Far Cry 5 had all the mechanics to make a zombie game that you could have the option to stealth through. Something few if any zombie games have gotten right outside of The Last of Us. I would have loved to try to sneak around a zombie-infested town and throw rocks to distract the zombies and take them out and maybe save survivors. Something few if any zombie games have gotten right outside of The Last of Us. I would have loved to try to sneak around a zombie-infested town and throw rocks to distract the zombies and take them out and maybe save survivors. The way you survive zombies is by being quiet after all and practically every gun in this game can have a suppressor attached. Making noise could have attracted a horde to overwhelm you for suspense.

Where is the open world? They literally could have used the same map of Montana only set it to the apocalypse, who wouldn't want to fight a Zombie John, Jacob, and Faith Seed? Nope, what you get are small episodic stages that aren't much better than an arcade level where your only option is to run and gun from point A to point B EVERY TIME. That wasn't any fun.

I didn't like the cheap poorly animated cutscenes breaking up the gameplay. The humor was more goofy than funny and wishes it was Tiny Tina's Dragon's Keep DLC from Borderlands 2. I wanted to like this but I have no desire to play any of the DLC again. You have the option to grind points to unlock outfits, no thanks. I'm probably not going to ever buy another season pass again from Ubisoft before seeing reviews. This was the DLC I was looking forward to the most. This was really disappointing.

It’s unfortunate that Ubisoft decided to end with something so weak. The first two DLC were fantastic fun, but Dead Living Zombies fails to be innovative, with a very light coating on top of a glorified Zombie Mode. I honestly don’t know how they could have made this better, but I’m sure it was possible. A lackluster end to the season pass trilogy, and to my time with Far Cry 5.

Far Cry 5: Dead Living Zombies maintains the level of general Far Cry 5 fun within a zombie movie setting, but does nothing really exciting with the concept. We have no problems with the DLC not having a sandbox world (although doing an Undead Nightmare with the main map would’ve been awesome), but the 7 linear levels on offer here are unimaginative, short, have no checkpoints, and could’ve been so much more. The idea of playing through terrible horror movies, which can change at any time Call of Juarez: Gunslinger-style, is fantastic, but Ubisoft wastes it. Hopefully Arcade map makers will do something with the concept, because this DLC is dead on arrival.

Developer Ubisoft almost had a real winner on its hands, but it couldn’t quite come up with a way to make killing these simple zombies feel less repetitive.
