    One of my favorite RPGs, it has a great immersive open world, lots of fun quests, and ways to play the game. It is my second favorite game out of the Fallout series

    A quirky and endearing birds eye view, role playing game that has some interesting talking heads and writing. The game is generally meant for people into a pretty hardcore role-playing experience.

    CRPG perfection. I really think hope Baldur's Gate 3 success shines some light in those old classics, 'cause Fallout 2 was definetly one of the best games I've ever played. The game do not hold your hand at all and you'll nned to be forged in fire - after that, you're in for one memorable experience.

I've got excited and desperately would like to play on my own as my big brother would like to play this game also , soo I borrowed the cd of this game from my cousin and immediately rush into our computer to play it , when i first play the game with soo many rich dialogs , soo many different options to play with and it's unique play style i just shocked and become addicted on it , struggled soo much back then because my english is not good enough to progress into this game but with my too much older cousin help and also have dictonaries on our house that we searching the words to understand what the game is trying to tell us . back then me and my brother achived to finish this game and gave me the satisfaction that still i ain't get that satisfaction and joy from any other games soo far . Soo after years past i've become more understand the english language and like i was at 16 years or something like that i played THE Game one more time and fully understand that what the game is about . This game improved my english soo much that's one of the impact it gave me and also first time in my life i experienced the pure role playing experience which i liked a lot . I would like to thank all of the members of this development team that make this game come through . Personally thank Brian Fargo , Tim Cain , Leonard Boyarsky and soo many other developers and management team members . I hope that one day those guys come together and make this kind of game one more time , then in 2023 while people talking about Baldur's gate 3 ( i liked it a lot no misjudgement of that ) can experience pure role playing experience . This game is the BEST GAME ALL TIME . In football terms thinking this game as , you have abilities of the prime times of Messi and have physiques from prime Cristiano Ronaldo combined :)… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start with a simple thing. Fallout 2 is good game, but Fallout 2 is bad Fallout. Fallout 2 doesn't understand what fallout is. He's trying to be Wasteland. Yes, fallout 1 also wanted to be Wasteland and was inspired him, but cant and became independent. In turn, fallout 2 is just a absurd: talking plants, talking rats, a ghoul that lives in a coffin for a couple of months without food and water, gangsters, porn studios, Chinese that fight in kung fu style (i'm not kidding). And the enclave. God, enclave so stupid is unreal. These guys want to kill everyone, but they don't do anything for the whole game, then savage (the chosen one) come to them on a ship (And they don't hear him or see him) and kill everyone. It's just not funny. There is also a scientist who worked on the enclave's plan to kill everyone. So you can just tell him that "kill its bad" and he take it into account so... Will, kill all civilians in the enclave with gas? I don't even know what to say. I just remind you that fallout 2 claims that the enclave is the strongest military faction on the territory of the former United States. And they are defeated by some cowboy savage who shepherds the Brahmins. It's just a circus. I put 8 because:
    - The gameplay steel good (and this is the most important thing, right?), thanks to fallout 1 who created it. - The companies good . - I like the idea of intelligent deathclaws. - All sorts of references to fallout 1: super mutants, Brotherhood of Steel, NCR, Tandi, Vault Dweller Statue (Although fallout 2 ruined even bos. I think they done this because the **** would confuse the two teams in power armor, so we have only one team in power armor). I could put 9, but I'm putting 8. Because I don't like New Reno. And Myron. I hate New Reno. Also I could put 7, but I'm putting 8... because I like the Vault City. I really like it (I condemn slavery, but the idea of the city is really interesting). But when compared with fallout 1...I would put fallout 2 only 5/10.    … Expand

    Fantastic sequel to the first game. HUGE huge game, filled with role-playing elements and choices. Immense replayability. My only complaint is the implementation of stuff that does not make any sense and kill the immersion, like telepathy messages, talking plants, Monty Python bridge encounter, etc.

    There were some improvements compared to 1, the game is a little more fluid with less fps drops, some new weapons and armor and that's it. The rest is the same engine, same character assembly system and possibilities as 1.     The story I found even shallower than the first, but with more game time.
    Taking all this into account, I recommend it only to those who want to know the saga as a whole. Remembering that it is an extremely cheap game.

    But in terms of plot, the game, in my opinion, turned out to be weaker than its predecessor. The positive attitude towards super mutants was especially disappointing. I remember how in the previous part they completely destroyed the settlement in which I had so many plans. They caused so much grief then, and it seemed that everyone suddenly began to be satisfied with it. And even after that, they said that they would be happy to immerse the main character in a reservoir with a virus. It's good that the game still gives an opportunity to deal with them.
    The main story itself seemed interesting, but the main boss and motivation still looked weaker than in the first part.    … Expand

    Played AGAIN with the Restoration Project. The game is still top with the same bugs like missing shots on 95%. But still playable, cool, nice dialogues. It's more logical with the improvements and additional quests. No more cheese of going straight to Navarro.
    Will always remember the day when my cousin brought me this game as a present on the CD. Though, I didn't play Fallout 1 before that.

    I can't believe they made this game in 1998. Way ahead of its time. I played this in 2022 and it still felt fresh and new and creative. The sense of humour and cultural references really cement it as a classic. Just unbelievably good.

    Блестящее продолжение новой вселенной и что удивительно она играбельна даже на сегодняшний день не без костылей, конечно, но всё же.
    Думаю даже для нового геймера тут есть такие вещи которые его удивят и несомненно рекомендую попробовать всем кто не играл.    Если вы вдруг забыли, что такое проработанный мир и что такое настоящее РПГ, то вот оно.

    I've been through a lot of new RPGs, but Fallout 2 is exactly what I've always wanted to play; this game is good at everything: the plot, gameplay, open world, dialogues, quests, freedom of choice and action-there is a lot of this here, and because of this, I loved this game.     It felt more or less like the original fallout but i think it was the better game out of the two. I love the good old days of fallout rather than the new weird pass that bathesda is taking rhe franchise nowadays.

    The original Fallout is my favorite RPG to this date. In theory, this is Fallout 1, but bigger. There are dozens of quests and a quite large world map. Your choices change the outcome of different quests and the way some NPCs talk to you. So as far as video games go, this is one of the best examples of a true RPG. What I did not like is the main story. The ending of Fallout had a lastingThe original Fallout is my favorite RPG to this date. In theory, this is Fallout 1, but bigger. So as far as video games go, this is one of the best examples of a true RPG. What I did not like is the main story. The ending of Fallout had a lasting effect on me. Fallout 2, however, doesn’t offer a main story more interesting than its side quests. Talking about quests, it is full of a certain style humor and pop culture references. This may bother some people, but I didn’t have an issue with it. It also has a balance issue, in terms of difficulty. It starts extremely challenging and gets more manageable as you progress. Admittedly, the early-game is frustrating.

    My party consisted of Sulik, Vic and John Cassidy, which were all well designed characters for an RPG. I think it is a step back from the first game, but it is nevertheless great, especially if you enjoy an adult theme, post-apocalyptic setting and well written dialogues. Keep in mind though, unlike Fallout 1, it’s less about the aftermath of a nuclear war and more about building new societies in this new chaotic world. So if you are curious about the old school Fallouts, you will enjoy this sequel more if you start with the original game.

    PS: When Fallout 2 was released it was riddled with bugs. Also, the current releases are censored. I, therefore highly recommend to play this with the Restoration Project mod, which fixes the bugs and offers an uncensored version.

    Choices, humour, lots of dark and twisted stuff you can do, even the armwrestling that can go wrong on so many levels.

    Thanks to fan patching (restoration project) I can firmly say this is one of, if not the greatest game ever made.     A rare improvement on the original. Inconsistent misplaced humor, yes, buggy on release, oh, terribly so. But it was everything about the original improved and writ large. You really feel like captain of your own destiny in a game like this, even though it may be illusory. Grab the Fallout 2 Restoration series of patches from No Mutants Allowed and enjoy it the way it was meant to be played.

    One of the best games I've ever played, every character has backstory and a purpose for existing truly great. The game punishes you early, but battling through will show you a world bethesda could never and most likely will never be able to replicate.

Its gameplay is great even in 2020 and it's overall a fun game to explore and boasts a heavy challenge. My one gripe is no being able to save in combat but that's a personal opinion. It just saved me a lot in the first game.     The best game of all time! The game we grew up on. A game that could not be repeated for modern computers and modern graphics. A game with an open world and endless possibilities remains relevant and playable now. And in those days - it was just incredible! It will remain in our hearts forever) And we will compare all subsequent games with it. Usually not in favor of new games)

    It's probably one of the best games I've ever played! Amazing story but graphics aren't the best but it's from the 90's. There are quite a few glitches that can make the game more frustrating. Still an amazing game!

    For me, it's simply the best game ever created. It is my favorite RPG and despite the years I still enjoy doing it regularly. While I only finish a game once, Fallout 2 always makes me want to come back despite the years.

    One of the most fun,immersive RPG's I've ever played. I remember the bug in the power station that made me restart this game MANY times before I got past it. But I didn't even really care. Because once I got passed it I enjoyed it so much I was ready to forgive the odd bug or two. So much to do,loads of great characters and NPC's,and a dark sense of humor throughout.

    This is a great game. The plot is good. Various quests. The gameplay is the same as in the first part. The characters are cool. Full freedom of action. Music on top. You can talk about this game for a long time. Just 10/10

    It is dated now, yet the story and true open world make this a groundbreaking and pinnacle of the gaming industry. Yet to be reproduced, although many have tried.

    Want to be civilizations savior? No problem, drug addicted pron star? OK.Whichever way you choose, it is your choice.

    This the best RPG game I've ever seen. The choices you made are clearly solid and effective. Also I love how game is making it hard for you but in fair way. You need to find your path, choose your priorities and make decisions. It's all on you, you may be controlling a virtual character but it's actually you... the pure form of you.

    this is the best fallout game out of all of them, and might be the greatest RPG of all time. this and the first one are the only ones you need to play. if you like modern games then 3 and New Vegas are okay. Avoid Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, those are terrible.

    Most would say 2 is a much better game than 1 but to me I hated all the cultural references and just overuse of jokes. The game not taking itself seriously is my main issue. I prefer the subtle jokes and references in 1 and NV.

    Despite that however, it's still a great addition to the series. Story is great, good characters, great role-playing. Great game overall.

    My favourite game all-time, all platforms. This game was ahead of it's time and the re-playability is very high! Graphics, dialogue, gameplay, back-story is top notch. If you like RPGs you have to play this game, you'll love it!

    This game was I why I fell in love with PC gaming and RPGs. There was no better post-apocalyptic RPG since then. What Bethesda did with this franchise is just travesty. I own it in old school cd-rom (boxed version, steam (before GOG existed), and GOG.

    After Fallout Fallout 2 is another great RPG game I play once or twice a year. The atmosphere is just something absolutely amazing to look at and just stare at.

    I hope BGS seriously learns from the catastrophic boring game that is Fallout 4 and makes Fallout 5 as good as Fallout 3 and better. Fallout 4's dialog wheel and short same worded quests were really bad.

    I liked the first one better but this one do not betray the franchise, add something to gameplay (like compaion..in the first one you'll hang out almost only with dogmeat), it's longer and have a lots of options.
    Try it, it's a very solid videogame.

With multiple factions all with they own agendas, and if you don`t like any of them you can either kill them or skip doing those quests all together. Also every companion can be order to be offensive, use melee weapons or ranged, carry stuff or to wait or move if they stand in you way , witch may happens sometimes. It might no be the best gameplay but it still works just fine. And the game is neither to hard nor to unforgiving.

    Character development / leveling/skills and quest: How your develop you character is entirely up to you. Do you want to fist you way trough the game you can do that. Do you wanna be a sniper and let your companions if you want to have companions do the fight for you , you can do just that. Do you want to play the game alone you can do that. For every four level you reach you can choose a skill and some of this skills is pretty good and actually has a meaning. Do you want to be a sweet talker and try to talk your way trough most of the quests you can do that. Compared to the later fallout especially fallout 4 at least in a large extent you have more freedom in how you do your quests and how you accomplish them all with multiple solutions and your choices also has consequences. All the character you meet have their own personalities and perhaps even problems or a reason they need your help or a reason why the want to join you and lastly those character especially on the companion side is plentiful and enough of them but not to many and neither to few. All skills have they own usefulness. Almost every character you meet has something to tell about the world. Plus if you really want to you can be a made - man/woman. And lastly you earn exp by doing quests and killing or even picking up a special items or using seeing special encounters. So yeah the game is pretty violent. Like shooting the groin of someone or the head of someone.

    Factions: A short note on factions. Every factions as previously said have they own agendas. Some are evil som are good some are somewhere in between. Some want to make prostitution and gambling legal. Some want to focus on something else.

    Setting: Perhaps most important of all is the setting. The setting is great. It feels very mush like an a post-apocalyptic game. All of the locations feel different in a good way. Different cultures. Different rules in the different places. Every places has it own mini-stories of side quests to tell. And with the wonderful music it could nt be any/much better. And the game has tons of Charm and Humor.

    Music: the soundtrack is very good. And a lot of the tracks if not all you will remember.It really helps you immerse yourself into the setting

    Bonus: I would put it here. The humor is very good. There is a lot of times you will laugh. Like missing a 95% hit or hitting a target with 20% hit for that matter. You will laugh by the funny and witty and good written dialogue. A lot of cool Easter eggs that even i understood or laughed and thought was funny, i am not the best at finding Easter eggs, but i could in this game.
    And the ending is more then good enough to and so is the voice acting at least for that time. And despite some few crashes the game is still utterly fantascic. Give it a shot , even if you disliked fallout 3/4. Hugely different.

    Score : highly recommended 10/10 if you enjoy turn based rpg set in a wonderful and brilliant rpg setting
    One of the best pc game i have ever played if not the best . The only one that is close in Planescape, Deus ex and perhaps Max payne 2 and Portal 2.

    NBI am going to say this is beyond me why this game ha snt gotten enough recognition, well atleast that what it seems like. How a game like this can`t get on top 128 games on gamefaq when games like fallout 3 or say undertale ( as there is many who thought it should nt be there)or any top 50 pc games is beyond me. But i guess everyone has is taste, no bias. and yeah i know in the fallout community this is considered the best fallout game and i have to agree despite putting at least 250 hrs in fallout 3 and 250 hrs in new vegas if not more.     Great improvement over the original, the controls are more forgiving and the interface although only marginally improved seemed freindlier to use.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 2 is a perfect sequel, certainly loyal to what was the first Fallout. Of course: we must still remember that the first chapter is where it all started, but certainly in the second, is where everything has been continued in a great way.

    Fallout 2's plot maybe isn't impactful as the first chapter, but it has certainly a very high quality. I liked the "tribal" style in which the game is started, with the Temple of Trials and the Arroyo village's charm. The historical background is not complex as complex as that of the first chapter, but provides valuable revelations about previous events: the failure to deliver the water-chip to Vault 13 and the mistake of shipping with Vault-City (what an irony, thinking back to the first Fallout), but especially the abominable role of the Vaults and the social experiments program. In this context, the role of the Enclave is predominant and impressive: if in the first Fallout, the Master recognized the grandeur of evolution, here the Enclave despises it; denying the survival and the will to survive of the human race, by labeling the "different" or "survivor" as mutated or subhuman. They are what remains of the United States, and in this there is also a critical view to the country, which we know today, which isn't a holy-country. Kill millions of people under the guise of purifying the human race, proclaiming itself as the "world policeman" as quoted in the game. Frank Horrigan himself, is a contradiction: a true mutant, who hates mutants. Enclave's plans can be summed up in the saying "the end justifies the means". And in the end of all this arrogance, as a purifying poetry, the game ends with a huge atomic explosion, a symbol of the past, and the devastation of the atomic power unleashed by human hands, that once again triumphs on everything, and reigns supreme. A scene that puts chills, and a perfect ending.

    Fallout 2's gameplay is generally an improvement of that of the first chapter: commands to manage the companions are much more complex and more strategic, the number of weapons has been changed and increased, the level cap to 21 has been removed allowing the player to progress further and become stronger. The trading system remained perfect as it was, but now the traders have a respawn of goods, allowing the adventure to be much more accessible and dynamic, creating a real economy between the character and the game world. The system in which the skills affect the character is always perfect, and based on rigid mathematical calculations. The map has been expanded (about 2 times bigger, I heard) and also the number of visitable locations has increased obviously; among these you can also revisit the Vault 13, Vault 15, the base of Mariposa and Shady Sands, who were present in the first Fallout. For the main quest there is no time limit, unlike the first chapter, and this to me personally liked because you can complete many beautiful side quests without hurry. Even the achievement of individual objectives in the main quest is easier and more intuitively. However the game is not any easier: in fact the problems begin already in the Temple of Trials and the random fights in the game map are simply absurd; you can meet group of 6 or even 8 enemies that attack you, one after the other, and you can't even heal the wounds that you're already dead. I noticed that even some enemies can move 2 times per turn. This doesn't make the game fun, but only frustrating. On the opposite I rather liked the fight against the final boss, Frank Horrigan, that it has been difficult but balanced and fulfilling.

    The graphics are identical to that of the first Fallout, there is always the charm of the isometric view, and the artistic retro-futuristic and steampunk beauty that makes Fallout 2, a true Fallout game. The soundtrack is excellent, legacy of the soundtrack of the first chapter.

    Fallout 2 is really a great sequel. Certainly it isn't fascinating and revolutionary as the first Fallout, and could be better. But it's still a great classic RPG and a masterpiece.    … Expand

    This is a game. Not a book and not a movie, you can have the best story and characters ever but if your gameplay is terrible then it's a terrible game. Simples.

    First off is user interface, which is absolutely horrible. Your view of the environment and NPCs/creatures/items is obstructed by the game world, so even though your character can see what is in front of them, you can't. Instead    This is a game. Instead you are forced to run right up to things to get a small viewing area on what is blocked by the game world. This viewing area also happens to remove the ability to interact with things like doors.

    You are unable to give orders to your companions. For a game that is hailed as having amazing dialogue interaction with NPCs, apparently the act of asking your companion to go look around the corner for enemies is just too complicated. This combined with the turn based combat makes for an extremely clunky and frustrating experience akin to pulling teeth.

    Another example would be an incredibly weak, rotting door that's falling off its hinges but happens to be locked. Your character lacks the strength to smash it down, but you have a companion with high strength wielding a sledge hammer. Any rational individual might ask them to smash it down for them, but no not in this game.

    The stealth is a complete crap shoot with enemies wondering back and forth randomly for all eternity like some mental patient, this combined with the lack of visibility due to the game world blocking what your character would be able to see again makes for horrible gameplay experience.

    Combat is horrible, you can't move and shoot, can't take cover, flanking doesn't seem to do anything for melee, to-hit chances are abysmally low. Not to mention that many of the enemies are bullet sponges. You can shoot an enemy in the head with no reaction from the enemy. It's also turn based so you have to just stand there with your thumb up your arse while 5 enemies all queue up to punch you in the face.

    Movement is hex based so you often can't run in a straight line. I don't understand this obsession with the hex based systems. Why!?

    Companions will routinely block pathways.

    Simple things like being able to see how much health your companions have - can't do that unless you enter dialogue and then go into combat control. Terrible

    I can't use my first aid or doctor abilities more than 5-6 times per 24 hours... really? Are high speech characters arbitrarily limited to how many conversations they can have or a high guns character by how many enemies they can shoot? No? Then why the hell is mine then!?

    This "game" could have been so much better if the developers kept in mind that people actually have to play the damn thing, we're not reading a book here or watching a film so it would be nice if your user interface wasn't so horribly clunky and useless.    … Expand

Unfortunately the game is unbalanced like F1, many skills and perks are very weak in comparison to others. The companions are more important than it was in F1, unfortunately there are not many orders you can give to them. The combat system is great, it makes you think and not forcing you to play a reaction game. The setting is perfect like always and it was interesting to see the developpment of some cities and west California.
    But in comparison to Fallout 1 the second part is much worse in my opinion. First of all, there are so few new graphics and new sounds. This game looks more like an addon, where you use much of the data from the main game. Somehow I needed to motivate myself to play further especially in the middle part, the atmosphere in F1 was much better. I dont know why, but I could not get into the world so well like in F1. Another thing is, that there are so many bugs, it is unexcusable.

    Why more companies didn't learn from this classic I will never know. Fallout 2 defines RPG. I still play this game currently and find it just as rewarding as when it was released.

    Great story and soundtrack make you really immerse in the game. Spend countless hours exploring and questing. Finding interesting new easter eggs and fun facts.
    A lot of equipment, weapons and even a car to travel the wastelands. Some future looking equipment and old guns. Interesting locations with the limitations of that year the game has a lot of variance.
    A game that I come back from time to time just to have some fun.

    After completing first Fallout i waited and i waited and i waited. And finally, when the sequel hit the shelves, i hit the stores, and got my hands on a copy from a third try! :) was the wait worth it! :)
    Even though not much changed, the innovative additions and new storyline were welcome!
    Excellent Game!

    Personally, I think Fallout 2 is the best in the series. Yeah, I know the graphics are 1999 and it plays in 2D but geez, this really is how a RPG should be. Once you get past the dated graphics you'll be gripped by the storyline and great dialogue. The dark humor of the Fallout series is at it's best here.

    This is objectively the best rpg ever made. A truly open ended experience featuring memorable characters and a large variety of quests with multiple answers to completing them. The only people who wouldn't prefer this to any modern fallout game are those with poor taste or no imagination.

    Played this for the first time in 2014 and enjoyed it tremendously. It's bigger and more over the top than it's original brother. There's a lot of pop culture references and tongue in cheek jokes, which make the game a lot of fun. It also has more weapons, items and perks than the first one.
