problem is that they did almost nothing to conceal that. Ubisoft could have used the groundwork of Far Cry 4 and then altered it enough to give a unique experience, but they chose instead to barely dress it up and change almost none of the mechanics. That's not acceptable. Not at the prices they ask.

The story is practically non-existent. And God is it lonely. There's almost no one to talk to, no characters to bond with or hate, and no real driving motivation to why we should play the game to begin with. There's just nothing compelling here. As far as story and character are concerned, it's all very shallow. No depth whatsoever. It could have been so much better. Your brother dies, your tribe is on the brink of extinction. Missed opportunity #1.

The terrain is so broken and difficult, I wonder if they were aiming to make a 12,000 year old simulator. Seriously, if the map shows a road, and there's a cliff in the way, that's a problem. And of course, you have to 'unlock' the grappling hook to go any farther. Pathetic. Why not fully embrace the open world concept and give us multiple ways to get where we have to go? Missed opportunity #2.

Stop making me go certain places just to be able to build a damned tool. Just lay out what is required to build it, and make me go find those items. This negates the entire concept of Far Cry. Ubisoft says open world games are the future, but they sure as hell don't act like it. They also did this in Far Cry 5. "Do what you want, until we tell you it's time to do something else." Missed opportunity #3.

Hunter vision, bee bombs, poison clay pots? At this point the game has gone from clumsy FPS to magic fantasy junk. The idea of having real hunting mechanics and relying on scent, sound, and sight sounds amazing. When you are crafting a game based on a specific historical period where no one knew what a germ was, but has magic laser eyesight....You've lost the plot. Playing in 10,000 B.C. is interesting enough. You don't have to give me magical powers to dress it up. Missed opportunity #4.

All in all, it's a boring, lazy moneygrab. No depth, clumsy magic powers, no story, no motivation, and no creativity. Good graphics and wildlife are not enough to redeem this troubled mistake of a game.

The hackneyed story doesn't detract from the thrilling world and new challenges of 10,000BC. [Issue#249, p.45]

There is a seed of a fascinating game hidden somewhere in Far Cry: Primal, but, I’m afraid, someone else will have to find it and grow it.

Primitive gameplay cycle of Far Cry, placed in primitive world, suddenly starts to make sense, and even story doesn’t feel as barebones and perfunctory as usual. Here, you’re not playing as a skinny frat boy who suddenly discovers a talent for killing hardened soldiers but ultimately just wants to get back to civilization – you’re a hunter who simply wants to become respectable leader of his tribe with a personal luxury cave.
