Nothing short of superb - it takes "Fallout," expands upon it, enriches it, enhances it in so many ways that it makes one feel as if the original was immature.

Few RPGs provide so deft a balance between the wandering monster-slaying and the NPC interaction phases of role-playing.
  3. A worthy successor to Fallout 1, and for those who loved the original they're in for a whole new experience.

If you value character development, old-fashioned gameplay, and a good plot, this game delivers on all counts. [Feb 1999, p.178]
  5. Much broader in scope and storyline than was its predecessor. There is much more to see and do in this game. Best of all, the much-maligned time limit from Fallout is absent.
  6. Perhaps even more so than its predecessor, Fallout 2 contains dozens of subtle and more often not-so-subtle references to cult movies, television icons, and other aspects of popular culture.
  7. This year's post-apocalyptic nuclear Christmas experience won't be as good as it was last year. Lack of improvement over the first and a high number of bugs are the main reasons.

I remember the bug in the power station that made me restart this game MANY times before I got past it. But I didn't even really care. Because once I got passed it I enjoyed it so much I was ready to forgive the odd bug or two. So much to do,loads of great characters and NPC's,and a dark sense of humor throughout. Expand

It is a true non-linear game that lets you do pretty much whatever you want. It is fully possible to smash orphans in the groin with a sledge hammer, if you are so inclined. The game suffers from a myriad of bugs in its original form, applying "Killap's Unofficial Fallout 2 Patch" removes most of the bugs and adds a bit of extra content. Expand
