Negatives-Horrible glitches, graphics are too faded, most of NPCs just walking around or sit, most of things are unexplained so that many people miss dialogues and chooses in gameplay, last battle is not epic as its should be,I know the FO series is mainly walk game but no driveable vehicles is just dissapointing because you see many of them even bikes parked close to tavern in first city and just walking dont fit mood, some factions dont even leave the location where is their HQ,some chooses dont affect gameplay nor the story and some factions are poorly written, only 30 skill levels, corridor like walking because highly dangerous enemies are everywhere and in high numbers, characters are like they exist and they goes and like some mentioned the guns feels outdated.
Things depends highly on your opinion are main story and Wild West like mood. Both feels more like more like gangster Tarantino movie than a Fallout world but I dont count this into my points. Some good hours I have with this but nah its not great game. Not by a story and not by a open world terms.

A truly great game by Obsidian, which was taken im a different direction than Fallout 3. It brings more options for factions, which was a refreshing change. However, while it brings enhanced gameplay, the exploration and atmosphere don't quite match that of Fallout 3.

another bad thing about this game was that you could not be a thief . everytime I tried to steal things and do some stealth things the game just punished me with that stupid Karma system.
Fallout new vegas just dose not give players the freedom to be anything they want but it forces them to be a nice kind gun fighter.

Fallout is known for its open world, and massive branching story arcs. New Vegas is no different. The landscape is quite massive. Dialogue options are plentiful. The amount of perks and abilities is staggering. The amount of things you can loot and acquire is overwhelming. All these should point to a very deep and rich game experience, but there are problems.

With so much information, there needs to be a way for it to be organized in a way that doesn't make it a jumbled mess. And that's exactly where New Vegas falls short. After I progressed a good few hours into the game, my bag was full of goodies and random stuff. The weapon section alone was a jumbled mess. The chaotic amount of ammo and weapons are all mixed in the same category, making browsing to the weapon I want a very difficult task. There are no shortcuts whatsoever. Having to pull p the pip boy every 20 seconds breaks the pace of the game way too much. This adds onto the numerous times you need to pull it up to see quest objectives, and double check marker location, cause besides a marker on the main screen, there's absolutely no indication of how far away you are from the destination.

There were times when I wasn't sure if I should be approaching a certain area because there may be too many enemies, enemies who are way higher level than me, or random proximity mines on the ground. These all cause cheap deaths, which break the pace of the game. For this very reason, I found myself having to quick save constantly, which in itself was annoying.

There's no explanation for a lot of the effects that happen to you throughout the game. I'm getting radiation...ok, so what? What does radiation do to me? Oh, I'm losing good karma...ok, how does karma affect me? So many questions, but no answers, until I google it.

The game gives you all these perk choices at the very start of the game, but you have no idea what you need. How much charisma do I need? Will there be a lot of dialogue choices which takes advantage of that? How important is combat? Will there be situations which screw me over because I assigned only 1 point to strength? How important is perception? Will there be a lot of enemies in the hub world that I can't get past unless I have some perception? You have to guess all these things before you even set foot out the door. The most logical choice is to assign the points evenly, cause you no knowledge whatsoever of what to expect. You start to get an idea of what to expect after getting out of the first town, but you perks are already locked in at this point. Oops, you want to be a charismatic person and pass speech checks, but you only assigned 3 to speech? Too bad, slowly grind your way there.

Not knowing what was a main quest and what was a side quest was really annoying as well. I want to know who shot me in the f***ing head, but I could be following false leads because this guy promised me information, if I help him get this guy, but the guy I'm trying to get will tell me, if I help him with this. It's just quest-ception, on and on. But the final part of that mission, might not give me what I want to know, case the entire branch was a side quest. By the end of it, I'm scared to take on another mission, cause it might be a quest-ception of side quests. After 3 long branches of side quests, I'm so drained, I don't even care about who shot me in the head anymore, and just want to stop playing, or want the credits to roll.

I do love the freedom, and the story branches the game offers. It's truly remarkable how many ways you can play through this game. But all that is largely hindered by the lack of knowledge, and organization. Overall, the experience felt like a jumbled mess for the most part, but when things worked, it was amazing...which unfortunately was far and few in between.

    The Good

    Survival Mode
    Good Voice Acting
    Nice Weapon Selection/Modification

    The Bad

    Same Character creation
    Same UI
    Same Graphics
    Weak DLC
    Weak Protagonist (The Courier?)
    Boring Story
    BOS (Brotherhood) was dumbed down
World looks too pretty to be post-apocalyptic
    Less exploration
    Characters are less memorable

As you can see (at least for me) the bad far out weighs the good. I feel that NV is a very overrated fallout game. Fallout 3 is much better. Obsidian (and with all due respect) looks as if they just copied a lot of stuff from FO3. So yeah. Not a horrible game, but certainly not a great game, and surely not up to par with FO2 and FO3. Again, a very overrated game. I'll give it a 7, because although I didn't like it as much as the previous titles, it's alright. But at least for now, FO3 still rules the series.

The dialog system is as dumb as in F3. Just click almost everything and read. In addition I find it hard to play evil, it is as if the game is guiding you to play political correct = good.
Key word political correct. This game is gendered like Falout 3 already before. So yes you will see 50kg women fighting as good as men...just like in Hollywood propaganda.
The dialogs have low content, written for the mainstream. After some time in a dialog I was asking myself, what was the point? As if girls were talking to you.

Technically this game is another catastrophe like Oblivion and Fallout 3: Bugs, Crashes, low fps. Bethesda is not finishing their games, because they rely on the big modding scene to do their work, this is disgusting. The game loads very often also, what is annoying. The sound is like in Fallout 3, the same music. The graphics is also bad, even for a game from 2010.

The control of the PIP Boy is a nightmare. Low overview, many menus...console problem. Unacceptable. Because of this I didnt like to collect items, just did what was the fastest way.

Gameplay? level scaling, haha. You fight some scorpions as level 5 and as level 40 and in both cases the fight can be demanding.

What is good? Another big world to explore + great franchise. Yes the gameplay is slightly better than in F3, because you have several types of munition, you can craft and you can modify weapons. But overall the gameplay is too easy.

    Yes, FNV is overrated.

There were an incredible amount of bugs in my time playing too. The main turnoff for me though was how barren it was. With it being a desert, the game wasn't really interesting unless you in a large town. The most boring part is tied with that which is walking from place to place. There are only annoying & hard enemies(Cazadors & deathclaws). There were some small areas here & there, but they weren't all that interesting apart from some unique dialogue & possibly a quest. I don't at all think this is a bad game, I think it is actually one of my favorites, I just don't think it is as good as people say it is. I have only played FO3, 4, & NV with 3 being my most favorite, & NV being my least. I could also talk about the graphics being trash, but is made on a 10 year old engine & is a 7 year old game. Then again, Crysis is from 2007 & looks miles better than this. It is a unpopular opinion, but I think NV is the worst post-bethesda fallout. Expand

That being the said, the ending left me feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. Fallout 3 had a great ending directly influenced by player choice. Fallout NV had a zillion different ending options, which is a great concept revived from the original Fallout games, however NONE of the endings are fully satisfying for a player who truly wants to be a hero of the wastes. I did everything I could to have positive karma and to choose the most morally upright option, but every major quest path at the end of the game requires you to commit an act or two which gives you negative karma and leaves you feeling like your hands are dirty. There's a reason folks like stories with happy endings where good triumphs over evil. I'm disappointed that there was no undeniably "good" quest path option for the character to take. There's merely a variety of greater and lesser evils, different shades of grey from which the player must choose to aid. I chose the least of the evils, and felt slimed at my pathetic ending as the narration reminded me that the least evil option was still evil enough to ruin the fate of a couple of factions. I was merely a pawn thrown into the immovable cog that is the Mojave's depressing fate. I enjoyed the gameplay and the journey to the end, but was ultimately disappointed by the ending. Expand

Even with heavy fixing (mods, patches, bugfixes to "fix" the crashing and freezing, looping issues) it still randomly crashes every half hour or so. Its really irritating.

Things I've done to help fix some bugs:
-Applied NVAC - New Vegas Anti Crash fix
    -Applied YUP (Yukichigai Unofficial Patch)
    -Turned off all autosave functions
    -Ran game as Admin (Win7)

After doing all above, the game STILL constantly freezes, loops and crashes randomly.

Load a save file directly from the "Load Game" in Main menu causes it to loop the loading screen indefinitely. The solution to it is to start a New game then load a save file from there.

Both games crash a lot, usually when you don't want it to crash. Thankfully, there's a mod (CASM) that will automatically save the game periodically so the player doesn't have to replay too much to recover, but it's still annoying. Why can't the developer fix it? Bad points for the developer - you know who you are.

Steam deeply discounts this game from time to time with all the DLCs. Wait for the sale then scoop it up.

This is a very good game overall, especially if you like large open-world RPG. I have spent about 70 hours on it, finishing the main story, all the DLCs and reaching max level. I started and finished the game in 2014 (4 years after release). I have done my playthrough on hardcore mode on a normal difficulty. Here are my pros and cons:

Pros: - Atmosphere: the post-apocalyptic feeling

I started and finished the game in 2014 (4 years after release). I have done my playthrough on hardcore mode on a normal difficulty. Here are my pros and cons:

    Pros:

    - Atmosphere: the post-apocalyptic feeling is well done. The world actually feels coherent. To be continued in cons.
    - "Cast": I wouldn't go as far as saying that the game characters have deep personalities, but you do get attached to some of your side kicks. For instance, I really couldn't part with E-DE, a robot that just "talks" to you through bips (a bit like R2-D2).
    - Graphics: provided you tweaked them with available mods, the graphics are ok for a game that came out 4 years ago. Yeah, it's not like you are going to be mind blown either, but your eyes won't melt when you start playing.
    - Gameplay: this is standard Fallout 3 gameplay. I do appreciate a few things though:
    - The VATS system that was overpowered in the previous installment has been recalibrated and is useful but not so much that you can just go out and uniquely use that to destroy mobs.
    - The leveling is much more balanced, you only get a perk every 2 levels and a lot less skills point per level. Overall that is a good thing. To a certain extent, you need to make choices. You can still max out all the skills if you want to (using books) but with all DLCs installed, I am pretty sure you will have a hard time finding what perks you want.
    - The addition of the hardcore mode is interesting. I like that your character needs to eat, sleep and drink. Sure it is a wee bit annoying to carry food around, but you can actually deactivate it if you don't feel like micromanaging your inventory.

    Cons:

    - Bugs: the engine is not very good, every couple of hours your loading screen will crash. Then there are a lot of issues with quests and order. Even if I installed unofficial bug fix mods for the main game and DLC (which is a long process, took me about 2 hours maybe).
    - Atmosphere: although I really enjoyed walking around the Mojave desert with my scoped hunting rifle, head shooting things as they came, some part of it were not that great. One of the weirdest thing for me is Caesar legion. I mean what the hell??? I am all for the disruptive scenario (which is great, especially with all the available endings), but having pseudo legionnaires walking around with guns and sunglasses feels broken to me. I am fine with the transvestite super mutant or the cyborg dog, that's typical Fallout humor. But I wish that the "mean" faction looked and felt a bit more scary and dangerous.

In conclusion, I did enjoy the game very much. I wouldn't replay it though. Overall, and that is a similar comment I would write about Fallout 3, I don't feel these games capture that well the spirit of Fallout. I don't have the same sensations that I had when I came out of Vault 13 in a cave full of rats with my 10mm pistol. In addition to that, even though the open world is big, it doesn't feel as such. I long for a game that makes me feel the immensity of nuclear wasteland, where radiations kill and need to be avoided. In the end, I wish Bethesda/Obsidian would just drop the Fallout franchise and provide us with a fresh new post-apocalyptic world that would work with an "Elder Scroll" type game.

Despite Obsidian's fan-service, Fallout: New Vegas is a heaping pile of bugs.

Fallout: New Vegas looks like an Add On to Fallout 3, but that should not mean, that it's a copy of its forerunner. It scores with an great atmosphere, nice story and all the typical and awesome Fallout features.
