Epic Battle Fantasy 5 is an otaku JRPG, made by a JRPG otaku – made for every JRPG otaku. The game is packed with parodies: You will see huge damage points during the epic battles, treasure chests are fun to hunt, and the dialogue keeps the story interesting. All these factors blend together to create a new landmark for a non-Japanese developed JRPG.

The graphics are beautiful and the character interaction is masterfully done. (except for lance, we don't talk about lance)
Every character has it's field of expertise making them all unique.

There are also countless options that let you tweak stuff. Like if you want to see mature content (it has allot of it in it)
    No in-game purchases!
    No loot-boxes!

    The cons:
The slowdowns when allot is happening on screen. (Flash isn't aging well)

    The pro's
Very good sound design, really sucking you in.
    Allot of character narrative.
    Very good story

Full Review »

Far and away, one of the best JRPG's I've touched. The central mechanics of combat contrast others in the genre, with the use of turnFar and away, one of the best JRPG's I've touched. The central mechanics of combat contrast others in the genre, with the use of turn cooldowns in place of typical MP requirements. Combine this with the ability to use any off-cooldown skill any of your 5 characters has to start a turn, the and options at your disposal lead to an RPG where your choices read as meaningful.
The game's use of status effects is great to add more strategy to combat. If your foe is weak to bomb, you could spend the turn buffing a character to pump up their most powerful bomb-elemental move - or, you could spend the turn applying Dry, which itself multiplies Bomb and Fire damage. Would it be better to look to remove the opponent's goons before setting off your limit break, or would you rather clear the field with your biggest attack?
Though only around 50ish hours of main storyline content on Hard, the sheer amount of optional boss content, including boss rushes and 1-character marathons, will keep anyone looking to stack status effects for that juicy, optimal turn. Also, it does not hurt that Phyrnna's OST is fantastic.
